[Q] Which Firmware is most preferred / Phone Service - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys new around here and have a few questions.
I've flashed my phone and rooted it successfully with xrecovery on it.
I've used a few firmwares -
Cyanogen6.1.3_v01 (CM-updated)
FreeX10 Froyo 2.2.1 ROM
(I had to re flashed because my contacts are backed up on the stocked b&r for Xperia)
Anyways wondering which Firmware you guys would recommended or suggest for me. What stands out more or has more stability than the other?
Also I have at&t unfortunately and its an At&t Xperia X10a , but wondering do i need to configure anything else for cellphone company meanign the network or anything? I mean i can text and surf the web fine and make calls when I place the firmware CYan or Free.
Thanks if you can help or not help aha

Why don't you use Google to sync your contacts.. then you can use whichever rom u want and sync them from gmail

that or use an app like "my backup root" to backup your contacts, sms's, calendar, etc.
the stock contacts tool can export to a .pim file which can be imported into any contacts tool on any rom too, just so you know

I knew how to sync, i didn't know at the time aha. Its fine with contacts im good with it no trouble. back to the main question of which firmware aka rom is of good use?

theyre both stable.
however if im correct. cyno doesnt have cam or camcorder.
and freex10 has cam and u can use videocam illusion for camcorder
i use beta3.
and refuse to use beta4 as it wasnt as good as beta3 for me.
so its really up to you which is best for you.
everyone has their preferences.
their both stable enough for everyday use.

Best/Secure Method to Back Up Txt/SMS?

Greetz Gentleman...
droid rookie here.. learning a lot from this forum..
rocking XTRSense on my dinasaur of an android phohne, HTC Eris...
even with XTR its mad, mad sloooOOW..
Whats the best way to back up text messages?
I googled and saw there are several apps available for this..
1. what is the BEST and MOST secure way of backing up my text msgs?
i.e. sms backup requires you input your gmail L/P into the app... how do i know its not some russian commie that now has access to all my email/gmail accounts?
what do you guys use?
2. what does the creator of XTRSense RoM use to back up his txts?
let me know what you have for me gents!!
appreciate it!!
oNe
p.s. can ANYONE tell me why the FLIP android does not have multi-msg delete? man that was a sweet thang on the original moto razr's!!
I can't speak for zach but I use my backup root to backup and restore sms and mms messages as well as call logs.
Sent using my 666th Inc from remote regions of hell

crap, I guess I should have asked this as well..
lets say I lose my Eris, and have no way of getting another one..
am I up sh*tz creek then? (using ur method)
In other words is there a backup method to NOT only back up my sms/mms but also make it where they are accessible outside of the Droid Eris?
appreciate it main!
1. also am I the only one concerned with the gmail back up methods that require you to enter your google account credentials into an app in order to "back up". Sure they may mean no harm, but still....you neva know..
thoughts?
2. which of the gmail backup method apps have you used, and what was ur experience?
oNe
p.s. how's ur eris running? Mines a dinasaur using XTRSense... and here's the thing.. I have not contacts stored.. NOT a single app downloaded..shoot I don't even have a gmail account so I couldn't download apps even if I wanted to..
but in other words I am running my Eris BAREBONE STOCK..
less then 35 pictures,
0 contacts saved
0 apps installed
0 email accounts loaded
sh*T is mad slow.. part of the reason I don't do anything on it(i.e. web browsing, apps, contacts) is that its so slow I HATE IT..
don't get me wrong.. I've had it for about a year now... and the ORIGINAL vzw stock was STUPID DONKEY SLOW.. made me wanna shoot myself.. after a month or 2 of that.. I rooted and after a few diff rom's stuck with XTR as a stable and FAST rom..
but yeah, anways was jus curious as I thought I was like the only person in the world still using the ERIS....
SMSBackup+ uses X0Auth to connect to your Google account, so it never stores your password. You authorize the app to access your Gmail account from a web page one-time and then the app uses that permission from that point forward. If your phone is stolen, you can change your Google account password and that will lock the account from the phone.
You can also go to your Google account dashboard (which I believe is just https://www.google.com/dashboard ), hit the link that says "websites authorized to access the account", and de-authorize SMSBackup+ from there.
Any apps that backup SMS to the SD card are obviously not a great idea if the phone is lost or stolen.
There is always an app like MyBackupPro, which I believe that can be set to backup to an online account, encrypted.

