This is for X10 mini, but partially valid for mini pro as well.

Is a great video guide for service people. Heaps of fun to pull this impressive little thing to bits - just be careful to release the ribbon cable clamps before pulling out the cables...

X10 mini E10i ROOT,ROMS,HACKS

As there's no separate device page for our mini X10's, lets discuss it here instead.
Obviously X10i and E10i hardware is totally different and thus we can't use roms or anything from the "bigger" phone.
For now the Android 1.6 is almost usable on it, but I frankly hate the sony customizations and totally unusable text-entry and phone-dialer apps ..
A clean 1.6/2.1 ROM with HTC Sense would make me much happier.
But for now at least I'd like to solve the fonts problem, i.e. after getting phone rooted, installing custom fonts should be easy.
Anyone done that so far?
Please share your thoughts.

The method is probably similar , but we do need specific E10i rom files, so its not carbon-copy.

There is two ways of buying a phone
1. By the looks
2. By the insides
If you want both, the easiest is to take the looks and buy what you like to look at, and then make the insides as you want afterwards.
When android gives us the posiblity (after root access to bootloader level) to make an X10 look like an HTC on the inside, why would anyone ever buy an HTC phone?

i think rooting mini is little bit complicated because it needs removing battery

You can hard-reset the E10i (mini) by pressing power button while holding the "home" button (middle one)
So thats not a problem.

It's quite easy to replace the keyboard and phone dialer on the E10i without rooting the phone. I would love to root my E10i as well but I would also like to keep the text input. I find the T9 style text input to be perfect on this phone because of the small size. I downloaded a bigger keyboard from the market to try out but I quickly switched back. T9 was just much better suited for this phone. I also downloaded a new dialer but it wasn't built for the small screen so it didn't look good.
Btw, what's this font problem you speak of?
Root need for x10 mini
any idea when rooting for X10 mini? Did developers working on that... eagerly waiting to root this device.
Well that's the big question in'it, are any devs even workin on root for the E10i, eh?

True, you can replace keyboard, dialer and launcher.
I am using custom HTC-type keyboard (smart keyboard), and launcher (Zeam) that looks like a normal android, not "one widget per screen" type.
For emails I use K-9, and WiFi Manager to auto-setup wifi connections.
Fancy Widget for main screen weather and alarm access.
So far the problems I have encountered :
1. bluetooth connection to car radio is broken (calls can be made, but sound quality is terrible with noise) -- had same problem with HTC Hero on Android 1.5, solved by installing Android 2.1
2. WiFi won't stay up over 1 hour, after 60min it always disconnects, so SIP phone has problems getting calls in -- was also the same on HTC Hero, again, solved by 2.1 upgrade
3. I really miss the HTC Contact list and Dialer, built in one is useless, even the android standard one would be much better, but can't be installed
4. AirVoice can't be used without root (call recording app, very useful)
5. Overall response times could be better with optimized kernel, battery life is far from perfect
Good evening, this is my first post, so let me say this forum is a great source of knowledge and hope for every smartphone owner.
Anyway, i own a SE X10 Mini and i'd like to see a separate section for this phone (and for X10 mini pro) like there is a separate section for htc hd mini or htc wildfire (that seems to be desire mini). Is it possible? This way people will be able to post in the appropriate place. Thanks Mods.
Then, could any dev find a way to root our X10 mini and make us as happy as bigger X10 owners? Please help us.

Yes, I agree with you , hope the MODS here listen to the request of x10 mini users to have a seperate section ? Not sure how to request the MODS about this ?

How to crack the bootloader?

Does anyone has any idea what does this means? and what does the procedure involves? any simple tutorial?
so man what is bootloader??????????
here is what i found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619153
still not clear need clear idea
only thing i know about our bootloader is that it cannot be cracked(a secured type) if somebody or someone is willing to mess their mini or mini pro on cracking the bootloader let the lord have praise on him/her

The thing is that SE's bootloader is not like htc's, where you can interact with it somehow with adb and fastboot and stuff, SE's doesn't even have a normal recovery going around, so we can't replace it, since we don't know how it works. At least that is the conclusion i came to (sorry for assuming **** and everything, if someone knows something, please, wikileak us)

so how come x10 got 2.2 custom rom?
well the big x10's android stucture is similar to that of an HTC mobile larger screen similar hardware features etc so they improted the work of HTC mobile to x10 in trial and error method

Simply, the answer is xRecovery... Even Mini/pro is capable of custom ROMs now. But because the bootloader is still uncracked, we can only replace the system, not kernel and drivers.
for more info - xRecovery thread:

so what are the chances of mini getting custom 2.2 or 2.3

We just need someone who'd port the 2.2 or 2.3 .. It's not an easy work though
Look we can start we making our port from models which share the same processor!!! For example htc legend!!! what do you say people??? Are you with me???
First step set our kitchen right???

