Depends on what features you want. Totally Worthless T2 is the best kernel for my needs.

Depends what your looking for. I'm running Dow 14 HD and its awesome. OC to 1.4 ( without a problem) , voodoo color and sound. BLN.

Imm Runiinq Dhee samee...I Set Cpu To 1.4 too Andd It works perfect

s0niqu3s, its almost all stock so stable and good battery..
but, it adds voodoo (EXT4) and voodoo sound (get the app in the market) and you will be blown away at how better video/music sound on the Vibrant.
I really do not think any kernel could be better right now. OC'ing is (a) a drain on battery and (b) not worth it in my opinion, my phone is plenty snappy

Well, am using the dragon v5 with no problem, yet with some bugs and checking constantly on the forums, all I see on the post is the same issues on every other kernel posts: battery, lag, wake of death, headphone, mic failure , tests , etc , but if you all read the threads its all the same, great job from all devellopers here, but I guess what makes a rom or kernel useless is how some users flash, and complain on these forums , is there a better rom out there than bionix, for our vibrants?

What about the best kernel for Bionic-v 1.3.1? I really want to enhance the Sound and the video to my vibrant. I dont care for battery waste as I have like 5 extras and 3 of them are 3500mhz.
All I need is a great Customized Kernel that will make my phone much faster and enhance at top.
I installed the Tigers Blood Kernel and love it but is giving me bugs like I cant install or un-installed apps and SD card bugs to connect to PC
Any suggestions will be great

whats better ford, dodge, chevy? different strokes for different folks.test them out and see what you like the best. keep a note of battery life and data speeds. stuff like that. or im wrong and have no clue what i'm spewing out. ladder more true then the former.

Recently, many kernels released for vibrant. Find best suit for yr ROM. Right now i use Dead Horse Kernel ULF OC_UV for Bionix-v 1.3.1. Smooth, fast, no problem, Quad +/- 2200 and battery more than 2d at normal daily.

Try the Overstock kernel if you havent already. OCs to 1.2 and has Voodoo... You could add darkys tweak as well as the fugu tweak too if you want to kick it up another notch.
Vibrant, Bionix-v 1.3.1, Overstock 2.2 Voodoo...

Can I run a TW overclocked kernel on EDT ROM?

I'm liking flagship v4 and wondered if I could run, for instance, TW's 1.2ghz kernel without messing up my phone?
Thanks.
i guess you could but why theres better kernals that have less power drian an oc to 1.4ghz use the DoW14 kernel 1.1 its much much better an ya flags rom is nice but for performance an speed i would try out Bionix-v 1.2.1 unless ur dead set on flagship

Thanks for the reply....been watching the voodoo sound kernels for some time...tried the dragon 3.2 a few weeks back and could not live with battery drain. Seems that this is still an issue for dow14, even without OC....I'm gonna wait a little longer.
i ran bionix 1.2.1 for a few days but found it not as stable as 1.2, in fact I've found that the TW roms have given me issues since nero v5, which was a perfect rom.
Gonna such with flagship for now...
I had the same experiance. I like flagship theming better too. I tried dow and dead horse on flagship and went with deadhorse OC. Better battery and seemed more stable...but thats just me.

If by the TW 1.2ghz kernel you mean Core, then it will only work with Android 2.1 ROMs and not 2.2 ROMs.
EDT 2.2.1 + DOW1.4fow = awesome.
Dragon kernel 3.1.2 gave me best performance although i can only go up to 1280mhz
57FPS on neocore
weird thing is it's performance beats other dragon kernel versions even @ 1360mhz
48FPS only necore
have yet to try DOW kernels extensively ... tried it once for a short while but i experienced some instabilities and i guess i'm not familiar yet with setCPU
First off, this should have been asked (or searched) in the thread for the ROM, or kernel you're asking about. If you really had to make a new thread, this is absolutely the wrong section to post it in. It clutters the dev section, and gives the mods more unnecessary work. Theres a Q&A section for a reason. Not bashing, just for future reference.
That being said, Most of the recent 2.2 Vibrant kernels should work fine on most recent 2.2 ROMs. If you're worried, just make sure you have a flashable version of whatever kernel you're currently using on your internal SD to flash if anything goes wrong. That could save you from having to use Odin if anything were to happen.
Also, someone mentioned troubles with SetCPU. I personally prefer using init.d scrips to overclock. Most ROMs support them now. I don't need any extra apps/processes running, and it's always very smooth for me. That's just personal preference though.