CM7 and Exporting to sim contacts?

hi, i have an atrix, im using a rom based on CM7! its cool, many options there! the most important thing missing is to export contacts to SIM CARD!! why it is omitted ? in te original motorola rom this option is present!! im always wondering why we cant exoprt our contacts ( without using an application) to ou sim cards even its a basic option in every phone!
can we added this stuff manually? i really dont wana change cm7, so coool!
thks a lot and sorry a lotttttttt
no one??!!!! :-(-:
What about this

or this

or this

?
Why would you want to back it up onto a device that if it fails you lose the contacts perminantly? CM7 by default backs up all contacts to your Google account, therefore making it that you can then get another phone, toss in your Google creds and your contacts are automatically downloaded, no need to be concerned about copying them from a SIM and making sure they were imported properly. If you must have your contacts on your SIM, try one of the three apps maajstor recommended.

google account? means internet? means not 100% available! exporting to sim card is an elementary task; and you will say if the sim goes wrong? or damaged? lost? yes, thats right, but at least no need to connect to import them, its a very basic function to export contacts to sim card, even the dinosaur nokia 3310 have this stuff! well, never mind, thanks for yr reply a appreciate a lot !

Restoring samsung galaxy SII i9100

I have rooted my samsung galaxy SII i9100 and installed some apps.
I deleted some services not sure which ones though.
Mobile phone works fine. Except for some games which always crash and annoying adverts + some slow downs.
Is there a way to reset/restore/ copy over all default services etc.?
Thank you. Let me know if you need more info.
Appreciate fast answers will be on the lookout for this topic.
Backup with Ti (app/app settings, call log, sms), backup contacts/calendar (if you use it) to Google, get stock rom from Samfirmware, flash with Odin, re-root phone, restore apps/app settings (not system apps/settings), call logs/sms/calendar/contacts/etc.
Could you please assist me more expansive clearly-noob proof?
I have titanium backup yes. How do I backup with it? I dont have sms to save no call logs, app/settings.. mmm not really I think? only use facebook app and whatsapp so far so I guess its not needed to back up app settings.
Don't use calander aswell. Contacts can be backed up in the contact section to an external file if im right.. so I can do that
I would love to backup All my apps though! and the location in the GUI if possible?!
Which firmware would I need from Samfirmware. I dont wanna end up with a broken phone! GT-I9100 android 4.1.2 basband i9100XXLS8 kernel 3.031-siyah s-2- v.60b5
I live in Netherlands.
How can I save all the installed apps? I mean i got maybe like 20 gb of apps I cant back them up actually on the phone? I would need to do this to my external harddrive?
Would this remove all the annoying ads I get? like my phone always makes bleeps and then I see in the upper corner an icon I expand it and look and it says something like TRY NOW FREE THIS THAT GAMES BLA BLA. and I have to clear the messages again and again like 5 messages a day! Ad blockers dont work for me. Is this because of the games I installed?
How would backing up with Ti getting stock firmware and reflashing get my UNINSTALLED services back? are the services located in the firmware? sorry but phones dont make alotta sense to me why cant it be drag and drop.
Please talk to me step for step like a child :S im scared i Will lose something if not.

[Q] Uninstalled stock messaging app - how to restore SMS functionality?

I know there are quite a few similar threads, but since they are all fairly device specific, I though I'd try my luck with a new one.
I have a rooted LG Optimus L1 ii, running the stock 4.1 ROM that came with it, from which I uninstalled the stock messaging app after installing Hangouts. As you might have guessed I was unaware that the stock messaging app contains the basic messaging capabilities and all other apps rely on this, so now I'm trying to somehow regain the ability to send and receive SMS.
I have tried installing Handcent, GoSMS, and an app called "Android 4.1 JB Messaging SMS", which claims to be the stock messaging app for JellyBean, all of it to no avail.
Therefore my question is, on a very fundamental level, what are the parts of the Android OS that are required for SMS and that I evidently destroyed? Can I get "generic" stock versions of the necessary apks or do they have to be specific to my phone model?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

1) It's not easy to decrypt stock LG firmware for that. Would be easier to download a stock based rom and grab it from there.
2) It's not that simple, you have to set permissions for system apps as well.
To OP: Go SMS should work fine. You just need to go into the advance settings and make sure it's checked off to be your standalone messaging system and there is an option to add your own MMS settings, which should be all you need.
Many other texting apps have custom settings for MMS options too. Hello SMS, Go SMS, ChompSMS, Handcent, Textra, Slide Messaging, and Evolve SMS all do if I remember right.
Edit: Sorry, can't read. I thought you were having MMS issues, not SMS. But yea, that's odd. You don't normally need the stock Messaging app anymore to send SMS.
You might have to reinstall your entire OS. Gotta make sure you know what system version you are on as they are slight differences between the carriers and regions the phone was sold from.

Pray tell how you would download the firmware and pull the messaging app from it? It helps to know what that entails before you suggest it. And the OP mentioned he did not delete it till after he installed Hangouts, which is not TOTALLY crazy. Hindsight 20/20, freezing it would have been better, but we're all learning. I typically uninstall the stock messaging app on any phone that I've used and have never had an issue like this.
Same problem Need help

I ended up going with the first suggestion in this thread and re-installed the original firmware. Slightly annoying, but there was no way around it with other apps and certainly trying to extract just the messaging app out of the stock ROM is more complicated and uncertain than this.
