Never saw a cameras flash LED look so yellow before ....is it suppose to be?
Ill check in a sprint store if I get that chance....
I went from an epic to a photon and i noticed the yellow led. The epic led was much whiter than this one. Not to mention camera quality

Camera flash LEDs have traditionally been bluish-white, but frankly I think bluish-white LEDs suck as fill flashes. Most people prefer "warm" toned lighting, and a "cool" bluish flash filling in shadow detail in a room otherwise lit with yellowish-cast warm-white light is going to look weird -- and it's going to look weird in a way that's not easy to fix in Photoshop without masking and hand-tweaking. By making the LED itself more yellow, it might better match the normal ambient-lighting conditions where you'd normally use the camera.
Personally, I wish phones with LED flashes had a middle ground between "off" and "max brightness" for situations where you need more than ambient light, but full brightness is just going to make the picture's subject look albino.
I suspect the yellow is there to offset the slightly blue cast from the led.
If you allow a little more red and green through it should correctly balance the color output.

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this on their RAZR. While in landscape mode (I first noticed this while watching Netflix). In the corner near the search capacitive button I noticed the lighting for the capacitive button seeps out a little, like a very small amount. It doesn't overwhelm the screen or anything. When holding my phone upright and looking down towards the capacitive buttons, I do notice some light coming out from the left and right corners. Just wondering if this is because of the design and is normal? Or is it a flaw in the phone? Thanks!
I have noticed this as well on my unit. I have also noticed black blotches on the screen that can be seen when the screen is completely black.

Hmm. It is somewhat hard to notice, I'm still wondering if it is a design thing or flaw.
I have exchanged my Razr and there is still light bleeding from the capacitive button (search). Also the black blotches remain when the screen is black and the backlight is on.

Thanks for confirming this.
droid razr
My screen also has the blotches when the screen is black and in low light conditions.my capacitive buttons also bleed into the screen in the corner but its not something i notice only when i really scrutinise the device.
I have a small streak or two of the blotches but they're only noticeable during the black boot up screen, not when using Netflix or YouTube.
There's absolutely no leaking from the white light of buttons though..
I also have the black bloches, it's like the screen isn't AMOLED; the black's aren't completely black, i compared it to the Galaxy S 2 and on the Galaxy you can hardly see where the edge of the screen is because it is completely black but on the RAZR it's as if the screen is more greenish where the Galaxy would be completely black.
The black's look better on the first Galaxy S than they do on the RAZR
I first noticed when i started using NOLED, i like it better than the led notification light on the RAZR
In any case, quite dissapointing
BTW i don't have light bleeding from the capacative buttons
Hmm. So some units have it and some don't? I do confirm the black blotches when watching netflix and the screen goes black you notice it. The light bleeding i noticed while watching a full HD movie and I was like eh.. What's this tiny flash moving in the corner. That's when I noticed the light bleed, and it occurs only when the capacative buttons are on. Another member stated that he exchanged his RAZR and his replacement one has the same issue as well. I've looked around and it seems other devices also have this issue as well. Not sure if it's just a design flaw or defect.
@Dusanzk you might actually have a defective unit if that's the case, cause some people were complaining about a green tint on the phone. My blacks and black, why whites are white, I have no problem with colors at all. Just that bleeding ;(.
It's quite hard to notice at first, i only notice in the dark and when the screen is completely black.
I downloaded an app called Burn In Tester, you can adjust the colours on your screen to see what they look like and when i choose black that's when i notice it.
Regarding the green tint, i'm not sure that's the problem i'm having because it's only a problem when something black is showing on screen and it's dark, in all other situations the screen looks amazing, like my Galaxy S 2
Hi,
When I am using the flash indoor and it is dark , my pictures have a blue tint. I can see it already when the flash starts, just before taking the picture, that my screen has a blue tint.
I have noticed that , if I don't use the flash indoor and it is dark, I still have a very very little bluish tint but negligible.
When I take a picture indoor , but it is bright, , and the flash is set to on ,my screen doesn't become bluish and I have a "normal" picture"
Any idea what to do?
Daniel
Hi,
could it be that the blue tint comes from the LED being kind of blue? Not to sound sarcastic, but I think this could be the answer to your problem. Because when you look at the LED when switched on, you will realize that it is not pure white, but just a little bit on the blue side, that's at least my impression...
Check the white balance option in the camera settings, it's probably set to daylight or something, change it to auto or flash. Obviously the latter if you are using flash at that moment in time.

