Play with my new gsII for 2 days now - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

found some issues:
-camera pink spot issue
-viewing angles issue (see green tinted when move up & down or left & right)
-bluetooth don't work on skype
but so far i still love this phone

thanks. when i get mine, i'll be sure to check for these issues.

I recommend you return it if you're having those problems.. I'm having none of these things..
(Haven't tried bluetooth on Skype, though.)

out of curiosity, when you get the pink spot on your pics, what are you taking a picture of? Two people had this problem but it seemed that it was because they were taking a picture of a computer screen up close.

can you press the (display on/off) button+HOME button and take a screen of these funky screens?

Have you removed all the protective film from your phone?
Just out of curiosity.

Just tried this, I get green tint when viewing at anything more than about 30 degrees off-axis.

I dont see any of these problems.
But the red spot could be the cameras IR sensor if it has one? Low light situations against a bright object... That what it seems most people are trying to take pictures of to show this issue.

Should I return my TBolt and get another one?

I just spent hours setting up all my apps, widgets, media, everything. Now I notice when the capacitive buttons are lit I have two tiny pinhole sized light leaks under the buttons at the bottom edge of the screen....grrrrr! Not very noticeable but freaking lame. Take it back?

Same thing.
Mine isn't that noticable unless ur in the perfect spot looking at the phone from the reverse angle, figured that never happens anyway. For the user you never see it so, /shrug.
Seems like it might be a common problem though if yours is similar.
If your talking about when you hold the phone vertical and look straight down the edge of the screen. I have them too.

I'm having the same problem, but like you wrote it's not noticeable unless you are looking at it from an angle. For now I'll live with it but if it gets any worse I'm taking it back to Verizon.
All of them are like that, so if that is your only complaint, no don't return it.
I can't find any light leaks on mine...
Maybe I'm lucky or I just don't see it.

I notice that too, but I think that is normal. My light leaks are actually at the very bottom of the phone, in the black area beneath the buttons. You can see them when holding the phone normally, not upside down or at an angle.

Noticed this too when using phone in a darker environment. There's light bleeding through between the bottom glass and the case near the back button when viewing at about 65 degree.

[Q] Strong green/blue-ish tint on screen when tilting phone

Hi
I have a problem that i can't find any existing threads on.
I just received my SGS2 and noticed right away when i turned it on that it had very poor viewing angles regarding color accuracy.
If i tilt it just a little back/forward or right/left, it shows a strong green/blue-ish tint on the screen.
My girlfriend also bought a SGS2 a week ago and her phone does not do this when i tilt it.
Is this normal behavior the first few days or is my screen broken?
I will make a video tonight that shows the problem.

It is NOT normal! I have tested mine against two other SGS2 now, both are less that 4 weeks old and none of them has this problem.
I think what you other guys are referring to is the blueish white that all the screens have. This is not what i'm talking about. My phone shows a really strong blue tint when you tilt it just a little in any direction. It is so strong that it is even clearly visible and disturbing in photos shown on the screen, making it impossible to sit several people and watch photos on the phone.
I cannot show any video or images of this problem as i have already sent it back.

Don't know what you lot are on about, but when I tilt my screen, even to an insane angle and view it almost till I am looking at the side of the phone, the colour is the same as when i'm looking at it dead on.
I think the viewing angle is amazing, and the colours and brightness are just as good viewed at an angle as straight on.. so I'm confused.

Yes there is.. My girlfriends and my friends phone does not do this. I will take som photos to document this.
I have a feeling the problem lies with the glass screen or the coating.
I switch the screen off and tilt it, I get a bright daylight reflection on the screen, but I look at the glass and not the reflection. I then notice that the glass has got a blue hue to it.
Actually if I tilt it in other directions I can see pink colouration too lol.
Have others noticed this?
I better stop obsessing now or it will start to annoy me

I haven't tested this with the phone off. But i do know that the problem i describe has nothing to do with being obsessive. The first thing both my girlfriend and friend noticed was the strong blue tint which is completely non-existent on their devices.
I aswell notice the blue tinting when i tilt it abit, its easily noticable, but its nothing terrible, its just there.
would be interested in more parties opinions, seems as though only a select few so far dont have it, or cant notice it for some reason =)

Yes we need more data.
Maybe we should also define how much tilt we're talking about.
On my device only a few degrees, less than 7 degrees produced a strong blue-ish tint wich was easily observable and annoying to the point that you couldn't really sit several people beside each other and watch photos on it. My old SGS1 did not have this problem either at all.
Here's some vids of SGS2 devices which do NOT have this issue as reference:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK7M_RNQM7k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOxAh4I2jrk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fvr_P0euqWc
The last video link is really good. It shows the screen from a lot of angles where none of them produces any blue tint. Look at 6:35 where he titlts it upwards and down again on the table. No tint. If i laid my phone on the table and filmed if from the same angle as he did, my screen would show a strong blue tint.

