I had bought my xperia sometime around Jul'10 & updated it to 2.1 when it was available & then started facing this problem. The battery gets overheated, specially when charging, & when any activity is performed on the phone then, the phone goes into a loop of rebooting, stabilizing only when the battery cools off. Not only that, when on the move, apps like maps is initiated, the phone often reboots, so much so that it sometimes happens 4/5 times in a day, 2/3 times together. Since yesterday, the phone rebooted more than 10 times, twice with a sudden jarring sound while closing down. The CS are saying they will update the software, but that won't solve the problem as my phone shows to be up to date in PC companion. My phone is an unrooted one with the foll specifications:
Firmware: 2.1-update 1
Baseband: 2.0.49
Kernel: 2.6.29
Build: 2.0.2.A.0.24.
Any help our suggestions will be extremely welcome.

go to ur nearest se service centre.
its a motherboard problem, it will be replaced.
mine had also the same problem, now fine.
no software issues.
Those fools dont believe until they see. How to convince them? I can't wait the entire day in the centre waiting for my phone to reboot. How did you convince them?

I would reflash the fw and see if that helps. I was using a rogers fw and it had reboot problems.

Just now I called up SE India. They say to update the phone software once again, as update may not have been 'proper'. In the meantime the problem is killing me. I shall try the update once again.

I had the same problem too, then i sent to the service centre but they only updated my X10 to the newest firmware by used of US.After i took back my phone the reboot loop problem still there.I had no choice and sent it to service centre again. Now they aware it's the motherboard problems.Almost 1 months,i haven't get back my phone.I can't withstand what they are doing on changing the motherboard, does it need 1 month of time???
Ill report back to you. I shall take a video & take to the service centre.

Have you got the multi-touch update, that seems to of solved my reboot issue
Firmware - 2.1update1
Baseband - 2.1.54
Kernel - 2.6.29
Build - 2.1.A.0.435
Yes, I got that, but my issue is not resolved.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
the cs will always just flash the phone and claim an resolved issue, however after 3 or 4 time someone will read the error-description more closely and replace the motherboard or refuse warrenty at all (has all happend)
Hardware problem, flashing new firmware wouldn't save the day. You need to have main pcb replaced with new.

Hi!
My name is Johan I live in Sweden and I work as a social media coordinator for Sony Ericsson. I stumbled across this thread and saw that it might need some guidance.
I'm really sorry to hear about this problem, and if your phone has been in for that amount of time at the service location you should contact your local support team to check status and see what you can do.
You guys can find me and my other team mates on our talk site.

I had this issue on my second handset sony refusef to see it was hardware related and kept reflashing firmware. After a huge dispute and no reply from complaints i got a bew handset from my carrier. This is a common fault they know fine well of it but rufuse. Therez a massive thread ob their owm support forum where there is not 1 reply from sony ericsson support themselves

Same problem occurred to me when upgraded to 2.1
Battery overheating as described above and also a problem with video recording in HD.
How do I prove them it is a hardware fault?

The restarts you are having.
Show them that at the store, them give them a detailed description of the overheating.
And be persistent i had to send in my device several times.
I could clearly see that they replaced the board due to the new IMEI and the board was a different color.
"i can actually see the difference in the manufacturing process"
I will try and do my best to convince them to replace the motherboard.
The good thing is that I can show them the video problem as well because it is always showing up.
I will keep you posted.
Cheers.

Ive had this for a couple months now, getting worse and worse, since 1.6, multiple re flashed etc. Never fixes, cant [lay games now it crashes and reboots certainly cant handle navigation! Seems to be a problem with the phones, waiting on a spare phone to use while I send mine back to SE. Very annoying sometimes it goes on a reboot cycle takes ages to come back up and keeps rebooting as soon as it starts. Always worse when plugged in to usb/wall
Hey i have been getting the same thing........ random reboots........ since i updated to 2'1. I flashed aosp firmware. Same thing there. Called SE, they said tht i might not have properly upgraded my phone, so come to SE Service Centre.

I haven't had these strange reboots, but lately while manually rebooting my phone it hangs on the rogers white screen for ages.
So? No solution yet? Mine goes into reboot when being charged, specially when opening some apps. The battery then, too, gets overheated. Any solution?

