I've been trying to share internet connection from my laptop with gtab using "connectify". The wifi setting on the gtab actually says "connected" but I have no internet access I think it's because of ip config or something but i don't know how to fix it. Any idea what's going on?

I would assume your laptop is creating a peer-to-peer or AdHoc network that Android can struggle with. There are no less than a dozen threads on this here. Some fixes for connecting to AdHoc but my experience has been that you will need a Infrastructure network to connect to with no issues. Use the search field upper right.

Ok, I looked on the WIKI and searched the site for a solution and was unable to find one.
Here is my problem. I have wireless internet at my house. My access point works fine. My laptop and PS3 connect to with no problem at all. My Touch pro connects to it with no problem. But, after I connect to the WIFI (and verify it is connected) I cannot use it?
I tried to open opera = "site not found" try to open Skyfire = "site not found"
I cant even update my weather while connected to WIFI. So thats my problem. I can connect to WIFI but not use it!
ANY AND ALL HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you in advance. iko[

You and I are not the first. I researched this (in depth) and it is found on a lot of sites, people complaining about it....However, I have yet to find an answer, that is why I came here...these guys can usually solve some pretty complex stuff!
Hopefully someone answers soon......

I have the same problem... ps3s and all. The only difference is my network shows up on my TP but it displays half the signal strength my laptop and my ps3s show.

ok i fix it....very very easy...under the "WIFI" settings there is a box to check...next to the box it says "use IEEE 802.1X Network Access Control" check this box then under that is a choice for "EAP Type" choose the "smart card" connection....also turn off your data connection via the comm manager...for some reason my TP wont let me connect to WIFI when the data communication is enabled....good luck worked for me!

When I go into Settings, the Connections tab, and click on WiFi, I don't see any check boxes at all, let alone one for "Use IEEE ...".
I must be in the wrong menu/place. Could someone please help direct me to the right place?
you'll see the check boxes once you connect to a wifi..i also have wireless internet at my house, and can connect and use my wifi just fine.
try to install some app that block`s data connections from your mobile provider ... nodata for example, you can find a link to it on xda.
set all the other connections to disabled ... and you phone connection to GSM ... not GPRS, EDGE or something else ...
set your wi-fi connection to connect to the internet ... not to work.
this worked for me for a dlink 784 router, now i`m banging my head against a 524 (again DLink) and have the same problem it connects but does not get on the internet. the problem seems to come from the TP, some settings need adjusting but i didnt figure out which one yet ...
good luck
PS: for iko, i think you have your router set on enteprise security, not personal... for personal WPA, WPA2 with a PSK, and TKIP or AES encryption, the "use IEEE 802.1X Network Access Control" is checked and greyed out, and you do not have access to it on the TP
Hi Guys. Need a little help.
Scenario: I have a wired ADSL connection in my home for internet. I have Windows 7 on my PC installed. I have a TP-Link TL-WN321G WiFi card in my PC as well.
Now, I want to share my PC's ADSL connection with my Vibrant through my WiFi card.
So far, I have failed to achieve it. I have tried doing it the TP-Link way by establishing a Soft AP through a software provided by them, but no success. I have tried connectify, no luck here either. My vibrant detects the network but never connects to it...
Any help, what so ever will be really appreciated...
Easiest way, get a $30 router at your local store. Will save you a headache. Otherwise bridge your wired and wireless connection using windows.

Well what you will need to do is allow ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the wired NIC card and allow other users to share the connection. It should DHCP the wired NIC and assign your wireless card an IP address like 192.168.137.1 and Subnet of 255.255.255.0.
Actually I don't want to buy a new router, want to use my WiFi card. And it is possible through it, so I think I should not spend money on a router...
I have tried everything... ICS is not working... Connectify is not working either...
There is some way of doing it through Adhoc network, I read somewhere but I have also read that Adhoc network is not supported in Android...
If someone can help, that would be great...
Odd because I'm doing ICS via Windows 7 and mine works perfectly..
***Edit...you might have to add in the default gateway ip and primary dns server ip on the wireless card for it to look for your wired NIC
just right click on your wired NIC and go to status and then details
Hmm... I am going to try this but do I share the internet with my WiFi card or the Virtual WiFi Miniport?
You share the wired NIC "allow other users to connect " it will act as your DHCP server and assign an address to your wireless card
Nothing is happening for me...
My Vibrant detects the WiFi AP but does not connect to it... It evens show the signal strength to be "Excellent" but does not connect to it...
Man... Its really frustrating when you can not get something to work...
So it just wont connect period?? Not even to network? Or will it connect and just no internet.... Hmmmmm
It just wont connect. Period...
Thanks for your willingness to help though...
Google "set up adhoc windows 7" to get your wireless set up properly, then should be easy. Keep it simple at first. Broadcast ssid and one you will recognize, and no password to eliminate any problems. Once configured and workinggo back and set up a password.

I have tried this Ad Hoc connection as well but I have read somewhere that Android does not support Ad Hoc connection. If there is some way around, please do tell me...
Finally... Got it working guys...
Here is the link: http://www.itgeekdiary.com/windows-7-as-an-wi-fi-access-point/
Followed it and it just worked...
Man, I am relieved...
hey all,
i have rooted sgs2
i modified my wpa supplicant to get adhoc connectivity.
my phone can connected to adhoc network created in my desktop, but no internet available in my phone.
i have checked the "enable internet sharing" option of the LAN adapter which carries internet to my desktop, but no way..
also tried connectify and virtual hotsopt..same situation..
please help me to find a solution..
What type of modem/router do you have and does it have wifi capability?
IIRC the android doesnt support ad-hoc networks. Use a program called connectify to set up a virtual access point your phone can use
Edit ah ok forget it im getting sleepy here... Perhaps you shod try going with different wireless security? WPA/PSK works well here.

Alright, did the usual searches and have the usual answers wich don't seem to pertain to what i'm doing.
I have one static connection allowed to wifi router. I wish to use phone to share this connection with more than one device not using mobile data but the broadband connection.
Basically connect phone to broadband wifi. Have devices connect to phone to share wifi.
Again, to prevent any confusion: I do not want to share mobile connection on phone. I wish to share wifi connection with other devices from phone. ie. I have only one connection allowed to router and I wish to use phone to share that connection with PC and PS3.
Sorry for redundancy in stating this but people seem to miss the point or not read and suggest applications like Barnacle wich only share mobile internet or USB tethering wich only works for PC.
Well from what I understand Wi-Fi must be off on phone in order to create the Wi-Fi signal on the phone so this may be impossible

I know exactly what you are saying, and I am pretty sure it is impossible. I currently have wi-fi service where I have to log in, with only 1 device allowed log in at a time. When you turn on the wi-fi hotspot on your phone, it automatically turns your wi-fi off. You can only use the hotspot feature using your data connection over 3g or 4g. I have tried everything. If you are in the same situation, where you can only log one device on the internet connection, you may want to try spoofing your IP. Change the IP on the other devices to the IP on your phone. This may allow you to log the other devices in as well (so I have read). That may be your only option.
Yeah looks like Im going to connect PC and use an ethernet cable with connection sharing to get PS3 to work. Phone will have to use mobile data unless PC and PS3 arent being used.
Or phone gets wifi and USB tethered to pc and then connection shared (not sure this will work).
sharing wifi connection
I have done this using a Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP ethernet converter. You connect to the wireless source (WAP) then it acts like a router and allows you to plug devices into it, has four ports but you could use a switch if more are needed. Each device aquires an IP from the converter and is hidden to the WAP, looks like one device is connected. Pretty easy to setup. Check it out.
HI,
I have seen thread with the same problems but im not able to find a permanent solutions in all these threads
problem: I have HTC explorer, i have a wifi connection in my home of CISCO router. My laptop with windows 7 is able to connect to the wifi and im able to access the internet. When i connect my mobile to it, wifi gets connected but im not able to access internet.
So i tried giving static IP, which worked fine but only temporarily. Now when i give static IP im not able to access internet. Even though my computer and mobile ip settings are same
I do not have much technical knowledge about wifi networks, so please can someone tell me what exactly to do to solve this isse. I have been having this problem from the last two months. it will be of great help
