[Q] IPhone OS - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi...
As you see, it is possible to flash the HD2 with Android, Bada and WP7.. but is it also possible to flash the IPhone Os on the HD2? This would be great!
mfg
kvn

No and for 99,99 % it won't be possible.

theres already a thread for this... And is it possible... It depends how you ask it.... THe HD2 is powerful enough to run it but since iOS is a closed operating system theres no real way of creating drivers and such for it.. Seeing as its only ment to run on the Iphone/iPod and iTouch there all very similar to each other while the HD2 is not

hmm if the hd2 is powerfull enough... there must be any way to flash the iOS =). I belive in the chine hackers =)..
hakuchi18v what do you think is the best OS for the hd2?

Android and WP7 both work fine...
Android has a better support base with the HD2 since everything works right after it is installed while WP7 works but you have to activate it to use the live services unless you side load everything and at some point that becomes a nuisance..
I switch between WP7 and Android... To me android has the benefit of the amount of apps that are available and they have more quality and unique apps compared to WP7 panoramic apps that gets boring real quick.. Same layout just different name and content...
If iOS was running on the HD2 ill use it as long as you can use all the normal functions like on an iPhone.. Probably even use it as the preferred OS on it
But it won't and for now ill keep switching between android and wp7

how is it possible to aktivate ph7 on the hd2? Oo... i had it on my hd2 but i cant use the appstore... so switched back to android....
Ok but witch android rom do u use?

You need to get an activation key from Microsoft once its activated you have all the live services including the market available to you....
as for the Android rom I'm using the gingerbread asop... Its a vanilla rom.. Without all the crapware some of the other ones have...

and how can i get an activation code?? And can i use them with the cracked wp7 version? Oo...
Can you give me a link to the rom u use?

To get the activation code you have to call Microsoft and tell them that you bought and HTC windows Phone and that its asking for an activation key every time you try to sign into Windows Live.... Some are saying that they're asking for an IMEI number and that they give them their HD2's and they give them the Activation Key while others say they arent giving them... SO it really depends on the person your talking to. but if at first you don't succeed try try again and try some more.. at some point some body will be more then willing

DFT

CWM vs DFT
CWM is a recovery tool that needs to be flashed using MAGLDR it gives you recovery options like in a real Android phone
While DFT is simply flashing it without having a Recovery option

You know the Androids big Problem? I heard a lot about the weak security.
I dont know how much safety WP or Linux can provide, but Android seems to be very easy to hack and run spyware and something on it.
Yeah at the moment we can laugh about it, but in a few years we will cry, it won't be funny when a virus sents 1000 sms to your contacts and you have to pay it...

wow y would u even want to run windows mobile... I had a tmobile wing once - - - dont get me started on that phone lol.
lol im sry but even if i knew how i wouldnt tell ya cause its stupid idea.
why would you want windows mobile on your phone, well for decent media play back i.e films that you don't need to convert before you put on the phone, I've got both a android and windows phone, and personally I find the experience better on android, but converting films is a drag.
I don't see why you want to downgrade your phone
knowledge is power
I don't think this is such a bad idea actually it's kind of good for us having someone asking this...IS NOT ABOUT DOWNGRADING your beloved hero it's about the challenge it would be to do it and the KNOWLEDGE we would get by doing so...
Currently a lot of our great developers at XDA are focused on bringing android to our WM phones and they have done a great job so far using only reverse engineering methods, patience and a certainly huge amount of cups of coffee...so how about seeing things from a different angle? just imagine the possibilities if we can make WM work in an originally Android designed phone ,i bet you if someone dares to do it,not only the android porting project will benefit from this but several other open source mobile platforms that are already here[Maemo] and others to come [MeeGo], They all have one purpose bringing the end user a better and richer mobile experience which is the same reason i believe this forum was created for so...
Why not giving it a try?
up
up up up
sorry
android is a open source OS
windows mobile is not
so you can change android kernel to run on other device
windows mobile nope
I love android for this
I hate windows mobile for this
with a boot loader : you cant
and i know you don't want windows mobile on your brilliant android phone
hahaha
One time I saw a thread in the Rhodium forums where they were trying to find evidence of an Android user trying to port Windows Mobile to their phone. I didn't think it would ever happen...
Hmmm a challenge
Sounds like a great challenge, something to really upset the a few people who wander around bragging about they're "completed" operating systems (yeah right, 15 years as an IT Consultant and I've yet to hear Microsoft claim to complete anything).
Android is a PITA and not as flexible as I was told it would be - nowhere near as flexible as linux was meant to be - I wonder if its possible to go the rest of the way and compile a linux for our android phones that runs natively. Then we can really put windows phones to shame.

