After installing megatron rom ?? - Optimus One, P500, V General

hello guys just installed custom rom (megatron) and a custom kernal (mik_os')
now i got a question..
what happens if i remove my memory card ??
or say i put in another ?
would that brick my fone ??
coz there was some stuff to do with memory card before flashing (like partitioning, nandroid thing is stored)

It's not going to brick your phone. It will just screw your apps up (maybe temporarily. not sure) since /data/app is in the SD card.

I realized my sd-card is probably not class 4, but I've already flashed with megatron.. If I get a better, and faster card, how do I continue with this? Have to flash everything again? According to test: Writing Speed is 5,9MB/s and Reading 8,7MB/s.. So don't know?

Cards that can write with speeds of about 6MB/s is class 6. That's good enough I think.
Anyway, maybe you can move the data from one card to another, provided the paths are the same. Also, your PC needs to be able to browse ext partitions. If you're in Windows, there is a 3rd party driver available. Just google it You will use it to copy the data to the other card.

Which driver ? WHat 2 google ? SOrry, THis is my first android phone.

An ext2 driver is available if you're on Windows. This makes Windows read and write to ext partitions since it doesn't natively support that filesystem.
Just follow this when you're going to try out to copy the contents of one card to another.
Also, there's disk cloning, but I haven't tested that out myself

Changing SD Cards - How to copy apps.

Right - I've rooted my Hero ( RA-Recover ), and have flashed Modaco 2.2 Rom. I've moved my apps onto my 2 gig d cad with AppstoSD.
Now I want to replace my sd card with a larger capacity one - 8gig.
So how do I get all my apps from the old card onto the new one??
Is it a case of copying all the apps back to the phone from the old card ( Sort of AppstSD in reverse )? If so, how do you do that?
cheers
Mount the card on the desktop of your Mac/PC via the USB cable.
Copy the whole contents of your existing card to a folder on your Mac/PC.
Replace the card and copy back everything.
The folder structure should remain the same and as long as your new card is named the same as the old one, all should work.
If not, then at least you can just swap the cards back and you have your original setup.
Then try something else
But the above 'should' work fine.
Hi Simon
Don't quite get your solution ( me being thick? ). I know how to copy the main contents of my SD card - but since rooting etc. my card now has 3 partitions - main, ext3, and linux swap. As I understand all the apps are on the EXT3 partition, which I can't see.
It's this partition's files I want to either move to the new card, or copy back to the phone ( so I can then transfer them using Apps2SD to my new card. )
Ah... sorry. I see where your problem is now
I would have assumed that all partitions would be visible when the card is mounted on the Mac/PC desktop.
Will ASTRO or any other file browser not see the partition ? How did you partition it in the 1st place ??
Someone cleverer than I needs to help you here I think
At least I've bumped the thread for you
Sorry for hijacking this slightly, but can anyone tell me if there is any need to move from MoDaCo 2.1 to 2.2?
And, what is the point of using Apps2SD?

Thats a really good question. You made me think about that..
Indeed that you cant copy the ext3 en linux-swap one to one to the new card. So i think a way couldt be:
Format youre new card in a fat32/ext3 and linux-swap like you did with the old sd-card. Do a nandroid-backup with the old sd-card in youre phone. Copy then all the content from the old sd-card [fat32 partition] to the new sd-card [via youre pc] Then insert the new sd-card in youre phone do the nadroid restore from the recovery. Maybe this is the solution. I really dont know. But if it dont work you always can put youre old-card back without any problem.

If you are already on 2.1, you can change to 2.2 without any problem. There is just a minor difference between them . Apps2sd just installs/moves youre apps on the sd-card so you have more space left on youre phone.

Good idea - but I just tried that and it didn't work - I have to re-install all te apps amually ( a right PITA ).
@J-Zeus probably a bit late to help you now but an Ubuntu live cd would enable you to partition a new card with these formats and copy the contents across from the old one.
you would have to reinstall them manually anyway, as the connection to the market is lost and updates etc. wont show.
@Soulehmoo: why would this be? The apps were previously installed to the card so the app install db either remains on the phone (normal), in which case nothing changes with the new card, or be on the card itself, in which case, it may be copied across to the new one.
im not sure, but i have swapped a card over and thats what happened.
For those of you who wish to access all 3 partitions on the sdcard from windows you can dowload and use this program... (running it on Win7 x64)

What are the card problems?
Just to clarify, the only problems i have is in managing file integrity when the file is big. Eg the roms I downloaded and put on my sd always changes its MD5 hash after I reboot. So always unable to flash. On rare occasions it could load up.
Is this the same as formatting using windows inbuilt tool or gparted or does minitool handle things differently? Would it differ from formatting in xrecovery or in storage settings on the phone?
Clear and useful guide nonetheless thank you

Your sd is seriosly damaged, buy a new one
I think it might be the cable when the speed of transfer of the zip file gets higher than 3mb per second i'll expect a bad file.
Other stuff are working fine though so i'll stick. What's more it's a 16 gb card and I don't wanna part with it!

[Q][Q-Flyer] How do I use the external (SD2) memory?

I have a HTC Flyer and have nearly filled up the sdcard memory and would like to use the sdcard2 memory.
The flyer has 16 GB of memory. The 16G of memory is partitioned into 3.9 GB internal partition and a 8.7 GB external partition (sdcard). I also have a 32 GB of exteranal removeable memory (sdcard2). The sdcard is nearly full and the sdcard2 is empty. How do I make use of the sdcard2?
For example I would like to move google play music files from sdcard to sdcard2.
Is there an app that will move the music files? Will the google play music app find the music files on the sdcard2 or is there something I have to do to force the use of the sdcard2?
I can mount the flyer on my PC and find the 2 sdcards and I can move the files from card to card. I'm just not sure if it's that simple and what rules are required as far as paths, etc are required on the sdcard2.
It seems like a simple problem that should have a well documented answer, but I haven't found any information in google searches?
An additional comment. Does the removable 32 GB card need some type of special formatting. I believe the card was format when I purchased it. Last night I erased it in the Flyer. I couldn't find an option to format it in Flyer so I formatted in my PC.

Not sure about the new Google Play app but the older one had no way to choose sdcard2 to store/use files. If they have not built this feature into the app yet than you may have to use a workaround such as this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
As for just your standard media files (music, videos, pictures) you would like to open via default apps on your tablet, just drag and drop from internal to external via USB or file manager. Doesn't really matter where you put them as long as you can find them. Just create a directory structure that makes sense to you.

If you just use the standard Fat32 format on the PC the card should work just fine.
Thanks for the reply.
I have another question on moving data. The Flyer has an app "locations". It stores all of the points of interest and is about 3 or 4 GB. The points of interest are located at sdcard/.data/navigator/Data/Maps/... Can I just usb drag them to sdcard2/.data/navigator/Data/Maps/... and will the locations/navgator app find the data? I don't understand how the app knows where to look for it's data and use it. Does it just know to look on both sdcards?
Sort of sucks how google messed up the mp3 files in google play music so other music player apps can't find and use them.
I tried moving the locations files it and it said the files were out of date or missing so I guess that didn't work.
My Flyer is box stock. I never took any updates because I was afraid of not being able to root if I took an update (I got burned on the EVO 4G Gingerbread update).
What is the best method to root the Flyer? Is there a ROM that will let me run apps and store there data on the removable SD card? Are you using a custom ROM and do you have a recommended ROM?

Yep. Can't move that data. The app won't find it unless you can try the link I sent you for that program that re-routes the paths but you will need root to use it.

Keeping data for apps on sdcard2 is going to cause you nothing but trouble. If that card is unmounted you may end up having to re-install all those apps for them to work. As far as I know there is not a rom that will allow this to happen. Only thing I can suggest is to get all the media files you can onto your ext. sdcard to free up some space or start using a cloud service.
If you want to root your Flyer use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194709 Make sure you have a qualifying hboot version otherwise you have to do some extra prep work first.
I have the same problem. I'm using a 64gb card and the tablet will not store anything on it. Mine is labeled sd-ext. It act like it needs a2sd installed to work. But that's not possible with out root.
Lame
I mostly use my SD2 card for movies. I'm not really seeing anything that uses it other than the camera, I think (there's a DCIM folder there).
I know on most other (2-sd card) android devices, you can actually switch which sd card is 1 and which is 2 by editing the vold on the device. I am not sure if this works on the flyer, and have no real reason to try this myself, but if some brave soul is willing to test it out, I can provide instructions.
PS: if anyone has already tried this, and found it lacking, please let us know before I suggest that someone do something stupid
Sorry, Have been away for a while. I would be interested in the instructions to edit the vold. Could you send me a link to instructions or the instructions. Has anyone else tried the vold change?
Thanks for the reply.

[Q] CM7 backup?

This is prolly a stupid question, but it can’t hurt to ask . . .
I want to use CM9 on my Nook tablet. I current run CM7 on an sd card. Will the CM7 card be a sufficient back up just in case? I don’t have a ton of stuff on the NT to lose, but not having a back up stinks. Anyone?

You mean using a different SD card to run CM9, and just use the old SD with CM7 as a back up ROM? That would work fine.
Soooo....does the fact that I'm using a new sd card cut out any of the steps of doing the Cm9 upgrade (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1534192). I'm thinking no but want to be sure before starting.
Wait, so you want to run flash CM9 internally and use the old SD card for more storage + a backup ROM?
OR
do you want to run CM9 from a different SD card?
Sent from my Slider SL101
Ideally I would love to run CM9 from an sd card, but i thought i read in a thread that CM9 only runs internally?? No matter how it's installed I want to keep the sd card with CM7 on it.

It is possible to run CM9 or even CM10 from an external SD card. It's a little bit if work, but not too complicated. If you choose that route, you'll definitely need another SD card.
Let me know what you decide, and I'll try and point you in the right direction.
I would love to do the sd card route. Any pushes in the right direction would be great!

Have a read through succulent's blog instructions here. If you get stuck, report back. It can get a little tricky if you're new to some of it.
And here is the page with the files that apply to the newest version of CM9.
I tried the install but have a feeling the sd format wasnt done correctly. I tried to look where I thought it should be but didnt see anything obvious. How can I tell if the card partitioned correctly?
To see how the card is currently partitioned, plug your SD card into your PC and open up the MiniTool Partition Wizard software. It will display all the partitions on the card.
I have had an interesting evening. Final score: me: 0. Nook Tablet 332 (or more, I've lost count).
I checked the SD card with the partition program. For whatever reason, the third partition listed didn't get formatted on the SD card. I follow the instructions to add the partition. Doesn't work. I try to delete the partitions. Again, no go. I try and find the SD card as an external device, and it's not there. At this point I figure that maybe the card is bad, so I go out and purchase a sandisk 4 gb card. The partition program can find it, but it isn't listed as a external device. So even if the card IS partitioned correctly, I can't find it to copy the files to.
I've been trying to make this happen since Saturday, and I'm thinkin I'm done. I didn't have any problems getting the CM7 going, maybe I should just stick with it. Too frustrating. I hate to quit, but the sanity line is getting close to being crossed. I do want to thank you for taking the time to try and help me out . . . maybe someone else might see this post and it will help them (not sure how, but hey, stranger things have happened).

Before you give up, how are you connecting your microSD card to your PC? Try using a microSD-USB or SD-USB adapter. Sometimes just SD adapters don't work so well and don't get recognized.
Learning these things is part of the fun of Android. We'll get it going, don't worry!
I took your advice and tried the sd card reader on another laptop at home. And I got all the way to the "Copy the rom and cm9.img inside the pX folder onto your sdcard.". Here I am stuck. If I'm remembering correctly, ROM refers to the official CM9 ROM that you downloaded (withe the modified updater script inside).
And again, I'd I'm remembering, cm9.img refers to the boot.img file included.
Let me know if that make sense.
I kinda thought the boot.img file was the correct image file . . . as far as the rom thing, is that the entire zip file I downloaded? I downloaded the update-cm9-acclaim-alpha0.06.1-fullofbugs.zip file. When I opened the zip file it looks like the attachment I added . . .
Okay, so "Copy the ROM and cm9.img inside the pX folder onto your sdcard."
ROM refers to the file you have called update-cm9-acclaim-alpha0.06.1-fullofbugs.zip (after you replaced the updater-script).
cm9.img refers to the file called boot.img located inside the p2 folder of the file called "update-cm9-acclaim-alpha0.06.1_sd_hd_8_19.zip"
Ok . . . when I put the acclaim files on the sd card it asked if I wanted to merge the META and system files with the ones that were already on the card. I said yes. Please tell me that was the right answer . . .
Some of the files asked if I wanted to replace them with the acclaim files, I said no, to keep both the files on the card. . . .

I'm not sure which files would be being overwritten when you transfer to the root of your SD. When you think you're finished, just make sure you have all the correct files and number of files in the root of your card.

