[Q] Camera/Video DCIM directory structure - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know how to change how photos/videos are stored in the DCIM folder? Back when I was on stock, photos went to DCIM/photos and videos in DCIM/videos. Since I've been running custom ROMs (Bionix), they instead both store in DCIM/camera. Does anyone know if it's possible to change that? I can't find an option in the camera setting beyond saving to internal vs external sd, and as best I can find, this hasn't been addressed anywhere on the forums (probably because it's a pretty insignificant preference issue... I'm just OCD about my directory structure and the Gallery layout...
Thanks for any help!

Photo's

Guess I should know but not sure ....Whats the best way to move my photo's around on the phone. I think they are stored on the internal phone storage which is starting to run out and as I have a 32GB inside I would rather they went there.
Thanks

You can move the photos with any file explorer for your phone.
You can also save any new videos or photos directly to the external sdcrad by; opening camera and change settings / storage -> memory card. Do it in the video settings too.
Thanks
Yep.....should have known !
Anyway many thanks for info.

How do you change camera/video file folder destination?

I've searched and can't seem to fine the option to change the folder destination of pictures and videos taken from the camera/video app?
The option was available on my galaxy s2 phone so its certainly not because of pics.
Anyone knows how to change them? I would like to change the folder destinations to my external sdcard. Much safer to have them there in case of a crash.
Anyone?

One alternative solution is to install the Dropbox app and enable camera/gallery syncing. This will upload all your camera photos to Dropbox automatically. It has the added benefit of being an online backup of your photos in case you lose both your phone and SD card.

Android(JB) Gallery broken?

Hi there,
Whats the deal with Google not fixing/improving the current Gallery? Right now i have installed a new SD card for dedicated camera storage for ease of transferring to/from my computer.
But upon copy my DCIM/Camera folder over, the gallery now decides to sort my media by grouping the entire Video selection at the front of my gallery in the correct date order, followed by all my photos in the correct date order? Why aren't they mixed together in date order and instead grouped in the "media type", and does anybody know a fix?
I have tried to check the filenames and they are fine. When I open the camera directory on my computer, the files appear fine and all in the correct date/filename sorting.
My device in a GS3 running stock rom, have asked in there but figured its more of a general Android/JB problem and here would have more chance of a helping hand.
Thanks!

[FW 5.1.1] How to set Default location for EDITED Photos to SD Card?

Hi guys,
I am new to Android, coming from Symbian (maybe the last one to make the jump on Planet Earth?), and though I was able to figure out a lot of things, including how to set Camera Photos to be stored in the SD Card, I can't seem to find a way to set the EDITED Photos, edited under default's album Editor, to the SD card.
Little background: Today I was backing up some of the jpgs under the SD drive (saved under SD\DCIM) just to realize some photos were missing. After inspecting the Phone Internal Storage I realized a folder called /Edited and the missing photos were there. These happen to be the photos I edited using the Album App (native to Android or Sony Xperia? Not sure).
My question is, how do I set Album App to save edited photos ALSO under the SD drive? I edit most of my shots, so figuring this out would be great to keep all photos under the SD card.
Thanks in advance and not sure if important, but this is for a Xperia Z5C.

Hello,
you should be able to change the folder with Root. If you don't want to root your device, you must use another App to edit your pictures.

Any way to not show videos in Gallery?

I had a bunch of images downloaded from various sources.. I stored them all in a folder called myimgs or something like that on internal storage. It really annoyed me that they showed up in Gallery. I moved them to my external storage and that solved the issue.
However, I downloaded a bunch of music videos so I don't have to use data. I stored them on my external memory card, but they all show up in my Gallery. 400+ videos. Any way to not have that happen? Not that I have anything to hide, it's annoying to scroll through that many thumbnails.

Click to collapse
I believe you can just make a file named
".nomedia" (without quotes) in each folder you don't want scanned.
Then open gallery app info and clear the app's cache....
Sent from my God Mode 8
Or use Samsung Secure folder to hide your videos from Gallery and only you can view it
The problem with using .nomedia is that the video players (at least the built-in one) won't recognize the videos as media, either.