Battery use for vibrant

I am currently running bionix 1.3.1 with kernel 2.6.32.9 (red edition theme too) and killed my battery in half a day. I have set cpu app and was wondering if anyone can help me tweak things a little to get better battery usage?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Hmmm, The Axura, EDT and Trigger roms have excellent battery. Are you overclocking ? 'cause if you are that will burn up battery and there is no fix or adjust for that, other than just running @ normal speed. Read the Bible for fixes and adjustments for the battery
If you're gonna burn battery that fast you might as well flash Gingerbread which is better.
I was actually looking for a gingerbread rom to flash but couldn't find one. I don't really want to use this much battery so fast but think its the team whiskey dragon rom edition kernel that I think is the problem.. it allows me to overclock which of course kills my battery. I was just looking for some tips to conserve battery. I set my setcpu settings to conservative and am going to see what it does. Should of stuck with my nexus-s or even nexus-1 but got two free phones and a fly rod out of deal than just a phone lol...

[Q] Which ROM should I use?

Right now, I am using Project V on Overstock Kernel, but I feel like it iis lacking a bit in the realm of customization. However, the speed and battery life is incredible. I need suggestions for a ROM that has decent battery life, good performance, good looks, and a decent amount of customization.

Axura is pretty good on all your needs and its pretty snappy too.
They have themes for it too and plenty of them. The battery life is very good too.
u can try toxic muzic ..is fast,stable..and many option with the theme..
Use a gingerbread ROM!
Only thin that gets me is the fact that Sims 3 and NOVA don't work.

Hey i agree toxic roms are great.
im running team toxic 7 rom with voodoo enabled overclocked and overstock. very fast worth it and i also battery life is beautiful.

I've tried trigger 3.2, trigger 3.3b2 and now I just flashed Project V.
Performance wise, I think trigger 3.3b2 with bullet kernel @1.42 was the best for me.
However, I'm still playing around with Project V with Bali 1.2 and so far, it's really good.
I do have some issues with wifi that I never experienced with trigger though.
What are you looking for in terms of customization? Because honestly, Project-V has got to be one of the most customizable ROMs available.
My best battery life came from trigger on overstock kernel. But gingerbread is just so awesome i dont think i can go back.

Try them all. No harm is done if you just want to flash away just make sure you follow the correct steps before switching to a different rom.

I use Simply Honey 3.9.1. So far very happy with it.
I have tried many roms and Project 5 is definitely the best Froyo rom. I have since moved to Miui. If you don't mind having no GPS, Wi-Fi calling and a little less battery life, then this is the best looking and feature rich rom available. Give it a shot.
In my opinion, Bionix v1.3.1 (most current Bionix), is hands down the best Gingerbread rom. I've tried a bunch of other roms, but I always go back to Bionix.
It may seem kinda jumpy at first, but just give it a day for everything to sink it. It's great.
Bionix isn't gingy.
I'm Running simply honey 3.9.1 with cmenards 1.42ghz bullet kernel.... posted some pics below... its the fastest, smoothest rom I've ever had. if you decide to up to gingerbread roms.... beware.... flashing bootloaders for them is scary unless you have a jig aka "download dongle". I built mine at radioshack for $1.19, some scotch tape, and an old car charger. more info on this if you sift through the stickies a bit. If you use the 1.42ghz kernel instead of the 1.2 the rom comes with, you can have access to the "smartass" governor (obviously SETCPU is necessary for these kernels)...... great for battery and awesome for raw speed
simply honey 3.9.1 for sure, a little bit trickier to flash then froyo roms but well worth it. and installing the bootloader is actually a lot easier now just make sure to follow instructions step by step
Ever think about a theme? The trigger theme for project v looks pretty damn good.
Vibrant
Rom: Project-V
Kernel: Bali X 1.2
Love it.