can you post a pic please?
my first one did took it back. second one is decent.
Between light leakage and dead pixels I would say there are a few with cosmetic issues out there. I had to take my first phone back in for an exchange because it had a dead pixel in the right hand corner and also had dust underneath the camera lens. Looked over my replacement in the store and checked for dead pixels with the Dead Pixel Test app and it was fine. Failed to notice this eye sore near my search button. When capacitive buttons are lit up this thing is hard not to notice. Called Customer Service and they are supposed to call me tomorrow to let me know about yet another exchange...
I have some too. It's nothing to care about tho, my buttons and 2D-3D switch are solid unlike some who are having over sensitivity issues. If I am anal about my phone id be spending too much time with sprint customer service and less time enjoying a great device. If i complained I'd probably get a phone with other issues. I have warranty and insurance, if something REALLY goes wrong, ill just get a replacement. My real goal is not to drop this baby
In your picture, the white "dot" near your search button...is that where the light sensor is on your hardware? Mine is located just above and to the left of my "back" button...that would be weird if it was actually in two different locations. Or is it just a reflection from somewhere?
...just to be clear, I am referring to the first picture that was posted.

Light sensor is always located on the top of the device.
On the 3vo its to the right of the HTC logo on top of your phone
From working in a plastic injection molding company it looks as if the white glowing spec is where it wasn't fully painted or molded (aka short shot) before the layer of glass was placed over it... Causing a leak of light
All speculation don't qoute me on it

what HW version do you have? I have some small light leakage at the bottom too BUT i think the big thing different from the evo4g screens is that the screens are very tight, when you try to push them down they dont budge. With the 4G you could pinch the screen and the light leakage would go away some. With the 3d thats not the case.
Now as far as your 2d/3d button. how is it play wise front to back? mine wiggles a bit front to back but is very solid top to bottom(direction to switch to 2d-3d).
Guys,
Use screen filter from the marker. Set transparency to 100% it won't filter anything but will dim the capacative buttons to almost off. Just a band aid for now but it will help.
No light leakage here, but I headache a case that would hide out I'd there was, so for right now I'm not worried.

That is exactly what mine looks like. I'm using that screen filter app and trying to forget that it's there for now. I'll make a switch if anything near the end of the 30 days. What I'm really trying to get used to after my nova screen EvO4G is the yellowish hue over everything. Seems like an Epson panel all over again
HTC just needs to dim those capacative Buttons down. No reason for it to be that bright. So annoying useing it at night/ in the dark.
That would be awesome if someone could write an app to control the light of the capacitive buttons. I mean if screen filter can shut them on/off....
i got a little bit, and although id rather it not be there, i really dont mind it at all...
reason is, that unlike the one the OG EVO had which looked like a mess because its random spots where it leaks where it looks ugly, but on the E3D it looks like a slight (very very slight) glowing ring around the bottom which doesnt look that bad IMO
It's not light bleed LOL those are so bright its a reflection . So don't worry not light leaking .

Lucky you, i have a "dead pixel", green one.
And a yellowspot in the rightbottom corner, but that'll fade over time. (i hope)
I'm glad that the screen has a very high resolution, it's really hard to even notice the dead pixel.
I have noticed a yellowish tinge at the bottom of the display. Only really notice it when there is a white background. Is it likely that the display is somehow faulty??

I have the exact same, a yellowish spot in the bottom right corner.
I hoped it was the same problem as the iphone or SGS2.
They say the yellowspot is from the glue that they use to stick the screenlayers together, but it needs time to vaporise and should go away over time.
But I have my phone now almost a week and i still get the spot back now and then.

Hi guys just wanna update you regarding screen issues.
I've spoken with people on the forum of my country, other 2 guys with Xperia S and both of them got that really barely visible yellow tint on the bottom part of the screen (also, one of these guys has 2 Xperia S -him and his brother- and both of them have that tint).
Really difficult to explain it on forums (nothing compared to the GS2 yellow tint) because it's really hard to see and only visible on white/clear colors uniform backgrounds, but according to what I'm seeing it's a common issue, not a problem of a single faulty unit.
Got a blue/whiteisch pixel to the top right of my screen
They said i need to have more then 3 to get a new phone :/`
Can i fix this ?

