any help greatly appreciated
thanks
It happened to mine, the only thing you can do is send it back. It sucks but the screen is faulty.
Send her round with it........... I'll see if I can help
Seriously though, buggered screen I'm afraid..
Had the same problem. Sent it in for a repair and got it back in 10 days.
I've got the same problem!!! I used to say that it was the best phone I've ever used but my mind is changed! :S
Same problem here. I can type with the top and middle of the screen, but the bottom is less responsive/sometimes non-responsive, and backspace doesn't work. Dave Hagenaars: Did you have to pay for the repair?
Aslong as it's under warranty HTC will repair it for nothing. It seems it's a fairly common fault. It come's back with a sticker asking you not to leave the phone in your pocket whilst sat down. Bless them.

same problem here, i need put it back everything to stock before going to t-mobile shop. did u go to t-mobile shop or u just called them? thanks in advance
My touchscreen works fine when holding it upright, but when the phone is laying down it gets really unresponsive. Anyone else having this issue?
Since it works sometimes, I'm guessing it must be software issue...
Hey,
Sometimes my HTC Hero acts weird.
Sense starts to jump between 2 screens (as if I'm constantly giving it input) when I'm doing nothing.
Also sometimes a press anywhere on the screen makes the phone think I'm pressing something at the bottom.
And last but not least, sometimes when I try to type something I lose the function of both the bottom left and right part of the screen, meaning I can't use backspace, the L, P, A and other various keys that reside there.
Does anyone also have these problems?
Is this hardware related or can I hope that this problem is solved with the 2.0/2.1 update?
Mine does the same
It happens to me as well, and i bought it abroad so no repair for me
Also - mine does the CRAZIEST thing - i can move the screen without touching it!! This is crazy - i just hover the finger above it and i can move the desktop left to right ("feature" only available when teh screen starts to jerk around)
I have no idea what to do - it drives me crazy - all my presses are wrong, and some dont work at all!!
I have figured a "way" to make it normal for a while, i just press the end key to close the screen and then turn it on again and it kinda, kinda, works again.
anybody there knows whats is the fault? if its software or hardware?, anyway i sent mine for repair and still waiting.
It's a hardware issue, no doubt. I have experienced all the issues described in the last 3-4 posts. Will have to send it in for repair after christmas - but I'll probably have to get back to the original firmware first.

well i took off the screen protector, and still pretty the same issue. anyway but now atleast it's under repair. so waiting for the phone i hope to get it before xmas.
I have a dead spot around the O and L key when typing messages in the landscape position.
Should I back-up my phone and remove all private data when getting it repaired?
had a sticker - same thing
i removed mine as well - and same thing.
talked to HTC - but they dont have a repair place in Israel - so i will have to send it abroad to the UK maybe for repair.
I still dont understand - if this is a hardware issue - how does it fix it for a short while when i press the "end" key, and re-open the phone.
if the hardware was defective it should always happen and wont be "fixed" for a short while.
Same problem, dont believe it is hardware
Got the same problem when i update to another rom LOX or Hikari.
Wiping and going back to Modaco 3.0 and everything is perfect again. Have the feeling that it has also something to do with the radio images
Maybe also something to do in which order the roms and radio's are updated. Still testing but got the same problem. Reverting back to my modaco 3.0 nandroid and everything works again.
For me this is the stable version where the bottom line works:
Firmware: 1.5
Radio: 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18
Kernel:2.6.27-mck-teknologist-1.9
Build:Modaco Custom Rom 3.0 Core, SSH
Softwareversion:1.0.0A6288

I have a similiar problem on my Hero. Did you find a solution to it?
What's weird is that it isn't constant. It comes and goes.
But when flashing the cya mod with 2.1 my phone was stuck on the enter sim card code screen.. Could not press OK to continue.
Sorry guys..I think this is my first post here..I tried to make I resarch on my prob but I haven't find nothing similar (correct me if I am wrong..)
By the way I was using Dutty crem de la crem for a month with no prob after that the following issue came up:
Once my phone is on if I keep it pressed the power off button the page with power, lock screen or terminate data options show up but at this point the touch screen is freeze doesn't work...only thing I can do is repressed the power button, switch off the screen and re and press for example the "answering" button and I can unlock the phone (in this case the touch screen is operable)
Same thing if is the phone is in locked and I press the power off button I can not operate the touch screen (and unlock the phone) and again...only thing I can do is repressed the power button, switch off the screen and re and press for example the "answering" button and I can unlock the phone (in this case the touch screen is operable).
I tried the following:
-change the rom to last energy and dutty v11,change couple of time the radio version, format the memory card, operate the phone without sim card and memory card but no change.
Last I installed the original rom from HTC...and still the problem persist...I start to think is something related to the hardware..could be???
Any idea?
Other question why after I installed the original rom I can still see the hspl 2.08 if I switch on the phone keeping the volume down?
Thx guy!

it has to be hardware if the problem occurs with different roms / radios. (a different though similar problem happened with me- eventually it all stopped working.) i would try to return it...
no matter what rom you have you can enter bootloader (like you said with volume down) and see what spl (or hspl) you have. if you flashed the original rom from your pc hspl will still be there; if you flashed from your sd card it is likely back to spl.
cheers.
yep it's a hardware problem. i know because this just happened to me last week, except that the start menu would pop up instead... i did multiple hard resets but nothing. t-mobile said it's a common issue with our phones though your the only other case of this happening that i know of... other than me lol. you'll have to get a new leo
so if I have properly understood your verdict is to flash original rom from the SD and return the phone to HTC get it fixed (it is obviously still under warranty!!),,,right?
How strange.
My HD2 has just started to do the exact same thing. When WinMo boots the screen works fine but when it has been in standby and i press a key to waken it up, the screen does not respond.
I have done a hard reset also and it is still not playing up.
Looks like i'll need to call the insurance company.

yes.
flashing from the sd should get rid of the hspl so all should be back to normal (i would double check though with a quick launch into bootloader...)
good luck!
damn I have the same issue right now. i thought it might have been a bad rom that i flash. i have to reset my phone every time i want to you use it. I cracked my screen so I don't know if that would void any mfg warranty on it.
Sent my handset to HTC on 8th Sept. Got it back on 28th Sept with new screen and new outer case which had a few chps and scratches.
All working fine again. Long time to wait tho. A day off 3 weeks
I am having this exact same problem. I had a feeling it was the hardware after it started doing it in Windows as well as Android. If we didn't purchase the insurance from T-mobile do we send the phone back to HTC via our T-Mobile store. I have had the phone for about 6 months now. Is it a costly fix?
My Back button is almost gone. I need to press it very hard to make it work. Fortunately I have a 2 yr warranty from the Mobile Store. Looks like LG designed it to last worth 13 months only. I restored all the software and sent the phone in for warranty repair today.
On first look - its seems to be hardware problem. For me i have problem with power button. Sometimes when i press it, screen went dark, but after very short while screen wake up! Sometimes i must click power button five times! And it show with wake up screen too, then screen go black
I think this is hardware problem, beacuse it was on miks CM, adfad CM, Andy hybrid CM. I dont remember if it was on stock 2.2.2 too. Can it be CM problem?

I think you probably have the famous black screen bug, which is there in pretty much all the custom ROMs and worst with 35 kernel. You can check this by restoring the original LG ROM (use KDZ method) and testing in the original. I also restored my original ROM since I was anyway going to have to give it to LG to get it repaired. I checked the back button in the original ROM and there was the same problem.

Yeah even my hard buttons(back and menu) stop working very often and i have to take it to the service centre to get it fixed(im in warranty too)
This is the only serious hw prob iv faced with my o1
Is it possible to fix this on our own without spoiling the phone?
back button problem
i had got the back button problem six months after buying the phone..(in june) i took it to the service center with a custom rom installed and they didn't even care about it...
6 months later now the problem is back...this time i don't have a warranty...

Since it's a hardware problem I doubt if it can be fixed without the necessary spare part, even if we could open it. That's why the higher end phones come with capacitive hardware buttons I guess? But even something like an iphone has a hard home key, obviously of higher quality though.
Has anyone in India sent in their phone to the service centre yet? How long does LG take normally?

Hi Guys ,
I searched every where but all i could find was that Motorola Atrix 4G has some technical error / hardware failure that many of the devices have face a problem with a non-working screen portion in the LCD , Has anyone over come this , atleast by replacing the touch screen.
Also , my volume down button is not working . I am not sure if its a hardware fauilure coz i can enable fast boot protocol while the phone boots.
I had theses issues before the phone was rooted or the bootloader was unlocked , which left me empty handed.
Only thing I had done was an OTA update 2.3.6 , but buy the time i got this phone the OTA update was done and these issues were there and i didnt identify them at that point
Please advise ...
Thanks !!!

I'm havving the same problem! Some parts of the touch screen stopped working after updating to the 2.3.6, but i did'nt do it OTA, I did via RDS lite
Digitizer borked.
Had exact same issues on two different atrixes....phone was still under warranty..returned to store a month before warranty got a new one..a month later, out of warranty the volume down stop working,...if u are out of warranty( most likely)...you have to replace digitizer....the volume button u have to do without it, I use notification toggles app to control volume from status bar...
You can find both digitizers and camera flex cables (that include vol buttons) on ebay for cheap
Hello XDA,
I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered, but I cannot seem to find any threads describing the problem I have.
Please read below the post that I have put in the Noob Guide thread... After attempting to root my Note for the first time, somehow during the initial process the touch-buttons have completely stopped working
"I don't know how or why, but the touch buttons on the bottom of the phone are no longer working. Is it broken? I was using the stock ICS version on the Note, decided to root it using your guide. I followed the steps, but it locked up on the Samsung logo on bootup. So I then went to restore the phone to stock and try again, and now the buttons are not working at all??? What happened??
By the way, the touch screen is working totally fine. I just cannot press the home, menu, back and search buttons. Also, when I followed the process to bring the phone back to stock, the phone would hangup during boot as well. It would freeze this time on the ATT white and blue logo screen. I followed the advice by Da G and did a factory wipe, and then it finally booted up, but no buttons!!! How do I fix this??
So I've been experimenting as much as possible to try and figure out where I went wrong in this process to break the capacitor buttons. I've tried flashing the stock rom through Odin several times, still no buttons. Without the use of the buttons, I've been able to flash CWM and root the phone, and then was able to flash a rom with no problems at all (since CWM only uses the volume and power buttons to function). I chose a random rom and flashed it, Novena (Alliance Rom), and that process went smoothly. But I still have no touch buttons!!!! What happened??
Is this an unfixable problem? Considering I've been able to do anything with the phone except for touch the buttons, it doesn't seem like it would be a software problem.. But what could I have done to break the buttons? I'm so frustrated.. am I going to have to claim a new phone through insurance? If so, I'm pretty damn scared of trying to root the phone again!"
I would take a look at the ussd codes and see if there is one to test this specific setting!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Thank you for the reply! I looked through all the USSD codes on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953506&highlight=ussd+code
I could not find anything that would help me. In CWM boot menu, there is a "Key Test" feature in the Advanced section. When I choose that, it registers "Key: 114, 115", etc. when I press the volume up, down and power buttons, but there is no reaction when I touch the capacitive buttons. It says that you have to press "Back" to get out of this test mode, so I'm stuck in the mode and have to reboot since the stupid button doesn't work. >_<
I'm so frustrated. Has anyone ever had this problem?? It seems so bizarre...
that happen to me with my brand new skyrocket.something went during root process.i couldnt fix it.i tried everything.i end up calling att .they replaced it with refurbished unit.good luck.you must have done something wrong while rooting.because samsung phones are hard to ****up.i know what i did.i ran a app from playstore to unlock sim after i rooted it.thats what messed up my buttons.

Aw man, that's discouraging. I can cough up the $200 and get a replacement phone through insurance, but now I'm scared to root it again! I don't know what I did wrong.. I followed all the steps I was supposed to as far as I know.
If I get a replacement phone and try to root it, if this happens again the warranty is void right? So I'd have to go through insurance again to get a new one?
only time i have seen this happen was with a friends epic touch. he flashed a rom for different galaxy sii device. it booted and only problem was buttons not working. you do have a note i717? just checking. you could flash a rom that you can enable navigation bar with onscreen buttons. i am running eclipse and it has this feature and i dont have any problems with rom.

Thanks for the reply.. That is actually a good idea, I will have to try that if the buttons break again. I say "again" because **update** the buttons are magically working now!! Wtf?? I received a phone call and talked for a bit, set the phone down and when I picked it up again the buttons are all working like nothing was ever wrong.
Of course, they magically started working AFTER I called Assurion and ordered a replacement... Ugh. That is the second time I've ordered a replacement and cancelled it.
Another update...
They're broken again. UGH. No idea why or why they started working for a few minutes. I'm getting that replacement phone and I'll try again. I really hope it doesn't happen again...
