basically I have an email.apk that is used on the tab that I want to load and use on my phone. What is the best way to do that. This is something I have not done yet so detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated. Or atleast point me to a thread that has detailed instructions. I here I can ADB push which I have never done. I also have heard I can install the .apk to my phone and use a application like file manager to open and load it to my phone?? does that make sense?? IDK. any instructions would be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!
Get the paid version of Root Explorer.
Copy the Email.apk to you phone. Internal or External sd is fine.
Launch Root Explorer. Open the System folder, then the App folder, find your current Email.apk and longpress on it to move it to your External sd as a backup.
Navigate to your new Email.apk. Longpress o. It and move it into System/App folder.
Longpress on it, select Permissions, and leave read and write only checked on the first row, and only read on the other 2 rows.

Just try the SGS tools app. It gives you the option to upgrade your stock email app to the tab's email app. Just another method.

awesome!! thanks!! Do I have to use root explorer or can I use something else like super manager??
I honestly don't know. I figured Root Explorer was one of those apps where it's worth it to buy for all its usefulness.
It probably can't hurt to try. As long as another app can move files to and from the system/app folder and change the permissions, it should work.

So I've been looking for a way to get the stock apps for calculator, calender, and alarm clock back onto my vibrant which is now running the vibrant6 rom from eugene...
So far I've seen suggested that we tear apart anomalous's deodexed rom and push the files through adb but I have a horrible 3g connection and it already took me forever to download the vibe 5 and 6 roms and don't want anything else from that rom just the .apks for these apps.
Also do they have to be pushed using adb or terminal or can I just use astro if I have it with rw permission to the /system /data folders n whatnot?
Either way I was hoping someone could post up on here some of these and other stock touchwiz apps for easy dl and reinstallation as I know much more than just myself have been looking for these apps to bring back to our modded roms.
Much thanks to all that could help with this

I would think it'd be as easy as pushing the apks that came with the stock vibrant rom to the current one you right now.

The issue is even if I go all the way back to my old rom through a nand backup you can't grab a back up as a simple apk through titanium and I'm unsure which files i could possibly manually back up to my sd using some sort off root explorer....
Thus my asking if anyone had these apks or files with a method of transferring them where they are needed... I know more then one person is looking for something like this

You must use adb or root explorer to "install" them. You cant just install them like a regular apk.
ADB:
adb push whatever.apk /system/app/ (do the same with the .odex file)
Root explorer:
Just copy the files from your sd to the system folder and reboot.
whoops... meant to post somewhere else, my bust.

Old thread resurrected!
environment: Vibrant rooted w/ Eugene's Gingerclone Final R2
I'm a lil new to replacing system apps, but I read up on this and by all accounts, it should have worked.
Using adb to push the files previously linked to /system/app then rebooting yielded the existing (AOSP?) Calendar still being installed/displayed/used.
Noticed the pushed files had different names.
Renamed source files to match target files and re-pushed. Rebooted. Calendar no longer shows up in application listing.
Used Root Explorer to locate files in /system/app (currently mounted r/w) and tried to install the .apk's; installation ends with msg "Application not installed" with a "done" button to click.
used adb shell to rm the existing Calendar.apk and Calendar.odex, TouchWizCalendarProvider.odex/.apk and TouchWizCalendar.odex.apk and adb reboot.
pushed TouchWizCalendarProver.odex/.apk & TouchWizCalendar.odex/.apk to /sdcard; launched Root Explorer, copied all 4 files to /system/app/ and rebooted.
No "Calendar" or "TouchWizCalendar" or "TWCalendar" etc etc in applications list.
Use Root Explorer to navigate to /system/app/ and try to install said applications and result says "Application Not Installed"
Any help is appreciated.
Does anyone have the Memo app?
Flashed nero v3 and it didnt have it!
Also, i had some important info in there. Will it be there when i push the apk to the sysytem/app folder? My sd card still has everything from before I flashed.

An easier way to do this, which is what I have been doing, is to simply use a File Manager with Read/Write (Root) privileges and copy the libswypecore.so file into your system/lib directory and then install the Swype.apk like a normal app. This way you can do everything without needing to reboot.
I installed by giving them my email getting the apk and installing...you could almost calk it average lol

so quick question, how would I go about uninstalling this?
Swype FCs every time it tries to load.
Mytouch 4g CM 7.02
I'm getting force closes as well using the files posted here. I followed these instructions here because after installing via the sywpe installer beta everytime I rebooted my phone it wouldn't trace anymore. To fix this I needed to disable and reenable swype. So as of right now I'm still outta luck.
To remove swype though simply go into titanium and scroll down to swype and delete it.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Unfortunately swype force closes are not due to this zip and chances are it is the ROM. I would suggest trying fix permissions from recovery or ROM manager. Other than that I would not know what would be causing the force closes.
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using XDA App
maybe i'm confused but i just went to swype.com and registered for beta and it works fine
is this different?
Before I ever tried the files here I used the beta installer that I registered and it seemed like everytime I rebooted it wouldn't swype anymore and the keyboard would flash like an error. I've been running cyanogenmod nightlies, currently on 61. I've tried fixing permissions before but it never corrected the issue.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I tried the Root Explorer method with the same results. No matter what I do to install Swype on any ROM other than CM7, I can't get the keyboard to "swype". I've even created a new account with swype to download it again with no luck. I'm close to using something other than CM7 as my daily ROM but I need Swype! Any more ideas?
Thanks!!
When it won't swype after reboot. Try selecting another board, type something, then go back to swype and slide. Used to work for me when I was using swype
this worked flawlessly! thanks
im running nightlies. i downloaded iced glacier for the original swpe .apk and libswpe files. just selected update zip from sdcard in clockwork.
forse closes, then i uninstalled and uses root explorer to copy both files, than i change the permissions, it worked but gave error about licencing, that this is for some other device. im using htc panache stock GB ROM.
than yesterday i realized new beta is out i re-registered and installed the latest beta which is ofcourse much better , only thing im missing is light colored theme of oribngnal swype.

