I know this doesnt exactly belong in this forum but lets face it most of the topics in here arent since the bootloader is not hacked and everone is speaking hypotheticals. I know over in the droid x droid 2 forums ( droids with bootloaders) there are roms with no motoblur. What are the odds that well see that here for the atrix. Lets face it motoblur could be worse but there are some things like the gallery that should not have been messed with. If i could do any of this i would but i cant. Has anyone tried to contact anyone in those forums for support? They have had more time with motos version of android so im sure they have some insight. I bought this phone knowing i might not be able to flash custom roms but if we can get rid of most of moto blur this phone would be heading in the right direction.

I think with a deo rom, and root, you can sideload your own gallery, your own launcher, mod your keyboard, etc, and be almost 100% free of blur on your own...
imho..

Killster
It will happen one way or the other. Right now I believe folks are waiting for a leaked sbf or update.zip to be able to restore a dead phone. Even the source at opensource.motorola.com will be usefull once they release it. I have been working on a method. I have a custom recovery that inits from the default recoverys reboot option. But it does not work either cuz there is still signature checks on the bootloader. Btw there is custom roms for the backflip and the bootloader is still locked deblurred and such

Where can i find the right gallery apk for the atrix? I have tried a few and no luck....also do i need to use adb or can i just use root explorer

Hello
I'm thinking of getting an atrix
But have heard of a locked bootloader on Motorola devices what does this mean

there wont be any custom ROMs for the phone until someone is able to get past it without bricking theirs.. if you are not the kind to flash custom ROMs onto your phones, this probably wont affect you much.

The bootloader is what loads up the operating sytem in very simple terms. By locking or signing it, it means that we need to present motorola's certificate every time we want to load a custom ROM/kernel.
Though what he says is true, you can still root the phone, install pseudo-custom ROMs (they are all right here in the forums) and do tons of other things.
This is still a great great phone though and probably the best in the market in my opinion.

Hi guys
I have Atrix 4g from Bell Canada which rom should I used with it.
Thanks
There isn't one right now available right now unfortunately...
You can factory reset to get back to stock

the problem is that if ANYTHING goes wrong while developing the ROM, causing a soft brick (which can be done by loads of things, and is almost guaranteed to happen during development), there is no easy way (realistically no way at all), to recover from it. we have to wait until a retail .sbf gets leaked or released from bell before any real development using the system files can occur. Anyways, ROMs for the Atrix aren't really ROMs in the true sense of the words, merely heavy edits to the themes and cleaning up some bloatware.
In the meantime i recommend you go here, here, and here for now, those are the main things that can be done for Bell Atrix at the moment. make sure you read those threads thoroughly and understand what you're doing before you do it though.
Thanks guys
Is there any update about rom for Bell devices ?
There is a generic rom u can flash have a search around for it

is the bootload unlockable on a stock ota 4.5.9.1 atnt atrix? i am unclear from what i've read. i just want to unlock and start going to roms. is that possible or the 4.5.9.1 is stuck? the reason i ask is i want to start learning how to tweak stuff for myself and maybe others, and if goes well, i move on to bigger things, so this is my dev phone, if you will. i can't have a "beta" phone. i need reliability so another phone is called for.
Yes it is, I unlocked it with the with the automatic bootloader unlocker in the ATRIX 4g general thread by mramirezusa. Give that a look. Its not that complicated either to root with the tool too. If you FOLLOW directions, you wont brick your phone.

Overview:
This is basically a ROM I made when I was bored.
It is based off of Pepperm1nt's [ROM][GB 2.3.4]GingerBread Phone 7 v0.4
I replaced some of the apps with MIUI apps such as
MIUI launcher
MIUI Music
MIUI Browser
I am not sure this ROM will work or flash so flash at your own risk
I am not responsible for any damage to your phone. Use at your own discretion
How to install
Must be on 2.3.4 NOT 2.3.5
Install bootstrap
Reboot into bootstrap recovery
Wipe data/cache
Flash this ROM

Im sorry but ill be the first one to chime in. You're putting up a ROM you didn't test yourself?
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
Well judging by how he has written the description, it should flash, if all he did was replace apks from miui to this rom. However a test would help peoples feelings lol

This should work almost flawless. I've played with all three apps he added on Molten and they worked well. Should not be an issue. Just wondering but did you ask Pepperm1nt if it was ok to use his rom? No big deal if you did Something to play with, thanks.

