I was wondering what the best rom is for the Eris? I am currently running xtrsence. No complaints on current rom, just wanted to know if there is a better one out there.

Totally personal preference. Lots and lots of great ROMs built by some very talented and dedicated developers.
Take advantage of your ability to do Nandroid backups and restores and try several out. You'll learn a ton and still be able to restore back to your last setup in just a few minutes.
Cheers!
What is the easiest way to restore your apps to a new rom? Titanium? I have already done a nandroid backup before I installed xtr, do I need to do another or just backup current rom?
I use My Backup Pro, most people seem to like Titanium Backup better but I'm not sure what the difference is between the 2. This is my own personal preference but for a rom I would either suggest Workshed's GB Rom, or Tazz's Gingerbread Rom. I'm running Tazz's rom myself and it's flawless, Tried out Workshed's rom too and it runs just as smooth.
Is it version 26 for the tazz gingerbread rom, or do you have a link for it?

I'm still kinda new to rooting, roms, etc. but I've been using kaosfroyo v39 for a week or two and love it. I tried LauncherPro and the phone operates much faster and smoother than it ever did with Sense.
I am thinking about trying a gingerbread rom, though. Any suggestions?

Well personally I like worksheds rom. Regardless of which one you get you can always install launcher pro and make it your default home launcher.

This is in response to the inquiry about how to backup and restore your apps from one ROM to another freshly flashed ROM. I use My Backup, too. I've used both that and Titanium Backup a lot and in my experience, TB is just not as reliable. Some apps would get restored but not the app's settings. Not talking about system apps, just regular apps. Personally, that was at least half the reason I wanted to restore the backups, so I wouldn't have to configure my apps from scratch again.
I have tried going back and forth between the two backup apps every once and a while after many version updates to TB, but I always found reason enough to go back to My Backup. Up to perhaps several months ago, My Backup was a lot slower than TB due to My Backup zipping the backup, but it was more reliable so I still used it. They've sped it up quite a bit now, though, so now it's no contest in my mind.
There really is no single best ROM, it's a lot of personal preference and what you lllike to have in a ROM. I personally love GSB because not only is it the latest version of Android available, but it's totally stable after just a handful of releases, helps a lot with battery life, and is extremely smooth and fast.

That's interesting, as a long time ago I has purchased a license for MyBackup Pro - months before I rooted, I think - but had long ago stopped using it. However, I decided to try it again with CELB a couple of weeks ago, and tried using it to reinstall all of my apps and data in GSB (I chose not to sign in to Google at the initial setup so I could install my apps myself, rather than wait for the to sync, when I installed 1.3).
Anyway, after the restore was done, it turned out that MBP had skipped several apps, without any sort of notification why. I then used TB to restore the missing apps.
This may have been an anomaly, and I'd like to try it again, but for now I have both apps firing off while I'm sleeping.

I actually just had my first problem ever with MBP. I flashed to one of the GB themes yesterday and when I used MBP to restore my apps it restored all of them. The problem with this is that I only checked the box for about 5 or 6 of them to install and installed all 25 of them lol.
I can't seem to find workshed roms. Any suggestions?

Hi! I just flashed CyanogenMOD 7.0.0 RC1 Gingerbread NIGHTLY for the Droid Eris
(Thanks for the ROM !)
But I am having problems with restoring my apps. All the apps says "Download unsuccesful."
Anyone having the same problem?
I had that happen with a few of my apps when I upgraded... I went in the market and they were all listed under my apps so I had to click install manually
Another time I had 2 hang forever at installing and a reboot fixed it.
Hope it helps!
I have always found it best to manage my own apps and not trust Google backup.
I just save the the apks to a folder and reinstall them. (This is also nice for having a variety of apps on hand to choose from and not be taking up space or relying on a data connection. And for archiving things you might forget about.)
Going from 2.2 to 2.3, there are a few idiosyncrasies with restoring data.
If I must have app data saved, I use Titanium Backup, but sparingly; user dictionary, wifi passwords, bookmarks, note everything. That's about it.

Yes, I believe that if you read through the GSB thread in total you will find it is a very common problem. It happened with me as well with 1.2. Each of these installs had a notification; I just clicked them, reinstalled from there, and all was set.
I had this issue for a few apps. Going through manually fixed the issue. Sadly, the keyboard app I was used to using wasn't compatible with Gingerbread, and GPS was flaky, so I switched back to Froyo.
On 1.5 is anyone else having issues with videos from the gallery and YouTube not playing from time to time? Have to reboot to get it back working.

Hi,
I just flashed Gingerbread 2.3.3 to my Eris. Everything works great until I restore my apps with Titanium Backup. After that's complete, I keep getting a Force Close on androis.process.acore Any idea what's causing this? Like I said, everything works great until I replace my old apps.
Thanks!
It seems like CM7 doesn't like Ti Backup. Some people have issues while others don't. I don't use it so that's ask the help I can give, just our quirky Eris

Just like the poster above me. It seems that TB is hit and miss when restoring apps in these CM7 roms. Generally I only use TB to delete "stock" apps that I don't want. You might be able to run logcat while trying to restore said app and see if it says anything during the force close. If you don't know how to run logcat just look for a tutorial on here to help you.

Thanks guys! I tried reflashing the ROM and reloading all my apps manualy, i.e. without Titanium Backup and it's working beautifully! I did use it for one app though because I needed all my data back with the app. As soon as the app was restored, I deleted TB. Still no issues. All is good!

if your last backup was on froyo and you were trying to go to GB then some people have reported TB issues. Many (including myself) have used TB after the initial GB flash to backup and restore without any issues.

when going from one OS version to another, don't restore data. Apps should be fine, but not app or system data; its been known to cause issues. There's even a setting in Ti that addresses this.

