I have come into an odd situation being that I am coming from a blackberry and I am VERY use to being able to hit the Enter key in order to send a text message. The place where an Enter key would intuitively be, is replaced with a "Smiley Button". Is there any way to replace the Smiley button with an Enter key and then be able to hit Enter to send SMS messages?
I have looked into it before this question and come up with use the Handcent app, but I would rather use the stock SMS application or a variation of a keyboard download in order to get Enter to send SMS to work.
Thanks.
HTC IME
Look for HTC IME on google, it is the keyboard from htc phones, it's beautiful, you can modify many things, anddd you can use enter to send, you have to enable it under the keyboard settings. But.... you don't get the nify spell check that only comes with the moto keyboard.
From what I have found the HTC IME doesn't work on the Atrix sadly. Well at least for me....
But when I had it on my Galaxy S it was awesome!

anybody know how to type one? my email address has some in it and the only way i can do it at the moment it to close the phone so the soft keyboard comes up and find it in the menu then reopen it again, anybody know if its possible and if so where it can be found?
edit: oops i mean on mini pro
You're serious right?
Press the Sym/àü button on the bottom right... A screen will pop up with all possible other characters.
it does nothing on my phone, i press it and the cursor changes to the same one as when i press the blue button to get numbers, i have got slideit keyboard installed, could it be sometthing to do with that?
I had this issue. Either a: You turned off the option for it in the settings or b: there is a losse connection between the keyboard and motherboard (My problem was the latter). If this is the case, refer to your service centre for repair. (Or strip the phone apart, re-seat the ribbon and reassemble, which is what *I* did, but then again, I do know how to follow warrenty service guidelines so as not to void my warrenty...)
That sym key only works when you have the default input activated. Since you have SlideIt installed, you'll have to long-press on the text area, select 'Input method', choose 'Default', insert the underscore using the sym button, and then reactivate SlideIt. A little bit long winded but that's the only way when you're not using the default input all the time.
That is correct. No third party input application takes into account the sym/au button. I have given the debug log files aswell as the keyid (found in the layout files of the keyboard) of that button to the author of smartkeyboard pro. He has it on his to-do list. Hopefully he can whip up something to fix the problem.

guys, just a little problem:
I downloaded the latest version and, after enabling the keyboard settings menu - language and keyboard,
when I open a text message, and I try to change the input method, nothing shows, I have the ability to change keyboard
always appears the original, I tried to reboot to disable keybord smart, to re-enable it, but nothing,
When I click on "integration method" returns to the screen with the original keyboard, not smart .. Why?
something wrong? well, I looked around, and I have not found anyone with my problem ..
tips?
hello, I have resolved, I was wrong in practice once you've enabled the keyboard settings menu, open a new sms, and hold on "type text here" so you can choose the input method!
Ha just found this thanks my boss has a wildfire and didn't like the standard keyboard and me having a Galaxy S I thought oh thats easy lets get him a new one.
I had the same problem I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to change the default keyboard glad you figured it out I was there for ages.
Maybe its just you and me
Are there any tweaks or mods out there that will put the "Enter" key back for SMS in GB?
From what I've read, the key in question changes based upon the app and type of field you are typing in. For example, typing this post, I have the enter key, but in SMS it's an emoticon key...
I realize that I could install a keyboard or SMS app from a third party to solve the problem, but I really like the stock apps with the exception of this one minor annoyance.
I imagine that this could be fixed with a zip file installed via cwm. Anyone know of one?
Not quite sure how to explain this. But on my bb I could go into the dictionary and add my own words. For example, if I typed na(space) it would automatically come up "sorry not available". Does anyone know.how to do this on an android phone? I tried to find an option on my Samsung fascinate and droid charge, no luck.

Some keyboards allow you to do acronyms like Slide It I think.
Smart Keyboard Pro allows you to do this.

You can add them as you go on swype.
You can add them as you go with the stock keyboard too. As soon as you start typing a down arrow appears. Hit that and at the bottom there is a button that says add word. Or you can you can through the settings menu, language and keyboard, touch input then to personal dictionary.
You guys are misunderstanding... Basically he wants to add shortcuts... For example typing abc I can make it type out "my name is cares"
As the title says.
Scenario: A text message comes in, I pull down the menu and hit the name of the sender, and it takes me into the default messaging app to read my text. But as well as doing this, it automatically opens my keyboard ready to type a reply.
Have I missed something here??? I'm using Perfect Keyboard Pro, and wish to continue to do so.
It only does this on a new message, if I open a read message the keyboard wont open unless i press the reply button.
I hope its just a wee setting i've stoopidly missed, but any help is appreciated
AFAIK, this is the standard behaviour. When you receive a new sms, and go to read it, the keyboard pops out (to type the reply). When you go to see received sms, the keyboard pops out only if you tap on the text box at the bottom.
This for any keyboard you'd use.
Damn... wish there was a way to turn that off. .. och well...
