Hi every one.
I'm on a decision whether to lose the future on SE android Phones or gain it on other Android phones like Samsung, HTC or Motorola via their OS Updates.
I think ARC,Pro,Neo and play will have the same destiny like X10 and after sometime there will be no OS updates.
Thank the xda developers to port newer ROMs to x10 but one of the important parts of x10 never worked fully till now and that is its CAMERA!!!!!
Now, What's your Opinion about the Future of SE Smart Phones?
I apologize for my poor English

I think your wrong. SE have learned there leason about being late with OS updates and there new devices will be a different story than the X10 was.
As for decisions, you gotta make that yourself....whatever you think will make you happy.
I, myself will be getting the Arc....and that will most probably be my last android device....im going to move on over to WP7 soon enough. Gotta wait and see what Nokia has in store for it.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
I have tested HTC hd7 for a week and it got some advantages but i think android will be more powerfull than WP7. Somehow i hope SE keep supporting its new phones. The repetition of this mistake will cause losing customers and suffer the lovers.

Actually that depends, no company would go updating their phones all the way to the latest firmware update, like X10 they'll probably give 1-2 major firmware updates to the Arc few months after the firmware is released by Google, then leave it and release new phones. Reason why I think so is because from my point of view, SE is all about visual perfection, if the UI doesn't look good they'll tweak it till they're happy (thus the delay).
I myself will wait for Google's next Nexus (if any), mainly because there are more support there than any other android phones.
I like Sony Ericsson. They make good looking hardware. my contract ends in about a year, so i'll probs get to get the next lot
NOT EVER SONY (any product period)
Motorola Atrix as soon as I can get my hands on it AND the dock station. Experience with the Xperia left me never willing to own or purchase another Sony product EVER, in fact I sold my PS3 since owning it as the IBM Cell processor is no longer useful, for the same reasons the entire Xperia line from x1 to Play.. DRM junk!
These guys have even been sued over the crap, sued themselves over the subject and continue to underwhelm and disappoint. Never again Mr Sony!
Innovation ended with the Walkman. Sony have no vision or ability to grasp open source software and have no place in Android.
my contract is not up for another year...even though i like sony unsure if i will get another one or not - and not because of all the broken promises etc
i am not an "sony fan" or "Nokia fan" etc...i will see what phones are out at the time and see whats best
Lol I love when people say sony learned their lesson... If they did then why not fix their mistake and upgrade x10 once more before ditching it? Isn't fixing your mistake part of learning your lesson? I know I'm going to get a lot of lame excuses in response to this as usual...

I never once said I didn't like the x10 ever.. I love it. I just don't like sony's lack if support and the way they're handling this situation...
hahaha for me i like the design of ****ing SE but the way they leave the OS ?ahh im forwarding to last SE of ARc if they gonna leave again .this is the last sE to buy with... curently X10 user.. im luky the XDA or developers are here to felp us lol
Liked the x10, would buy another Android SE only If x10 would get further upgrades at least till HW would be capable to handle it otherwise No way.
just because my x10 is sim unlocked imma kep using it for a while
but my next option could be an optimus 3d or an inspire 4g or an atrix (although motoblur is not of my likes)
still will be with android cause wp7 is kinda buggy from what I read xD
there might be a chance of getting an arc just cause it looks so damn fancy but will depend on the money XD

Decisons are best made on informed choice. Yes the experience with SE Android debut was (is) frustrating. They could have handled issues with updates better but if their products (software side especially) then I will use my head as well as my heart. Of course SE should realise if you treat your clients shabbily, you drive them into your competitors embrace!
When i bought the x10 i thought that SE may have done the right thing..
But after a year of fighting and arguing SE has now decided to repair my phone.
I am not going to be robbed again, the x10 is no marvel
and yes SE may have sorted out their firmware distribution,
they are still no longer making quality hardware!
SE used the x10 product line and clever marketing to smear the
horridly planned and badly designed phones on the un-expecting public.
So in my eyes... they fail and this will be the last SE and SONY product i buy.
Sony and SE is taking the piss for the cash.
I think the ARC,NEO,PRO & PLAY = crap.. the hardware is already outdated!
Plus sony loves to remove stuff from the firmware in consoles and devices.
Screw them in the ear.
Money hungry pigs.

Actually, X10 is not too bad, just no more OS update. For me, I wouldn't like to spend too much on phone so I'm going to stick a while with X10.
But if u would preferred to get latest firmware all the time and have budget, I reckon HTC.
Cheers.

