chrome browser? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, i know were all thinking it... WHY IS THERE FF AND NOT CHROME?
I know its a matter of time before someone finds a way, but why oh why did they have to use firefox and not chrome? Does anyone know a way to swap it out?

No, nobody knows a way to swap it. And because Mozilla paid Motorola a good amount of money to put their browser on it.

What? Mozilla (the non-profit foundation) paid to have firefox on the Atrix? Can you link a source, I would love to read that story.

I definitely find it odd that there's not a chrome app of any sort. I figured there would at least be an app available in the market, regardless of what comes included on the phones. I'd like to see the option, even though I wouldn't expect it to be quite the same as the desktop version.

[Q] Remove anoying ads in android

Hi,
ik was wondering if there is any way to delete all the anoying ads you get by google in the androidsystem, because they are pretty anoying! They use up too much of my screen and I don't want em there!
Is there a solution for this?
I just want an ad-free android phone. If I want to see ads I go looking for them myself! I allready get this sh*t in my email, mail, internetsurfing, TV, magazines, ingame, etc, etc.
If it comes into your personal stuff it's just spam, am I right?
I just don't want no ads/spam no more in my phone!!!!!!!!!!!!
(sounds like a song!)

"I just want an ad-free android phone."
You just answered your own question download "adfree " . it removes the adds rather i should say it blocks the adds bu just keeping a blank screen . something is better then nothing. I use it myself, and i don't mind the little blank screen which you will never-ever notice.
Your device need to be rooted for using Adfree.
Just remember, you're hurting the developers who wrote that program for you to use. But, if you're ok with that, do what the guy above said.
i've never understood how online andvertisment works.
Never clicked on a single ad and yet they're making money?
sense none
It's called "impressions". They pay very little, but, if you've got a big enough audience, they are good enough.
Also, people do click on ads, you'd be surprised. I've clicked on a few, especially in apps that I really like and want to support the devs.
Well, I'm not asking for those ads! If i use an app, it's because I want to use that app, not because there are some interesting ads in it!
And oc I dont want blank space instead! I wan to use my screen for what I am doing at that moment!

You think it's messed up we live in a society where people should receive money for work they did?
You paid for your PC, does that mean all the software should be free? You've paid for a refrigerator, does that mean your food should be free? You've paid for a car, does that mean gas should be free?
When you grow up, you'll hopefully realize that people work hard for a reason.
Well, I guess it's for money, right?!
But still it doesn't mean that they have to spam it into my life!
You missed my point: I'm happy and willing to pay for what I need and people offer, but it's still my choise to go looking for it myself, instead of being spammed on my mobile, TV, email, regular mail, etc...
I perfectly know what I want and don't want. It has nothing to do with groing up.
It's just a shame that we live in a society in what this is all seen as 'normal'.
Ontopic: after experiencing adfree for two days now, I can say I'm happy with it.

For people like you it doesnt have effect, however there are lots of people, actually most of the humans, who are catchable for advertisements.
If it didnt create any turnover companies stopped advertising ages ago. Now they are willing to pay huge amounts of money to get advertising time during a important tv event...so this is a cheap way for small companies to get their names into the already overloaded free market where we luckily live in.
For you it is one of the downsides of this free world, for them it is an oppurtunity to increase business.

SlingPlayer on the TouchPad?

Has anyone been able to get it to work? I was hoping I could at least watch it using the browser because I'm not paying $30 for the SlingpPlayer app for webOS when I'm waiting on an Android port for this thing.
Is there anyway to alter the TP it so that the SlingMedia website thinks that it is a regular desktop computer? Maybe someone has a better idea?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the slingplayer for webOS that is available even works on the TP. I would gladly pay for it if it works on the TP.

According to the SlingMedia website, the webOS version works on certain devices, but which ones are not specified. Since I plan on running Android on this as soon as it becomes available, it does not make sense (to me) to purchase the app even if we knew for sure that it works. I mean, if it was $5, then I'd do it. However, after paying a good amount of money for the SlingBox Pro HD, it's a bit steep to ask me to pay $30 for the an app to be able to use it........temporarily.
That's why I think that altering the way the device is recognized by the website would be the best way to go.
The SlingPlayer Website uses IE ActiveX control/ FF extension. There's no way your gonna be able to run it on WebOS, unless they convert the extension to a Flash player..

Oh God I hope not! The Jeddaks would start a war if they did! Cloud computing has a major drawback, you need the internet for it to work. Not to mention it is fairly limited. They would be better off to partner with Canonical and build a proper release for webtop capable phones.
I agree however, if it's goggles baby it could happen, and not just to motorola. This could be a later stepping stone to make android more appealing. Built in chrome os for docked android phones. While I wouldn't care for it, the general public might. Plus you did read about the chrome team creating a version of chrome for android. It wouldn't take much to later implement a large screen version with hdmi plugged in. They wouldn't have to make it chrome os to give us the same functionality.

Chrome OS on outdated photon 4g
Ok so I have a new Galaxy S4 and a perfectly fine photon 4g that is collecting dust. I want to be able to use my photon 4g for only lapdock related content like surfing and such... The problem is, as many have seen, is once you hit 2.3.5 you are pretty much stuck. What I want to do is wipe the phone and put chrome OS on it as I only need lapdock functions to work and I don't care if it has a Sprint Radio or not. This way I can still use it with more current applications that webtop won't or can't support. Has anyone else thought of this idea or is it even possible? The hardware supports it, the screen is made for it and the battery life would be crazy for it as I have a bionic lapdock that works great for it.
Please let me know if I am crazy to even think to try this project as I am a new to posting on here...

