[Q] Atrix Video Length - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What is the limit on video you can take with the Atrix?? I have heard that you can only take a limited video with it. Nowhere I have searched has reported this.

30 minute limit I believe.

OK that's not bad. Now to order my Atrix. I was thinking it was going to be 5 or 10 minutes.

Stream your movie collection to your phone (working with a catch)

I stumbled across and interesting fact the other day that I had never noticed. Picasa will allow you to upload video. As a bonus the max file size is 1gb per video on PC (for some reason the Picasa software on Mac is limited to 100mb), sorry Mac user.
Once the video is uploaded Google converts the file to Flash. This is exactly the same principal as YouTube, but there is no video length cap. It may take some time for the file to be converted. In my experience with a 250mb avi episode of Weeds, it took about 20 minutes to upload the file and for it to be converted for playback. I do have a very fast Fiber based connection so the times may be different for those with cable or DSL.
Once its uploaded and ready to play its as simple as going into the Gallery app and clicking on the video you want to play. The quality is just about perfect and streams without issue on 3g.
Now for the downside. Picasa only gives you 1gb of storage for free. The prices for additional storage are not too bad though as you can see below.
20 GB ($5.00 USD per year)
80 GB ($20.00 USD per year)
200 GB ($50.00 USD per year)
400 GB ($100.00 USD per year)
1 TB ($256.00 USD per year)
2 TB ($512.00 USD per year)
4 TB ($1,024.00 USD per year)
8 TB ($2,048.00 USD per year)
16 TB ($4,096.00 USD per year)
Now for the upsides to this problem. As it stands right now If you decide to not pay for your storage again next year, Google will NOT remove your files. You simply can not add more files.
Additionally you CAN add more then one Google account to your phone and have it sync properly.
The best part about this is that it will play flawlessly on ANY android that has the new Gallery. I might be incorrect but it needs to be the Google gallery as the HTC version on my friends phone does not show his picasa folders. I have tested this on my G1 running 2.2 and the video plays flawlessly.
I currently have a few friends and we are going to chip in on getting 1tb and start dumping our movies on there. Anyone else interested? Hit me up on PM if so.
That is very cool. Good find. I am not certain I would trust my "library" online due to the potential legalities. For the money this would be a simply trouble free solution. I am still hoping someone looks down a server variation for people to use from their media servers\centers. I would feel more comfortable with that.
I agree, but since this folder would NEVER be made public it should not raise any flags. I hope.
I'm wondering how long it would take to transfer 4TB.

How young are you??? Lol. Might be waiting a while.
Good find. I don't see a problem with legalities if they are put in a private folder. I will try this with some of the movies on my computer and report back

[Q] Streaming Video Data Usage

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out how much data is used to stream videos with Netflix/Hulu/etc... I've been searching around but I'm just not finding the answer I'm looking for.
Specifically I'm wanting to know how much data a 45 min tv show netflix would use. I know the official line from netflix and cell providers is this type of app is meant for use over wifi, but most of the time I use my Atrix I'm not anywhere near a wifi connection (I live in South Dakota...). If anyone has an answer or can point me the correct direction I'd appreciate it!

It would be heavy. Not sure on the exact number. Probably depends on the slsize of the movie and the quality. But I would bet it'd be the same as a youtube video if you are watching on medium quality

Use Watchdog3G, the pro version will tell you how much data is being used per app.
Depends on the video quality and also audio quality.
People don't realise that audio can use a lot of data also.
I used VUDU for a while testing streaming movies at hi def, and to play 1080p videos they want you to have a 10Mbps minimum connection to avoid lag. The movies step down from there depending on whether you rent 720p or 480p.
Playing high quality movies is a data sink, no matter the size of screen. The same amount of data has to be streamed whether you watch on a phone or 46" LCD.

[Q] Video limits and time

Ok,
Just looking for some general advice here regarding the video recording side of things with the samsung galaxy s2.
This is the first time ever I have had a phone where I am totally blown away with the video quality of the phone and it has now led me to wonder about a few things.
If I were going away on holls or whatever I am on the understanding the phone will record at 1080p for a total of 4gb per recording clip. Please advise me if I am wrong here
If I am right saying this, approx how many minutes of recording time will I get from 4gb?
Finally, is there a maximum size that the phone will accept for the micro sd card, presently have a 16gb card in the phone, but I guess it would accept 32gb in place of the 16gb?
Cheers for any replies in advance
Ok, so after a bit more digging there seems to be an issue if you record over 2gb of video footage
Seems if you go over 2 gig then you will have problems transferring the footage to a pc.....but if you record less than 2 gig then you are ok.
Also it would seem that around 2 gig is about 15mins recording time.
If I am wrong I am sure someone will advise.

[Q] wifi speeds are so slow

Anyone else having an issue with slow WiFi on your prime?
As a reference my sgs2 and galaxy tab 10.1 get steady 25 up and 25 down every time i run speedtest.net or use the app. It seems that the prime will not get better than 3 to 5 megs up and down?!? I hope someone out there has some info on this issue or mine is going back. :-(
Really? Sheesh, there's about 4 topics on the first page in the general section of this forum (so no, you're not the only one).

Android and the 4GB video limit

So after switching to Android I have experienced my first big fail with the OS. Still love it compared to iOS but I'm bummed.
I like to record bands, usually with my Sony handycam, as I am usually further away and utilise the zoom.
This is great but there is the risk of getting busted as that kind of device can be frowned upon, while nobody gives a crap about phones.
I once forgot my camera so I used my iPhone too successfully record a one hour show. Small club and I was easily at the front. No big deal I thought.
Since moving to Android I didn't do that again until recently, though I did film a few songs of my friends band on my S7E Edge and it turned out great.
So I went to another small show and decided to use my phone up close, rather than risk being asked to put away my camera.
Filming the second band I looked down as my phone was saying something about a size limit and I was like, wtf, I've got lots of space for this very purpose.
Then I saw that it kept on recording and for this set it would do it again as they played almost 110 minutes.
Checking it out later I see the split files, which I can put back together, but there is a gap each time. This is not ideal and initially I thought I had formatted my card wrong, but no, it was exfat and could handle big files.
I did some searching and found the limit used to be 2GB, and the app would stop recording, so at least the camera app kept going or the gap would have been worse as I wasn't expecting it, and quite possibly I may not have noticed at all the first time that it was no longer recording and missed the second half of that band.
I find it hard to believe it's 2017 and this limit is imposed by Android, as iOS does not have it.
I've rooted and used custom roms before, and I love them except for the camera. I demand a great one with my phone for all situations so my S7 is unrooted and stock.
I've read that open camera is a solution, but it seems to automatically start a new file, like my stock app does, so it's not really any better, and probably isn't as good at taking the video.
Is there any hope for this?