Okay, I have the Samsung Captivate and anytime I flash a new ROM I install everything from scratch. I recently upgraded to ICS... now my wife wants it on her i9100. Installing from scratch wouldn't normally be an issue but she has like 100+ apps, most of them games and such and I don't care to go through and write them all down to re-install and also hope that they don't need saved information. If anyone has any (free) backup tools that can do what I need, please let me know. The only I've ever heard of is Titanium and when I used it once on my Captivate it didn't work with restoring everything.
hey there,
you tried Titanium before ... it´s the one solution I would use for this task; as you know it will show you the apps it wasn´t able to restore and you can install them from the market after that.
normaly I use MIUI Backup for this, but since you want stock ICS you have to use another app.
Yep use titanium backup, if you flash cm9, it might be a bit tricky, I had to use the free version of titanium backup, the pro didn't work, also it sometimes freezed sobi had to reboot, also ics rom's for sgs2 have lots of bugs

ICS issues eh? Then maybe I'll wait a month or so, she's just anxious to get the same capabilities that I do, because on the Captivate ICS has made it so smooth I feel like it's a brand new phone.
Our ics roms are not something I would subject a spouse to unless they are a fan of Android tweaking, there not really stable and likely to cause problems, only really for advanced users.

Hey there XDA X2 Community, you are lovely today! Aside from that I have another question for you Masters of the X2! I have gotten the flashing bug; I want to try all of these awesome ROMS at least once. I have only tried CM7.2 BETA(Current) and MIUI 4 BETA. In the few flashes I have done I have had to wipe my data, and this isn't an issue, but it is annoying having to go and redownload the apps I once had. I would think to fix this would be to move all of my apps to the External SD. Is this right? If so, what's a good way of doing it quickly? Thank you all!
And how do I set my signature?!
Hello! Restoring your apps and data through an app like Titanium Backup can often cause issues. Things might not work correctly. You can sometimes get away with just restoring the market apps without the data, but it's generally not a good idea. The best idea (IMHO) would be to have a clean install of the apps on a new ROM. Try app list backup (free app). That should help with the process, and alleviate some of the annoyance.
In regards to your signature, use the drop down menu at the top of the screen labeled Quick Links. Under User Control Panel, you should see Edit Signature. If you don't see it, that just means you haven't hit the amount of posts needed to apply a signature.
I use the paid version of Titanium Backup and do not have any problems. I have went from Eclipse to CM7 and back to Eclipse using the same backups.
When using the free version I had TB freeze up on CM7 when selecting multiple apps to restore. I had to do them one at a time. But even with that, I didn't have problems with the apps or data.
Thank you both! I will definitely try TiBu but in the mean time I guess I'll be okay loosing everything lol. It's all good in the hood!
And I found my signature!

Titanium backup in cm7 sometimes dies not load BUT if you stop the app via Manage Apps it will. I use the paid version also, and really trust in it. I always get it to work. They also have great tutorials and support.
SMILE It's Not Illegal Yet
So here is a question...
I have been updating roms on my devices (TP, Samsung Galaxy S devices, etc)for the last year or so.
My question is why do some of my devices (TP to be exact) take advantage of the Google Backup/Restore feature where as my other devices (Galaxy S - Captivate & Galaxy S Wifi 5.0) do not. I mean, I check the boxes during initial setup to allow Google to backup/restore my settings but why do some work and some don't?
When I flash new roms on my TP (CM9) I notice that as soon as I setup my Google account, it starts downloading all my apps that are associated with my tablet. Not 100% but close enough where I have to hunt for only a handful manually. Of course all the sideloaded apps and Amazon App store apps don't load automatically but that's ok. I would then use TIBU to restore data on some of these apps to get the TP back to operational state.
Now, on the other hand, my Captivate (ICS 4.0.3 - ICSSGS RC4.2) and my Galaxy S WiFi 5.0s (GB - Stock rooted and GB - 2.3.6 Custom) do not start the auto restore after the account setup.
Why is this different between devices? Is it rom dependant?
Anyone know?
I noticed this too on my EVO when I used specific roms. For one of my roms, the developer eventually fixed the issue a few releases down the road. That's all I know of that though.
Generally, most rom developers prefer you to use something other than Googs backup. Titanium is a good example. Works well w/ backups, and restore. Alot of apps that are generally for rooting are not in market. Just my opinion...

I get that... that was my understanding and my experience so far... I just always wondered about the purpose of the Google Backup/Restore during initial setup since it never did anything... until the last few rom updates on my TP. The first time I noticed was with XRON GB rom... it was downloading apps (not all) even though I had deleted them all... odd I thought... and then I saw it with CM9 A.5 and A.6... and now with A2... and I am starting to like it... I use my tablet with apps loaded. I don't keep it for just testing...
I do use TIBU but I find it more assuring to install apps fresh from the Market after each update. This consumes a lot of time.
With the latest release, I was able to get my setup with all the apps, desktop configuration, widgets, etc... in 30 mins... fresh to operational in 30 mins instead of 3-4 hours that used to take for me to recreate my settings... I am a bit anal about how things need to look so I would take the time... now it seems I don't have to as much.
I always do a cwm backup before flashing a new rom. After flashing, I do a restore data. This gets all my apps back. It's worked fine so far.
