Why cant the simpler way of pushing the font using adb work ???
You don't need ADB. Just copy the zip on the sd and flash it !
Try custom font changer
From the market.

Is it possible?
for example if I would like to change to "Ubuntu" font.
do I have to remove the native font with the new one? Would the font show properly?
yes it is check this app:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/type-fresh-change-fonts-on-your-rooted-android-device/
also if the font that you mentioned, the ubuntu one is a .zip and it has inside the META-INF folder that means you can install that .zip from recovery.
i suggest you this fonts too:

Does Type Fresh work on stock 2.1 with root and busybox?
I tried Custom Font Changer but it failed to work.
I don't know. I have 2.3.3
Hello i have changed to font changer app for root users only because it has the screen display tool wich is very nice and works perfectly in my 2.1 custom ROM.
Once you run the app it will create a folder named .fontchanger in your sdcard, then extract the fonts (.ttf format for android) to that folder, go back to the app menu>> refresh and voila you will now see the fonts, install one it will reboot let it load completely give it 3 minutes after the boot and you are ready to go.
I repeat this app is for root users you need busy box too

i tried downloading sony sketch onto Virus airborne rom but everytime i do it stop right away and doesn't flash.
has anyone successfully flashed a font using TWRP?
I haven't managed to flash a font but I do use a workaround.
Create a folder on your sd card named "Fonts" and download .ttf files straight onto your device.
Use font changer located here, https://market.android.com/details?id=com.martino2k6.fontchangerlite, pick the font you want to use and reboot.
For some reason, not all .ttf fonts will be supported.
Better than nothing though.

Hello is there a way to make fonts a little bigger I dont see gmail. Other roms have use bigger font option but this no.
thanks for help
Yeah, I'm wondering too?
you can install font installer from the market if your rooted, not 100% about making bigger though I'll need to double check
Already tried font installer but doesnt work even with rooted rom.
Try to install devtools then set bigger font.

I dont know how to use devtools but I've tried font chanfer and dpi changer programs with no luck. I'm on .67 Rom with root permissions.

I am facing same issue after replacing a new font in my xperia s and i finally managed to use fontforge to enlarge the fonts in the ttf file.
It sounds clumsy but i find this is the best way to resolve. Hope this gives you another view.

Use Root Explorer, go to /system/build.prop - open the file build.prop in text editor and you can edit the pixel density of the screen

The reason is because your rooted /system partition has less than adequate space for the new fonts to copy over. Some preroot images do not resize the partition properly, hence font programs will not be able to copy the fonts to the system properly (even manually). Some even report failure in installing / updating busybox.
OK I used to use either font changer or type fresh or absolute system but none of these work no more . I have tried replacing the Droid sans and Droid sans bold with some fonts I have( renamed them to Droid and droidsans bold)with root explorer . But can't seem to get it to change after reboot. Can someone help me out please.
Should note that I'm not on checkrom n speedmod etc like it says in my sig. I'm now on f1 galaxynexus rom. If that makes any difference.

try font installer or rom toolbox from play store and select what fonts u want to replace in preferences/select fonts.
Fontomizer SP from market
All of them only overwrite the regular font and not the bold
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Font installer i'm sure does all of them... if not then I'm sure Font Changer does...
I get bootloops when trying to override bold. On every font changer there is available

I prefer Font Changer to use When you change font, go in recovery make permissions and reboot.
Dont forget make a nandroid back up first .
I couldn't change file permissions. There is no any file browser in the recovery or even command prompt
I got 2 bootloops during change of font to bold. It is shame Android is so useless in customizing
I'm sure this has been discussed, but I cannot seem to find the thread...
My phone is rooted...I'm copying fonts into the system/font folder, but the new fonts are not showing up in the list. I am checking the folder to Mount R/W, so it lets me copy them.
Also, is ther a way for me to get Go Launcher to default to the system font? Anytime I change the system font, I also have to change it in Go Launcher for everything to match.
use app like font changer, font installer, it should works.
