[Q] Can i root ka6 stock via bluetooth? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious if anyone knows the possibility of rooting stock ka6(wifes vibrant) with my rooted vibrant running custom rom(latest Axura)? I am able to transfer busybox and superuser, neither fully installing.

Download it and place on the internal sd card..... And No, i ve never heard of anyone downloading a rom onto a phone via Bluetooth, but could be possible.

The reason for the??? Is b/c my pc had a meltdown. So odin and heim. are out of the pic.

You could use dropbox as well.

Is there a flashable version of stock eclair via the stock recovery?
If so, you could do that.... then using the phone download the update.zip to root.
THEN you could flash CWR and flash a custom ROM.
All of this could be done from the phone browser... I've never looked to see if a stock eclair was out there you could flash via stock recovery though. Check the DEV BIBLE.

Really? It's that easy on EA28? I was under the impression you needed the clockworkmod kernel flashed first. Anyone else have any insight on this?
Just tried flashing via ROM Manager and it's a no go. I need to flash custom kernel and the link that is in this thread is broken

From what I've read, Heimdall (or whatever the name is) doesn't work for our phones, so Odin is the only way to flash it. Setting up a VirtualMachine and using USB-passthrough probably would work, but otherwise you'd need to find a computer that can run Odin (you'd also need to use Odin whenever you change the modem used).

Heimdall works fine with the fascinate. I haven't used odin in months, and use heimdall daily to flash test kernels and such. Not sure it works with mac though.

There has got to be another way. When using ODIN how is it flashing it to your phone? Is it possible to use ADB commands through MAC to accomplish the same thing? Also there is a way to flash the clockworkmod kernel using a MAC, instructions are posted on the previous post (link) but the link within that thread is broken, anyone have the file??

Rom Manager can only install part of CWM. The rest needs to be flashed via Download mode, such as with Odin (or that other one, apparently).

I cant even get my mac to recognize my phone. I searched 3 sites yesterday and still cant get it to connect. It says the disc is not readable.
I haven't been able to find samsung drivers for MAC. I can dual boot on my mac so everything for my phone I have to switch to Windows.
Here is all you need for using your Mac to push files to your SD (when the computer won't recognize), root, flash CWM... Only thing not possible yet is flashing the radio. So if you plan to upgrade to froyo you need to at least have the DL09 radio already.
Tried the one click root and it wouldnt work...said permission denied. Tried it about 5 different ways and never got past the first step where I was supposed to drag and drop files into terminal to be pushed to sdcard. Allows denied permission...i assume I was dragging the right files into the terminal.
You need to use the manual adb rooting method when rooting in OS X. Also to flash custom kernel and recovery, you need to flash them with redbend_ua.

cw recovery will not boot into it

i flashed rooted my phone come to find out the root was bad it turned my wifi off after everytime i turn it on well i reflashed it useing the stock with root and it still willl not boot into the recovery it just goes into the android e3 recovery any help would be awesome
What did you use to root your phone?
ODIN?
Have you ever used the program ODIN? If you already have the driver installed into your computer ODIN should be able to bring it back. Install Odin and find the your Operating system files for your phone. Im sure theres a video or forum for it. Google it.

Of course you don't have CWM Recovery; you flashed a stock kernel. Having root and having CWM are not the same thing.
Relax, you didn't do anything wrong; you're just not finished yet. What you need to do now is download Mobile Odin from the market, and use it to flash either Entropy's Daily Driver or Siyah. Either one includes CWM Recovery.

Be careful...ShoStock 1.x is Gingerbread(Android 2.3), but ShoStock 2.x is Ice Cream Sandwich(Android 4.0). Choose which one you want based on that.

Bricked My SGS 3

Hi Guys,
I rooted my SGS3 and installed LCD Density Modder to change the LCD density. I selected density value as 220 and rebooted my phone. The phone went into a bootloop after which I did a factory reset. The phone could reboot into android but it always shown me an error that touchwiz has stopped. So I went into recovery mode and cleared - data, system, cache . To my horror, now the phone is not booting. It only shows the white samsung logo.I have tried doinf a factory reset but it does not help.
I can enter the download mode. Please suggest what should I do ?
Thanks!!
flash your stock rom with odin :good:
If you can go to a download mode just flash another rom via odin.i think that should help.

You removed your ROM. It has nothing to load. Pick a ROM, download and save it to your SD Card, then flash it via your custom recovery (or flash with ODIN if you don't have a custom recovery).
P.S. If it makes you feel any better, I did this the first time I rooted my T-Mobile myTouch way back when. It's a noob mistake, but fixable. Don't worry, that's why you've got us!

