[Q] Ugh! Search is useless! quick question - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry, I know I have seen it before and cannot find a thread readily available with the answer.
I flashed Atriarc(sp?) to test it out with the new launcher from Bionix. While I enjoy the launcher there were some things I just prefer in Bionix.
Question is, can I flash Bionix(2.2) over Atriarc(2.2.1) with no issue or do I need to Odin back 1st?
Again, I know I have seen this answered but I want to be clear and cannot find the thread. This is the 1st 2.2.1 Rom I have tried and am a little green in this area.
Thanks
For the record btw, there are some really solid things in this Rom that I can't wait to be ported or tweaked out.

you should be able to I have, and had no problem, but I usually disable the voodoo before doing so. FYI I have gone Bionix to Axura to trigger to Axura, To Atriarc and never odin'd back, but then, I do not care if i brick it,

I'm not worried about a brick if it happens by a faulty install. But I would rather not head straight TO a brick as the definitive result.
Thank you

Just odin wont kill you, its a 100% guarantee

Froyo for North American Vibrant?

So, wanted to know if there is a leaked Froyo update/Rom for the North American Vibrants? Most of the Froyo updates I have found seem to be for the i9000 model and not the t959 model! I would like the offical update but God only knows when thats going to come out! Im running Rooted Stock Rom with JI6 update and OCLF too. Sorry if this question has been asked a million times before. Any help would be great.thanks a million!

Trying to stay as close a to stock Rom as possible. Looking for a very basic froyo update/Rom as possible and would be easy to switch back to stock without to much trouble. Come to think of it.any One Click Froyo updates out there for the Vibrant T959 yet? Thanks again!

Don't know how new or experienced you are with flashing ROMs. If you're new, you will want to check out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732458
to help you come up to speed on your options and overall approaches.
Remember, if you flash from 2.2 back to 2.1 (which is really the only "official" stock available at the moment) you will need to flash an entire ROM or Kernal. Just performing a nandroid recovery won't work and will softbrick your phone (requiring you to use ODIN to fix it).
There are about 4 or 5 2.2-based ROMS in the Developers section. Check one or more of them out.
If you are cautious, then you might want to avoid the Overclocked, Undervolted, or Lagfix kernels for the time being.
And one last thought. Some of the ROMs will not work with OCLF. So, be sure to search their respective threads. Personally, I've tried Onyx and Axura and have found that both work great without a lagfix applied and have pretty good battery life. But YMMV, so read the thread and flash away!
Thanks for all your help guys

Watch the videos anyway because, god forbid, if anything goes wrong, you need odin to revert back to stock and try again.
Anyone have a direct download link to the unoffical tmobile froyo 2.2 leak update/Rom? And is there anyway to install it without a pc.my internet is down at the moment. Thanks

there's a flashable version posted somewhere in the development section.
also if you flash that version.. u might need to install busybox available in market.
i couldn't go to recovery when i flashed it, at least in my case.
2am zombie mode, too lazy to dig up the link for you.

Ok, so the unoffical tmobile froyo Rom seems to have been removed. Clicked on the link but not showing a download link now. If its still there what page is it on?

[Q] Noob questions about axura and lagfix

First off I wanna say I KNOW someone's going to catch a fit when they see this question. Most of you guys on XDA are extremly helpful and Im thankful for all the info I've acquired from the forums but someones gotta say it. Alot of guys arent the friendliest bunch when a noob such as my self asks a question that has probably been asked a million times but cant find the answers needed. I kno the same question over and over is annoying but keep in mind everyone was a noob once. With that being said, I want to say I looked for an answer to my question but couldnt find it, so if there are solutions to my problems elsewhere please simply point me in the right direction without replying all snooty like. Thanks. Anyways, heres my question:
I successfully rooted my vibrant and installed Axura 2.0.5 rom without a problem. I love this rom very much but it seems a bit laggy at times. Is there a lagfix already in effect for the 2.0.5 rom? If so How do I remove it? I was thinking about flashing one of eugenes kernal as I heard it works well with axura. Basically I would like to simply run axura and overclock my phone to 1.2 ghz. Any info is much appreciated.
*bump*
need help... anyone?
I noticed the lag as well.. everyone always says runs smooth and its quick.. iv always said bull****.. thats all i ever got was lag.. i tried overclocking all the way up to 1.4, i tried about all lagfixes with it. Iv even tried using multiple lagfixes and an Oc... i couldnt fix it...
So i dont know what to tell you.. just seems some people experiance this lag and others don't. And i dont know of any froyo roms that dont have this on my phone.. best iv gotten with a froyo rom would be probably R13 macnut.. but i still decide to stick with eclair even tho i dont like it as much.. i want froyo but cant deal with lag

