Hi,
When I am using the flash indoor and it is dark , my pictures have a blue tint. I can see it already when the flash starts, just before taking the picture, that my screen has a blue tint.
I have noticed that , if I don't use the flash indoor and it is dark, I still have a very very little bluish tint but negligible.
When I take a picture indoor , but it is bright, , and the flash is set to on ,my screen doesn't become bluish and I have a "normal" picture"
Any idea what to do?

could it be that the blue tint comes from the LED being kind of blue? Not to sound sarcastic, but I think this could be the answer to your problem. Because when you look at the LED when switched on, you will realize that it is not pure white, but just a little bit on the blue side, that's at least my impression...
Check the white balance option in the camera settings, it's probably set to daylight or something, change it to auto or flash. Obviously the latter if you are using flash at that moment in time.

No, it is not the white balance option because it is always set to auto.

I have transfered the pictures to my PC and there is no blue when viewing the pictures on my PC.

I had a thought that if it wasn't the white balance then it might be whatever colour setting you have the phone's screen set to. Try changing the display mode to something else then view the photo's again.

But except the brightness level , there are no other settings you can change

Settings -> Display -> Screen Mode
Try changing it from whatever it's currently on to something else, then check the photos again, repeat this with all the screen options. There could be a screen calibration problem with your phone on one of those settings.

Thanks but I have tried this already before and there is no difference between the 4 modes and the blue tint.
I think that my S3 has a little blue tint because I have compared it with a friend and there is a difference when viewing an application with a white background.

Sounds like a faulty screen then, take it back and ask for a replacement.
And you are absolutely 100% sure your finger/thumb/whatever is absolutely no where near the flash? As that is by far the best explanation for this and common reason for this. Just check anyone on Facebook and look at their mobile uploads... You'll see lots of photos with blue tints and it's because people take photos with their fingers to close too the flash reflecting light back at the lens.

I am sure my figer is no where near the flash. And like I wrote earlier, on my
PC the pictures don't have a blue tint

I find that is the issue for me also, I've noticed it happening when in a room with a TV on for example.
The GS3 has a hard time picking the right WB, it would be nice to have a WB setting for the cool White LED the flash uses.
Maybe a simple piece of scotch tape placed over the flash (with a light yellowish tint) will counteract with the blue tint.
I tried this with some painters maskingtape, the yellow paperbased tape. The pics aren't so blue anymore.
The only problem is finding the right yellow tint.
Maskingtape is a tad too thick and it interferes with the range of the flash.
ahh yes, my friend vs my sgs3, we did a flash light comparison. my i9300 version infact has a slight blue tint to it compared to his neutral tint (att version). I can confirm the blue tint is in fact a real thing

rosco swatchbook on amazon. just ordered the small one; i'll experiment and pick what works best on a neutral white sheet of paper. i'll cut it out and sandwich it between my phone and it's case right over the led.
ridiculous oversight on samsung's part not to white balance the flash's led. pisses me off that i have to resort to this on a flagship phone.

I am on yureka . i can easily confirm pic is bluish because flashlight is bluish. How to solve this. Some other camera app has two type of flash one tourch and other is default flash. Tourch light gives good pictures. How to make a tourch flash by default.
The bluish tint could possibly be how you perceive the image on the screen of the phone.
For example, I just took a photo on my i9300 and can clearly see that it is in the blue spectrum when comparing the photo on the i9300 against real life.
I sent the photo to my HTC M9 and on that screen it looks more like the original real life with no bluish tint.
Therefore I know the camera is good and taking colours correctly but my screen on my i9300 is what seems to be giving it the blue hue.

Today whilst takin' pics of my son, i noticed whilst pointing the camera down at my cream coloured carpet a pink hue was clearly visible in the centre of the shot. I took a snap and the hue was on definitely there... this was during the day time with only ambient light from my large bay windows...
slowly panning up across the room towards the window it seems to fade away, but directly at the light surface its unmissable...
I double checked the shot on my partners DHD, her shot was completely pink, very poor camera!!
Anyone elses S2 suffering from this? a quick google search shows this has also been an issue on other handsets such as the Nexus One and Samsung Focus...

just to add, this has been the only time ive noticed this issue, shots taken across the room show no visible signs of this, just the straight shot...
tbh, with the quality of all the other shots ive taken, its not a deal breaker for me, this phone still blows away any other ive used, and i don't find blank white walls/carpets interesting enough to take photos of...

That sure looks like something I read about some HTC phone a while back. I'll need to check my phone to see. I wonder if it's software or hardware related.
after some testing i believe this is a software issue, specifically with the AUTO White Balance setting, as i point it to the cloudy sky out the window it looks perfect and when switched to incandescent it goes away!!
like i said before, i don't make a habit of shooting my carpet or my white walls very often!