Oh no... not another "what's the best ROM" question...

This one is a little different though. I am on a MIUI ROM, and have been for many months. Next month the Galaxy II is coming out for t-mobile, and I will be upgrading. And that means my wife gets the vibrant. Which means this phone "just has to work". As much as I love MIUI and cyanogen, being at the tip of the spear means having to put up with some things that just don't work like they are supposed to. Like GPS and battery life to name two. Stock would be an option, but if I recall, stock sucked on battery life AND GPS, correct?
So, what is the best ROM nowadays for stability (including GPS) and battery life? It has been so long that I have had a froyo ROM on my phone that I really don't know who is at the top now.
Oh, and by "best ROM", I should have said "best ROM & kernel combination".
the Bionix ROMs are pretty stable for the most part (though they're not really supported on xda anymore). http://sourceforge.net/projects/bionix-v/files/
I suggest trying ZenDroid. It's one of the very few froyo roms still updated and supported. Has all the newest build.prop tweaks, gps works perfect for me, has great battery life, and it's as stable as they come.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079517
EDIT: Ah yes, forgot about the DMZ kernel. Thanks to Mdtolic below for bringing that up. I have to agree with him about the ZenDroid/DMZ kernel combo.
Sent from my ZenDroid using XDA Premium App
I've been on MIUI for a week or so now, and GPS has worked perfectly on several trips around the area. In fact, it's working better than when I was using a Froyo ROM. Battery life is still good as long as you do a reasonable undervolt and use Titanium Backup to freeze useless battery hogging software (Gallery, replaced with Quickpic, Maps if you don't use navigation, etc)
Still, if you want rock solid stable with great battery life, try Toxic8 with KB5 modem and Bali X 1.2 kernel. Once you set everything up for her along with a theme she likes, you'll never have to tweak it again.
Be warned though. As far as smoothness is concerned, nothing compares to MIUI. At least in my experience.
Jcc's toxic roms are awesome. Everything works as it should and he has a new rom(deranged 9) cookin now!

I have come to learn that "the best" ROM/Kernel combo for one phone, may not be the best combo for any other phone.
For me, ZenDroid is perfect. To get the best battery life I use the SuperDragonModz kernel. ZenDroid comes with Bali UC and I think that works great for most folks.
ZD has an AOSP theme too; in case your wife would prefer a "clean" Android look.
That Ultimate 2.2.1 rom is fairly awesome. It is smooth, fast and good looking. Works perfectly with the ffc mod. Has decent battery life and the GPS will connect in mere seconds (9 of 11 birds, 20 ft after about a minute or two). Keep in mind I did the hardware fix posted here. It is my top choice going back to froyo coming from a variety of gb roms.

[Q] Void #echo, SpeedMod K2-18 Update3, Phenomenal 2.1, N.E.A.K 1.2x or Siyah 2.6.4?

Hello everybody, I'm opening the thread just to read opinions from you all about the kernels that are currently available.
The one I've been using is void #echo, which in my humble opinion with the combination of a tweaked deadline scheduler and a lionheart governor provides great performance, battery life and minimum lag whatsoever.
I do understand that it depends on needs which shall be used, however, I would like to know which one to you guys works smoother and provides better performance / battery life.
I always aim for performance over battery life (I didn't buy a SGSII to get poor performance )
In terms of battery life, I can get it up to 22~23 hours on battery, using WCDMA only / HSPA+ during day and enabling airplane mode during night.
Fast Dormancy disabled and deep sleep working correctly (XXKL1).
I don't like the complexity of siyah and to be good on batt you have to tweak it more with UV and thing like that ,wish is not my style to make trying/errors on my brand new 600$phone !
I tried speed mod wish is very great actually with great overall perform
void echo is the one Im trying right now ! since 2 days its feel very strong and good on battery with good performance on games without getting the phone very hot
neak is good but its more a copy/past of the overall coders over wish is good in one sense but its a bit laggy in game with lucrative mod but defenatly one of my favorite kernel out there ! Im waiting for 1.3 to let simone correct some bugs
Siyah is the tweakers' heaven. You can fine tune every last bit of your phone.
I personally love void, it feels very fast and has good battery life.
I tried NEAK for a short time and it seemed fine but quite many report lag in games(using on demand governor seems to fix it though).
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm waiting for N.E.A.K 1.3x too