As you know, The usage of these Smart phones depends on their OS, because of their software improvements. for new apps you will need android 2.2 or 2.3 or higher and then our x10s will be outdated but if you have galaxy s you will have all official advantages of new androids. I think firmware upgrades are free.
I posted several months ago that if SE stuck the X10 on 2.1 then there was like a 5% chance that I would go with another SE (65% chance if 2.2, 99% for 2.3). Considering that they've stuck the X10 on 2.1 (cmon, almost all new system type apps require 2.2 like gmail and all the bug fixes 2.2 brings) it's very unlikely. I may do the Optimus 2X... camera looks decent.
And for those that say SE has learned their lesson, I'm calling BS.
They've done this with EVERY other smartphone they've released.
They release a smartphone with a lot of promises and statements of the lessons they've learned from past smartphones ONLY to do the same thing.
Vivaz, Vivaz Pro, Satio, Xperia X1, Xperia X2, G700, G900, etc.
'Time flows like a river and history repeats' -some quote...
Well, i have always been a fan of SE, and i would still buy their phones, but the way they handled/are handling the x10 issues has made me consider other phones like samsung or htc.
If you want updates to your phone, you shouldn't stay with SE, because as they said about the x10 "We have decided to not step up beyond 2.1 since we believe that 2.2 won't enhance the user experience enough."
and that's gonna happen again.

According to what I have been reading in this forum and X10-related sites, people expect SE to pack the latest technology into their flagship phones. I used to think of it this way too but unfortunately after having the X1 and X10 the experience was disappointing Then I questioned myself whats the true reason I bought them
The look
Yeap any SE phones that you can think of right now, their design is always outstanding. This is the image the company is trying to create to the public; to win the beauty award among competitors in market. If you want to buy a slick-looking phones your best bet is SE, they're damn good at it. People like good looking stuff that is why their phones still sell. But as a practical person you know looks aren't everything. SE's target market are probably the youngsters, who change their phones more frequent than other age ranges.
In a stereotypically point of view, SE phones are blondes.
So if SE has never had the intention to create a cutting-edge phone, its not their fault. If you're an X10 user who are currently not happy with how SE isn't doing a good job on the hardware/software department and keep up with the updates etc, blame yourself for not being able to get passed the look of the phone.
After seeing xperia phones' performance, it has become pretty clear to me that SE phones are not the choice for people who like to keep up with the latest technology and expect high performance from their phones. And SE are also not the best listener who will change their plan to meet our demands, because that is not the company's goal. As long as SE are still selling their phones it's very unlikely that they will repositioning themselves on the market.
Personally SE phones are now out of my list. They simply aren't future-proof enough and eol too quickly.
the new xperia Arc is pretty good
thumbs up.
Since part of it is Sony, I expect a good multimedia player. In fact, this is why I chose her instead of Google Nexus One.
I did extensive research and found out that the music player wasn't really that good
And when I saw Mediascape, I told myself she's the one for me!
Granted, the absence of an equalizer control is abit of a disappointment, but well, you win some, you lose some =/

Exactly, if I'm not mistaken it was the first android phone which has the most customized and best looking media player.
SE's designing department rarely fails
Yeap. A blonde, but I've dyed her brunette with XDA
I'm completely satisfied with her as it stands now. An official 2.2 would be a great addition but no sweat if it never arrives. The JiT patch + xRecovery + other tweaks have gotten my X10 to places I never had thought possible. I don't give 2 flips if my mate's Galaxy S scrolls smoother [laugh] or another mate's Desire has dozens of custom ROM's - the Xperia's physical looks and overall UI is what I picked her for - for the rest there's XDA.
That's my story.
The Hardware of X10 or Arc is good the Problem is only the Software. A X10 or Arc with Software from someone here created like zdzihu, jerpelea and all and this would be the best Phone becouse nice Desings, good Hardware and the difference to SE very good Software! The Arc has latest Software so dont know if it sucks or not but the Software on X10 withouth JIT+Root sucks.

That's what really scares me. SE loves to customize their products so that it looks even more like their own creation. That is why SE will not launch any WinMo7 phones since it doesn't allow customization.
X1 was my first SE. I signed a really expensive contract for it which i do not need because i was so drawn into the beauty of that thing. After learning my (1st) lesson I was willing to give SE another go, I bought it upfront so that I can easily move on to another brand if it does not live up to my expectation again.
Well again the x10 didn't live up to my expectation, but at least my wallet didn't go hay-wired this time