Well, of course it's possible, seeing how it's already been done. I don't know about your phone, but my CDMA Hero is most definitely running Linux natively.
So it's already running on a Linux kernel with a reasonable command line environment. It might be useful to compile a more complete set of GNU utilities for it.
Android is, in basic terms, just the GUI that's running on top of Linux. There are plenty of other GUIs designed for small devices with limited resources. Porting one of them over to run on top of the existing Linux environment shouldn't be too terribly tough.
The real trick, I would guess, would be getting all the hardware bits to work. Writing apps that can access the phone radio, gps, audio, etc.... All of those things are currently accessed through APIs that Android provides. If you remove Android, and those APIs, then there's a great deal of work to be done to make those things functional again.
So if you just want a handheld Linux box, that's easy. If you want all of the hardware features to work, and to still be able to use it as a phone, just with Android stripped out, then you've got a LOT of work ahead.

well am with original poster on this I for one would love and prefer to see Winmo on my hero.... I find android such a dam pain.... I have both winmo(on my kaiser) and android... But only use droid for a toy and playing games. where as I much prefer my winmo for Work and navigation... At least with Winmo theres no reliance on flippin data, Which isa pain in the butt with droid..
So come on you tech Geeks show us what you are made of...Port Winmo to hero... let us have the choice...
WM On Hero.......
say what you will about Android Vs WM but I believe WM is just perfect for me. If hero could support WM then please someone anyone help me get it on mine. I loved the convenience of WM. On my Blackstone Sync was not a problem. I get all my emails and my contacts in the same place. With Android I have to sync via G-Mail. For being open source this is a huge price for me to pay. Now I have to change my email address and redirect all my clients to G-mail so I get all my mail.

Check the activity of the Android forums compared to this one. That should answer your question. Currently Android requires some parts of WinMo to work, but I use a very small version of WinMo, ChuckyDroid ROM.
Android development is thriving. WinMo 6.x development is dead. In many ways, Android runs better than WinMo on the HD2.
winmo? people still use that junker? this thing shoulda ran android from the start...
Absolutely, go for it. There is no way you can harm/brick your phone because android is only running off the microSD. Download a few different builds and try them out. The worst that can happen is ending back up in windows mobile. I would reccoment trying shubCraft.
Well, I guess it depends on the compatibility issues of the software you use. In my case, right now, I cannot leave WinMo as of yet because of that.

No way for me
I've had the Nexus One for the last 5 months and Android running on the Hd2 is like a car without oil in the engine: VERY ROUGH
For someone who hasn't had a Nexus One yet then yeah the Android port will be fine for you and you wont know the difference but for me I can DEF feel it and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
Lag + not everything works = I'd rather have WinMo 6.5 for the rest of the Hd2's life unless the can start making the Android versions smoother/work better.

Yes BUT not yet from reading through the amount of postyers having issues with using Android on the HD2 at present is far too much,i would wait until all the problems have been rectified and everything is 100% before i go with Android.

i've got the same doubts. well and of course, i'm originally from austria so i'm wondering if there are any language packs or something like that available for the android roms. of course, i can deal with the english roms, but if i have the posibility i'd take the german rom or whatever.

I sold my Nexus One in order to buy an Hd2 for cheap off of craigslist knowing that I might never even run Android on it. I wanted to give Windows Mobile a chance and learn the basics before trying to port Android. Turns out it was the best decision I could have made since I actually prefer Windows Mobile more than Android!
People complaining about a phone they have already purchased need to get a life and better purchasing skills
I don't understand all this hype about Android. From what I have seen it's all over-hyped on the HD2. I went to the Android section expecting to be blown away by the amazing detail, features and screens of Android. Instead i've been underwhelmed and put off of Android. The Interface looks more like a step backwards about 10 years.
Where is the holy grail of Android for HD2 that is going to make us all want to switch to Android from WinMo?
Ok - I get it that for geeks Android might be the way forward as it's all open source and available to tinker with - but for people who just want a phone that works - WinMo 6.5x runs rings around Android. God help us when WinMo 7 arrives on the scene.
I understand that this may start a flaming session - but my mind is open to be converted - point the way.....show me the eye candy...
what making android not work 100% on htc hd2?

Android on Mozart

Wow, just wait for genius chef if they can make this device capable of running android. Not sure how can we invite them to start working on this.
Can we all make a combined request to great chefs of Android as they made it possible for HD2 so nothing is impossible for them.
I have to ask: why would we possibly want Android when we have WP7? Surely we would all have bought Nexus S' if we wanted Android :S
Wrong answer.
This is the "Because we can" argument. It's a waste of time. I've been following Android on the HTC diamond and It's not practical purely down to the power management. It just sucks the battery down to nothing after 20 minutes.

...well, I guess this is reason enough to go buying a WP7 phone and trolling in a forum on how great it would be to have Android on the WP7.
Just a thought: it might seem stupid to you and the answer might even be obvious to everyone but me, but why didn't you buy an Android phone to start with?
- You'd then have an Android device right now
- Would not lose your warranty when you use Android (as you most likely will on WP7 as it will require unlocking or flashing)
- Would not be limited by Microsoft in any way
So maybe I'm missing some point here, but feel free to enlighten me

Well, I have no doubt on your opinion, in fact most of the people would have same opinion, Don't you think its a very simple thing that one can't miss, if we want android then go and buy android,
but according to me there are two ways to live life, one simplest way and second to go beyond limit and do something different.
if we buy android then there is near to impossible to enjoy windows 7 but if we have wp7 then there is possibility to enjoy android and that's in bl** single device wow. no need to have two sim two phone to enjoy life.
After all that's my desire that One day Chef will come and listen to us.

