[Q] Sharing Lan connection to Wireless devices - Optimus One, P500, V General

I looked into other topics on this forum and didn't find an answer so I hope someone could help me out.
I want to share my PC Broadband Connection through a wireless device (MSI US60SE) so I can browse internet on my LG O1 when I'm at home. I am aware things might be easier with a WiFi router ... but far as it goes this is what I tried, not looking fwd to buy a wireless router at the moment.
Over Broadband Connection > Properties > Sharing I selected "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" and over > Home networking connection < I selected "Wireless connection" and I hit OK.
I set up an ad-hoc internet sharing with a name and password WEP2.
I activated the connections... broadband and ad-hoc. For the 2nd one there was a note "Awaiting connections" a green light was blinking ... so it was on...
I activated the WiFi on my LG O1 P500 and surprise.... there was no sign of my ad-hoc sharing connection. I tried to add it... and there was a note "Not in range"
MSI US60SE is an USB wireless adapter, 802.11b/g, 108Mbs and far as I know Optimus One P500 has WiFi 802.11b/g
Here are some info about the MSI:
Networking

Data Link Protocol IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, 802.11 Super G
Spread Spectrum Method OFDM, DSSS
Data Transfer Rate 108 Mbps
Line Coding Format DBPSK, DQPSK, CCK, OFDM
Frequency Band 2.4 GHz
Max Range Open Space 830 m
Compliant Standards IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.1x
Encryption Algorithm AES, 128-bit WEP, 64-bit WEP, 152-bit WEP, TKIP, WPA, WPA2
Compliant Standards CE, FCC
If I would want to connect my PC through the MSI US60SE I can see the same WiFi (locked) connection I get on my P500
Can anyone explain if I messed up somewhere or if the US60SE is capable of acting as a WiFi router so I could share my PPOE via US60SE to connect my P500
Thanks!

Dude by default android doesn't. Search in the forum you will find a post with a zip file flash it and u can see the adhoc network. Or if using win7 use connnectify
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App

Thanks for the tip... I got the answer here. I didn't search using adhoc... well my O1 runs Froyo 2.2.2 and I need to root, for that need to downgrade to 2.2.0... so guess is easier to get a WiFi router or go out downtown fishing for unsecured connections )

[Q] Laptop and G Tab WiFi no Network?

I have a home network at house A (our house) with linksys and internet access.
I am remodeling house B and do not have a network set up at house B yet, also no internet wiring yet and no modem or router yet.
I would like to take my Windows 7 Laptop and G Tablet (stock rom) to house B and connect them together by WiFi but without the Network and Internet access set up yet.
So, no linksys at house B, no WEP, no accounts, no internet.
I want to run home automation (X10) with a CM15A computer interface connected to the laptop with laptop and G Tablet running Autom8.
The G Tablet will be handy while locating the X 10 modules around the house.
The laptop will be plugged into AC outlet and connected to CM15A or CM19A X10 module.
I think there is a program to run on Windows 7 to set up ad hoc wifi but I can't find the post that I think pertains to this type of set up.
If anyone has done this, and can offer some help, thanks for your reply!
Connectify will setup a wifi connection between the two, if thats all ur looking for. Its meant to share a connection between two systems but ive used it for what ur looking for too. Hope this helps
I have an adhoc with my Win7 laptop.... Heres what I did....
Go to Network and Sharing Center (right click network icon by clock)
Choose Setup a new connection or network
at the bottom of the list, pick Set up a wireless adhoc
Enter your information and your good to go.
Hope this helps ya. I know my droid x had issues connecting to adhoc networks... im not sure if its an issue with android or motorola, but just wanted to let you know.

[Q] Wireless N on SGS2?

Hi guys, anyone can help me out here with regards to connecting our SGS2 to Wireless N network? I have tried changing my radio frequency setting and even resorted to using WEP authentication instead of WPA, but I just can't get the phone to connect via N network, it always connects via G instead. But under the same settings, I am able to connect my acer laptop and my wife's iphone4 to the N network.
Is there any specific settings I need to configure on my router? I am using a Prolink H5004N adsl2+ modem with wireless N router. The modem is compliant to IEEE 802.11n standards, not draft-n and should work with the SGS2?

Not sure, but I think that it will connect if your N-network are in the 2.4 GHz frequency area, but not in the 5.0 GHz

Yup, tried that too, but still connects to G only. I have also tried configuring router to accept only N networks instead of G/N, but then the SGS2 will not even see the SSID when its performing a wireless scan.

Ive got the same issue. Router Asus RT-N16 (b/g/n, 2.4GHz). Playing with different router firmwares, settings and so on - no luck so far.
Check the "advanced" settings by pressing the menu button in the wireless and make sure nothing wierd is set in there.
Otherwise, as long as the router is set to N only on the 2.4ghz band, it should at _least_ see the SSID.
That modem supports WPS, try pressing the WPS button on the back of the modem and then use the "WPS button connection" option in the wi-fi settings menu on the SGS2.
Remember the single-channel 802.11n 2.4ghz such as the SGS2 supports will only max out at 72mbps anyway so there's not a huge improvement over the 54mbps that 11g will give you, although 11n is more efficient.