I dont know how good is the hardware but its probably not good enough. That spec already existed in some phones thats launched last year. Sure many people would say the duo core is over-rated and 1ghz is more than enough but we're still in the 1st month of the year. If this year mobile phone is all about duo cores, arc will again miss out a lot of latest apps
No App will require more then 1GHZ, this would be crazy. And when Dual Core turns Mainstream SE will have the Arc successor out already with Dual Core. Not even all PC Programs did use a Quad Core and Quad Core is out for many years so i dont think all new Apps will require a Dual Core now.
I thought we could create a thread dedicated to the upcoming new android version regarding the Xperia mini/mini pro and Ray.
Maybe here we could gather information about release dates, user interface thoughts and ideas, features etc.
Sounds like a good idea?
Peace

I somehow think that Sony might pull a "We believe our stock 2.3 rom is the best ever. We see no reason to update" like they did with their older phones, and save it for their 2012 range.
Yeah possible, but then again they have stated that all the 2011 models will get ICS, and hopefully they have learned from the disaster with the X10.
But after spending some time searching the forums I'm starting to think that your scenario is pretty possible, sadly...

Yes, I think the same My second phone is x10 mini pro and SE end support his on Android 2.1. Reason? Thats the best for this hardware. Now I have alternative rom an android 2.3.7 and it work faster like stock rom 2.1 Thanks for devalopers from xda.
hopefully
if they dont release it for 2011 xperias , hopefully the epic cool devs here will, as a custom rom
i'm an x8 user and they had me stuck on 2.1 and if they ever do this again to me ( i plan to get the xperia mini pro ), idk then next time i'm buying a phone i will consider that SE is invisible and have no existence in planet earth anymore lol , regardless of what so ever "super cool" looking handsets they might have available at the time......

I'm quite confident that it will come, eventually. Don't hold your breath on when exactly that will be, though I'm sure CM will beat them to it.
SE firmwares are somewhat backward compared to firmwares provided by samsung or htc in their devices. (eg. No smart dialing in my mini pro). And the timescape UI lacks many features (I don't need five home screens, but can't change it). I hope they will improve such minor details in forthcoming updates.

I wouldn't count on SE upgrading our phones anymore. Even the Cyanogenmod team was not able to release a properly working 2.3 ROM for our phones
I love to see when SE would actually do that.
Maybe when the new xperia models will be getting ICS around the time they are already short of their first year's?
The nexus one not getting ics is worrying me. Google should know Android the best, yet they can't make an ics update for the nexus one. And what is our hardware compared to the nexus one?.sure, it could be for marketing reasons to get people to upgrade. But I'm still worried.

The Xperia X10 MINI and MINI PRO came out last year. And Sony Ericsson say they support officially their phones 2 years after purchase. We are not talking about the X10. And we don't care you bought a new phone to come and rub it in our faces.
While development is still active for our devices I see no reason to upgrade.
I'd say give it a few months and we may see a port for our devices.
And if not then I'm not fussed' having 2.3 is a privalige itself to say SE support only 2.1
Any word yet on a solid release date for ICS on the Xperia S?

I totally get what you say, but you don't want to wait for ages to put an outdated but optimized OS on your phone? I hope for some BETA tester ROM release from Sony on Xperia S forum as well.
I'm not sure we have to wait all that much longer...
They said it can be end of March/early April, I would assume they would try and release it around then, or at least that beta you speak of. I don't think Sony wants to adopt SE's update reputation, so I would hope they would release it around when they said they will release it.
Jelly Bean is in the works, sure, but it's all down to rumors at the moment to when it will be actually released. If we are one update behind for awhile, I don't really care as long as it's optimized for the phone, and not some half-baked, rushed OS port.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/02/28/android-5-release-date-jelly-bean_n_1306952.html
I will say that coming from a Nexus S which was running CM9 (ICS), the interface Sony has put on top of Gingerbread does a great job. I thought I'd hate taking the step back but other than a few little bits, it's not that big of a difference. Things like the themed progress bars and buttons really remove some of the ugliness that GB still had.
Don't get me wrong, I am VERY excited about ICS on this device but I don't miss ICS as much as I thought I would. I can certainly hold on for a few weeks.

For the general public, beta roms with problems can cause much more damage reputation-wise (aka "this phone sucks, it crashes all the time lol").
Also, I like how Asus has pushed fast ICS releases for the Transformer, but it does not yet have the stability of the previous HC version. Picking up your tablet/phone for a 3 minutes read and seeing it reboot spontaneously is not that great
So I prefer Sony to be a bit late and get a good ICS release at the first try. And when it comes to the Arc/Arc S, we will know the XPS version will be close

What I would be suggesting is for them to work harder to hit the market at a right time with fully optimized upgrade. If they don't want loss of customer like what they did back in X10 time, they need to still work faster and base on 2011 model upgrade and what we saw, they are on a right track.