EDIT: when switched to Daylight mode, it also goes away, although it makes the carpet look orange for obvious reasons... Definitely a White Balance issue, the lighting and colour of the carpet requires the correct setting as opposed to the Auto mode, outside or with good lighting the Auto setting is fine! as far as i'm concerned, panic over! lol

That it isn't a white balance issue, it is a hardware problem. HTC got the same problems on a lot of devices before, and they tried to hide it tweaking the colors, but that doesnt solve the real problem.
If I were you I will return the phone for another one.

then why when i switch to the correct WB setting for the lighting i'm in does the issue disappear?? the issue only arrises in Auto mode under certain lighting conditions. just took a white sheet outside on Auto - No issue!

Maybe in a non-auto mode they know the color temperature that software will apply to the image and then they can tweak the pink tint of the image, but with an auto mode that changes dinamically the color grade they cant adjust the pink tint.
I really dont know, but all of the pink tints problems in all other phones are hardware related issues, I don't know why this is going to be different.
i get exactly what you are saying, but i'm only going by what i'm working out on my device...
at the end of the day, like i said before, its not a deal breaker for me, and ive not had a single issue with it in other lighting conditions...
Also, ive just walked around my room allowing the camera to adjust dynamically, and it does disappear!! i have a standing lamp on, a small window on the opposite wall, and the large bay window at the front of the room, the pink hue is not permanent and is just the Auto WB not being perfect.
Its even visible on video, so i'll upload a vid of the pink disappearing as i walk around the room and the light changes dynamically! Auto WB issue for sure!!

A pink hue like you describe usually means infrared contamination, and happens on any camera to varying degree. Some black clothing in direct sunlight suffers the most.

I'm just uploading a video to Youtube 720p - WB AUTO
You can clearly see the pink hue fading in and out as the phone auto adjusts to the varying lighting in my home, namely Incandescent light fittings, Fluorecent light fittings and daylight outside.
If i set the camera to a setting for one of those lighting conditions specifically, there is no issue in said condition.
I will update this post when its uploaded with the link - THIS IS NOT A PERMANENT HUE CAUSED BY HARDWARE - ITS SOFTWARE STRUGGLING WITH THE LIGHTING CONDITION!! - phew!!

EDIT: the hue becomes very apparent after pointing the camera and any of the light sources directly then quickly moving to a white surface, it then gradually adjusts away...

I doubt Samsung will use the low quality camera sensor that HTC uses buddy.

not sure its the same buddy, it appears in the centre of the image and fades out, i'm 100% certain that this issue is WB/lighting condition related, 10mins and the link will be up if your interested...

I can't agree more there, you should have seen the same shot on the Desire HD, the carpet was entirely pink!! not just a spot in the middle..

BTW I just checked my phone and observed the same situation as described by Dickie. After checking for myself I'm certain it's software related. They may need to tweak their auto white balance algorithm.

Mine is whites are pure white at any angle even at the lowest brightness.
Can anybody else see the yellow tint, if they can it must be a faulty display or maybe you need a firmware upgrade, I dont know.

It could be a defective screen. There are some settings that effect the color temperature of the screen. Play with those to see if it helps.
Under Settings>Display>Background Effect, see what's checked and play with the different choices to see if it helps.
Under Settings>Display, see if Auto adjust screen power is checked. Toggle it back and forth and see what that does.
If it still yellow, exchange the phone. If anything, whites tend to run toward a blueish not yellow tint.

I think s/he's saying its the entire screen. That's been reported a few times. Sadly, there seems to be big variations in the color temperatures of the screen from phone to phone.

yes, that is the entire screen, not just part / a section of it.....
the color tone become quite yellow for the whole screen when the brightness is set to 0-20%, but when I set it to >20% brightness, seems there is no such problem.
I think the quality of Samsung screen is very various ....>.<

You should know that it may even be worse...
Do you have the possibility to get another phone for comparison?
I'm returning a SG2 because of it's low brightness and slightly over the top blue hue from viewing angles.
I compared it to my SG2 and it's solid whites from all viewing angles and twice the brightness of the faulty one on the lowest brightness setting.
Checked the settings, made no difference. Compare to a number of SG2, and then you'll know if your phone has a problem with its display.
found some issues:
-camera pink spot issue
-viewing angles issue (see green tinted when move up & down or left & right)
-bluetooth don't work on skype
but so far i still love this phone

I recommend you return it if you're having those problems.. I'm having none of these things..
(Haven't tried bluetooth on Skype, though.)
out of curiosity, when you get the pink spot on your pics, what are you taking a picture of? Two people had this problem but it seemed that it was because they were taking a picture of a computer screen up close.
can you press the (display on/off) button+HOME button and take a screen of these funky screens?

low light shooting white stuff (my ikea table)
went back to bestbuy mobile and they show me another one and i still see the green tinted when i watch it side way
i guess that's how the new Samsung panel known issue.

