connected to Adhoc, but no internet!!! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey all,
i have rooted sgs2
i modified my wpa supplicant to get adhoc connectivity.
my phone can connected to adhoc network created in my desktop, but no internet available in my phone.
i have checked the "enable internet sharing" option of the LAN adapter which carries internet to my desktop, but no way..
also tried connectify and virtual hotsopt..same situation..
please help me to find a solution..

What type of modem/router do you have and does it have wifi capability?

IIRC the android doesnt support ad-hoc networks. Use a program called connectify to set up a virtual access point your phone can use
Edit ah ok forget it im getting sleepy here... Perhaps you shod try going with different wireless security? WPA/PSK works well here.

Hero has problems finding WLAN Network

Hi,
while I was using an Ipod Touch, I always have created adhoc networks via Windows Vista Home with internet access for devices in this network.
My Ipod Touch never have had (and actually doesnt have) any problems finding and connecting to this network, but my Htc Hero doesnt even find it after I typed in SSID, password etc. manually.
am I making any mistakes or why doesnt this work?
greetings,
ben

I have a Belkin wireless router and had to disable the "11n" functions and go strictly with "11g". Until I did that my Hero wouldn't detect the network. After making the router setting changes I also had to disable the mobile network on the phone before it would see my network. Then I entered my security key and all was fine. Restarted the mobile network on the phone and it's automatically connected every time I'm in range. Don't know if that may be your problem or not... but good luck with it.
well, I dont have any problems connecting to my router via wifi. this works fine. the problem just exists with my laptop's adhoc network :<
thx anyway.
The HTC Hero doesn't allow connecting to ad-hoc networks. Its been disabled. If u have sdk, connect it and check tiwlan.ini & wpa_supplicant.conf file. Modify it to enable ad-hoc network and again save back..

[Q] Want to share PC DSL connection with my Vibrant. How can I do it?

Hi Guys. Need a little help.
Scenario: I have a wired ADSL connection in my home for internet. I have Windows 7 on my PC installed. I have a TP-Link TL-WN321G WiFi card in my PC as well.
Now, I want to share my PC's ADSL connection with my Vibrant through my WiFi card.
So far, I have failed to achieve it. I have tried doing it the TP-Link way by establishing a Soft AP through a software provided by them, but no success. I have tried connectify, no luck here either. My vibrant detects the network but never connects to it...
Any help, what so ever will be really appreciated...
Easiest way, get a $30 router at your local store. Will save you a headache. Otherwise bridge your wired and wireless connection using windows.

Well what you will need to do is allow ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the wired NIC card and allow other users to share the connection. It should DHCP the wired NIC and assign your wireless card an IP address like 192.168.137.1 and Subnet of 255.255.255.0.
Actually I don't want to buy a new router, want to use my WiFi card. And it is possible through it, so I think I should not spend money on a router...
I have tried everything... ICS is not working... Connectify is not working either...
There is some way of doing it through Adhoc network, I read somewhere but I have also read that Adhoc network is not supported in Android...
If someone can help, that would be great...
Odd because I'm doing ICS via Windows 7 and mine works perfectly..
***Edit...you might have to add in the default gateway ip and primary dns server ip on the wireless card for it to look for your wired NIC
just right click on your wired NIC and go to status and then details
Hmm... I am going to try this but do I share the internet with my WiFi card or the Virtual WiFi Miniport?
You share the wired NIC "allow other users to connect " it will act as your DHCP server and assign an address to your wireless card
Nothing is happening for me...
My Vibrant detects the WiFi AP but does not connect to it... It evens show the signal strength to be "Excellent" but does not connect to it...
Man... Its really frustrating when you can not get something to work...
So it just wont connect period?? Not even to network? Or will it connect and just no internet.... Hmmmmm
It just wont connect. Period...
Thanks for your willingness to help though...
Google "set up adhoc windows 7" to get your wireless set up properly, then should be easy. Keep it simple at first. Broadcast ssid and one you will recognize, and no password to eliminate any problems. Once configured and workinggo back and set up a password.

I have tried this Ad Hoc connection as well but I have read somewhere that Android does not support Ad Hoc connection. If there is some way around, please do tell me...
Finally... Got it working guys...

Followed it and it just worked...
Man, I am relieved...

[Q] need help with internet connection sharing from laptop

I've been trying to share internet connection from my laptop with gtab using "connectify". The wifi setting on the gtab actually says "connected" but I have no internet access I think it's because of ip config or something but i don't know how to fix it. Any idea what's going on?

I would assume your laptop is creating a peer-to-peer or AdHoc network that Android can struggle with. There are no less than a dozen threads on this here. Some fixes for connecting to AdHoc but my experience has been that you will need a Infrastructure network to connect to with no issues. Use the search field upper right.

Go to settings -> Wireless and network -> Tethering and portable hotspot -> Then select "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings" - From this you can set up a Wi-Fi network that uses your mobile internet.
Once you've set this up connect to the wireless network via your laptop and launch the app called "Kies air". From there you can transfer files without the need of the usb connector...
To use DLNA you need a wireless network, i wouldn't recommend using the portable Wi-Fi hotspot for it.
Thank you very much Stylee32 this helps
hope i will get my WiFi router soon
Edit: I tried this solution. Got my PC connected to Mobile. But the url which Kies Air gave didnt work
Edit 2: Finally it worked. Thank you so much
No problem at all, glad i could help

[Q] Connect to Win7 Ad-Hoc network with Shared Internet

I know that I have looked into this before and that Android Gingerbread and ICS did not have the ability to connect to a wireless Ad-Hoc network with shared internet connection. I read some places that this was supposed to be included in JB, but I am still unable to see any wireless Ad-Hoc networks when I create one using Win7.
I just work in a remote location with little to no 3g and definitely no 4g....it would be awesome if I could share the wired connection on my laptop. I know that there are 3rd party "virtual router" applications that can accomplish this, but it is a corporate laptop and I cannot install anything on it. Thanks!