I got the constant force close using the new swype 3.0 the way I fixed it was deleted it then right after I reinstalled it I rebooted in to recovery and cleared both caches and fixed permissions. I don't think rom manager fix permission is working right for this version.
Ok I've done a little research on this but can't find what I'm looking for exactly.
I really don't like the Blur Contacts app. I have figured out how to filter things correctly so I only get my usual Google contacts but I'd still like to get one feature back that I had on CM - direct dial and direct text message shortcuts. They were supported through the AOSP Contacts app from what I can figure out. The Blur Contacts app has something similar but it doesn't work consistently. Does anyone know if it's possible to install the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk extracted from CM 6.1.1 (what I had on my EVO) and bring them over to my rooted Atrix?
I'd like a different contacts manager as well. This one combines services which is not what I want/need. Any suggestions that are similar to CM contacts on N1 would be appreciated!
+1 more here for a different contacts app.

I'd also love the AOSP dialer

How to Install Android AOSP Apk, in any system.
Find the AOSP apps from a CM6 build by unzipping and pulling the .apk file like browser.apk. Install "File Expert" (Free and amazing file browser with full root access and alteration capabilities application)
Copy the .apk you wish to have on to your phones SD Card
Run File Expert,
hit menu/more/File Explorer settings. Then check "Root Explorer" on the bottom.
hit menu/more/mount/Mount As Read Write
Browse to /System/Apps Find the App you wish to replace with the AOSP version.
Hold Down on the App and when the options come up choose file operations and rename to something like application name.apk.bak
Browse to your SD Card find your app. hold down to choose file operation then choose copy.
Go back to /System/Apps then hit Menu button and choose paste.
Locate the app you just pasted and hold down on it and in file operations choose "permissions" Check Everything and exit out of File Expert
Note: You may need to redo the shortcuts for the app on your desktop and or launcher.
Note: Must have a rooted phone.
Note: 2.3.3 apps may or may not work on 2.2 Android Roms and vice versa.
Note: if this causes errors or failures delete the new apk and rename the old apk to its original name.
Good luck!!
can someone upload the contacts apks?

Download the latest Cyanogen mod for your phone or any. Unzip on your pc and go to the folder labeled system/apps. Get the apps you want from there and pass them to your phone via USB to your phone then follow my previous instructions.
I have already tried to install a different dialer/contacts app. I had no luck, I think that the stock dialer/contacts are to deeply tied into motoblur and the phone system. It won't break your system but you just will not have a dialer or contacts.
Did you try it to my exact instructions. Making sure to you the cyanogen mod that corresponds to your version of android? If it didnt show up on your list you may have tried the 2.3.3 instead of s2.2 dialer.
Oh, I would love to hear the solution to this. I have been trying to figure this out for a couple days now. I pulled Contacts.apk from a Liberty backup I have and have been trying to replace BlurContacts.apk with it to no avail. I believe someone above may have touched on it. Possibly to change when other things look for BlurContacts, and instead refer to Contacts.apk?
I have tried several different contact apps. None work I think that the blur apps are to deeply tied into the system to allow a change.

Open root expolrer long press browser.apk and then click permissions and check all under boxes under read (the collum to the left) and the very top box under write. uncheck all the other boxes it should look like a knight's move in chess. Then reboot
If that doesn't work work extract the browser.apk from the bionix zip it should be under /system/app and do the same thing
If that doesn't work then the only thing I can think of is to install a 3rd party browser or reflash

Again, thanks alot.
I thought I would start a thread to post some of the more requested apps and also a place where someone can go and ask for an app that they think they might need. An app dumping ground so to say.
If you have an app that you want or need, post the request here. Have an app that you think would be good for someone, post it here. If you are in a thread and someone asks for an app, send them here first.
Only thing is NO PAID APPs in here. It is against the rules. I'll put in a few of the more popularly requested ones first and hopefully this thread will be a one-stop-shop for what you might need.
To start I have uploaded the following:
Universal Androot - Will root your 2.1 so you can gain root and install root function apps
Open Recovery (root) - You'll need this to flash ROMs if you are coming from 2.1/sbf. You'll need Mioze's XT720 recovery to use it's tweaks. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242259
Batter Calibrator (root) - Guess
SuperCharger (root) - Used to install and run SuperCharger scripts
All 3 Chainfire3d (root)plug-ins. Was a real search the first time I looked for these. So now they are here in one place.
Have fun and good luck. If you need something, just ask and someone will either post it here or the link to where it can be found.
