An awesome video converter... - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

All,
I ran across an amazingly simple, free, yet EXTREMELY effective video converter online.
I've been using it for the past couple of weeks and think it's the best thing since <insert catchy phrase here>...
It converts from almost any format, to almost any format. It downloads youtube videos and converts to any format you like... It also integrates itself flawlessly into chrome to automatically download content into any format you like.
It slices...
It dices...
It ...
!!!
anyhoo... I thought others would like to benefit from an awesome free video converter..
http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/
Enjoy!

THANKS! good find. easy to use and has android settings and its free

Thanks for sharing!

Shame it is not available for Linux.

No slicing and dicing required
Use QQPlayer... You don't have to slice or dice. The mainpage is in chinese but the actual player is in english. It plays almost all the formats (I've tired, avi, mpeg, dat, mkv, mp4 and divx).

Anyone compare this to Handbrake?

I wish it had a MAC version...

Hope this works good on the streak I just downloaded and started converting the HULk to see if it looks good on this screen

[Q] Easiest was to get movies on vibrant?

I have been looking at a few ways to do it but whats the best/fastest ?
Wow. Is dragging and dropping just that much of an exhausting task? I don't think it gets much easier than that. lol
What have you tried?
what does the file type have to be?..width? anything have to be converted?
RockPlayer plays most formats.
I have been looking for ages for a suitable way to stream video files to my phone. ORB is NOT the solution and does not work well on Android for some reason, not even. The browser based access is better then the app, but its still horrible.
I have an average of 25mbps upload bandwidth through Verizon Fios and stream movies over the internet to friends and family all the time on PC. I use a UPNP streamer and a VPN client to accomplish the streaming and XBMC as a client to view the video. I just can find a suitable way to do this on my phone.
The fact that our phone plays divx natively now makes this all the more frustrating.
If we could figure out a way around the WiFi only aspect of AllShare setting up a VPN should give us access to a UPNP server at home from anywhere.
Any DVD Converter
I purchased this program awhile back while trying to back up my kid's dvds (cars, up, bolt, etc) so that I could throw them on my PS3 and have him just click them to watch instead of throwing the dvds around and fingerprinting/scratching them up.
I tried to figure out how to do it the "free" way for about a week with ffmpeg etc and finally gave up and decided it was worth 45 bucks to have it done for me in one click instead of running command prompt commands only to get a video that was out of sync or unplayable on the ps3.
Anyway, this thing works like a charm and if you encode to ps3 it will work on your vibrant. Have already ripped a few dvds and put them on there.
I tried posting the link but since I am new, the forum won't let me. Google "any dvd converter" and it should come up though.
They also have a free program for converting regular video files instead of dvds but I haven't tried that to see if it works well on the phone. It's called Any Video Converter.
Just use handbrake. Search here, there is a simple how to guide using it.

+1 for Handbrake.
I'm amazed I keep seeing these topics. Why not just drag your files over and use the included video player. I've tried many Divx and Xvid files and every one has played just fine.
I guess it only helps that my entire movie collection already is in that format I suppose.
It can play a lot of different file types. I have put mkv (no subtitle support though), avi, divx, xvid. The list of all compatible formats and codecs can be found on Samsung's support site for the Vibrant. The codecs supported are Divx, Xvid, MPEG-4 AVC, H.263, H.264. And the formats are 3GP, MPG, MP4, AVI, WMV, MKV, FLV, H.263.
I understand the file formats and drag and drop but here is my question about this. I have a lot of mkvs over 4gb. What is the best way to get them over? Would I just need to compress them down to under 4gb?

As I understand the player does not work very good with files over 2 GB.
There is a program called double twist. Its pretty much iTunes for android. It syncs all your media to your device. I have a small selection of songs and a few movies on my vibrant.
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA app
Compressing them won't do a lot of good (in my experience). I'd recommend re-encoding them at a framerate no greater than 29.97, the resolution set to match the scale of the Vibrant, and audio sampling between 96 and 128 kbps. Adjust the various settings until you are happy with the quality while whittling down that file size.
Just my two cents.

Thought I would post up a new trick I saw on Gizmodo the other day. There is a program you can download for your PC called LiBox. Just download the server, install it on your PC, wait FOREVER while it builds the library. Now you have access to your videos from any device with a connection to the internet. Well ok thats a bit of a fib on their part. The device needs to have Flash support.
I have already tested this server on my friends Nexus1 and it works beautifully. It makes Orb look like a hunk of ****, which it is on Android.
LiBox has also stated that they will soon release a client App for Android. They just put out their app for the iPhone the other day.
So we have two options for this service in the near future. One we use there app and hopefully get to use our native player or two we wait till we get 2.2 + Flash 10 support and play them through the browser.
Either way this service looks to be just what I have been waiting for.

