Does anyone have firsthand experience? The Verizon SIM uses a weird auth protocol that also checks the ESN of the phone to authenticate on a roaming network. This is nonstandard and something I would guess typical rom builders wouldn't even know about.
I know I could use another SIM but I particularly need the unlimited data plan that's attached to the vzw/vodafone stock SIM.

There's a hotfix for Fission 2.4.3 that claims to make the SIM work correctly. I haven't been out of the US since I installed it though, so I can't confirm anything.

Is there anyway to see more details on this? Googling produces no trace of explanation and I'd like to see the code or at least a written word before I install the rom. If it doesn't work I will be screwed since I only use this phone for roaming via the Verizon SIM.

To be clear bot just a "use SIM " hotfix but one that works with the weird vzw sim which is the only way to roam on the GlobalData plan. I do not want to use any other local sim.

It works fine. I have tested it. Rogers Canada sim/service/location.

Could always make a complete Nandroid Backup - then if the other rom doesn't work you can restore the nandroid backup. That way you're safe no matter what, right?
Or can you not do that on Motorola Devices like we can with HTC/ clockwork mod custom recovery?
@thesuperman - There is clockwork - yes - that's how you install custom roms (or should i say rom) Also - there is always SBF available if you want to go stock. Easy.
@BobbySteel - Verizon users have reported using Fission with Verizon SIM outside US. Too lazy to look up the exact post now - just read thru the forums.

My friend has a Droid Eris currently on PagePlus (part of Verizon). Does he need to reactivate the phone if he flashes a new ROM?
I've only had GSM phones so enlighten me
Normally flashing ROMs doesn't affect activation but I don't know specifically for PagePlus.

Most likely, flashing doesn't affect activation. You can always just *228 and Number 1 as well just in case you want to try activating just in case. It shouldn't screw anything up. =P Or 2 for updating your phone.
Does anybody happen to have or is willing to make a Milestone X2 SBF for the Altell network? I am currently running the Ntelos SBF with no data connectivity. Any help would be appreciated.
I need the x2 sbf for alltel also, I can find it for the x but not x2
All your missing is the carrier files for that network. Try doing a more thorough search for the altell sbf or nandroid. That or if you can. take it in to your store tell them you got a bad flash and you just need them to write the carrier specific files to your phone so you can use it to connect again. It's easier and probably faster than having to scour arroud to find it.

I'm pretty sure the Alltel sbf isn't on the internet lol cause I've searched extensively, and I've found/used other SBFs so it's not that I cant find any(though if I'm wrong about this I would gladly accept being proven wrong lol)
And I've taken phones into Alltel (HTC desire for US Cellular and Droid X2 for verizon) n got them to set them up on my account but with both of them the data stayed on my old phone n wouldn't work on the new ones. With the HTC I RUUed it with the Alltel one, with the DX2 i used the Ntelos SBF since I couldn't find an alltel one n figured if it didnt say verizon they wouldn't try the "this is a verizon phone, it wont work. just give up and leave" method lol
Maybe just getting the baseband would work, but finding that's about as impossible as finding the SBF in my experience

Try asking for someone to upload a stock nandroid of an altel phone. Write the ntelos sbf and restore the altel nandroid over top of it. If you don't want it to look like it was rooted do a factory reset and un install the recovery app. After that it should have altel branding everywhere but the kernel which will say ntelos. If you that doesn't give the phone network access try talking to a I.t. Rep and tell them the phone works all it needs is the apns and base band to be updated to their network. I've done before with my phone no problems the problem is getting a hold of the right people who will do what you need

no solution is currently available to use 3g once you ics
even if you have a verizon 4g sim
even beigephone can't come up with one without a 4g chip as of this writing
more of verizon locking down their phones
depending on the rom some will work with 4g but these is a trick to it, try searching the forums

i've searched forums for weeks and no avail stock gb 181 to ota ics
like you saying there is a trick to go search doesn't help anyone
people claim to have solution but don't publish it and others don't get all features running
others really don't have ota ics and still on gb

mine is done by beigephone
took ota ics and lost internet connect although in the mobile settings i can see 3g/1x signal strength 3 bars
used cdmaws paid to flash and still can't get it back

they're reflashed for free in the past. although i don't expect it this time
its cheaper than the alternatives in the long run. could have gone to V ported to prepaid for one month then port back to ppc and see what happens. would cost me more than 50 for that
one no one seems to know what bp does different unless they have the uber expensive software that can do more than cdmaws. maybe just a bug in the phone from the update....who knows...

I used qpst and DFS I don't have cdma workshop
there is a thread on howard forums post 11 tells how
you do not have to use any cut now there is a *#*#4636#*#* for phone info to change the radio to lte cdma evdo
I did the over the air as a tester for motorola simm has to be in for data to work I have no mms
In menu settings about phone status it does not show phone number or prl but when I read phone in qpst or DFS all info comes up
Phone works great though I have not factory reset it not sure if that makes any difference or not

bionic and razr are 2 different phones 4636 doesnt work on razr there are apps for that or ##program
i have factory reset but it didn't do anything. i was rooted before and after with no problems rerooting
i'm thinking its all in the sim card and might need to be erased or replaced or a dealer needs to activate it somehow...just guessing

4636 does work on the razr?
devs would say to use it to toggle to gsm then back to lte to get data working. so i guess not on stock roms?
i have the gsm razr, so i don't know if it's disabled on stock cdma

I am on 211 OTA ICS on the razr maxx and *#*#4636#*#* sure does work it did not on GB but it works Fine on ICS try it you will see

So pltctytc, were you able to install ICS and get data working on Pageplus with the 4g SIM card?
I have the 4g SIM Card that came from Verizon in the phone and if i remove it, data doesnt work on GB and goes on roaming mode. Putting back in, data starts working again.
I was thinking of safestrap and install an ICS leak on the safe-side but what I have read is that you have to have ICS on the non-safe side also. The other option is safestrap and then install the stock .181 on the safe side and then try and see if it will OTA update from it to ICS. If anything goes haywire, i can go back to the non-safe side.

I just got a Razr XT912 that came with a SIM. I assume you mean a "clean" SIM? Does this just apply to the Maxx? I'd really like to be on ICS (now on GB 2.3.6) before I try flashing on my own.

Rezound radios are designed for verizon towers, im not sure it will work with a t mobile sim. But you could still unlock it and what not it just won't get service or data

I have been sucessfully using the phone since I purchased it in March. I know there has been a fix for data and I believe SMS. Now there is an ICS update. I cave not rooted or flashed or modded just kind of waited until the official update to see what it changed. Your thoughts?
I'm using my Rezound on T-Mobile. You will only get EDGE (2G) since the rezound doesn't have T-Mobile's AWS band. The same with AT&T I believe (only 2G). The Rezound is already SIM unlocked all you need is a GSM ROM
Unless you live in an area where they have refarmed their 2G to 3G. AT&T has already done it in New York City (downtown). And T-Mobile in Washington State (some city there idk).
The gist of it is. For the moment on the HTC Rezound with a US GSM carrier you will only have 2G (EDGE) data connection. Until those carriers switch their 2G off and refarm it to 3G.
I just want to update it with ics. Try the fixes for data, sim etc that everybody else has used. I just don't know where to start.

Data is just a matter of Setting the APN... While SMS is deeper in the ROM..
If you are on Stock ICS then flash this http://dl.dropbox.com/u/46585775/HTC Rezound/STOCKGSMFIX.zip
Then go into your dialer *#*#4636#*#* and check under phone information that GSM is selected.
BACKUP!! BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANYTHING
Or you can just flash one of the ICS roms (GSM) that have Sense 4 so you won't get the "Invalid Sim blah blah"

? Even when I had Verizon the APN settings was changeable...
Why don't you just backup and flash either the Stock ICS or a custom ROM and then restore just your DATA and see if it doesn't give you any issues?
What do you recommend for a good back up application and where should I get the ics flashed from? I don't know why the APN is grayed out if I knew how to do a screen shot I would post it for you.

If you are dev-unlocked or have S-OFF you can use amon ra to do a complete system backup...
But there is an app in the Play Store called ROM Toolbox Lite which lets you backup apps, bookmarks etc to your sdcard... Then all you got to do is flash a rom you want and redownload the Toolbox app from the play store and restore.
I downloaded the tool box lite and received a message that it failed to obtain root access. I guess that means that I am unrooted? Not quite sure what root or unroot means.

By that I assume you do not have an unlocked bootloader? And you are as stock as you can get.
If you are 100% Stock and you want ICS.. You could update by flashing the ICS PH98IMG.zip via the bootloader.. but that will cause a factory reset with no hope of getting anything backed up.
Back when the rezound was released there was a Temp Root method but it never worked for me. If you acheive Temp Root you can run ToolBox and do an app backup.
Root = Having control of Androids System and being able to do backups/restore

If you achieve Temp Root using the link i posted.. All You will gain is root privilege until the phone is powered off.
While in Temp root you should be able to create a backup of your phone to your sdcard.
So Make Sure you Have the HTC Drivers Installed
And that you have ADB installed

Well technically the update should present itself to you aslong as you have an active DATA connection. Now being on T-Mobile might be whats stopping the update from coming to your rezound.
You do not need Root to update to ICS since the update is available on the internet for you to download and install it via sdcard. But you won't be able to backup anything besides what Google Backs up on it own (Contacts & App purchases).
So If you want to stay Stock and upgrade to ICS then you can go ahead and download the ICS update and install it via sdcard. Just remember you will loose everything not saved in the sdcard (internal or external won't be touched).

Flashing is re-programming the NV part of the phone for another CDMA provider. The SIM card is for GSM. What are you trying to do?

Save yourself the time and effort and get better service by using the Straight Talk GSM service. The Moto should already be unlocked. They have 2 different types of SIM cards, ones that use the AT&T towers and ones that use T-Mobile, so you can pick whichever works best in your area.

I purchased the $60 sim bundle and have successfully gotten voice and text to work on straight talk with my droid ultra. However no matter what I change the APN setting to I cannot get data to work. Let me know if you can think why this may be happening.

Straight Talk is notorious for having a variety of APN settings. It can be pretty annoying if you don't find the right one for your phone / update.