Yes, im a noob too in this matter and encountered the same problem as the OP this is a really noob question but do the lagfixes found on the forums work with axura's froyo?
I noticed this same problem, but not to the same degree. The lag i got was very slight. Since I've moved up to axura (final)2.0.6 haven't noticed any lag and that is without a lagfix. Maybe you could try that, it worked for me. Pretty sure the link is still up in the development thread or you could go to his site that is also on the axura thread. Good luck
Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll try to look and research some more and see if there's anything I can do to alleviate the lag I'm getting. Lets hope I don't soft brick my phone again!
I actually just installed Auxura 2.1 and applied the voodoo lag fix. It seems to be running really well.
Go here to download Auxura 2.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821468
From this thread there are also links for the stock kernel, voodoo.zip and disable voodoo. Look under the heading Extras in the OP.
1. Flash Auxura 2.1.
2. Flash StockKernelAXURA.zip
3. Flash voodoo.zip
To disable voodoo, flash disable_voodoo.zip

Srry for the question but, is being on Axura Final ok too? Does this have to be done on Axura 2.1? Thx ahead for any answers
Sorry, I don't know if this would work on 2.0.6 as I've not flashed the kernel or the voodoo.zip. My guess would be that it should work.
As always make a backup and store it in a safe place and not just on the internal SD.
OMG thanks so much! Axura 2.1 is sooo much faster! BUT I find that gps does not work. I can live without this feature since I didnt really use it much anyways but is there a fix for this?

Flashing bionix-v

Just odined back to jfd, rooted and used oclf lagfix. Question is can I flash from this point or do I need to remove lagfix?

Thanks a million. I thought so but needed to be sure. P.s. I'm about to flash my FIRST custom rom any pointers.

The two top dogs around here imo are bionex or axura. Each have their own pros and cons (barely cons). I'm personal to Axura myself, although im still on nero v5. Been getting tired of redoing my homescreens over and over again. I suggest going into the release threads, found in developmet forum, for the respective roms and taking a look at screen shots and youtube search video reviews.
You really cant go wrong either way. Check out the rom bible thread for more awesome roms.
I would defantly stick with the Auxura rom or Som's Bionex rom, Ive bounced between the two, Each rom has it's own feel, while Axura's roms are ultra fast, The Bionex rom has more Gingerbread feel and smoothness, Make your own decesion, but as the previous poster said you can't go wrong with either of them.
Just a word of advice, get in the habbit of disabling Voodoo each time you flash, I made the mistake once and ended up softbricking the phone and it was a nightmare for me getting it back to stock via ODIN.
Good Luck
Actually, if you already have voodoo installed and the rom you're flashing to also has it, you don't need to disable it. I speak from experience

This is true, but new. It has only been that way for a little while. Also it ONLY is true if you are going from Voodoo 5 to Voodoo 5 (meaning the one that has the RED recovery).

Switching from 2.2 to 2.3.x. & back

First off....yes I've done alot of researching.
Thing is that there is soo much info that it is a little overwhelming.
As I understand....I can switch back and forth from 2.2 & 2.3.x and back thru cwm ....difference being that while in 2.3.x I cannot view the recovery screen but can still flash back thru cwm. And when I return to 2.2 I get recovery back so long as I haven't flashed the bootloaders for 2.3.x.
The reason im asking this is becuz I don't have a comp right now so using someone elses comp to odin back is a bit of a hassle for me.
Thanks for any and all input
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I can't speak for others but I can say personally I've done it many times without odin. I have nand backup of 2.2 on my phone. I have not installed gingerbread bootloaders. When I want to flash 2.3 roms, I factory reset and flash it. Sheree that I can't see recovery ofcourse. To switch back to my 2.2 backup, I keep kernel s like bali, overstock or any stock voodoo kernel on the phone. I use sgs kernel flasher from the market to flash those 2.2 kernel s. That puts the phone in bootloop but gives me red recovery. I then factory reset and restore my 2.2 backup. Has worked every time so far...btw everytime means atleast 20 times here.