Yes, but Handbrake alone does not decode the video, as I tried it on 3 DVD's, and all i got was screwed up video and intermittent sound. What did work for me is using the free DVD rip to hard drive of the program DVDFab then pointing Handbrake at the decoded files to make the copy for my phone. Works great for me!
I have always seemed to have good luck with videora. Its a free download. Its actually an ipod/iphone converter. Just set it to h264. Its a pretty straight forward applivation.

DVD Decrypter is free and works very well, not trial bloatware like DVDFab. It also has a built in DVD Burner and plays really well with the freeware program DVD Shrink if you like to make your 7GB DVD-9's into nice 4.7GB DVD-5's or if you just want to strip out the FBI, Trailers, Special Features etc.
There's this torrent application called "Swarm".
This client actually WORKS. I'm serious. Try it out. I always get good speeds on WiFi, 3G and even EDGE.
It costs money on the Market, but it's REALLY worth it.

Most of my movies are MKVs and I've used Handbrake CLI for all of them. Just use the following
.mp4 container
H.264
AAC
1280x720 (this is optional but it works the best for me)
24 FPS
You can lower the resolution if you want but 720p has a really good quality. If your videos are in 16:9 then you can lower the resolution to 854x480 to maintain the aspect ratio. If the movies are in 2.35:1 then you would still use 854x480 but you're going to have black bars.

Can Dell Streak play 1080p or 720p Videos?

Hello Guys,
Just wanted to know if Dell Streak can play 1080p or 720p Videos or not?
I tried playing mp4/ avi files using Rock Player, they worked with lag, is there any work around?
Have you enabled the hardware acceleration in the build.prop?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I convert them to .mp4's to watch on my Streak.
The Streak is only 800x480 so theres no point trying to play a 1280x720 video.
A converted 720p .mkv file is soooo much better quality than its .avi counterpart.
I use the Touch HD Encoder, a very simple and effective program.
Can I ask what program u guys use to convert the video files?
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
i use Rock Player from Market to play video files; i try 720p and 1080p mkv movies with subtitles and works perfect 100%, like on computer with hd video card .
there is a great program in the forum called "Encoder" - I have used it to convert videos to mp4 for all my previous phones to play without any lag.
I use arc media player, not come across a file yet that it wont play, everything from avi, to mkv to mp4, in any definition. Great apparently and its free!
Sorry if this is OT:
I am having issues getting my DVDs converted to digital on my desktop. I was trying to use handbrake, but it always came out funny (jagged sound and large rainbow pixels across the screen). I assume this is some kind of copyright protection.
Right no I am desperate to convert my library to digital back ups that I can toss on and off my devices at will. Any insight on how to solve my problem would be great.
I used Handbrake without any probs - did you choose the best settings? I used Presets Normal, Video Codec Mpeg-4 & Picture Size Custom - I resized using Aspect Ratio.
I followed a couple guides online. I m not even talking about it getting to the phone, it won't even play on the desktop.
So far I ve used these settings:
720x480
264
mp4
EDIT: Just for clarity. Should I be using VLC since Handbrake does not decrypt? (I read this after a google search please inform me if I m wrong).

Best movie player for atrix?

What is the best video player that works on atrix? I tried QQ and V Player and they both fail pretty hard. V player won't even open anything

I ve only used one since I had the atrix and it plays all of my movies flawless that's "rockplayer lite" I don't know which is the best because it's the only one I tried but I will stick with it since it works.

Check out Vital Player.
arcMedia has worked very well for me, handles .avi files and doesn't afraid of anything..
edit: I tried to post a link but lurking has its disadvantages. Search "arcmedia" in the market and you should find it ezpz
I personally use doubletwist and that does music and video so that's what I use

I use mVideo Player. It works great with added feature of specifying your video folder, adding subtitles from the web and downloading Poster pics for your converted videos. Plays .m4v,mp4, or .mak formats which are the only ones I use.

This. I use the stock video player for everything (I just convert the videos...it takes 10 seconds) but if I use an app to download a youtube video that doesn't play natively VitalPlayer can do it.
I agree with Vital Player. Just grabbed it and it works great.

Same as circuit, but you have to make sure to use FFMpeg since the Atrix doesn't play high-profile H.264. Plays perfectly though if you transcode in FFMPeg even up to 1080p and 5,000kbps or higher. Doesn't seem to phase it at all.
i use rockplayer and it works pretty solid. plays anything i downloaded from the internet.

