Yesterday, I let my battery die. Charged it last night, and wiped battery states. Ran the phone like normal today. Was down to about 30% left, rebooted. When everything came back up and running, that battery showed to be 5%. WTF!!! How do I drop 25%, just by rebooting?!?!?!?

I re-wiped the battery stat this morning. I was down to about 50% when I needed to reboot. When everything came back up, it showed I was down to 28%. Is this an indication that the battery needs to be replaced or should I try a different Kernel?
Either you have a bad battery, bad battery meter, or your not reconditioning right.

Don't unplug charger until at desktop again (You could debate this one, but that's when I do it)
And don't worry about killing your battery, it'll do more harm than good.
Explanation - When you wipe battery stats, it tells your phone you're at 100%
So, if you wipe when you ARE at 100% you'll get accurate readings.

The past 2 times I did this, the phone was turned off and plugged in and charged over night. this morning I wiped the stat, but i do not remember if I had unplugged it before it finished booting up. I am charging it now, with it on. When it reaches 100%, should I reboot into recovery and wipe it or should I let it run all the way down?
What exactly do you mean by 'let it run all the way down'?

Down to say some were around 20 - 5%.
As far as I understand that shouldn't be necessary, and could weaken your battery.
As long as it's fully charged when you wipe the stats you should be good to go.

Ok...I have ran the phone like normal. Within 6 hours, I am down to 62%. I rebooted the phone, and it still shows me at 62%. At least I have that fixed.
Now, I see some people use OverStock and seem to be getting better battery life. I just want to get about 16+ hours out of my battery. Right now i seem to be pushing 12 hours. What is the tick that i am missing??
For every hundred vibrant users there seems to be a hundred different accounts of battery life, and a hindered different opinions on how to keep it down. 12 hours on the stock battery is pretty good, especially compared to stock.
Mine'll last me around 15+, if I left it not charging, i think.
I'm on overstock, the screen is at the dimmest 95% of the time, and I use setcpu. 1000/1000 with a screen off profile of 200/200. So, that works for me pretty well.

You need to recondition yr battery as posted above, 2-4 cycles. But i prefer to re-flash ROM when battery 100%, should you get proper batt stats.
You may buy new one to test yr system n batt stats, also good for spare. Or just borrow yr friends battery, just to check yr rom n batt stats. Treat it like you did before.

200/200 conservative scaling and no sleep death? Didn't know that was possible on overstock...guess I'll try it.
Edit: sleep of death...you must be on power save or something which afaik doesn't work at all.

I don't think powersave is supported...try conservative and you'll get sleep death due to the low frequency...you don't get this with powersave because I don't believe it's working...trying to confirm this.

I did after installing 1.3, and it just seemed to make my battery drop like crazy, and then at times, not drop at all. I just installed 1.3.1. so should i do a battery stat wipe? what purpose would this serve?
I am not sure the "best practice" on wiping battery stats. I was always under the impression that you should charge to 100%, wipe stats, and then leave on charger until the battery is at 100%.
Not sure if it is best to then do a complete discharge cycle before putting the device back on the charger. I really do not know what the battery stats includes. I always thought it contained battery calibration data.
I'd really like to know this as well.

I think thats what it contains as well, however should i be plugged in while wiping? I always go to the battery stat menu in CWM, then right before i hit Yes, i unplug
I also read the same the thread (got the same rumor), after two battery wipes and fresh rom flashes (from 100%), in either case (on both VIRUS and BAMF) my battery mysteriously goes back to 86%. I can charge it back to 100% again but kinda thinking I shouldn't of wiped it. That or I'm doing it wrong.

Mine does the same thing!! Well, 87%, lol i think maybe our phones are saying 100 when in reality its 86 or 87? also got to keep in mind that rebooting afterwards drains battery like crazy.
Try "bumping" the battery, search battery bump to see the steps, mine use to do the same thing, from 100 to 93 after reboot, now stays in 100.

I switched back to my stock battery after my extended died. I wiped battery stats, wiping stats when flashing new roms is recommended.
Wiping battery stats is never really considered an essential thing to do no matter what. It is nice though to do. I suggest it when you start realizing crap battery life on one ROM/kernel compared to the last one. The suggested way is to wipe it after installing a new kernel and as well as when you swap batteries. Other than that, really no need to in my eyes.
I wipe after every new ROM install, period.

This is when I do it also.
Digging up a thread here, didn't want to waste a new one.. But I have the OEM Extended Battery and I tried wiping my battery stats.. Charge full, reboot into recovery, wipe stats, unplug.. After this I noticed that my battery said 93% even tho the charge light was green.. I drained it until it turned off and charged again overnight.. In the AM, light was green, i turned phone on and its still showing 93% even though it was green. Any ideas? Did I lose that 7% forever?
Sometimes wiping the stats causes a bad battery read. A few reboots should get you back on track. If that doesn't work, try a full battery drain then a full charge. Let us know.
Will try that, even tho I kinda did already. I'm hoping with a few battery cycles the problem goes away.. What Im hoping is I don't need to bump charge now every time like I did when I had my inc

