[Q] Porting WM/WP7 to Android? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know you can port Android to WM, but is it possible to port WM6/WM6.5/WP7 to Android? Sorry in advanced if its been asked before but I can't find any info and I'd like some clarification.

I'm curious too..

me too.... please..

why on EARTH would you want to do this?

I'm pretty sure you can't because of the hardware requirements of WP7, also WM/WP7 are not open source, you need access to the source code in order to port something. In other words, it's very difficult and not exactly legal.

technically it can be done, it depends how much time you one has to invest in cracking wp7. I see no reason in running wp7 on an Android phone, besides bragging rights.
There is no easy way of installing wp7 on phones designed for something else for now...
looking at WP7 hardware requirements, and our phone, it just won't do..
why would you want WP when you have Android.
android is a heaven man, why you want to run WP on it?

WP7 possible on Android???

Hello,
Okay, so I know that people always ask, "why the h*** would you want windows phone 7 on an android phone?" But, I really like the simple UI, and I like the way the apps look and things like that, so with that said I have 2 questions:
1. Does a "WP7 rom" exist (like in the WP7 forums).
2. If so, is it remotely possible to even attempt to run it on an android phone?
I am just asking because the way I see it if WP7 can run on an HTC device, why could it not run on an ANDROID HTC device, with the rerouting of some software and things like that. I have a MyTouch 3G Slide (I know pretty old school) but I have already gotten it to do things that they said would not even be in the dreams of a MT3GS user! I am a novice software dev, but I am completely down to learn, 100% with no objections!
Thanks you guys,
Ognimnella

As far as i know, the only non-WP7 phone that can run WP7 is the aging HTC HD2. But i really don't know how far the development has come, so we may see some Android devices run WP7 in the future. Who knows! (Not me)
The wp7 rom is not open sourced so no devs try porting

So wait how have people been able to create WP7 like apps (Launcher7, Seven Calc, Photo Safari, WP7Contacts, etc.)

They rewrote the programs, these ports don't share source with the original wp7 versions. That's why the Android version of these programs work a bit different.

WP7

Is it possible to port Windows Phone 7 onto our little hero? I don't exactly know the required specifications for a device to run WP7, but surely it must be possible?
Bump

Wp is closed source and will therefore be (nearly) impossible to port. Hero doesn't have the specs needed either
sent with love from me to you
You could use launcher7 if you want, but a wp7 rom is unlikely.

Windows Phone on p500?

taken from the Nokia liveblog, their Lumia 610 will feature the same chip as ours*.
Could it be possible to port it?
*It's the 800MHz version but as we know from android it's compatible...
That would be cool

Don't you have enough on your hands than to add on to your burden of maintaining CM 7.2??
Just kidding.....
By all means, try doing it.... You have my best wishes.
really i don't think so bcoz it have Qualcomm 7x27A chips but it depend on mother board too.....
I know it'll be unlikely unless LG release a 7x27a windows phone too, its usually much easier to port from the same manufacturer!
But I can dream, I use launcher7 as my daily launcher...

Although it is likely than possible isn't one developer in the process of bringing to lg forums,a windows based rom. If I'm not mistaken I believe its based on cm9, cfjames ? Maybe that's wrong ? I'm not for or against anything new and it all sounds like a good idea but windows sucks anyhow....I'd still try the rom out, always down for testing bit as of right now my stock rom is blackbird v1.2-beta1 with LG home 2.3.4

It wont be impossible as long as its compatible armv6...
We have had a port of Optimus Net which was MSM7227T...
But for it, we need to work as a team... cuz we will need WP7 compatible bootloader... ryt now we can only boot android...
Also, it will be a pain is the a$$ due to lack of WP compatible system files etc..
Remember, theres no source available n thats gonna be tough...
I love Metro UI too..
I use Launcher 7 too, with WP7 Lock app...

IOS on O1, that would be cool!
And the CPU would be OK, the 1st iPhone was a 500MHz... iPhone 4 is at 800MHz(undrclocked)
Too bad they are closed source this is what sucks about apple

Really, a question: your ROM is windows mobile or a modded android?
If it boots and basic features (touchscreen) work, can I test it?(PM link) I don't care how buggy it is, just wanna test it:d:d:d
Sent from my LG-P500
Haha its an Android based rom definately! I don't think its posible at the moment to build a rom based off Windows 6.5-7.5 operating systems yet... its not openly sourced like Android.
(I'll compile the rest of my alpha build soon, just figuring out how to get it to boot now with my wifi and data fix ;s)

WM7 Rom on Neo ?

Hi All,
Is it possible that install windows 7 rom on neo ?
Very improbable.....:
Wm7 is proprietary closed software, even if you found one for similar hardware you wouldn't have the exact drivers, they would have to be written from scratch, which lets face it phones are obsolete within a year or two so can't really see anyone reverse engineering....
And before anyone mentions hd2 that was a windows phone that has android ported to it a completely different kettle of cats.

WP7 on Xperia Neo is a waste of good hardware,because,excepting UI,WP 7 is much weaker platform than Android.Trust me,i've worked 1 week with a Lumia 710,and it was horrible.If you want WP7 UI,you can install Launcher 7 from Market,MILocker with WP7 theme,zune player,wp7 contacts,messaging 7 and wp7 email,and you'll have a complete wp7 ui,with Android OS. This is how my phone looks like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264324&page=26

Totally agree with this... android is Open Source and hence can be worked on and ported to some devices.

Because android is open source it can be ported to other devices... However wp7, iOS, symbian are not open source so they cannot be ported.

100%
i dont know why we r having this topic in 1st place
Pretty improbable to happen. WM7 is not open source, so you would need to spend a lot of time (and probably money too...)
And just to remember that it is very difficult to a different system, such as the WP7 android on a device, fully functional, stable ... you will have many problems with incompatible ...