No, it is not the white balance option because it is always set to auto.

I have transfered the pictures to my PC and there is no blue when viewing the pictures on my PC.

I had a thought that if it wasn't the white balance then it might be whatever colour setting you have the phone's screen set to. Try changing the display mode to something else then view the photo's again.

But except the brightness level , there are no other settings you can change
Daniel
Settings -> Display -> Screen Mode
Try changing it from whatever it's currently on to something else, then check the photos again, repeat this with all the screen options. There could be a screen calibration problem with your phone on one of those settings.

Thanks but I have tried this already before and there is no difference between the 4 modes and the blue tint.
I think that my S3 has a little blue tint because I have compared it with a friend and there is a difference when viewing an application with a white background.

Sounds like a faulty screen then, take it back and ask for a replacement.
And you are absolutely 100% sure your finger/thumb/whatever is absolutely no where near the flash? As that is by far the best explanation for this and common reason for this. Just check anyone on Facebook and look at their mobile uploads... You'll see lots of photos with blue tints and it's because people take photos with their fingers to close too the flash reflecting light back at the lens.

I am sure my figer is no where near the flash. And like I wrote earlier, on my

yea ive tried all the above suggestions but it doesnt really work
the tint happens when there is another light somewhere in the picture

I find that is the issue for me also, I've noticed it happening when in a room with a TV on for example.
The GS3 has a hard time picking the right WB, it would be nice to have a WB setting for the cool White LED the flash uses.
Maybe a simple piece of scotch tape placed over the flash (with a light yellowish tint) will counteract with the blue tint.
I tried this with some painters maskingtape, the yellow paperbased tape. The pics aren't so blue anymore.
The only problem is finding the right yellow tint.
Maskingtape is a tad too thick and it interferes with the range of the flash.
ahh yes, my friend vs my sgs3, we did a flash light comparison. my i9300 version infact has a slight blue tint to it compared to his neutral tint (att version). I can confirm the blue tint is in fact a real thing

rosco swatchbook on amazon. just ordered the small one; i'll experiment and pick what works best on a neutral white sheet of paper. i'll cut it out and sandwich it between my phone and it's case right over the led.
ridiculous oversight on samsung's part not to white balance the flash's led. pisses me off that i have to resort to this on a flagship phone.

I am on yureka . i can easily confirm pic is bluish because flashlight is bluish. How to solve this. Some other camera app has two type of flash one tourch and other is default flash. Tourch light gives good pictures. How to make a tourch flash by default.
The bluish tint could possibly be how you perceive the image on the screen of the phone.
For example, I just took a photo on my i9300 and can clearly see that it is in the blue spectrum when comparing the photo on the i9300 against real life.
I sent the photo to my HTC M9 and on that screen it looks more like the original real life with no bluish tint.
Therefore I know the camera is good and taking colours correctly but my screen on my i9300 is what seems to be giving it the blue hue.

Titanium Grey Galaxy S3 and NOTE have notification light (LED) defects. The LED does not show the correct colours due to the absence of a cut out of the grey material when the notification LED is. So the LED shines under the grey material which results in wrong colours being deployed and not being as bright. I own both a black and grey S3 and i can see a big difference in the brightness of the LED light. Also when for example a whatsapp message comes through, by default the notification colour is white, but the unfortunately its deployed light blue on the grey phone. Also yellow is displayed as green. This is my 2nd grey S3 and i have also tested a grey Note 2 with the same results.....
How can Samsung release phones like this ?
I don't think that's true for all. My grey note 2 is showing correct colors, and it's even brighter than my s3's as a matter of fact.

