Is there a way to move the text cursor back (without deleting text) when typing? My last phone had a trackball which let you do this, but the Optimus T (P509) lacks this useful button. Is there a back arrow on either the android or swype keyboard that I'm overlooking?
Thanks,
-Adam

The lg keyboard has cursor keys on the t9 layout. It would be nice to have a way to enable cursor keys in qwertz layout. Any ideas?

Thanks. I don't use the swype keypad; I like the android one. Is there a way to move the cursor with that?

You can click on the area on the textbox to move the cursor, which is incredibly difficult. I haven't seen other keyboards that have arrow keys on them, though.

Swype has always frustrated me, when you need to move forwards and backwards much in a text field, it is difficult to do with your finger and I could not find anything to help in swype.
All I had to do was hit the bottom left swype button and then slide to the symbol key right next to it. BAM, there it is. It's probably most helpful for copy and paste and some other situations where you just can't move the cursor with your finger.
Just an fyi, and also wondering if this was already common knowledge?

I wouldn't call it common knowledge, but it's been known for a while. I found out about it in a tips and tricks thread somewhere.
Also, try the same thing, but slide to "f" instead of "sym" to pull up a number pad

Are there more shortcuts?
-swype key then symbol key
-swype key then f
...more?

also, in 2.2, in text entry fields, if you tap the field a movable cursor shows up that you can slide left and right.
A lot of tips like these are in the General Sticky....
that said, I do not know if its a shortcut, but I love going from the apostrophe to "s".... I can type words like "what" and then with that gesture quickly make is "what's"
also, if "bump" from one letter to the next it helps swype identify the letter you are really going for (ie, you go across a row and there could be a few correct letters).
I take it that none of you had ever done the tutorial with swype on your phone...

Swype > F is the only one from this thread that is not on there.. and that is not all that much needed from using the other number pad.
Swype -> q switches it to AZERTY. It doesn't switch it back. Pretty useless.
These Swype shortcuts are all on the Swype website lol

To switch back, press and hold the top-left button (where Q used to be) and choose U.S. English. If you've picked Korean by accident, press and hold where the A button was to switch back to English.

Long tap on the text->select text?
I am after a better way of moving/controlling the cursor itself. Like time pointer in new Youtube App. I know Samsung S got sth like this.
Regards
Maybe some keyboards have that option, haven't found it yet.
use swype It has cursor keys etc built in for editing and selection etc
+1. You need to swype from the swype key (bottom left) to the sym key to pop up the direction controls.

Ok Getting tired of this.. I Hate HTC keyboard, but I love Gingerbreads.. However I hate the Fact that when I text someone or type its looks like this :
hello.this.is.a.test to. see what.happens
The Perioid is in the way or the spacebar needs to be bigger I cant decide? Anyone else have this issue?
I Tried using swype but I dont have the Patients for it. Its a great concept just not for me? Any Solutions out there?
Is there anyway to get the OG Droids soft keyboard layout on the Tbolt?
I don't know what's wrong with your keyboard but I'm typing this on gingerbread keyboard and its working fine. I don't have any issues with it. I have also used Swype but for some reason, lately it doesn't seem to figure out what I'm trying to swype so I switched to this keyboard and have been quite happy.

Download the gingerbread keyboard from the market. That's what I finally had to do. I had the same issues. Just the way I use the keyboard i guess.

I'm the same way. The only respite I've found is from using other keyboards from the market. Just look around and try some different ones, and find out which works best for you.
I found that if I make the settings key always hide and move the mic key to the symbols page it makes the spacebar a bit longer and easier to hit w/o touching the period. might be worth a shot for you guys.

Care to share? I'm not seeing it.
Settings > language & keyboard > gb keyboard > voice input
You also might want to try out swiftkey, as I haven't had any issues with it. It is leaps and bounds better than the stock keyboard.
is there a way to change the "done" button to "send" like in the regular froyo keyboard? annoying to have to press the "done" button and select "send" in the next screen.
UPDATE: Noticed this only happens in landscape mode. Regular view shows "send" key and "attachment key". what gives? is this a flaw in the app?

Nothing beats Swiftkey. Most ingenious keyboard around and works as well as advertised. I just don't like that sometimes it lags as it pulls predictions from my history. Maybe because I have so many SMS?
The trick with the mic and settings key (set to always hide) worked! Thanks. I like the GB keyboard for a change of pace.

This. And I hid the voice and settings buttons to make the spacebar bigger. But I am using swiftkey, its better in my opinion. The prediction engine is excellent and saves me from typing at all.

tap the text screen and the blue cursor arrow pops up, just move it and use back space
Hi,
Thanks for the revert mate.
That is the current mentod that I am also following up. But is there no solution, where word to the right of the cursor can be deleted?
Like you might have seen in Blackberry. And it works well on that platform.
Is that the petented technology and thats why not avaiable on Android?
Seniors - Plz advise/comment.

Anoop

afaik there is no other choice
Hi, this has been bothering me for a while so I figured I'd ask about it. Essentially, I want to remove the word 'yo' from the keyboard because I don't use 'yo' and I hate whenever it accidentally autocorrects to 'yo' when I type in 'you'.
I know how to add words to the dictionary, but I can't seem to find the option to delete pre-inserted words from the keyboard. Anyone know?
Sent from my Nexus 4.
On some keyboards; SwiftKey, you can press and hold on a word and it gives you the option to remove it from dictionary.
Try it, it might work on stock keyboard as well.

Nope. Unless I'm misunderstanding pressing and holding on a word just brings up the highlight prompt to copy/paste/etc.

Which keyboard do you use? Samsung or Android?
Go to empty space on one of your pages. Doesn't matter which page
Long press until list of options appears. Scroll/Select Shortcuts
Scroll down and select Settings
Scroll down and select User Dictionary. Edit as needed.
Click to collapse
You can also go into Settings > Language and input ( or Locale and text on some phones) > Samsung keyboard (or Android keyboard) > User dictionary. You can edit your words there.

As I mentioned before, depends on what keyboard you are using. The aforementioned solution was pertaining to SwiftKey only.