Thanks for the quick reply guys!
I have been flashing a lot on my previous I9000 . So I was very confident that I could handle this.
Can you please tell me how do i put a CWM flashable ROM on the internal SD card unless my phone is booted in android ? Because all the custom roms I find here are CWM flashable and not ODIN flashable.. I remeber way back Darky had cooked a base ROM for I9000 which was ODIN flashable. Do you have any idea about such a rom?
Also, the stock rom is a huge file and the server at androidfirmwares.net does not support resuming I have a poor bandwidth these days.. Can you direct me to a resumable link or a torrent link for the Stock 4.0.4 ICS for INDIA.
Will be a great help !!

Sad to say you're gonna need to use your computer brosef. Get a microSD card reader for your computer, download the ROM zip to it, then go into your CWM recovery and flash it. If you don't have a computer or a card reader you'll need to put your SIM and SD Card in another phone and download it that way, then put the SIM and SD Card back in your S3.
Go to sammobile dowbload stock rom and flash via odin.then root and then do what you wantits simple this way

Or you could just go here to download both Odin and a stock ROM for the S3 and flash them from your computer

[Q] Restore ROM backup Or re-flash stock

S3 is rooted and it has CWM 6 recovery.
Today, I was trying to flash a custom rom (UltimaROM) but the installer crashed at the end, resulting in a soft brick (stuck boot logo forever).
I was told to follow the steps again and pray for a success. But somehow, the custom ROM .zip file from the S3's internal SD got deleted. So, I don't know how to put the custom rom back into the SD again. There's no USB storage in CWM 6, so I cannot transfer the zip file - unless I'm missing something else.
I don't have an external SD, either, but I do have a backup of my working ROM. However, my backup ROM isn't on the internal SD as well. All of the stuff are on my PC.
Is it possible to re-flash my backup ROM via Odin? If so, how?
If not, I'd re-flash my Stock ROM and start over again... but the problem is I don't know how to find a correct stock firmware for my S3. It's been almost 1 year since I rooted my S3. Samsung KIES doesn't even have the special information (sale code?) for my S3... unless I connect S3 to PC, but I get problems (Kies stuck on connecting)
Thanks in advance.

How? Odin won't let me select a .ZIP file to flash.
As for flashing a backed up ROM via ODIN..........a CWM backup is .ZIP (Image.zip) or system.ext4.tar? But if it's tar... there are two .TAR files in my backup ROM... doesn't Odin only use 1 file?
I seriously don't know this stuff.

i was gonna use the superoneclick program but it says "file download blocked." isn't shortfuse.org the site to get it from? or where do i get the program?

I've done a lot of researching which way is the best to root it, and i think superoneclick looks best. please tell me different if i'm wrong ... so yeah... thanks in advance
Your right to try and use superoneclick as a rooting program. Try downloading the most updated version and scan on Norton for viruses. Then open the program, make sure you have USB debugging on and hit root. After that hit yes when you get prompted to test and unplug your device and reboot.

thanks for answering!! i clicked on the link and hit download and it downloaded but it said that chrome blocked, cause it's malicious. (pic below) it shows up under my downloads though. i scanned it with vipre (i use that instead of norton) and it said it was trojan. should i just try to run it anyway or what...
edit: i tried opening it from my downloads and here's what it brings up. pic below
Antivirus saying the package is malicious is perfectly normal. The 2 root exploits used in SuperOneClick are already identified as Android-based trojans in all modern antivirus softwares. If you downloaded from a trusted site, DISABLE your antivirus software and start the rooting process. When you're done, don't forget to turn it back on.

Now that you are rooted it is time for some awesome custom ROMs. There is cm11 you could try by going into the development page and downloading it. But before you flash make sure you have a nandroid back up and you go in this order if you want to run cm11.
Gingerbread, ice cream sandwich, jelly bean, jelly bean 4.3, then cm11. Make sure your recovery is updated when flashing different rims or it might come out as a herring.
Also you could just go straight to KitKat. If you want.