How many brands have upgraded their lineup to ICS so far "at a right time and fully optimized"? If Sony delivers an upgrade before end of Q2 they're still in a comparable time with other brands unless all the others suddenly deliver it in the following 1-2 months, because so far only Samsung (that is the biggest Android manufacturer at the moment) is barely pointing to an imminent SGS2 upgrade (based on rumors, not even officially yet).

Here's your choice.
1.Be the first that has ICS.
2.Wait 2 more months and get a fully optimised ICS, totally optimised for your phone. That probably runs better than a HTC or Samsung on ICS with the same specs.
btw ICS isn't a super drastic update or something, you're acting like it's the difference between Window 3.11 and Windows 7.

Htc have already released ics for their sensation phones, also alot of manufacturers would have phones released next month with ics onboard.
I'm not buying the Xperia S until the ics update comes out, it just doesn't feel right to spend $600+ aud on a high end phone that comes with a 1.5 yrs old os that my current phone is running. If ics doesn't come out by april. I'm buying a new phone from the other manufacturers which does have ics.

It is (probably more like xp to windows 7), just hw acceleration and support for the google chrome browser is reason enough for the upgrade.
ICS is the only reason I am upgrading from my n1
Well, thanks for all the comments up there ^^^.
I did the ICS upgrade that ZD did in arc board and have it on my arc and it was based on Vanilla ICS. I got the best battery and performance I have ever got on any android phone (owned 4 so far)
Second, optimization with Sony won't be there ever. While I agree there are lots of work with custom UI and setting and adding extra stuff that Sony does't with their on-top of OS thing, but if you pay attention, the OS on Xperia S 2.3.7 that should be optimized, its not even close to being optimized. Battery is like hell, I got rid of all the junk apps (bascially everything) and have nothing to run live, plus battery of this phone is bigger that arc (yes, screen is larger as well) but still not close even to arc.
I like to be optimist about this situation, but I was more hoping for a Beta version so maybe our beloved developers could make something out of it.
You guys don't worry, I won't be waiting for Sony to release its optimized ICS since I really don't care about the UI.
I hope I didn't go over board since we are all here to have fun.

You mean the Sensation ICS update officially released only in a couple of countries with bugs as idiot as links not opening in the browser?
If your priority is having ICS and Jelly Bean when released ASAP your only real option is a Nexus Galaxy. As of today Android is still a train wreck when it comes to OEM updates...
you people should look at SGSII forums.People are complaining about the rushed ICS official update.
Now there is no official JB update for xperia mini pro.......
Sony posted this in their facebook page......
But if there is JB for other device I'll try to port it to our little devices.
No way...!!

Ok that may not be the right place to post but hey thath s really not cool they are still "brand new" phones... Maybe it s not the good translation but what about a petition for em to make a jb on our phones. You know everybody sign a paper or a mail or what and we all send em the same text ?
Whatever thanks to all devs they are doing all my phones and also some of my friends are even better !
Ps : there is a special call number for Xperia i will ask them what about jb on our phones. I m from france so some of you should also try on their country ?

Then Good Luck to you Allen Hu.
JB works just fine on the unofficial CM10 by FXP too... And the official CM10 would be coming soon
2011 series wasn't even sure on ics update (which, btw came out 3 months ago, not decades). The official statement that they wouldn't get jb update came out months ago.
Tbh I don't understand why people are so avid on updates, os improvement doesn't mean your phone will work better (especially if it isn't designed for certain technical specs).
As a matter of fact no ics rom performs, lasts as much as gb ones, just the same way a pentium I 133 with 10gig hd can't run win7....
So maybe it's just me, but i really don't get what the fuss is about, not to reach the point of a petition at least.
Sony as of Q4 2011 sold 32,597,500 units (only smartphones, this does not include ps3, sony music etc). A good developer here on xda reaches on average 5 to 6.000 thanks for a modded rom, assuming there are many ungreatful people out there let's double it, that's still 10.000 times short than the market share....why would they care?
Whatever the case is, if an official version doesn't come out someone will port it and there still will be enough to play around with until our phones will eventually be replaced by newer ones
I like but ................

I respect your thinking but if the device is capable of running the software then why the company is not developing the update if no update then they should give at least the Pure Android OS Software without their customization or any thing extra with all the drivers and kernel. or they may supply the appropriate drivers for the other developers like FXP to support their devices unofficially in the background.
The x mini pro is capable to runing JB ? U must be kiding

+1. Either stop whining or get a life guys(and a new phone too!)
It's all their marketing trick.. if they give jb update to 2011 devices, they think that people will not go for the new devices, instead they will go for 2011 devices with less price and comparable hardware..