I have the problem too. I called technical team dept from where i bought the phone, and they asked me to do a screen test over the phone. I tap the screen it shows all white, tap again red, green etc etc. He asked me if i could see a yellowish tinge running across the bottom of the display when these colours appeared on the display which i couldn't to be honest. I took it back to the shop, and i dont know if it has to do with the bright lighting within the store, but it didn't show up hardly at all, barely noticeable. It seems less noticeable in a well lit environment, or outside as opposed to when i am at home where it i notice it more. It is midly annoying, but this shouldn't be the case.
Can anyone throw any light as to what this could be??
Thanks

I believe that yellowish tint has something to do with warmth from the screen or the battery or the screen staying on for a longer time or something or something.
because when I'm using it alot, playing games, browsing, whatsapp etc etc. for like an hour. It gets more visible.
And then it's from "barely noticeable" to "hard to miss"
I can clearly see it on Grey (notification slide down) or Blue (startscreen DrawSomething) or White.

Same here. Interesting what you say. I would still like to know where the consumer stands on this issue, and if Sony themselves would recogonise if this is a somehow a fault with the display. My Arc had no such problems.
Hi guys,
I'm new here, but I was reading the threads on the S from the start.
Reading through the screen problems I was thinking about the following:
The Xperia S's screen is glued- as I know -, like for example the iPhone4/4s'. Some i4 users noticed this yellowish tint as well, and they've came to a conclusion it was because of the glue what was used to put the screens together and it disappeared after about 1,5-2 weeks.
This could explain the reaction to temperature differences too.

Pictures have a blue tint when using the flash

Hi,
When I am using the flash indoor and it is dark , my pictures have a blue tint. I can see it already when the flash starts, just before taking the picture, that my screen has a blue tint.
I have noticed that , if I don't use the flash indoor and it is dark, I still have a very very little bluish tint but negligible.
When I take a picture indoor , but it is bright, , and the flash is set to on ,my screen doesn't become bluish and I have a "normal" picture"
Any idea what to do?
Daniel
Hi,
could it be that the blue tint comes from the LED being kind of blue? Not to sound sarcastic, but I think this could be the answer to your problem. Because when you look at the LED when switched on, you will realize that it is not pure white, but just a little bit on the blue side, that's at least my impression...
Check the white balance option in the camera settings, it's probably set to daylight or something, change it to auto or flash. Obviously the latter if you are using flash at that moment in time.

I had a thought that if it wasn't the white balance then it might be whatever colour setting you have the phone's screen set to. Try changing the display mode to something else then view the photo's again.

Settings -> Display -> Screen Mode
Try changing it from whatever it's currently on to something else, then check the photos again, repeat this with all the screen options. There could be a screen calibration problem with your phone on one of those settings.

Thanks but I have tried this already before and there is no difference between the 4 modes and the blue tint.
I think that my S3 has a little blue tint because I have compared it with a friend and there is a difference when viewing an application with a white background.

Sounds like a faulty screen then, take it back and ask for a replacement.
And you are absolutely 100% sure your finger/thumb/whatever is absolutely no where near the flash? As that is by far the best explanation for this and common reason for this. Just check anyone on Facebook and look at their mobile uploads... You'll see lots of photos with blue tints and it's because people take photos with their fingers to close too the flash reflecting light back at the lens.

I find that is the issue for me also, I've noticed it happening when in a room with a TV on for example.
The GS3 has a hard time picking the right WB, it would be nice to have a WB setting for the cool White LED the flash uses.
Maybe a simple piece of scotch tape placed over the flash (with a light yellowish tint) will counteract with the blue tint.
I tried this with some painters maskingtape, the yellow paperbased tape. The pics aren't so blue anymore.
The only problem is finding the right yellow tint.
Maskingtape is a tad too thick and it interferes with the range of the flash.
ahh yes, my friend vs my sgs3, we did a flash light comparison. my i9300 version infact has a slight blue tint to it compared to his neutral tint (att version). I can confirm the blue tint is in fact a real thing
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
rosco swatchbook on amazon. just ordered the small one; i'll experiment and pick what works best on a neutral white sheet of paper. i'll cut it out and sandwich it between my phone and it's case right over the led.
ridiculous oversight on samsung's part not to white balance the flash's led. pisses me off that i have to resort to this on a flagship phone.

I am on yureka . i can easily confirm pic is bluish because flashlight is bluish. How to solve this. Some other camera app has two type of flash one tourch and other is default flash. Tourch light gives good pictures. How to make a tourch flash by default.
The bluish tint could possibly be how you perceive the image on the screen of the phone.
For example, I just took a photo on my i9300 and can clearly see that it is in the blue spectrum when comparing the photo on the i9300 against real life.
I sent the photo to my HTC M9 and on that screen it looks more like the original real life with no bluish tint.
Therefore I know the camera is good and taking colours correctly but my screen on my i9300 is what seems to be giving it the blue hue.
