I started having the same problem a couple of days ago too. I think it is one of the apps that I recently installed from the market (flight view). I did a hard reset (uninstalled the battery while phone is on) and everything was fine for a day or two. Then it started happening again, so I suspected it was that particular app since it was there in "Running Services" despite not starting it. So I just uninstalled it and will see how things go.

Go into settings and make sure all Auto-Sync options for updates and social web sites are not ticked, if they are ticked these run constantly to check status check them manually when you want to, also turn WiFi on and off manually don't leave it on all the time.
Had the same issure. Apparently the problem was 3G/EDGE data transfers. By disabling all data transfer battery life was improved a lot, but then i needed internet frequently so having to turn on and off data transfer wasn't the best idea. Flashed the phone with generic firmware, and so far battery life is decent.
i'm having crappy battery on the latest update 2.0.2.A.0.24
i'm using the rooted version and JIT v2 enabled.
lost 15% in 6 hours last night with the phone not being used at all.
cell standby is killing my battery (57%), but i have good signal strength.
phone idle is at 17%, display 15%, system 5% and acore 3%.
something is going on with the cell standby.
i can't figure out if it's because i'm using google voice or something else.
something else is that my phone is now listing it's model as x10i, when it's an x10a. i know this is because of the generic update firmware. but i wonder if that has something to do with the standby battery drain.

FYI - total battery use must always add up to be 100% - It may appear that the cell standby is using up the most resources.. that may not always be the case. Check your time without signal..
Hmm it seems happen to me too since I tried Jit v2. Will try to revert back to v1. Will report back when I tried it.

Alright, so to update you guys, it has been 2 days since I removed the "culprit" app called flight view and my battery life is back to normal. So, if you all of a sudden see that your battery life is reduced, then go back and check the latest apps you installed. It is probably one of them that is causing the problem. Hope this helps.
I agree with certain apps constantly running in the background draining the battery. One way I found to determine what's doing what, is by using Advanced Task Killer, and periodically checking to see what apps are running(without being opened by myself), then killing all apps, then check back in a minute for the culprits. If it started up again on it's own and uses a lot of resources but I don't use it every day, I disable or uninstall it. When I need it again, I enable or reinstall it.
Also, set advanced task killer to kill all apps on screen off. That will help your standby time. Set apps you need running in background, like messaging, to ignore.
Also, turn down the brightness of you screen, and shorten the screen timeout length. They all can add a few seconds and a few clicks to certain tasks, but I still have 30% battery the mornings after I forget to hook up my charger the night before.

The problem is I don't install new apps after applying Jit v2. And my battery works fine with Jit v1. Well today I tried to remark #dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit. Let's see how the battery performance today. ^_^
Btw the linpack score is still the same around 32.

With the line remark, I got boost of performance with the battery. In two hours and twenty minutes idle and texting twice, I still had 100% which is awesome. Now I will try to always on my wifi like before and lets see what happen. ^_^

Hey can u please explain about that 'line remark' code thingy?
I love xda app on my Xperia X10i phone =D
I've deleted some recent apps and my battery return to normal.
It might be because of apps running in the background. Things like moixer mail and track id is notorious for battery drain issues. Better get them removed via titanium backup

If you updated your X10a into X10i, and you are now experiencing battery or connection problems it could be due to the missing cell broadcast widget called Cell Information only found in the X10a firmware and possible other unknown differences.

Recently my battery charging took like 2 hrs for about 10% when phone is on. Charged normaly when its off. I did clean install of FreeX10-beta4 and Black & White Theme CM Black Bar - Miui Fixed v0.4.2 but problem is still here. I cleared battery stats, dalvik cache and all that.
Do i need a new battery or is there some trick to it?
Sorry for bad english and thanks in advance
Do u have battery drain issues too?
I had a similar issue to when i ran that rom. I am running a different one thats in my signature with no issues
Sent from XDA Premium from my X10a rooted running 2.2.1 CM Rom from Rendeiro2005
Not really. It lasts for about a day with moderate use. More or less the same as the stock rom. I guess i can try Cyanogen or some other rom to see is there any change before buying new battery
I think the rom in my signature runs beautifully. A lot better than the free x10 froyo. U should that one or wolfbreaks. Those r the top CM i heard about. I have no issues with the one i am on

I suspekt putting apps to sd drain my battery, even got a worse performance. Maybe because of a slow SD card.
Running wolfis cm 6.1.3 4.5.7 if i remember correctly

Anyway..i suggest you to use 'seepu' application from market to keep under control your cpu activity and to find if there are some loop of something else!! And also battery eta application that show you your actualy battery drain so you can also compare roms!!
Cheers

I charged my battery to 100%, took it out and put it back in, when it booted it was at 1% for some reason but it charges normally again :s. I have only few apps so i dont use app2sd or anything like that.
Anyhow ill try some other rom anyway just to see if there's any big difference coz battery is my biggest problem on any phone
Thank you for the tips
I have serious problem with my Xperia S battery.
My battery runs over very fast and when Im charging my phone and I play a game the same time. I am thinkng of rooting it just to make my battery last longer but since Im new here and I haven't attended to root a phone yet I would be glad if you could answer some of my questions like:
1) Would rooting affect my battery life?
2) What risks do I take?
3) Any other suggestion?
I have tried many apps in the past like advanced task killer (which auto kills every app when screen is off), I deactivated Contacts and installed exDialer and I have reduced my screen's brightness to about 20%. Im desperate because Im leaving in holidays and if my phone continues like this it will probably be a pain in the *bip*
*My search on extended batteries was pointless since XS's battery can't be removed except you unscrew some screws. (not sure about that phrase)
Thanks for time and sorry for any mistake I possibly made!
1. No, but installing custom ROM's may increase battery life.
2. Bricking it, but the rooting procedures for XS is pretty simple.
3. Yeah.
Go to settings -> battery. Whats using most battery?
I also recommend you installing "GO Power Master" from play. With this app, you can see what hardware AND app using battery! Very nice app.
Then close the apps that may eating your battery.
And every widgets on the home screen and in the top statusbar also draines battery. Also make sure autosync is off if u want to save battery.
Good luck!

why ? wifi decreases battery level extremely !?
Wifi cannot increase your battery life...
I'd suggest rooting the phone that way you can uninstall system-apps and uninstall bloatware. Alternatively try stopping unnecessary apps running under options-> Apps. Playing games will greatly reduce your battery life... If I play final fantasy 3 for two hours I'll lose 40-50% battery life! Rooting it's fairly simple... Of course there is always a risk. Ensure you have full battery if you choose to root...

As I said it's the first time I will attemp to root a phone so is there any tutorial on how to do it on my XS? What ROM would you suggest for better battery life?

i think prety much we are the best sony's handset so far (exept acro s),so a jb update will come out (but we will have to wait a bit......sony is really slow with updates, imagine that i still dont have official ics and its F*CKING AUGUST!!!!)
also when you have rooted your device try freezing the "com.sonyerricson.awake" it drains a lot of battery as i've heard

Use Battery calibration maybe ?
i gonna test that
Hello guys,
I'm a little bit desperate with my battery. One month ago I updated from ICS to JB in my s2 i9100 and the horrible loop started:
- Between 100-70% of charge everything is going more or less ok
- Suddenly, phone turns off. After restarting, the battery is around 40% and very unstable
- Now it's even worse, without charger, the phone remains up only 15-20 minutes.
I tried EVERYTHING:
- All the roms for JB (all versions of RR, Paranoid Android) with all the combination of Kernels (CM10, Siyah and Dorimanx)
- Go back to ICS (of course, for every ROM I give to the phone 2-3 days to stabilise it)
- Battery calibration tools of the play store (even I paid 3$ for one of them)
- Battery calibration without being ROOT (the trick of this thread did not work. I tried 3 times)
- Reset fuel gauge chip from the ex-Tweaks
...
Any other idea/clue?
I'm about to give up, I think I'm going to get a new battery. I prefer to pay 15-20$ than spending hours trying to figure it out.
The last question. I'm assuming that a brand new battery will fix this problem. Am I right? I'm afraid of buying a new battery and facing the same issue.
If I get a new one I am supposed to do some operation on the phone before to install it?
Currently I'm using RR 3.1.1 with dorimanx kernel.
Thank you very much in advance!*
You guys do an AWESOME job with this forum.
How is your battery now? Did you try to remove it for a while? Did you test to wipe battery stats in recovery?

My battery SUCKS now. If I'm using the telephone in a normal way (surfing, music, videos)... it goes down every 30 minutes.
I'm going to try to remove for a while right now. You mean, minutes, hours, days?
Yes, I tried to wipe battery stats from recovery with no results.
Thank YOU very much for your interest
just remove it 2-3 min but i don't think it will be better. Can you tell me how is it after. Thanks.

Try RootBox 3.0 with dorimanx 7.4. I've been using it since it came out with no problems.
If you're worried about battery try better battery stats to check the wakelocks and cpu spy to see if your device is deep sleeping

Better Battery Stats
Battery Master .
As mentioned above BetterBatteryStats is really helpful to find the reason why your phone isn't going in deep sleep. Another app you can trie is Wakelock Detector (can't post the playstore link (not enough posts), sorry) :good:
Battery drain since last update in july
Hi there, so sorry to share your thread.
I have been experiencing a huge battery drain since the last small update on kies in July 2013. I am on I9300XXEMA5.
Before the update i used to be able to use around 4 to 5 hours of screen time and the battery will last around a day and a half or more. Now it won't even last a day and i get only a maximum of 3 hours of screen time. I have tried changing my battery but the problem still persists. The original battery that came with the phone is around 8 months old.
I also have a friend also using a SGS3 who is experiencing the same problem.
Is there anything that i can do to try to get at least a full days' worth of charge?
thanks.

I had that same problem on my Galaxy S2 after upgrade from ICS to JB via Kies. Some files remained from the older Android ICS version and they caused the battery drain..
Only solution was "wipe cache partition" and "wipe data/factory reset" in recovery.
(Only "wipe cache partition" could've worked but i wanted to be sure) and that did the trick, battery drain disappeared..
I recommend you to first try "wipe cache partition", and if that doesn't help "wipe data/factory reset" BUT you should FIRST backup your files before that because they will be gone after factory reset.
That helped on my S2, but i think it will help in your case on your S3.
Sorry for my spelling and grammar mistakes, im from Croatia

This is exactly what i did and the battery life is back to how it used to be.

Have you heard of zerolemon?
I also experience battery drain with my s3 however purchasing a batterycase has greatly improved batterylife
I have heard of zerolemon. but the extended batteries will make the phone fatter which is something i wouldnot want. But since i managed to get the maximum out of the stock battery now. i am quite happy.

not really a 2400mah zerolemon battery fits the stock case
Right. i didnt know that. i;ll think of that when i need a spare or replacement battery.
Yes i understand many people donot like the bulk it adds to your cellphone however i am away from my desk for long periods a day and the 7000mAH battery really does the trick.