Anyway to move apps to SD card, without formatting to internal storage?

That. I'm rooted with TWRP recovery, using the AOSP Extended ROM v3.2 (7.1.1 nougat).
I dont want to format my sdcard to internal, because I use it to save files and backups, and zip files to flash on an emergency.
Is there an alternative? I can't seem to find one.
It would be cool to make it think it has 2 sd cards, 1 internal and 1 external, while in real it's just one that is formatted in 2 partitions, but I don't think thats possible.
Thanks.

It will nuke whatever is on your SD card. Won't touch a thing on your phone. Just follow the directions, he tells you how to confirm you're looking at the proper storage device.
AFAIK there are no negative effects beyond the normal additional read write cycles due to adoptable storage. Been using one card like this on the e (backup device, low use) for six months, and the other one for about a month now on the Z (high use daily driver). Working fine for me.

Seems legit. I have a 32gb sd (max for the Moto E surnia) and going for 25% internal (about 8gb) and 75% external (about 24gb.)
Thanks a lot!
EDIT: OK. I did it, but i forgotten to eject it, so now it's corrupted, and I can't seem to find a way to eject it to try to do it again, as when I press on the SD card, it tells me to format it. If I format it (temporarely, to then do it again) it will still say "Corrupted". EDIT2: I tried formatting it as portable and it worked, but then when I ejected with the icon next to the sd card, and then doing the commands gives the same result as before. "Portable Storage" is okay, named as "sdcard1 / vfat" but internal says "Corrupted". What do I try now?

Hmmm. Probably better off to reformat the whole card to a single fat32 partition (use a card formating tool on the pc for this) and start over. Not sure if or how to do it via adb if it's seeing one partition as corrupt.
Fwiw, 32gb is the max " officially " supported SD card size on the surnia, but it works fine with bigger cards. I'm running 64gb.
I'm going to try a solution that is on the comments of the blog post. Thanks!
EDIT: tried the solution, heres the comment:
A Bored Boy 16 September 2016 at 19:54
For anyone that is getting the corrupted error on their SD card when creating a mixed partition. Here is the solution.
After you have partitioned the disk and while your SD card is corruped enter In the terminal the following:
$> adb shell sm list-volumes all
Which will list your volumes, for example:
private mounted null
public:179,1 mounted B5B1-140C
private:179,3 unmountable null
emulated mounted null
Then enter the following replacing 179,3 with whichever disk numbers you are given:
$> adb shell sm format private:179,3
$> adb shell sm mount private:179,3
Now your SD card in device storage should be properly mounted and your portable storage will still be there.
This worked on my LG G5 and should work on the S7.
On the 2nd and 3rd step I get the following error:
▶ adb shell sm mount private:179_67
Error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: command '55 volume mount private:179_67 0 -1' failed with '400 55 Command failed'
Help?

OK. Tried formatting into FAT32 with a chromebook (only computer I had access to atm, no usb adapter :/) and it formatted. Then putted the sd on my phone, selected as portable, EJECTED and did the proccess.. no luck.
Same result. The internal partition marks as "corrupted".
Anyone, help? I really need it, lol.
Thanks anyway,
dandrumheller? Someone? I really need it ?
I readed some more and see that link2sd is a better option? What's the difference?

Don't know what to tell you, I just followed the post and it worked. Do you have another card you can try with?
Does the original card work normally again after going back to fat32?

I think yes. I have other card(s) but they are not mine.
But what's the difference from this method than link2sd?

Haven't used link2sd in many years. Used to require lots of manual management, but it's the same concept. 2 partitions on SD card, 2 different formats, apps on one, media etc on the other.
Give it a shot. Used to have to manually format SD card to ext2 (iirc) for the app partition.

I tried a thousand times with ext4 (and fat32) and it didnt work....
BUT WAIT, theres more! i tried with ext2 as you said (fat32 + ext2) and Just Works(tm)
Thanks, i really appreciate your help, you were the only one to respond lol...
PS: using apps2sd instead of link2sd as apps2sd has part manager, that's how i partitioned it, yay!
PS2: should i just use link2sd as "linker" and apps2sd as alternative/part manager?
thanks again ;D
Edit: I needed to change some config in SuperSU and create in advanced mode the Mnt script, but it works like a charm! It lets me move any app! ;D
