[Q] Uninstalling UrukDroid 0.7 - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After fooling around with UrukDroid 0.7 (installed to the internal storage), I've decided that I would like to go back to the stock Archos FW. How would I go about doing this?

You could just delete the partitions or you could completely wipe the Tablet from the boot menu.

Didn't think it would be that easy. I had a little hiccup when I saw the UrukDroid splash on the first boot and it had to rebuild rootfs, but now it seems to be working fine.

just out of curiosity: why did you decide to go back to stock rom? i'll get my 101 in a few days and i'm still deciding whether to install uruk or not.
and another question: so you can just revert to the stock rom without any traces of custom rom being installed? i thought if you once installed sde from archos there's no going back to stock state and you can kiss your warranty goodbye???
thanks!

The SDE gives you the option to boot stock OR the dev environment, it does not remove the stock rom.

ok, thanks. but doesn't the installation of sde itself void the warranty? or could you go back to the stock rom from uruk, uninstall sde and let's say return the malfunctioning unit under warranty and archos wouldn't know you had sde installed? sorry for my "android-ignorance", i've been a years-long user of wm phones/handhelds and this will be my first android device ...
thanks
p.s.
nevermind, i found this on the archos page:
# Once the SDE firmware is installed on a device, this device will be watermarked and ARCHOS will be able to detect that this firmware has been installed once.
# Installing the SDE firmware is considered by ARCHOS as a voiding of the warranty and ARCHOS declines all liability and responsibility for any issues resulting from the installation of this SDE firmware.
so, if i understand correctly, once you've installed sde, you can never make a warranty claim of any kind, even if you've uninstalled sde and it's a hardware error or malfunction of the unit?
thanks

I.E, do I work without worrying that my NC is already rooted?
I would like to revert if possible, to update the framework to 1.1, cause I think it enhances the wireless connection, then root again with CM7. Is that a good idea? If so, how do I revert?
Rooting is only required if wish to open up the stock ROM to install other applications. CM7 does not root your device, it's a completely new operating system.
If you want to install CM7 you don't need root access as the NC boots from the uSD slot first.
I went from rooted 1.0.1 Stock to CM7 without any problems. I don't think the 1.1.0 update affects CM7 at all, as it's a completely separate ROM so there isn't really any need to install it. You can go straight to CM7.
Thank you for the informative post.
I have a problem now. I want to revert my nook color from the image I mentioned above. I can't.
I followed /showthread.php?t=922870 on this forum, but it doesn't work for me. What could I do?

Whats the easiest way to restore back to stock?

My g tablet has 2 dead pixels on it and while I still have a 2 week warrenty with office depot I want to return it and get another one. But I am running gingerbread and I need to get it back to stock. Everything is working fine except those pixels. So is there a way to use clockworkmod to install the stock rom? I know people use NVFLASH but is that necessary since my tablet is still responsive to everything. Thanks,
Here's the link to the instructions.

Another way is to flash using clockwork mod with the original roms. My notes below:

These were grabbed fromover-the-air update. They are full recovery
images that wipes everything except the user data.
To use this with a vanilla recovery, you need to rename the file
to update.zip, copy it to the root of /sdcard, and also create a recovery
folder with a file called "command" (see the 1.00 release for that file).
When you run recovery, the command file will direct recovery to run
the update.zip to update the system. OR
YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SELECT THE ZIP WITH CWM RECOVERY MENU.

When you flashed it with a different firmware, you voided your warranty.

You seriously think they can tell the difference at Office Depot ?! Even if he just took it without re-flashing it ?

It's the principle of it. You know going into it that flashing alternate firmware voids the warranty.
Doesn't anyone have any morals anymore?

No. People open their devices and break them and return them. It wasn't their fault they broke the cable. People don't read instructions and soft brick their devices and return them. It wasnt their fault the firmware was horrible. I have ASUS Transformer on order. When it gets here I'm rooting it (and yes if I bork it I will buy another) and wiping XDA from my browser history. It may just be this device device but I don't believe I have ever seen so many people willing to purposely void their warranty and then expect the manufacturer to replace what they have screwed up. I think its goodintentions who keeps saying....."Buy an iPad2". Thats my recommendation from now on as well.

What does morals have to do with this ?!?
Does your morals tell you he should suck up a defective display because he changed the software running on his device ?!?
And no, in principle flashing alternate firmwares doesn't void the warranty "UNLESS" you break your device doing so, if you consider running code on the hardware an alteration then installing any software from "gmarket" or "amazon app store" voids your warranty.
Warranty doesn't cover malfunctions caused by user alterations, how does dead pixels related to custom roms is beyond me.
I successfully restored it to the original rom and exchanged it. They never even opened the box. Just said here you go and have a nice day.

[Q] how to entirely go back to stock?

hi everyone,
Like you guys probably noticed I´m a new member here at xda.
I just got my new phone, it´s a Galaxy gio .
So anyway, i´d like to root, flash a kernel and put a custom rom on the phone,
but my concern here is, what happens if I have to send it back to the store, will they take it back and accept my warranty if they found out i have been tampering with the software?
SO I´ve figured this out:
Action >> Go back to stock
root >> unroot available
flash custom kernel >> ???
flash custom rom >> flash stock firmware ???
I probably will not use a custom recovery since i found out it´s actually very hard to go back to stock.
So my main question is,
Will flashing stock firmware give me an stock rom, and will this also give me an stock kernel?
if not, what actions should I take if I want to have my stock kernel?
and, did anyone send their phone back to the store with something custom on it, did it void your warranty?
thanks anyway,
the gentleman.
i´ve read a bit about the subject and found out that if i flash the stock firmware this will mean both the rom and the kernel will be stock again.
Is this right?