Just tried this, I get green tint when viewing at anything more than about 30 degrees off-axis.

I dont see any of these problems.
But the red spot could be the cameras IR sensor if it has one? Low light situations against a bright object... That what it seems most people are trying to take pictures of to show this issue.

But....
This is the second GS3 I have, and both of them have that annoying yellow tint on whites. You can see clearly on whatsapp, web, mailing, whites plain backgrounds.
It's also hard to forget, because when I move the screen 15-20 degrees using it the whites magically became real white, perfect white.
A friend has the same issue with his GS3 but he told me he saw in a shop a GS3 with perfetc whites with no tint at all, white as ice.
With my previous GS2's had some very light blue tint that didn't annoyed me at all (insted, I liked that cold whites temperature).
Tried screen adjuster but dind't help
Any of you guys experienced that?

Let's just say that the type of lighting you are under have a big impact on how you perceive the color temperatures on your phones. Under lighting in my local phone store my phone looks to have neutral white. Under fluorescent lights in my office it looks slightly pinkish. In indirect sunlight it looks yellowish. Under low evening sun it looks bluish.

Supercurio is working on the app DisplayExpert which makes it possible to calibrate the screen.
He has it running on his S III according to his Twitter.
But the app is not finished yet.

I think it is more advanced than Screen Adjuster after reading his Twitter..
But you could ask him if DisplayExpert is better at fixing yellow tint than Screen Adjuster.

Try flashing Franco kernel r10, it had colour fixes, my whites are now really white, and screen is clearer. You could also try changing screen mode, I use natural

Every S3 I've seen so far has this yellow tint.
Other problems of this display are (software related):
black crush
oversharpening artifacts (fixed with Hardcore's kernel)

I have my warranty and the entire box at hand and I need to reassure myself before I head to the service center and request for a replacement. If not, I'll just sell it off.
I'm too, disappointed by the yellow tint that comes with this high res screen. As with others, tilting 20 deg will make the whites cooler. I did a bit of digging and found that there are many different shades of white. The usual white, or at least the one that I'm used to, on my Desire HD, is reddish/pinkish white.
You can do a bit of experimenting by looking at a blank page on SIII for half a minute, then look at another phone. If the white is different, it maybe due to different color casting. This will be particularly annoying still if you have to stare at screen tuned to a different temp at your workplace, and when you are ready to relax and use your phone, wham, you hate your S3 again.
I read a lot of 'black text on white background' and this annoy me as hell. I think that yellowish white make me think I'm reading off a piece of wash out toilet paper.
What do you guys think?

Sorry for double post that was a screen shoot out I linked...the screen should be down a bit to 6500k for accurate color temp. I can't wait for supercurios screen app it will improve battery life. Maybe op should exchange his phone.big was at Verizon store today the display model was quite blue as well no yellow here.

In browser go to menu, colors and select level 1. That will make it less yellowish.

Mine not for sure. I wish it was bluish like most samoled I had, like GS2.
It's just yellowish instead, and a can see true whites only if I tilt the screen 20 degrees. Seems like a old paper, non beatiful to see.
Gonna return for the second time, but I'm not really confident I will find a GS3 with real whites display like gs2, like I want, like a 600€ 4,8" is supposed to.
Same story for me. Second SGS3 with a yellow tint. If I tilt the phone up or down slightly the whites look right.

Exactly. Nobody that got GS3 with whites real white without tilting the phone up or down?
The problem is mentioned in the title. And when taking a photo with my Z2, the photo looks a little bit pink. But after uploading it on fb or the laptop, the photo looks fine. So I guess the screen is the problem. The screen looks pink especially when taking picture with the dark and white background. Anyone get the same issue (screen) like me? Sorry for my broken english. Thanks.

If your pictures look fine on other devices then problem is, of course, in your device.
Cases and screen protectors could cause problems and reflections but that's not it
(it would be visible on all devices)
You can try to calibrate white balance, maybe that helps a bit.

Sony has introduced Live Color LED technology on the Z2. This uses green and red phosphor with blue LEDs to create more uniform and brighter color reproduction. Hence the backlight seem to be pink to blue when viewed from an angle.
Its a normal behaviour :fingers-crossed:
