Hey,
i just want to understand the structure of this phone, so i can i compare it with a normal PC, or how far can it compared with a PC
the bootloader is more or less the BIOS, and in our case, it is locked, but what mean "locked". Are we simply unable to change the "boot order"??
What is xRecovery, something like the "Safe-Mode" in Windows?
Why we are able to hit the back button to enter xRecovery, although the bootloader is locked
Why is it so difficult to make the camcorder work? Because we just overwrite the stock firmware from SE with FreeX10 or any other ROM
cheers
naja so einfach geht das nun auch wieder nicht...
xrecovery wird durch die chargemon datei beim drücken der zurück taste hervorgerufen (bevor android startet)
man kann es nich einfach mit nem PC vergleichen
--------------------------
that's not so easy
you'll get into xrecovery (through the chargemon.txt)when your pressing the back button
you can't complain it with a PC
lol is my english really so bad xD

Did you two above even bother to read the first post? He is looking to explain how the os and bootloader works/exists in the phone with computer terms so he understands it... Not compare it to his phone in terms of which is better... Ugh *shakes head*

It basically is a PC running linux but don't think of the bootloader as just the BIOS. Its different because it has direct control over loading the kernal. Windows has a kernal too but its not often talked about. Think if you had a windows 98 machine with that kernal of course and it was locked so you couldn't upgrade it to win XP. Now you could modify the windows 98 to look and behave more like XP but its still win 98 underneath. That's basically what the developers are doing.
And from what I can tell xrecovery is kind of like opening a dos shell with a GUI.
That's how I understand it, if anyone has corrections or better analogies feel free to add to what I started.

I did understand, I must disagree on one thing though, macs are awesome computers!
Actually a stone is best used on a Mac

meh only people that complain are those that can't afford one or have never had one
My take on it is that the bootloader in Android is similar to the BIOS/ Bootstrap in Windows... but it's slightly different in that the older bootloaders aren't as capable and efficient as the newer ones... so certain features of the newer android versions either don't work, or don't work as well as they should because the underlying core is older.
So we can get "newer" OS's onto the x10 but the bootloader isn't 100% compatible with the OS..
The Camera/ Video problems - I don't know for sure but it's likely to be related to the fact that the Camera and video interfaces developed by SE hook into the hardware via the SE implementation of Android.. so without the SE layer inbetween the Hardware and the Camera App it doesn't work.. therefore the Devs are trying to bridge that gap.. and struggling by all accounts.

EVO8
It's based on 18508 wm6 rom
I'm just testing right now
One first impression is that I do not like the mix of fonts. Feels snappy though.
I miss the Network config tool. Feels kind of oldfashioned to edit the settings manually or by a cabfile.

Hi, Gullum, how about flash it from the very wm6 operating in your device now^^?
I'm not so sure, but according to Youzii, EVO8 can be flash from WM6 roms directly...^^ (for me, EVO's series never required me to downgread first for flashing it...)
Have you tried toflash in bootloader mode?

Yes I've tried but I just get the bootloader again when finished flashing WM5
I'm trying NVID now and hope it works I will figur it out hopefully
Edit: Got my phone working again
waiting for your new notices about your prophet. Cross wour fingers
EVO's cooking utinity is somewhat different, so users who cannot flash EVO8 please re-flash it again with the "how-to" below:
------------------------------------------------------------
1.Flash PV_TEMP (download PV_Temp http://tom-love.net/Rom/Prophet/WM6....et_PV_Temp.zip )
2.Install Cert_SPCS.cab、EnableRapi.cab to the wm5 PVTEMP (your ppc). (donwload the two files at the same EVO site)
3.Execute EVO7.part1.exe >> choose upgrade method 3 (No bother to try part 2, double click EVO7.1 Part 1 will do the tricks)
Note: Part 1 and Part 2 are the same file devided into two parts. The former is a self-decompressing file which associates the latter by itself)
4.Wait for 20 mins or so. (or you may like to check PdocWrite out in your PC for time's saving.)
5. 1st device configuration (the first time)
6.Hard-reset (type 1234 on Clear Storage, rather than hold two buttons + the tiny hole pricking, is strongly recommanded).
7. 2nd device configuration (the second time)
8. Start enjoying your "brand-new" device!

I hate to say this, but almost every version of EVO series was and still is the fastest, if not also the most reliable rom comtemporarily....
If it were not true, I shouldn't have endured some Chinese EVOs long before ^^"
Believe it or not -- it only takes 3/4 round to open the Windows file (Resco Explorer, all options of browser crossed off), with its HTCHome installed, Chinese IM settled, dozens of applications activated by shourtcuts created from the SD, and an overclocked 264HMz CPU.
However, every rom shared here are great. Some are good at creativeness, while others richness with a lot of apps.
Many many thinks to Youzii and all rom masters!! Thanks for your sharing!!

hi i don´t think i am the only one who has problem with wallpappers from today themes on this rom. So we should try to solve this.
The problem is that when you select new theme, system colors change, but wallpapper is still blue like in wm7 theme (on some themes it works normally, i have no idea why).
Any idea where in registry would it be possible to repair it?
thanx for reply
anybody knows?

Hello guys ! First, excuse me for my poor English and sorry if this problem have already been solved I searched before but didn't find exactly my problem.
I tried to boot Android (dcordes one) yesterday and my HD2 couldn't reboot.
So I flashed Artemis v22 and it booted, but my HD2 was very long to boot. So I imported my contact & cie and then play around whit it (installing CHT, Themes...)
But like 1 hour after, many apps stop to function and force me to reboot my device.
I reboot it and it takes like 5 minutes to boot... Once it's done, my HD2 show me again the tutorial about how to type, and to configure my email, facebook, twitter & cie.
I tried to flash Artemis v15 or v18 but I get the same problem...
And this problem happened right after I tried Android.
Did I screw my processor ? Or is it just one app that cause the problem ?
If anyone have a solution, i'm listening .
Thank you for reading me and again, sorry for my English. ;-)

Yeah, I understand that... Believe me, as both a Windows Mobile & Android developer, I would love nothing more than to have both on my phone (for testing, of course... ). However, this is still really early in development and until a stable build comes out, there is too much risk and seriously bricking your device... Just a word of caution.

You are so right Dotnetguyaz. The idea of running Android and WinMo together is really exciting but till the stability of port is not achieved, caution is our friend.
Hello Guy's,
this is my first post after spending _hours_ with searching and trying to flash my 2 Year Old HTC Hero.
I want to give it a second live. Especialy my dad lost his old phone...
I'm very frustrated and I need maybe a suggestion from you to get startet.
Here are some fact's I tried:
Installed Rom:
HTC-Sense Android 1.6 preInstalled bei "Deutsche Telekom D1" (They told me!).
But Firmware say's "Firmware Version 1.5). So which Information counts?
Personally I guess I have 1.5 because your Device Database tells it's a T-Mobile G2 Touch (GSM i think)
SD-Card:
2GB with 1,6GB free
Tried to do flashing like mentioned in your wiki. And tried the CM-Wiki for the Hero
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Hero_%28GSM%29:_Full_Update_Guide
But flash_image tells:
Illegal Instruction...
ROM Manager is not found in the market.
Tried to download it and install it via ./adb install <image>.apk
This tells:
OLD_VERSION..
Guess I'm dealing with wrong App-Versions. Now I'm a little bit "confused" what exactly to do.
I thought about reset the whole phone an do some fresh install.
But all instrctions I can find on google or here is doing the things with "Rom Manager" or doing it with other Android versions than mine...
I'm not the guy who wants a step by step help and wasting other peoples time.
But I'm at a point, i need some link and/or small advice how to start the right way...
Thanks a lot
When I rooted and installed my first custom rom I used this guide and I had no problems at all

With best regards and peace and freedom to Norway! (we think a lot to you in these hard times!)
Here is my feedback:
All works wonderful!
This is by far the best HowTo I dealed with, the last days!
Installed elelinux froyo 6.2.0. It looks nice.
Two last questions:
Where kann I "thank you"? Didn't found a button (guess i'm blind *G*) ?!
Can anyone suggest a ROM with focus on long battery life and easy/intuitive phoning/contact management?
My dad is no power user ;-) ;-) All he needs are the above mentioned. Very old school *G*
Have a nice day!

Hey guys,
I'm searching for a solution to swap external sd to internal. I had to break the internal storage to make a I9003 working again.
Now, it boots the ROM from the external (but that's an other story).
Camera needs storage0 (internal storage) to work properly for DCIM. But I have only storage1 (inserted microsd).
In 2.3.6 swap sd was possible by editing vold.fstab. In Kitkat the opportunity has been denied.
I search for a way to make storage1 to storage0 in CM11. Does anyone have an idea? Do you know whether CyanogenMod is working on it?
Thanks ^^
Still no idea?

Since android 4.3 there no longer exist "vold.fstab"
U need to modify build.prop
go to /system/build.prop (via root explorer for instance)
and change
persist.sys.vold.switchexternal=0
to
persist.sys.vold.switchexternal=1
save it and reboot the device it may help

My i9001 has still a build from 21.03. synced. It's unofficial. The steps are big, not like nightlies, and that's great ^^
The i9003 of the friend is in his apartment. The build for the i9003 has some bugs, so I'll wait.
But the others here can share their results with the newest builds
The i9003 has cm working on (the only available one for this device) and I have PA 4.3.
So cm-related infos are welcomed

I'm managed to install and run CyanogenMod 11 after physically taking the faulty chip out of the device, but I now need to make it use the external SD card as the internal one.
Have you had any luck ?

man why they have to keep changing stuff. i spent days on this issue.
this is why android is having difficulty capturing the market from iphones.
2017, and i also getting this same problem with GT-P1000..
remove damaged internal storage, installed KK resurrection remix ROM on external storage..
-camera error "no external storage"
-browser error "can't download, no external storage"
-UMS no response (it worked on gingerbread before)
tinkerin' for 6 days, slept only at 7AM..
my eyes hurt (almost cryin' desperately too) from searching n tryin' n so on..
if only there's an angel with master linux degree, kindly enough to ease our 'fellow-pity-ship' misery..
You're not the only one…
Hi,
I tried for month to resurrect a tablet having the same problem.
My latest findings pointed to modifying the equivalent of the /etc/fstab file in the boot partition/image, but no tool I could find was able to open/modify the ROM image…
I eventually gave up and returned the tablet to its owner.