as one of the posts above said siyah is the tweakers heaven..haha trust me i never used it before as i thought it was to complicated. but once you have done your reading and read other peoples posts and what they do to get the best out of the kernel you have a winner...all the rest look good i am not saying anything bad but for me from now on any rom i use siyah is coming with me due to the fact it has so many options to it and so much i can play around with i am in heaven
hope that helps...oh and on a side note i have been tempted to upgrade to a different rom but the current base i am using and with the kernel i have and the settings that i am using the only time i will actually jump ship is if one there is a stable cm9 out there by the amazing team hacksung. Two if Gokhanmoral does a siyah kernel for cm9 which i think will be when kernel sources are made available and three cause i have already my voodoo app all configured with my poweramp player to get the best sound possible i would be foolish to make the step at this moment of time...
So my advice for battery speedmod if you are not into tweaking alot with voltages and clock frequencies and if you want the best of both worlds then siyah
siyah 2.6.4.

Great feedback bro, I tried Siyah in the past but honestly when I used it I didn't know there were parameters to tweak (didn't check the REF documentation LOL).
Do you get smoother behavior / better performance / higher benchmark scores tweaking the parameters? In quadrant I get around 4604 with void.echo.
as my "personal" opinion...
since i instaled V3RTR3MA.V.4.0 rom, i've been using void#echo
couldn't ask for more its fast and stable... nothing too complicated and i could get 8186 in the quadrant benchmark... a really great kernel...
void echo.By far best kernel for common user, who doesn't want to do all kind of tweaks&stuff.By default is great. If you are into a litle tweaking, you can OC and UV without any issues.
I used it since it was released. No issues at all, battery friendly, great performance.
Trully a KISS principle follower.
My personal advice to all, avoid all roms&kernels that are heavily customized and have alot of useless "tweakes" and scripts on them. The more things on it, more chances of breaking up.
Look for simple builds,as close as it can be to stock, eye candy is not performance.
Jkay makes great themes wich you can apply to the rom.

100% agree most of the battery better and greater speed for these kernels is actually unproven and just advertising bumf .
I have used the kernels listed in the topic and in each case stock kernel has benchmarked better using multiple tests .

I agree with your opinion, and that's the reason why I use only Sammy Stock ROMs
I've flashed a number of roms and kernels in the past few months since May, best combination for me is usually a near stock rom, plus a stable kernel like Speedmod, they just work without needing any tweaking apart from custom set up that's it.
I don't generally like the number of tweaks in some roms but each to their own.
I find stock fine and fluid and stable enough without much problems.
Yeah..i get 6500+ without rawr and oc to 1600.you forget one thing,ALL other kernels have tweaked I/O scheduler enabled. Knzo says very clear in his thread.it's a way to cheat, that's why this tweak is not default on his kernel.
About rom, look for odexed.tornado2 by brotuck is one of the best around(odexed, pretty much stock, only useless apps removed from it).combined with jkay theme and coid echo...my s2 flies

Thanks for the suggestion dude! I'll take a look to it! Beside the removal of stock apps, what tweaks are included to achieve that score?
Best kernel so far for me is hardcore's speedmod.
Fast, first time I broke the 6000 barrier on Antutu benchmark without overclock. And great battery life, one full day + charging only by the end of day two, with normal use.
Normal use for me is making phone calls, surfing web and playing games sometimes, not more than 20min per "session". Turning wifi and 3g off when phone on standby. And switching to airplane mode overnight.
And yes I tried other kernels....