No handbrake is not only for iphone, its for mpg4. So its perfect for transcoding to .mp4 or containers like *.mkv. I use it all the time and it works great if you make your own presets. Heck even the presets for iphone work great if you don't mind the scaling.
Do these converters retain sub titles? I wish we didn't have to convert anything. When I had the Galaxy Tab that thing played everything I threw at it with no conversions.

With handbrake you can hard sub or multi lang sub. But im not sure how well different players will work with muti lang subs. VLC needs to get a native android app with gpu and smp decoding asap!

I run Rock Player Lite. It plays .avi files flawlessly and that's the majority of my vids. Also the default Entertainment via hdmi works wonders.
MoboPlayer is the best
I have a bunch of video players each with its own set of features. MoboPlayer is excellent. It shows you video list screenshots, it reads off the external SD card, it plays all formats, it has onscreen controls, there are onscreen controls to size the screen, it is fast and colors are good. The only thing it does not do is play videos in the background. I believe Meridian Player does that.

Watching movies on my Tablet S

Any recommendations on apps for ripping and converting dvd movies for watching on a Tablet S?
Aside from copyright issues (let's not even go there) I travel a lot and it would be far easier to take a handful of SD cards with my favourite movies or TV shows on them than lug a box of DVD's half way around the world with me.
I have seen people put movies on their iPads but I don't want to have to pay to download a movie that I already own on dvd just so I can watch it on my tablet.
Advice appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda app-developers app
For the conversion I would recommend MediaCoder. It's the most versatile tool. The target format would be mp4 (H.264, Baseline Profile).
Supported Video Formats for the Tablet S and the built-in players:
H.263, Profile0, max. 704x576, max 4 Mbps, .mp4;.3gp
H.264/AVC, Baseline Profile, max. 1920x1080, max 10 Mbps, .mp4;.m4v;.3gp
MPEG-4, Simple Profile/Advance Simple Profile, max 1920x1080, max 10 Mbps, .mp4;.3gp
WMV, Simple Profile/Main Profile, max 1920x1080, max 10 Mbps, .wmv
Thanks for that.. Anyone have any thoughts on rippers and/or combined ripping and conversion software applications?

Check out Slysoft's CloneDVD Mobile. It is one of the best rip-and-convert softwares you'll find and well worth its price. For ripping/copying protected DVDs, you'll also need to use SlySoft's AnyDVD HD, which is also well worth its price. I have used all of SlySoft's softwares (except Game Jackle) for several years and have yet to find a DVD they failed to handle.

Thanks - Freemake seemes to be doing an ok job right now - though some stuff it struggles to convert. Also, I have tried to change the dimensions in Freemake so that there is less letterbox and more image on the screen but everytime I do it crashes.
Will check out the Slysoft stuff but it seems a bit expensive for the convenience.
Thx

Well, I don't know if I understood your problem.
The crash maybe is due to a problem in your PC.
Personally, I normally choose MKV format and HD 720p quality for my rip's.
Hope this can help you!
I use Handbrake, although may check out Freemake, to convert.
I also use DVD43 as well, never failed yet, for those copy protected DVD's

I second this, MX Player is a great app for playing those video files like .avi, .mpg, and .mkv that most movies come in these days. Perfect for watching my anime's xD
I do try to watch video full hd 720 however I can not if
Another one for mx player here, one of the only apps on the market that fades out the icons on the notification bar just like the sony stock app.

Imo moboplayer is a lot better than mx video player. Mx player just doesn't seem as clear.
Btw I'm a new sony tab user soon. Just ordered one.

Best way to convert movies for Note 2

Hey guys, I've recently been trying to figure out the best way to convert some of my movies for my Note 2. I've downloaded Handbrake and tested it out but I can't seem to figure out the best settings. I've also got DVDFab, ANYDVD HD, and a few others. So anyone with experience converting movies for use on the N2 please let me know what program & what settings you are using. What I'd really like to accomplish is to convert some of my Blu-Rays to the exact resolution of my screen.
Thanks in advance!!!

I'm wondering this as well. I see the phone will play some mkv files with h.264 but all players seem to not have audio with the exception of one (it was loaded with ads, forgot the name).
I used to have a free key for magic DVD ripper, but it stopped working.
I also tried handbrake but it never seemed to be able to sync audio with video.
Now I use DVD catalyst, which seems to make much larger files, but it works.
Auto gk is pretty good. I use it in conjunction with DVD fab decryptor, and DVD shrink in conjuction with DVD decryptor. There are a ton out there, and of you visit doom9(a video editing forum) there are plenty of guides. Good luck
Edit: mx player plays almost anything you throw at it, AMD vnc media player is great, but you have to sideload it after downloading from the net.