I doubt you lost anything. It would be like Spinal Tap having an amp which only went to 9.
I only had to wipe when my battery wasn't decreasing in percentage. After I wiped, it started decreasing like it should. I would think any fast reduction in percentage would be a bad battery.
Are there any proven facts out there that it is really ever necessary to wipe them? It's not like it actually improves battery life am I correct?
as far as wiping battery stats goes.
i have only used it when reconditioning a battery.
ie if you start noticing bad (read: worse that you have been getting) battery life after flashing a new rom or kernel. or just after a time using a standard rom.
what i do is
1 turn the phone off.
2 charge it on AC until it goes green and for an hour afterward.
3 unplug it and wait 30 seconds.
4 plug it back in and repeat step 3 until the light goes from red to green within 20 or so seconds. (this is called bump charging)
5 boot into CWR and wipe battery stats. and let it burn all the way down until it wont even turn on (flashing orange led)
6 charge to full and enjoy your maybe improved battery life.
when wiping battery stats, do i have to do it a few times or no? i wiped battery stats at full and drained battery until it turned off twice.. once wiping the stats with CWR and once, and after a cycle, with the 'battery calibrate' app (made by someone here on xda i believe)..
seems to be working okay i guess, but lets say i have 94%, i reset my phone and it comes back with only 84%.. it appears it's still reading my battery wrong by around 10%. is this normal?
It doesn't happen at every reset, looks like just the first one of the day. I guess I can charge to full, reboot, and charge to full again as a workaround.

I have read all the threads on wiping battery stats but have some questions. I charged my phone overnight with it off. I woke up and unplugged for a bit and then plugged it in again with the phone still off. I turned the phone on and the light turned amber again for a minute. It showed 4206. Once it turned green it was at 4197. I was still plugged in and booted into clockwork and proceeded to wipe battery stats. I unplugged during clockwork. When the phone rebooted it showed 100% at 4130. Is this how it normally works? Now i just need to run it till it shuts off and then recharge with the phone off? I'm concerned because it said 100% at 4130. I know it should be showing 4200 at 100%. I tried this before and every time I charge overnight it will show 100% at less than 4200, usually ranging from 4080-4190. I usually have to bump charge the battery to get it up to/over 4200. This is a pain in the butt sometimes. I'm using the Verizon 2750 extended battery. Am I following procedures right? Help me if you can.
I dont think 70mah is going to make or brake anyone, but this is going to happen anytime you use cwm, since it needs to boot twice. Try wiping in terminal emulator with a script.

Not really at all. I use it. I wipe stats through the script though. Fewer apps, the fewer system resources and processes used. I script everything possible.
I tried the app. I performed the calibration and my phone is showing 100% at 4209. I'll run it down to empty and then give it a full charge. Should I charge with phone on or off to achieve the best results?

A charge is a charge of course. Either way'll do it.
The app worked perfectly. When I was finally able to run the phone down after 50 hours, i charged it fully and this morning I took it off the charger and it showed 100% at 4208. When wiping through CWM I would never get a consistent # at 100% when I pulled it off the charger. Usually my # would drop a lot once I pulled it off the charger. I highly recommend this app.
For the past few days my battery has been charging to a max of 92%, whether or not I try unplugging the battery, leaving the phone on the charger, wiping battery stats, and doing all that I can to try to reset the battery stats.
Anyone have any idea?
UPDATE: My phone is still not charging past 92%, no matter how long I leave it on, or what I try to do to fix it. 4167mv max
I have a similar issue, it's been like that for a long time for me. What ROM/kernel are you running? It might fix it to completely drain it, charge it powered off, reinstall ROM/kernels when it is completely charged and reset battery.

I too was having this issue after going from cm7 week 5, to week 8. I did what others were recommending and charged to what showed 4200mv, pulled the battery while still plugged in, put battery back in then after it showed 5%, turned it back on and Viola, 100% battery. Try it.
its most effective if you know your battery is fully charged, power it down, pull the battery, while the battery is pulled plug it into the power adapter, it will act like its starting to charge, but then instead of having a percentage, it will have a question mark. pull the power, put the battery back in, turn on, wipe battery stats in recovery and run with it...

I just started having this issue and cant wait to try it thanks for the suggestions.
when this happend on mine all i did was keep using it and it fixed itself. i ran it down maybe to 20% before I got to charge it again and it slowly creeped back up to 100%. took about a week.
I've had the problem, and have run the solution more times that I can count. But nothing ever fixes it permanently. Everytime I run the battery low, the levels get all screwy again. Maybe my phone is just worse than everyone else's, but I had to just give up on it. Would love a permanent solution, but so long as I'm running this ROM (CM7), I doubt I'll ever find one.

I'm in the same situation as you are... I had this problem for a long time now (Guess it has something to do with excessive flashing...) and no matter what kind of solution I do (Wipe battery stats via recovery, re-calibrate the battery, pull the battery out while charging and replugging it) it returns after a day or two.
I want to check if it has something to do with the battery or the device, and if I will remember to do so, I will plug my spare battery for several day's run, but that is subjected to me leaving the comfort of my usual laziness....
Would love if there was a permanent solution as well, thou I doubt that too....
I've had the same problem on a number of different roms and at different times. I find that instead of mucking around wiping stats etc, it has always come good eventually for me.

