What color is the recovery you're seeing? If it's red, then apply update.zip and it should reboot into orange which is 3.0. If it's green try flashing through Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
That orange one is crap. Stick with red for the time being IMO.

This is the one you want. The voodoo red version is the one that works. The orange version doesn't actually work. Sure the edify scripts are pretty cool, but after trying to use it to flash anything, orange cwm is buggy. Wait for jt and co. to tweak it for us. No offense against koush, but he just makes generic cwm that doesn't do all the necessary functions that we need such as battery stat wipe and others.
Here is a good way to determine if cwm orange is useful. Wait for adrynalyne to recommend it. He's been extremely faithful to help fix phones and with development.
Also, orange is not needed until gingerbread which we are waiting on sammy to do a code drop on us.

Asking for help = belongs in General. From what I've read so far, this thread has next to no relevance to development.
It actually belongs in Q&A, which we have now Moved.
felt the need to throw my .02 in. the "red" recovery looks orange to me, anyone feel this way or are my eyes dumbtarded?

There seems to be a bit of confusion on what recovery we should be using. Most threads indicate CWM 3.x
This post is often referenced as the most current recovery for our needs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13128524&postcount=1
It can be seen being referenced here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14892705&postcount=1
Then there is this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14940474&postcount=202
I have not seen many references to CWM 4.x recovery. Is this for gingerbread roms?
Please understand I am not trying to "shake the bees nest" or anything. I just want to make sure we are doing things correctly. I have been doing some research since the above post was made and have come up with conflicting resulsts, looking for clarification. Thanks.
I sent ti a pm asking about this myself - still waiting to hear back.

when I downloaded this, it was recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.8-fascinate, so what is 4.x about it? My recovery is the yellow 3.2.0.0 - any available upgrade?
i dunno, it said "CWM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v4.0.0.1 " in the description. Mine is yellow also, works for all the roms I've tried.

So I guess we can assume that 4.x is fully backwards compatible with older roms?
I just don't understand how we could be snipped at for not using CMR 4.x when it is not even on his own recovery page (or widely referenced anywhere else).
Don't half tell us something then not back up your claims. It seems this stupid GB leak did nothing but make people crabby! (from day one)
I'm on CM7 with CWM4. I would think CWM3 is fine with TW roms if it still flashes everything and last I know it did. If CWM4 was something you should have there would probably be posts for it in the dev section.

I guess I'd have to look into it but I didn't know of any major differences such as those between CWM2 and 3. So I don't know why it would be a huge deal to use CWM3 if I figure anything out I'll post.
CWM 3.0 may be responsible (but probably isn't) for the sd cards being borked by some of those who've flashed the EC09 GB leak or the early ROMs based on it. That might be why times_infinity made his dinosaur post. That said, it's more likely that the SD card issue is strictly an EC09 issue having nothing to do with which recovery you use. I suggest going on IRC to find your answers (I think either #samsungfascinate or #teamsbrissenmod or maybe #tsm).

The idiot needs help (that's me). Does anything need to be done to the files after download? I assume you can't just flash the .zip, it couldn't be that simple.
First of all, amazing work on the rom, its the best out there. My only problem is my wifi wont even connect? It says wifi error. I installed the latest version. Before that, I did superwipe, then all the other wipe part and then did a clean install. Still no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

LOL~! up the font and link the kernel flasher 2 thread too for the lazies! LAWL too funny
This is just a link to CM9 over in the OG GS2 Developer forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410400
THIS IS NOT NOOB FRIENDLY
IF YOU HAVE TO ASK, YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE DOING THIS.
MAKE A BACKUP THROUGH CWM
Download the ODIN files from the linked thread
Copy Google Apps and Face Unlock zips to SD Card
Reboot into Download mode
Flash the ODIN files (warning::: this flashes a ICS bootloader) -- Edit, try without flashing bootloader first. It's safer.
Reboot into Recovery
Flash Gapps and Face Unlock zips
Do a factory reset (yes, AFTER installing everything)
Reboot
Set up your phone
Reboot again
PLAY AROUND FOR A WHILE
Restore backup to go back to whatever you were using before
If something confuses you, this probably isn't for you and you should wait for a i777 version of the ROM to be availible (it won't take long, please wait and save all of us from DIS ROM BRICK MAH FONE threads).
Things that don't work:
Everything listed on the CM9 Alpha page +
Home Button = Back Button & Back+Search buttons do not work
Phone does not work (and flashing the RIL in the CM9 thread will not fix this == it's a kernel problem)
This isn't my work, I'm linking and providing instructions on how to flash an ALPHA ROM. The phone DOES NOT work!
I'm not affiliated in anyway with Team Hacksung or Cyanogen.
You don't have to flash the ODIN files, just use the CWM zip he provided.