I've got the same unit and it works fine with it, that said I'm running a recent build of the Tomato firmware on mine. I don't think I even powered it up fully with the original firmware...

thx for fast reply
SGS2 can see SSID, but fails to connect until I force RT-N16 (with custom firmware, RT-N16-1.9.2.7-rtn-r3121) down to "Use 802.11 G only".
Never had any problems with other 802.11 N powered devices.
only wpa2-aes or no encryption are N-standard

wireless N only officially supports either WPA2-AES encryption or no encryption. Devices with drivers that more closely comply to the spec will not connect to WEP or WPA.
I hope you fixed the issue. I stumbled across this thread while asking the same question; maybe someone else will benefit by having this thread wrapped-up also. No haters, egos, persons, etc please. It's been necessary already to block a few of you.

connected to Adhoc, but no internet!!!

hey all,
i have rooted sgs2
i modified my wpa supplicant to get adhoc connectivity.
my phone can connected to adhoc network created in my desktop, but no internet available in my phone.
i have checked the "enable internet sharing" option of the LAN adapter which carries internet to my desktop, but no way..
also tried connectify and virtual hotsopt..same situation..
please help me to find a solution..
What type of modem/router do you have and does it have wifi capability?
IIRC the android doesnt support ad-hoc networks. Use a program called connectify to set up a virtual access point your phone can use
Edit ah ok forget it im getting sleepy here... Perhaps you shod try going with different wireless security? WPA/PSK works well here.

Sharing android mobile 3g/4g hotspot to wifi router via pc computer (xp vista win7)!!

Sharing 3G/4G Internet connection on Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP connected with Android mobile phone via WiFi HOTSPOT or USB LAN or 3G/4G USB modem datacard , and then use the wireless Wifi router as a WiFi access point for the other devices.
1) Setting up the router
Router WAN will not be connected to any modem, *** NOTHING ON ROUTER WAN PORT (NO INTERNET VIA PPPoE DSL , STATIC OR DYNAMIC IPs) but it will made to act as Access Point for "sharing" the shared internet connection on Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP.
First, one needs to access the wireless Wifi router's configuration settings, usually one need to connect the Wifi router, and then access its setup page either over WiFi network, or by plugging it to desktop or laptop in 1 of its 4 LAN ports. setup page is accessible by entering the router's IP address 192.168.1.1 on IE address bar or some other browser like Firefox etc. however consider your router's manual to see how to get to the settings. Ideally, resetting the wireless Wifi router and then following its setup guide would best way start off.
Once on Wireless Wifi router's settings do the following:
a) Enable the Wifi connection. It should be enabled by default, but some routers require you to manually enable it.
b) Secure your network. Under security options, there should be a way for you to specify a password for your new wireless network. Here you will have multiple options, probably WEP, WPA and WPA2. Set up either WEP or WPA/WPA2 security. WPA2 would be best if your router supports it. Consider having a look at the router's manual for that.
c) Disable DHCP. Look for a setting that says something about automatic addressing (or "DHCP"). Which is enabled by default, disable it – ****this is most important!
d) Connect the router to Computer Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP. The LAN port of Desktop should be connected to 1 out of router's 4 LAN ports via RJ45 cable. Wireless Wifi router will have one WAN internet Modem port at the back designated only for modems, as mentioned above do not use connect anything to this port so-called WAN port.
Once above steps are done Wireless Wifi router is all set.
2) Enable connection sharing
• Now if you have 3G/4G dongle data card then insert it into USB port of Computer Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP
Go to "Network Connections"; locate your “3G modem” connection
Right click and select "Properties"
Select "Advanced"
Enable "Internet Connection Sharing"
One should be able to share it over Computer Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP LAN interface connected to wireless router or share it over Wifi card connected to Wireless router.
• If you have 3G/4G Internet connection on Android mobile phone connected USB port of Computer Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP
Go to "Network Connections"; locate "Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device" connection
Right click and select "Properties"
Select "Advanced"
Enable "Internet Connection Sharing"
One should be able to share it over Computer Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP LAN interface connected to wireless router or share it over Wifi card connected to Wireless router.
• If you have 3G/4G Internet connection on Android mobile phone connected via Android mobile HOTSPOT to Computer Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP
Go to "Network Connections", locate Wifi adapter e.g. "Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter" connection connected to Android mobile HOTSPOT
Right click and select "Properties"
Select "Advanced"
Enable "Internet Connection Sharing"
One should be able to shared it over Computer Desktop/PC/NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP LAN interface connected to wireless router or if you two wifi wireless adapter card then share it over 2nd Wifi card connected to Wireless router.
Once done you are all set to rock the network by connecting other Desktops/PCs/NOTEBOOKs/LAPTOPs/Android/windows/Apple/blackberry’s phones and other devices to Wifi wireless router Access point that you had set up. Your devices should acquire an IP address and be able to connect to the internet with any issues. Windows will lease out more than just one address when using windows ICS!

WiFi 11AC connection

I learned from description of TP-LINK Archer T4U that
Whenever there is only wired Internet connection, you can activate the SoftAP function of the Archer T4U after installing the bundled utility software, and create a Wi-Fi hotspot for mobile devices. This feature is useful when travelling to places where there is only one cable for Internet and mutiple people have to use the Internet.

So I assume I can connect my smartphone to my USB-stick equipped PC by 802.11AC 5GHz connection without any 802.11AC nearby routers
Now, my question is, whether it is only TP-LINK Archer T4U which can make a SoftAP under Windows or any other WiFi USB-stick can do the same trick? Does that depend on Windows or vendor's drivers and software?