This is the 2nd titanium grey i9300 i have owned, i also own a black one and used to own a white one. Also i have checked 3 grey note 2's at 2 different shops so i know what im talking about. Every single grey S3 or note 2 had the same thing. Please download from the play store a app called "LED tester". Then check the white, yellow and orange colours and get back to me. You should see the white shines like cyan (very light blue), the yellow as green and the orange also like green. Please get back to me and let me know. Thanks !

No need for market apps.

Mine is pebble blue, but i tried a Note 2 grey in a shop and it displayed, green blue and red correctly from that menu.
There is no defect.

Yes, i already used this code (*#0*#) and yes RED, GREEN & BLUE are all working ( not as bright as the white, black, blue and red S3's that have the cut out. But the lighter mixed colours are the ones that dont work correctly on the grey phone. If you would like try this app (LED tester) on a grey S3 or Note 2 you will see what i mean.

I'm facing the same problem with my pebble blue s3. All colours except red, blue and green are more or less incorrect. Most of the colors infact show up as a mixture of two or three colours all appearing at the same time. It's such a disappointment to see all those lovely colors of lite flow not being displayed correctly.
Have you found out the solution to this problem yet? Is it even a fixable issue? I'd appreciate any help regarding this problem, as its driving me nuts. Thanks

Yes, that's widely known.
The question is why do we see these colours one by one, when other people don't experience that kind of a problem.

Exactly!! Does anyone have any answers?
As people have already said, none have a cut-out and the LED should be invisible when turned off. Don't know what gave you the impression to the contrary.
Not seeing it when it's off is, presumably, the whole idea of not having a cut-out.

I have the same exact problem with my Grey Note 2....although I noticed something..the latest update for Light Manager fixed the problem completely and I now get correct colors... but my biggest problem now is with Whatsapp..if I don't add it to light manager it will still display wrong colors..and with light manager I can't configure the color for private messages or group messages..it's just one color for all which is not useful for me.

+1 I think this is cause by the opacity of the LED screen filter is too low so the color is not well combined before showing out its color And the color is spreading :crying:
I just bought my Lumia 920 yesterday morning and am liking it so far except for a few small annoyances. The main thing is the buttons on the bottom of the device have a yellow/green tint to them. Are they like this for anyone else or are they supposed to be bright white like on other phones? I have tried to get a good photo but can't and the AT&T salesperson said she can't see it. I was going to just exchange it for another one but they didn't have any more of the matte black ones in stock. I may check with a different store today to see if they have any in stock.

Thanks for the quick reply. I wonder if any of the other phones like the white or cyan have the same thing. For some reason the yellow is bugging me. I guess I am just used to the white lights since I just came from Android devices. I am way too picky LOL.

How is the yellow tint compared to the Lumia 800? Is it yellower?
I like it. It keeps the brightness down to a manageable level. I had the GSIII before this and the brightness of the keys was one reason I rooted and put AOKP on to turn those off permanently.

Same on my black 920. Looking at my wife's 820 hers are brighter when lit and are properly white when the phone is off. On the 920 they are silvered. This must be why they shine a bit yellow when lit.

Ditto. I just checked my wife's 820 and they're white as well.
100% normal
just like my NL900
In all honesty, white LEDs hurt my eyes at night because they're so bright. Even though white looks better, yellow is much more comfortable to look at.
Just a guess but it may have to do with the metallic nature of the screen over thr three buttons. The white led changes color shining through it. I'm slowly getting used to the off-white hue and not bothering me anymore.
I have a black matte colored version of the 920

and mine are tinted slightly yellow as well but there is no green hue to it. On my Samsung Focus S they are pure white though, almost blindingly so compared to the Lumia 920. Not sure which I like better but I am leaning towards blinding white since it looks more natural to me. The yellow will take some getting use to.
I'll get over it.

Hmmmm you were able to turn them off permanently on stock as well.
I think the reason why they have an Yellowish tint is due to the metallic / shiny mirror look they have when they are not lit up.
If you look at the 900, they don't have this finish, they are plain white.