You must have already had an i9100 bootloader.. the install script he provides with his cwm release specifically looks for the model number.. flashing i777 roms don't so you may not have noticed up until mnow.
Just remove the first two lines in the script and it won't check.
edit: I've always been very careful and have never flashed any bootloaders on this phone. Just to clarify I didn't have to edit the script on this one though, but i have on others in the past.

There were changes to the bootloader from froyo to gingerbread on the i9000 that the rom depends on, so one can assume there to be similar bootloader changes. It's probably best to wait for Atin to give us some proper information and/or a build for the i777 after the holidays.

Don't ever use ROM manager. Ever.
Read the stuff linked in the sticky at the top of this forum. And I mean read *all links*. They'll show you how to mod your phone safely and teach you the ins and outs of modding an SGH-I777, and keep you from bricking your device. Once you've read everything (and please read carefully! reading more than once may help), if you don't fully understand anything after that feel free to ask questions.

I know it's not always the fastest option, but searching for an answer that you're not sure of really is the best way to learn. The more familiar you become with the search tool and which terms you need to find your answers, the easier it'll be for you here. Not trying to be a **** at all, just letting you know. Rom Manager had been known for a long while now as being buggy and unstable for our device. Not saying it doesn't work for other devices extremely well, but our kernels come packaged with CWM, which is different from most phones, as you can normal flash a recovery separately from the kernel.

I made the ROM Manager mistake
I didn't see the warnings about using ROM Manager until it was too late.
Now here's the weird thing that happens (big problem!). As soon as I read the warning, I uninstalled ROM Manager and flashed a new kernel and did a factory reset. This should have wiped ROM Manager from my SG2, but it didn't. When I go into CWM Recovery mode, the ROM Manager icon (the circular arrow with the hat) appears at the center of the screen. When I try to execute a command in CWM, whether Wipe data or Install from SDcard, the screen goes black except for that icon. Nothing happens. The only way to reboot is to pop the battery. The phone works fine with Gingerbread and the phone is rooted, but I want to be able to flash an ICS ROM from xda.
Somehow, some aspects of ROM Manager remain on my phone.
Any ideas on how to get rid of it?
Thanks in advance.

Read here and here and then choose which is best for you.
This is an old issue with Passion and had been discussed in that thread many months ago. I am sure if you searched the thread, the answer would have *eventually* pooped up but with that many posts, it would take all day to do so.
That being said, Passion is extremely outdated (still 4.0.3) and I suggest upgrading to a different ROM (4.0.4 variant). There was vast improvements from Google with the newer version, plus Passion isn't really supported anymore.

Yes and no. You can preserve you app data, browser links, SMS/MMS, Launcher Setting,...through Titanium Backup and then restore the DATA part later. I capped that so as to warn you not to restore the /system/apk (only restore the data on the Green highlighted /system/apps in TBPro).
Yes I did link you to the I9000 section bc those are what you want. All it is is a script that converts your /data/data to /datadata. AKAIK, all the newr ICS ROMs already do this, hence why I suggested you get out of the outdated ROM. ICZen does this on install already btw>
Thanks.
And to confirm, I would only have to install the ICZen ROM right? It states that the subzero kernel is included. ( I saw your name on there, so I thought I'd ask)
Yes it is included. Install instructions are similar to most every other ICS ROM out there except for the additional WIPE.
Steps
-Download ICZen and place it on your internal sd
-Reboot to Clockwork Recovery
-Perform a wipedata/factory reset
-Go to mounts and storage and format the system partition
-Flash your downloaded ICZ rom file
-From the main menu of recovery, perform a wipedata/factory reset again <--THIS IS THE SECOND WIPE I AM TALKING ABOUT
-Reboot
-On bootup, give it a few minutes to settle in, reboot and use as normal.
-Enjoy your ICZen!