Preciate about the info
It's fine to use the base. The OP needs updated to give pix of the ROM and thanks for clarifying where the base is from. Let me know if you need anything...

+1 on the screen shots. Has anyone tried to flash this yet? I find it strange the person that made the rom didn't flash it before posting.

Am I the only one who was disappointed to realize that this is not an AOSP ROM?
I mean the title is misleading. I thought that this is the first fruition of 2nd init to make AOSP roms.
That's because gbp7 is not aosp based.....

was it just me or did it not let anyone else past the 'account' page? it wouldnt take me to my home to where i could set up my recovery so i had to sbf, so nice try OP, but i recommend you take this and base it off your own rom and get to familiar with the android system so you can take this and and make it your own

This is only GBphone rom + the MIUI launcher look alike and locker + other look alikes.
Sounds a little weird. No pics of screenshots or even tested? Based off someone elses rom without even asking first. Althoug he did give proper credit and did not try to act like it was his own. I appreciate all development for this phone but have to admit this is a first for me to see The OP even states not sure if this will work lol. Does not give you that warm fuzzy feeling and anxious to flash something new.

Gives me the warmest feeling of being excited to be the first to flash something Although not everyone is comfortable doing an SBF.

I dont mind doing a sbf. Did plenty when I was getting to eclipse 2.02 when I had root keeper on my phone I do not mean to bash anyone it is just weird the OP says he is not sure if it will work. Also the title I thought was a little misleading thought this was a MIUI rom.
Seems odd to complain about someone cooking up a new option for a phone with so little support. Regardless of the nature of that option, or what you experienced on another phones dev thread.
Thanks Jay, though I wont be using your work its nice to see people working with the x2. And incorporating miui apps / miui lookalike apps is a neat idea for miui fans who can't flash it due to a pesky locked bootloader.
And, I know none of you fine folks intended to come off as ungrateful or complainy (its my word don't steal it ). Its easy for things to be misinterpreted, between thinking about what you want to post, posting, and someone else reading your post with none of the vocal expression you had in mind.

Remember the HD2 days and other random "high end" devices with dual boot capabilities? Now obviously the photon is one of the top phones out right now and it would be amazing to be able to boot into a rom of my choice without going through nandroid. A true multi boot. Cm9 is my daily rom but sometimes I miss miui which was my daily on my x10 and the occasional gingerbread. But as you all know cm9 is still in beta with random issues. Like for example, video recording and video chat(flaky). So to be able to switch to a miui rom or a stable gingerbread rom withen seconds just from a simple reboot would be fantastic. I remember reading an article on the xda portal that the dual boot days have not got the light it deserves and I think its time to bring it back. If there are any devs on the photon forum willing to tackle this and show progress I will donate a reasonably good amount as I'm sure others will too.

Well I know when I was on the Evo a lot of people used Boot Manager for booting multiple roms at once. It doesn't look like the Photon is one of their supported devices right now, so you may want to email the developer.
Market link
The developer of the boot manager finally emailed me back and pretty much doubts support for the photon. He says the photon does not allow the app permission to use the boot partition. Could someone with better knowledge of this please explain? And will the photon ever allow access to the boot partition or is it just the way it was designed

Sounds like the developer isn't aware our bootloader has been unlocked. /boot houses the bootloader and the kernel. You need an unlocked bootloader to write to it, hence why you need to be unlocked to flash a kernel (boot.img). Using the same logic, that's why none of the roms for locked phones have a kernel.
I've never used the tool in question but I'd reply back and see if the above info affects the compatibility.
I messaged him back about that and this is his response.
" The bootloader on the photon is unlocked but it's not fully open. I could be wrong because we've tested many phones but I beleive when we tested on the photon we could not dump the boot.img or flash a new one while the phone was booted. It had to be done from recovery. We've released a lite version of the app that you can download from free and put in your devices variables and see if the phone setup will work(That tries to make a backup of the current boot.img on the device for later use) but would tell us if the app had access. We had this issue with some of the other moto phone's with unlocked bootloaders such as the Atrix."