Yes, flashing your stock rom will return your device to stock (including the kernel). If you root your device, then your warranty is voided (but they don't have to know ). If you are returning it under warranty, make sure your device is back to stock or impossible to turn on (drown it ).
Bump..
Hey guys I need to find out how to get my coby kyros 7022 back to stock. I know how to get superuser gone but i cannt get the stock recovery to flash. i have the dumped stock recovery, but I dont have a clue as to how to install it. any tips?

Another good way is get an aftermarket charger, cut the end off, expose the wires and stick them into your charging port. Easy way to fry the motherboard!

[Q] Udo all changes for warranty

HI,
I used the search but could not find anything about this topic also I'm pretty sure there has to be someone who posted about this before.
I have some battery issue with my gen 8 101 and want to send it in for warranty. I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with urukDroid which I'm using since I got the tablet a year ago. Anyway... I want to ask if there is a How-To for undoing all changes so Archos doesn't claim the warranty to be voided. I'm not sure if there is a way Archos might not recognise that I rooted and installed custom ROM but I'm pretty sure that this would be easier than to argue with them about if the custom ROM destroyed my battery or not...
thx 4 your help
Using:
UrukDroid 1.6 (installed on internal memory)
rooted with SDE from Archos + EasyInstall 1.5 from UrukDroid
http://code.google.com/p/urukdroid/wiki/Installation
If you installed the SDE your device is watermarked and you can't remove that.
But there are no known incidents where Archos has claimed that.
Thanks!
1. Since the Watermark is only in the software I think it shold be possible to remove it. It's not like the HTC unlocker where you have to give them your phones hardware id
2. As it is most likely to be very hard to remove the watermark I'll try and just flash stock ROM. I hope you're right and I won't be the first 'incident'.
No, it's not in software, they write it to an internal hardware component.
I'm pretty sure was long as you didn't brick it with SDE, Archos will accept it. I know someone here got the digitizer replaced and they used SDE.
Installing the SDE modifies something in the bootloader and the DRM keys are wiped (they probably do this to avoid key extraction and cloning via custom FW).
But, like they said, no one with a hardware issue came back telling they got their warranty service denied due to SDE installation.
Probably more a Cover Y A thing to avoid warranty replacement of bricked units.
There are no DRM Keys in the Gen8.
You might be talking aout Gen7
Thx again. But I now just have to ask: Do you recommend to wipe and install stock Rom? Or is it okay if I just leave UrukDroid installed? I can't find my Nandroid backup at the moment so it basically I wanted to:
1.enter recovery mode.
2.Try to follow this path and reformat my device.
3. Then do a fresh install of the firmware.
Is this the right way?
Sorry to ask those lame questions but I don't have much time at the moment for trying
As there is no nandroid, you can't have a backup, so yes that's the way to go.
Alright Archos send me a Mail today that they replace it and a new 101 G8 is on the way to me.

[Q]for surdu_petru How to Undo things?

Since, for whatever reason, Archos seems to refuse to provide anyway to ever go back to older firmware versions...
I followed surdu_petru's instructions on how to install an UN-official SDE after the mess Archos made with their 4.0.25.
That all went well, and I could install his "stock" Archos 3.2.80, his "stock" Archos 4.0.7, and even tried several of his other custom ROMs.
Found I had to do a total re-format to get rid of the Apple screen crash animation of one of them though to get back to normal, but now here's my REAL question:
Just what do I have to do after all of that to actually revert back to a totally clean stock system with no traces of any of that stuff left behind?
In other words, how do I totally clean things up in case I need to send it back to Archos or if I want to sell it to someone else?
I know I can go into Recovery and re-format it, and also remove SDE, but does that really remove ALL TRACES of having been rooted and the other ROMs I've installed? Or, do I need to use ADB to clean things up, and if so, just what ADB commands should I use?

Hi!
You can clean your device 100% if you have not installed officialy SDE.
SO, go back to un-officialy sde, remove sde, format system- reformat device and copy official Archos firmware 4.0.26 .aos and flesh it!
Good luck! :good:

So, I should first boot into SDE and select remove sde and then come back into recovery to reformat, and then install the official Archos .aos. That will remove ALL traces of all of the other rooting and custom ROM stuff I have tried out correct?
After the mess with the Archos 4.0.24 and 4.0.25 firmwares, my only hope to ever get back to 4.0.7 was by following your instructions to use ADB to install the un-official SDE. A REALLY HUGE THAN YOU for those instructions and especially for posting the Enable_SDE.zip file. That made things real easy!
And, i did not even need to install the Google SDK at all (that is mentioned in many places otherwise).
I just put the tablet into developer mode, installed the ADB USB Windows driver (from the Archos website), downloaded and extracted your Enable_SDE.zip file, and then followed the rest of your instructions to then install your stock 4.0.7 rooted. I only had 2 minor problems...
I had to work around some odd stuff with the way the ADB USB Windows driver installs. Was just another of Window's odd quirks with that.
The other problem was the reboot after adb pushing the rooted firmware. My G9 tablets do not seem to catch the volume button being held in with a reboot. Works better to do a shut down at that point instead. Then it does catch the volume button being held in on a fresh start up to get into SDE to copy the 2 kernel files onto the device.
Again, many, many thanks for all of your help and hard work!