SE is completely ripping me off !!!
I went to their service centre, they told me my phone has been purchased outside my country and will have to pay for software restore and if hardware problem, 75% of mobile cost. It was purchased outside of my country, but I never had this problem with other electronic devices.
My phone was running z's rom 2.2 for x10 when I took it out of my pocket and the screen was black. The blue lights turned on but not the screen. When I turned off the phone, it wouldn't turn back on.
The computer won't recognize it for flash tool or se fix software or battery won't charge if I hook it up to the charger. what do I do? I have never had this issue before. help would be awesome.
thanks. is it bricked?
Solution sort of: I took my phone in to ATT service center and they said my phone and battery weren't working. So I got a new phone for free. (THANK GOD) Xperia x10 refurbished. So I got to mod it all over again. lol. They couldn't tell me what I did wrong or anything. So I guess I have a solution. So whoever has an issue like me, lets just hope your phone isn't dead like mine The other sad thing was they didn't have a battery for me so they are sending me one through the mail. by tomorrow. one day shipping yess!!!! Thanks for all those who put in helpful ideas. Doing some serious phone pimping pretty soon once I get my battery.
Can you boot into xRecovery?
I have a similar issue here.
I am using the CM6.1.3 custom ROM on my phone (Android 2.2). It ran out of battery(for its first time) this afternoon so I charged it and tried to turn it back on but it wouldn't. It just starts up until the Sony Ericsson logo and just fades out and a white light will turn on at the notification lamp for a while and then reboot again. I tried the Sony Ericsson update service to reinstall the software but I changed the firmware and baseband so it doesn't work and it doesn't seem to be able to boot into xRecovery either. What can I do? Help/advice appreciated!
Problem might be with the faulty offline charging.so your battery's flat.I believe there is a fix for the problem, you might need to borrow a battery, install the fix(check the Rom main page) then you should be good to go :
You could also flash a clean rom using the flashtool version 1.3 I think

can you teach me how to flash a clean rom using the flashtool? i already have the flashtool but i dont really know how to use it
thanks
Look in the development section as there are detailed descriptions on this already, but I can say not to worry as it's impossible to brick this phone, it can always be returned to stock. It's the only good thing about not having a cracked bootloader, we cannot be bricked

My xperia is rebooting itself several times in the day. I updated to gingerbread to see if the 2.3 fixes this problem but it still there.
Could it be the battery?
Any help would be great
Maybe you can tell us more about your issue. when did it begin ? Does your phone reboot after a specific event ? How did you proceed to the 2.3 update ?
Are you on stock or custom ROM?
Try wipe dalvik and fix permission.
When you update to 2.3.3, did you restore any data from previous ROM?

Hi,
Not sure if this is the same problem but my x10i got quite hot recently and after kept randomly shutting down (mainly when under load but sometimes just sat overnight) I read on a Sony Ericsson thread that quite a lot of people have had the issue and in my situation could be a motherboard problem. (Heres the thread link) ... be warned though it's a long thread!
Took mine back to o2 for warranty repair as by this time it had become unusable ... just opening the browser shut the phone down!. 4 days later I got a refurbished sgs2 as a replacement (which was nice!) and a letter saying they couldn't repair the phone in the alloted time.
I have a phone x10 and when brought him cargo is heated in a strange way and continues to work to restart and repeat the process until you remove the battery from it and allow it to cool down and when you update it to 2.3 increased this problem and also occurs when I open any application on the device is heated and continues to work to restart even remove the battery and leave it cool I do not know what the solution and knowing I was in Egypt I do not trust any of the maintenance engineers here, what is the solution
Looks like battery problem.
Try another battery,if problem still persists then its a hardware problem.

Try wipe battery cache, then calibrate your battery.
If didnt help try another battery, but if same problem occurs, looks like hardware problem. Im sorry mate.