;-) We have kitchens
yup i am also ready to work for this just need some basic help
we need to do it on our own since SE abandoned the sinking ship...
Just smash your device to the ground ceiling or wall just what you prefer and there you go your bootloader is cracked
You should try it ;-)

Thats a great idea.........If you got enough money to buy another Smart Phone....
for me i would rather put it in a hydraulic press and crush it
I like my phone, so i would not even hurt it... Better way is to crack the bootloader.
And if it cannot be cracked, at least we can try to port some useful things from 2.2 and make ourself the dualtouch.
SE software is anyhow of no use. It´s SE hardware, Android and 3rd party software, that makes this phone the good choice.
No more updates from SE needed and for me even not wanted.
You don't seem to understand, we can't get dual touch without cracking the bootloader!! We need to crack it to change the drivers, since the ones that are installed now do not implement dual touch support. As it is now, either we crack the thing, or we wait for the se update, there are no alternatives... Well, maybe find away to change kernels without having to break the bootloader but hell, I don't know...
Sent from my E10i using XDA App
meh replacing kernel without cracking bootloader...
that would be my only wish...
but for sure i never comes true coz bootloader needs to get cracked
i dont know this for sure
but i think its a kind of the iphone chain of trust
the bootloader checks the kernel if its original
if not i wont go any further
so we need to break this chain in the begin by cracking the bootloader so it wont check
i dont know this for sure but i think it works like that

Is there a guide on how to replace the screen?

To cut a long story short I might need to replace the lcd and/or digitiser on an x10 mini....
I only managed to find one tutorial on how to disassemble the handset and it seemed to advise against messing with the screen set up, I just wondered whether anyone had replaced the screen or knows where I can find some information on doing so??
Thanks.
Just bumping this thread, I need to replace the wifes digitizer.
Has anyone found a guide yet?
I've found a few for the mini pro but nothing for the mini.
Nobody??

Touchscreen no more working after de-assemblage and re-assemblage

Hello xda guys!
Like a dumb i decided to change the front cover of my sony x10 mini, so, i decided to open it and de-assembly my phone.
It was all so easy, in few time and simply i got all the parts of my phone not mounted.
So i began to re-assembly every pieces and all looks fine, but, when i turned on my phone, after all the boot image i saw the sliding unlock command was not working good
The touch-sensor was not sensing my touch properly.
So i decided to de-assembly it again e re-assembly.
After this the phone was no more sensible at touch!!!!!
What did i brake?
What did i damaged?
Thanks for helps in advance.
Hi, As I saw on this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpCb0oxd_3c), there are lots of wires in this device.
Didn't you forgot to plug in one of them ? Or did you damage any integrated circuits ? Must be one of these if it's a hardware problem. It can be a firmware problem too but it's kinda obvious it isn't seeing the facts.
Anyway, i guess you should go back to SE's 2.1 rom and send it back to the customer service, i fear that it would be even more damaging to open it back again :s
http://youtu.be/iyT618lVxUs
My phone is this.
Well, now, my phone is definitely a test one (warranty no more valid), so i can do tests.
I guess i damaged the circuit or the sensor abled to sense touch, just because, all the other function looks working good.
I'm not sure on a thing: should i resolve just changing the motherboard or the display?
Ah yes, I misread you're on mini, not mini pro. Well, displays are solid componants. Unless the ribbon cable is damaged. I see no point in changing it. It's easier to damage a motherboard.(did that on my pc...)
These videos are awesome but i'll never try that myself. Too afraid of loosing my phone !
Yes! This should be the way! Thanks for the precious hints!
Definitely resolved!!!
Just changed the frontal cover!!
Now my phone works like a new one!!!!
I just checked out the official SONY ERICSSON X10 MINI repair manual on a wiki homepage. If someone need the link just ask me through a email!

Xperia P disassembly

Hey everyone, i have accidently dropped my Xperia P some time ago and the screen cracked ....
Today i am buying a Xperia P phone with a broken motherboard so i will use the display from that Xperia to replace it with mine.
Has anyone before opened/disassembled a Xperia P, is it hard and are there any pic or video tutorials?
I am not afraid to open it by myself but i want to inform myself first, i am also doing PC, PS3 and laptop disassemblys and repairs (not working but i know it) so i think that it won't cause me too much problems opening a modern smartphone?
I've looked a few videos and pictures of how to open a Xperia S so i think it has not that much differences ....