Switching from 2.2 to 2.3 is fine, it will update as necessary.
Switching back down to 2.2, do as Alex recommended and you'll be fine.
Thank you very much guys! This was exactly what I needed to hear
Edit: wow I'm running minui now and it is going to take some getting use to....lol
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Actually I'm pretty sure you will need odin coming from cm7 or muiu. I don't think sgs kernel flasher will work since cm7 and muiu are all asop.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
It don't work I'm stuck in miui without a comp to Odin back......what a joke :-/
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
Just go to the stickies and pull all the goodies for Odin. It doesn't take that long to set up. Then you can just flash the GB bootloaders. Remember the GB BLs are backwards compatible.
By backwards compatible,do you mean that with gb bl's they work fine with 2.2?
Also I thought when on one 2.3 rom I could easily jump around to any 2.3 rom like with 2.2........but cwm is not allowing me to do this
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
You could jump around fine from any touchwiz based 2.3 rom (simply honey, asgard, malice) but not cm7 or miui
bootloaders for vibrant are backward compatible, you may have an extra boot splash logo but everything works the same. flashing bootloaders can be dangerous....So i would personally recommend staying on GB bootladers

CM7 and MUIU Roms are different, you can't jump back and forth from them because they use different file systems. they are much more complicated. the only way out is to odin back to stock I believe

Odin'ing back is probably the easiest way to get back. Flashing the bootloaders CAN be dangerous, but just follow the directions and voila! Not flashing bootloaders just cause it COULD cause problems is like not driving your car cause you COULD crash and burn into a fireball.
Just sayin...
But yes, they will work on Froyo roms as well.

We were all noobs at one point in time. Just continue to read and read and search and search again. Almost anything that could go wrong with the Vibrant has most likely already happened, and is searchable.
can you go from CM7 to MIUI directly or do you need to go back to stock first?
As it appears ....you have to Odin back first
Sent from my T959 using XDA App
Erm sorry mate, should ve mentioned cm7 and miui. I just assumed that its understood that you can't switch back from those without odin. All gingerbread roms have that in their first posts in no uncertain terms.

I've put my phone back on 2.2 and am going to leave it there. Having a heater in my pocket using up the battery 2x faster than normal and never knowing where I am got a little old. Mostly the battery part. If there's ever a leak, I'll go back, otherwise.. this phone's on 2.2 until I buy a new one.

Oldie needs some reminding about Froyo...

Hey guys. I haven't been on froyo in a LONGGG time.
Basically I flashed ics on my brothers phone because he here wanted it to look cool like mine lol.
Now after a few weeks he's getting like 2 hours on his battery. He's a heavy user.
I'm going to get him back onto froyo...
My question is which thread do I follow on instructions for froyo rom flashing I mean I remember the voodoo lag fix etc but I totally forgot how to enable etc.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda premium
Voodoo is enabled via recover if i remember.. just odin, root and flash rom and kernel.. then go into recov and turn on voodoo lol
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
Yeah alot of roms will enable after flash, I believe you have to repartition in Odin too or you'll throw it into a softbrick. Like the previous post said if it does not enable then for into your voodoo setting in the recovery and change it there.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
IIRC once you enable the lagfix and Linda does her thing, you should end up with 4 massive files on your internal called system/...Lzo, data/...Lzo or something like that (you'll know exactly what I am talking about when you see them), these can be deleted as Supercurio said they aren't needed. It is just what happens when the lagfix is engaged.
Thanks guys, but the lagfix wasn't like.. you know my only question.
I was trying to ask how i would go about Flashing the ROM.
Does this seem like a good method?
ODIN to stock
Flash any Froyo ROM without doing anything else
Enable voodoo if it already isnt enabled
isn't that like the basic thing i have to do? did i miss anything?
again thanks guys.
My bad. Yep just like you said. Maybe take care to make sure froyo bootloader but I guess if you Odin then that part is out of the equation.