I just don't understand what do you mean :confuse: "continue to work to restart" it mean boot up and restart immediately? If you repaired you phone and it can't help, you should bring it to SE Service cause it maybe hardware errors. Even if the phone boot up and restart, just repair and it will be OK cause it's sofeware error. Your situation should be hardware...
Sounds like a Battery Problem. Although, with my Motorola Droid X i also have a battery that heats up a lot.
But just to make sure, see if you can find another battery (maybe from another x10) or something, then test to see if the battery does that same. If with another battery, the phone still heats up, then its a hardware problem.
If the phone doesn't heat up with another battery, then the original battery is the problem.
i'm from Egypt too... got my phone stuck at SE Logo but SE service (Delta office in mansoura) gave me a new stock 2.1 ROM...they can calibrate ur battery but i can't affirm they will fix the hardware issue... any way if u have a warranty they will replace ur X10i with a new one.
NOTE:1.they will check ur phone first for 20 L.E (IF U DON'T HAVE WARRANTY)
2.if u have warranty and they told u that they can't replace ur phone cause they don't have any (saw that with my eyes) or any reason just e-mail SE telling them all about that with the name of SE service company and so on(some one said it worked for him and they replaced his phone).
3.if the problem is only a software please refer to the forum (u don't want to be charged 100 L.E if u don't have warranty).
I have been suffering with this problem Very Dhambad!!!
someone please help me to fix my phone!!!
This is the problem (youtube.com/watch?v=J6LEKZx1SEs) Xperia mini Overheats and then back and menu key Activating itself and i can't do f** thing on it
i have been trying to do following things
1. Find Sony Ericsson Service center (No Service SE service center in my country)
2. trying to cool my phone (yes it worked, so bad they haven't built a mobile fan for that!)
3. Curse SE for building ST15i
4. deactivating back menu key and using virtual keypad app (this works well until i find out the screen gating unresponsive i cannot delete a wiget when overhets)
i think driver update will help to solve this issue
i have been keeping eye on this (talk.sonyericsson.com/thread/23778?start=720&tstart=0) webblog (finaly i am not the onle one )
as per advice of ikko17, you need to go to the nearest SE Service Center, and look for a technician (not the attendant) and ask if Calibration tools/fix for xperia mini is available then let them do the calibration if they have,.
I had same isuue with my st15, I gave it to service center, after 3 days they gave my phone back and said that the have caliberated it, but after 2 hours of use, the buttons reactivated again, so I gave it to servica center again and they said that they cant cant fix it and they gave me a replacement certificate and they kept my phone, I gave that certificate to the store I bought the phone from and they gave me a new ST15i after 2 days
so ask the service center guy for replacement certificate
Well thanks guys, but the thing is...
1.I am in sri lanka i have found no sony ericsson service center in my country.
2.My phone have no warranty and (yes my bad, i had to think twice before i buy this dahm **** of peace on Stoke Seller)
3 My phone is Rooted and soon i am going to try CM7 ROM onit
This is i need to know form you
1.Will CM7 OR other Custom ROM have different drivers to the Menu and back touch(maybe heat) keypad
2.Or other way?
I've read on gsmarena that updating to 2.3.4 removes this issue, did you updated it, which version are you running?
YES! First Thing i done is that!!!
Build Number is 4.0.2.A.0.42
img607.imageshack.us/img607/240/screenshot201112011957.png
then I'm afraid you wont get any solution other than searching for some service center, seding it to some other company for repair or contacting SE if you're able to caliberate it yourself
I have been using my mini for almost 3 months now. And it didn't gave me that menu and back key malfunction. Although, I think I've managed to recreate the problem by charging the unit, turning on 3G, WiFi, browsing and then played a game such as blood&glory. Within the less than 10minutes, the phone heated up and soon after the back keys kept on clicking. Turned the unit off by removing the battery and then placed the battery at the aircon to cool it off. After it cooled off along with the phone, put it back in and turn it on. It works normally again.
My question is, what were you exactly doing before the problem occurred?
Sent from my ST15i using XDA App
I Think it is a Manufacturing Driver Calibrate problem.
But, I already have tried that, you know what they told me?
"Android what android?" something like that thy do know about Phone Hardware but not software(Android) while i can solve this by myself(As SE say they simply recaliberate Device) I need those recaliberation steps, Please If you are able to get those for me it is a Big Help!!!
This phone needs to be handed in at a repair centre to be either repaired or exchanged.
Now, since you don't have your warranty left this will be a cost issue as it no longer can be treated at no cost for you.
If you want to get in touch with a repair centre you should either ask your dealer for help or call/email the local support team.
The support for Sri Lanka is handled from Philippines.

Do you know if there is a fix that can be done, I heard somebody had their phone taken the se service and they updated the SK15i to .62 and then added a patch for the heat sensitivity so it dont happen again and they guy reported that it never happened again?.
Anyway we can do this at home, like we root devices? I'm wondering if we can get access to this patch?
Thanks