I think he means like MAGLDR on Mozart = DUAL BOOT Android and WP7. Or quadruple boot WM6, WM7, Ubuntu, Android as I am doing here on my HD2 which works on LIVE and Marketplace ACTIVE as a HD7.
Android on mozart would be interesting. Reasonably easy to do once bit more work with ansar's work and his spl upgrade/hack maybe (global branding removal) + htc rom image editor etc and debug. It will happen.
Older phones as mentioned in this thread+droid=sux. HD2+Android (espeially Magldr+Darkstone SUPER-NAND RAM-build on Nand=AMAZING).
But yes- it is EASY to get around LIVE activation: read HD2 threads: and no Magldr 1.12 loads a simulacrum SPL for WP7 from nand yaffs which straps WP7 partitions so there is no real way that Microsoft can lock your phone down. Its LIVE!

you are wrong..... Microsoft will know which phone been modified from HD2 by using hardware id..... muahahaha.... you are using illegal OS....
Afaik Mozart is the only handset with a 1ghz+ CPU and a Xenon flash that is "potentially" capable of running android, that fact alone makes it worth modding on imo. Would be fun to see if someone got it working, but right now I'm hoping the motoroi 2 will come out soon =)
Edit: And about legality - many countries (like norway) have laws that forbid EULAs that restrict using other software on your hardware, effectively nullifying that concern
im looking for experiment like this, run android on mozart or any wp7 phone.
Would be great, but i think there isn't a big community for Mozart 7, and special for Android on Mozart
can someone explain me how easy would it be done if this tool from DFT is now out?

your live id is stored in the phones registry
If you are running androind there is no access to that
How could microsoft ban you, magic?
Running androind i would have thought it's pretty clear you wont have access to live functions

Running custom roms are 'fun' and it's why these forums exist

[Q] droid instead of wm7

Hi guys
Please help is there a droid os to load on my Mozart ?
I feel wm7 is not user friendly
I am new to windows and feel it is less superior ,therefore I'd like to get a new os

You have to buy the phone with the OS you want... There is no Android available to HTC Mozart and i don't believe it will be available soon or ever
I dont understand people. Buy the HTC Desire if you want Android. Its basically the same phone.
I actually traded my Desire HD for my new Mozart and feel it's more superior as a phone. For all my other Android needs, I do that on my tablet, where it should be.
Hi
I didn't buy this phone got on contract, my friends have the HD and their apps are excellent.
1.Where can i find?buy this new os?
2. what do you suggest as an os for it?

t's just you not knowing how to use the phone / which apps to buy. If you asked, we might help you, however noone is gonna help you screwing the phone with Android.
You cannot change the OS on the phone. The one present is the most suited anyway
the apps are as follows that i would like to install
whatsapp _what do you suggest i do
mxit
the phone says for every thing id like to download
cannot download this file
WP does not support.jad files
can i perhaps install java?
You cannot install java/jar/jad (they're the same thing) on WP7. You can only install apps from the Marketplace or if you have unlocked phone you can deploy apps from your PC. (xap files)
just passing by. i wouldnt swap my mozart for an iphone or an samsung galaxy s2 fyi. i dont like lag. i like smooth and buttery. i kid not.
but no. you cant load android on it. get used to it and youll love it. especially mango

I don't see what you expect either...Windows Phone 8 is new and runs on the NT kernal, not CE as all of its predecessors have. You may have also noticed more and more devices have their batteries non-removal and there is no micro SD card for a few devices and there are others like the Samsung Ativ S that has a removal battery and a micro SD slot that guess what; Samsung isn't selling in the United States. Windows Phone platform is what it is; and then there are the iPhones and Android devices and if that's your cup of tea; terrific, there's room for all. I don't care about the marketplaces, what I care about is what many of us in the Windows Mobile universe enjoyed before and that is flash conventionally...download/sideload apps conventionally and stop with locking these devices down every way which way. One of the things I like about the Blackberry of old is its simplicity - a phone, SMS, E-Mail, a web browser and you know what...it's enough. There's a platform for every taste. Choice is yours dude!

yes youre there are many of us out there and we all cant have the same taste
I love the simplicity of the user Interface in the Windows phones.. and thats the main reason
I personally would like to stick with the Windows phones.. But then theres the feeling that somethings missing, ITS built so well that theres no room for improwements in the basic functions
But i would like to have flash custom webbrowser Google intgrated for example
But maybe well se that in future updates

My Titan I (Eternity) - Windows Phone 7.8 is my "work" phone and to have it HSPL is like every phone I've had before...the common denominator is simplicity. But...of late Microsoft and carriers have done their level best to make the experience hard which frankly lacks common sense. The bottom line requires "all of us" not everybody pursuing an engineer/rocket science degree, not like a lot of folks are in the rocket business to start with now that robots go up in space now.