Go for the kernel route. Find a CWM'd kernel that supports your current version of stock ROM and flash that. ROM Manager performs badly even on supported devices so don't even think about it.
And... The risk of flashing a kernel/ROM is something you eventually have to get over if you want your device better

EDIT it's a .zip file. i think you need cwm to flash it. please tell me if i'm wrong. but i don't have cwm. so i think i might have to choose another kernel ??
also will flashing that kernel erase my third-party apps or app data??
and when i get this kernel on, will I be able to run cm11 on here or will i have to get a different kernel to run on that??
also i think this vid might be a good one. but he never says that he does a nandroid backup or anything

Yeah this kernel is CWM only, so no go. As far as Odin compatibility goes, no, the latest version won't always work with anything. Use Odin 1.8x if you can (mine is 1.85 for my Player 4.0 and Captivate, should be the same for Galaxy S-family devices).
Kernels don't wipe any of your data, though flashing a wrong kernel which causes bootloop may do.
After flashing the corresponding kernel, get into CWM recovery and start flashing CM or the ROM you want as per the instructions given in the ROM's post. All AOSP-based ROMs run different (and incompatible) kernels than stock so don't worry about kernels once you're in.

so what kernel should i get? it has to be a Gingerbread one right? since i'm still on stock gingerbread rom. should I use Entropy's Daily Driver? that would be the only other one, right?
and once i get a jellybean or a kk rom wouldn't it be a good idea to get a better kernel?? like one made for a kk or jb? would it be faster? but then i would have to switch kernels if i would for any reason want to go back to stock gb rom??

I have a Player 4.0 instead of a 5.0 so unfortunately can't help you with finding the right kernel. Yes it's best for stock Gingerbread, but if you find Froyo ones, they can also be used. Do note that you can't boot into Gingerbread with a Froyo kernel, so use its CWM to flash whatever you want immediately afterwards.
I don't know of any JB/KK custom kernels, and since Player's single core CPU has its limitations, a custom kernel won't make it much better. At least on my IncS, even overclocking to 1.6GHz won't help with KK eating up my resources.
GB, JB, KK - kernels for different versions of Android are usually not cross-compatible, so you *must* switch kernel if you want to fall back to GB.

thank you very much for your help. i was able to flash a custom kernel and get cwm. thanks you helped a lot
now i got the rom i was gonna flash downloaded it and extracted it. and i shouldn't have extracted it. then i was trying to flash it and i discovered i messed up. so i pulled the sd card out (which i had a complete nandroid backup on.) [the real mistake] and decided to start over. like, put the zipped files on the sd card. so i put the zips (unextracted) onto my micro sd but it can't mount the sd. so i think i'm like screwed. please help me
oh and when i boot all i see is the samsung logo, then it goes straight to cwm recorvery. I can also get into download mode. so I can get into cwm but my recovery is on my micro sd and it can't mount it. (i did a nandroid backup but it doesn't benefit me now. i also have to backup on my pc, but my pc doesn't wanna recognize it) did i brick it??
what i did...went into cwm wipe data/factory reset and wiped it. next > mounts and storage and clicked format system, and formatted it. then last i wiped dalvik cache. then i went to flash the rom (CM9) and it didn't flash. (because i had extracted it on the pc. it no longer was a .zip) don't know what i was thinkin' but yeah...
as of now i'm gonna start looking for threads to fix it.
i don't think samsung kies is working right either. :/ http://i.imgur.com/WV0iBPk.jpg
please help me unbrick it or whatever i need to do. only made one small mistake and now all this... :'( if you know anything about how to fix it pls reply. i need all the help i can get. thanks ...

Easy, bro. Does your current CWM recovery have a "sideload" option? Look for that either in the main menu or in the "install zip from sdcard" section. If you have that, then you could try sideloading a ROM directly from your PC to your device and it will flash automatically. For more instructions, just Google "ADB sideload".
If that doesn't cut it... Grab Odin and a stock GB firmware (these should be floating around in Dev section), flash that by Odin, and your Player gets returned to GB stock condition, where you can start over.

no it doesn't have a sideload option anywhere. i have odin. and for the firmware, doesn't it have to be in the .tar form for odin to flash it?? i'll check that out. btw thanks !!
but the computer doesn't wanna recognize my device. so how can i flash anything??
EDIT do you think i could flash my nandroid backup through odin?? it has .tar files and one .md5 file, but 2 that aren't. i'll post a screen shot. but if i flash each of the .tar files and the .md5 file via odin do you think it would work? that file is only a .md5 though and not a .tar.md5 so idk

No, nandroid backups won't be recognized by Odin. Just try finding a stock firmware out there. If you want your data back from your nandroid backup, you can always restore everything to normal first, then restore that nandroid and do whatever you please.