MyMathLabs support by anychance?

I bought my prime an dock for school usage. My math class requires me to use MyMathLabs web site to do some homework, which requires flash. It supposedly is supported by Firefox, Chrome, and IE. I use Dolphin HD as my primary browser and Firefox secondary if I need something that requires unique support. However, I'm unable to access my homework. I can log in, proceed through various menus but when I go to open the problems, I recieve an error about a broken plug in. What may I be missing?
I can't wait for real Chrome to be released for tabs...
Thanks for reading, I appreciate any suggestions, as I can't afford to not have access to this site and it's a pain to use a shared computer at school or to go to my parents for theirs.
All flash and plug ins and apps are most recent version.
A link to the math labs web site would be helpful. I'm going to go look for it, and probably find it, but the easier you make it for people to help you the more help you're likely to get.
Ok, found it. it's www.mymathlab.com, as expected.
Which class are you taking, and did you run the Installation Wizard and/or Browser Check?
I might add I have at least 6 browsers installed on my Prime at the moment, I plan to check all of them. My current fav is ICS+ so I'll start with it. I'll list them with links and results later.
Chrome IS released for tabs...

Only in beta, last I checked.
I have the same problem on my prime, but half way works on my evo 4g running stock gingerbread

If you have good wifi at your school you could use splashtop which is already installed on the prime. As a workaround.
Thank you

Thanks for your patience, I tried to be as thorough as I could be. My apologies. I am taking Math 053 :/
As I said before, I'm only having trouble when I get to the point of being able to actually look at the questions for the homework or quizes. I can view all the menus leading up to that point and access everything else except the important stuff lol.
I've used Firefox, Dolphin HD and the stock browser. I'm considering Opera, but I'm not sure if it will do any better.
Also, I'm not familiar with splashtop, but I'll look into it, thanks!
Any other help is appreciated
Chrome for Android will NEVER have Flash support.
Also, am I the only one who read the thread title differently, substituting an "e" for an "a?" Maybe I should do a bit less work with my County's Narcotics unit. (I am in IT for the County here.)

Boat Browser or ICS Browser + are both highly recommended. You might try them.
Also, there is a Browser Check feature on MyMathLabs. I recommend loading up the page in all your browsers separately and running that to see if any of them are supposed to be compatible.
Same issue on of v909 tablet
I have the same issue with my lg v909 tablet and Samsung galaxy s2. My tablet is only on android 3.1 or 2 I think. I've been struggling with this issue for a while now. On every browser that I use. Need help like crazy for this bc I havemidterms this week.

[Q] Lapdock for Atrix 4g - what do you use it for?

I just got my lapdock and it's neat, no doubt about it. But what do you actually use it for?

I'm gonna wait for this one to get going before I input my wit!
VERY basic web browsing (email, facebook, xda, etc) and that's it. Don't try to fire up too many youtube videos or you'll get the low memory popup. I'm going to take my lapdock for a weekend wedding trip instead of my laptop in May...I should be ok. Looking forward to possible improvements in the future ICS build .

I got my new bicycle today........It's really shiny and cool. What's a bicycle do anyway?
Why did you buy something if you don't know what to do with it?
(Sorry, but it's either of two things..............you worded the OP in a way that doesn't convey what you really meant, or you really did just buy a lapdock without knowing what it's for)

My main curiosity is what most people use it for, as each person finds different value in different items....
I know what it is for and I'm enjoying using it in my own fashion. The main reason I bought it, so you will know, is because I found it for $50 bucks and it will increase the value of my Atrix 4g as a package, if & and when I go to sell it, should I ever find a phone I like more.
Also,Congrats on your new bicycle as well. I hope it serves you well. Just wait until you take the training wheels off! You'll be REALLY happy.
Thanks, I'm really happy with it! It has streamers on the handles!
I bought the lapdock in a deal also, but unfortunately mine is off to Motorola as there was something wrong with it when I received it. I think the lapdock will change somewhat in functionality once Webtop 3.0 becomes available to us. It should have more of a "laptop" functionality at that point I think.
I used it for very little until I installed webtop2sd, and turned it into a very serviceable portable connected computer. I have replaced my current laptop with the lapdock, and have been quite happy using Openoffice, and PDF reader. Professionally, I now have used it in court 3-4 times to hold reference materials (instead of printing volumes of online records), and I do email with it. I have also heard that it is very functional in a remote desktop setting, but aside from testing this, I have not pursued it.
The one issue that I have is installing firefox extensions. My lack of linux knowledge is holding me back, and I would like to be able to read .tif files from within the browser, but as of now cannot. Other than this, I think it is safe to consider this as functional as a regular (lower end) laptop.
Again, I cannot reiterate how much more useful webtop2sd makes this device. Who knows what the ICS update will bring?
Meh, id rather have an actual linux distro than android on a screen: Ubuntu is made for a mouse and keyboard, android, and specifically the apps for it, are made for touchscreens that our lapdocks do not have, so i dont see it translating well.