Didn't really understand what you meant, did the battery percentage fixed by itself and gave you 100% at full charge on one day? out of the blue?
Or did you just got used to have less then 100% battery display?

First let the battery completely drain and the phone shut down by it self. Second step is to pull out the battery and leave it out for 10min, after that take a plastic bag and put the battery in it and place it in the freezer for 15min. after this palce the battery again in the mobile. make sure there is no any moisture on the battery. Then charge the phone without power on till 100%.
By following these steps this will made your battery to charge fully and more talk time

Um correct me if I'm wrong anyone, but doesn't cold kill the battery and shorten its life? I remember my mom always putting new batteries in the fridge and them only lasting a couple days compared to the ones left out that lasted a month or so with same use.

Haha, I got a good laugh out of this one -- you've got to be joking.
I've had this problem for a quite a while now with the Atrix and two different batteries. I've tried dozens of combination of resetting the battery stats, running the battery completely down, and powering up without the battery and hot swapping it in. The hot swap definitely allows me to finally recharge to 100%, but once I run it down again, the problem returns. I've learned to just live with the less than 100% reading -- battery still seems to last a full 24 hours for me.

That trick hasn't worked since nicad batteries in the 90s, and is a really bad idea with our Li-PO.
Drain the battery till the phone shuts off, charge back up while the phone is off.
If it still doesn't get to 100%, boot into CWM, wipe battery stats and power off the phone to let it charge again.
^^ I know it works because I've done this like 2 days ago, and many times before that.

I've tried the pull out, question mark, 5% thing and it usually only works for one cycle, then the next only goes to 97%, then the next to 93%, then 90%, and it continually goes down until I have to do it again. Hopefully a permanent fix can be found soon. I've tried clearing battery stats, draining it to 0%, then charging it fully. I've tried everything. As far as I'm concerned, there's no fix as of right now.

★ATTENTION! I FOUND THE FIX!★
Turn phone off and plug it in to a wall charger. Charge it until your notification light turns green, quickly tap the power button to check battery level. (Usually shows 90%) If the notification light turns on, but the battery indicator is not at 100%, unplug phone, take out battery and put it back in. Now plug your phone. It should be 100% now. For the final fix: go into "Android Recovery" and select "Mounts". Mount Your SD card and Emmc. Finally wipe battery stats. Reboot phone.
This method worked for me. I am 100% sure this is the fix for this problem. This has to be done every time you flash a new rom or when your phone freezes and you screw up calibration by pulling the battery while it is still on. BTW, this is my first post so don't be mean to me!

For some odd reason my battery icon shows 71%, but if I go to batt status it shows 62%. I flashed a diff batt mod and it changed to the new one, but it's still on 71%. Any ideas how I can make it show the correct status?

These aren't the old Ni-Cad batteries from the 80's but Lithium ion batteries If you want to reset the battery stats just download Battery Calibration from the play store. Charge phone to full and then hit Calibrate and it will reset your stats. Unless something is different with the GS4 or their TW OS any newly installed rom should have this done after installation

The statement about li-ion not being akin to ni-cad is correct. The rest is not.
No app is capable of battery calibration. The myth of wiping battery stats to calibrate the battery was clearly and concisely debunked a year and a half ago. Apps such as Battery Calibration ate pure snake oil, as they do not affect battery indication in any way, shape, or form. Additionally, there is absolutely no benefit to wiping battery stats after flashing a rom.
The fact of the matter, as verified by Battery University, is that a complete discharge/charge cycle is the only method of "calibration" available to an end user. By performing a single cycle, the charge and discharge flags are reset. Only a single cycle is needed and this is something that need be performed more than a few times a year, as it wail shorten the battery's serviceable lifespan.

There is a far easier way to clear battery stats. Charge to phone to full or near full, and then unplug it. Voila! Regardless, wiping battery stats is not going to do anything for the op.

That actually didn't do the trick, as nothing relevant to reported charge is contained in the file that is wiped. While it may seem logical to ascribe the fix to a proximal act, it is actually a case of post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Neither did this. The battery calibrator app did nothing either. My phone is still showing a percent up top that is not what shows in settings/more/battery. More news, my phone showed this morning, after I unplugged it from all night charge, that it had been running on battery for 8 hours 2 minutes. The whole battery status is fubar somehow.

That's the only thing I haven't tried. Will do that today. Will report.
Didn't work. Gonna have to dirty flash the ROM.
My S4 (2 months old) dies with the battery at 20%. After reboot (plugged in) it still says 20%. Why does that happen? It should say 0%!
Update
It seems that the battery gives an incorrect fake voltage sometimes. To correct that I turned the camer flash on, using a flashlight utility, and after a few seconds I clicked the quick start button in the battery calibration utility you can access dialing *#0228#.
Now it show 11% that should almost be correct, and it's now charging. I am charging it in slow mode at 500mA just to give it a proper charge.
I'll update you as soon as I have results.
Second Update
Nothing. I think the battery is broken.
It dies at about 20%-30% and when the phone restarts, plugged in, it says it's 20%.
