[Q] Speed Test On Atrix - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a Quick Question, I went to the ATT store and used a live Atrix, it belonged to the Sales Person, we Downloaded Speedtest, the results appeared very slow, or well below what should be expected 1.35 Mbps Down and 1.24Mbps Up, we Ran a IP-4 same store, 7.8Mbps Down and .80 Up
Can you explain this? Also the H+ icon in the display is lit, the Sales person said that represents HSUPA+, How can that be? AT&T formally stated in Android Central they havent turned it on yet
Lastly, I am concerned as a Consumer and a Begginer to Android, The Atrix I was using had the Icon H+ Lit up, and clearly I was told the Atrix was on the HSUPA+ Network for AT&T. The Story and Facts PUBLISHED in Android Central the other day, clearly state that AT&T has NOT turned the Atrix HSUPA+ Codes on for the phone on its network yet. If that is indeed correct? then How can the H+ be lit up.?
This is Certainly not what AT&T advertised or what Sanjay Jha said we should expect from Atrix.
The Atrix is 10X's the power IP-4 posseses the Speed Test was run at the same time as well and same servers.
I thank all of you in advance who share your insight on this matter.
Thank you all!

The H+ icon just means you have 3G or 4G. I can't remember where I read that but thats why. I think I read it on PocketNow

no 3g?

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here so please be gentle...lol. I just switched to Tmobile from Sprint and for some reason I either have 2g or 4g....I know the phone doesn't have a 3g icon, I'm talking about actual speeds. Whenever I leave a 4g area, according to Tmobile coverage map I should have 3g but I never do, I travel a lot between San Antonio tx and Houston and the whole way over there I have 2g....is this normal or is there something wrong with my phone...Tmobile can't find a problem, thanks for any help.
Tmobiles customer service has dwindling. May I ask why the change from sprint?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Well I changed for two reasons, one...Sprint sux..and two, they've been making a lot of changes ever since they got the iPhone and I didn't like them...since my contract was up, I jumped ship.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am nearly sure that there is 3G but you don't realize it because it shares the same 4G icon.

Unfortunately T-Mobile 3 and 4 g is mostly in major cities. I was on a trip in the west recently, and while I had reception all along the highways, it was connecting on 2g only. That is pretty typical.

Must be your unlucky day
Few months ago I was on 290 Aus-Hou and I got Tmo 3G all the way, tethering to my laptop so my kid can watch his cartoon on youtube
Encounter a little problem on the way and I called Tmo, they instructed me to turn-on Data Roaming and Always Enable Data in Setting/Wireless and Network and it works flawlessly. You will not be charge for domestically data roaming.

[Q] Amaze on AT&T?

There are a few topics on this question, but they are several months old now. I wanted to get an update on if anything has changed or if workarounds have been found or what not.
First, does anyone know if there are newer "versions" of the phone itself that might have fixed some issues afew topics have gone over? (light bleed, non working soft buttons, high heat ect..) and how to tell which one is the new version?
2nd How can you tell which Amaze will work and which one will not? I found this one.. Amaze on Amazon but the pic shows it with a T-mobile branding, which ive read doesn't work with 3/4g on AT&T.
So were (online) could you pick up one that would work with it, and how difficult is it to get it to work with it?
My current phone (the TP2) was just a matter of popping in the at&t card and going. Looks like the price has come down at least alittle bit, but im curious if it would be worth the effort to get the amaze and try to shimmy it on to AT&T, or wait for a newer phone.
[edit] On a side note, what is happening with the Amaze? Im noticing while the Sensation is still listed, HTC's site doesnt appear to show the Amaze at all, like it never existed.. are they trying to phase it out of existence?
The amaze, after being sim unlocked, does support at&t 3g/4G bands. It will have no problems running on at&t. I don't think that there have been any hardware revisions. So the flash bleed is just luck of the draw. My original didn't have it. My replacement does..
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
The Amaze works just fine on AT&T's high-speed 3/4g UMTS/HSPDA+ data bands. It will not work on AT&T's newer LTE services -- which aren't necessarily any faster in real life than their non-LTE service, and AT&T's LTE network is still being built.
At some point AT&T may shut down the UMTS/HSPDA+ service but they've got an awful lot of phones in the field already using it.
Regarding word that the Amaze will be discontinued, the very fact that this phone launched during while the AT&T/T-mo merger was "coming" seems likely to have driven the decision to make it so it supported both AT&T & T-mo bands. Now that the merger is off, I wonder if T-Mo doesn't want a phone that might have the ability to roam onto AT&T's high-speed network. I don't know if it can roam this way, but I love the fact that this phone that can work really well, high-speed data and voice, with my choice of service by 2 U.S. carriers.
I got a used one on the forum. It's the T-mobile branded one works flawlessly with AT&T HSDPA after unlock. Speed test shows consistant 2.6-3.2 mbps download here in NYC area. Signal is strong and sound quality is great, best of all the phones I've had. (DHD sound quality being the 2nd best)
Unfortunately, the one I got had light bleed but it will only stand out if you are viewing something with dark background which is a rare case during my personal usage. Not sure if future kernel release can make the touch pad light dimmer or disable it completely.
Best phone I've used so far.

Congrats on the Amaze, as for the light bleed, the only way to fix it is to disable the light source. This can be done on rooted phones, a little searching will point you in the right direction if that is a solution. Otherwise there is little that can be don to dim the lights, kind of an all or nothing situation.

Thanks for the tip. I do remember reading something about that that some where but never bothered me as much since I don't find myself staring at a black screen as much.
Another reason I got this phone besides its solid build is the worldwide 3g support. I get to travel to asia once a while and it can utilize the WCDMA used in many asia countries.
Thanks guys. Now im just curious if they still sell "un-branded" phones. As the one i linked appears to be T-mobile branded. Id work i guess, but you know

Someone correct me if wrong, I think Canada carrier (Telus, Wind) do have unbranded Amaze. Without getting too technical, the telus one have the same 3g band as At&t and wind one has the same 3g band as T-mobile. Only the T-mobile branded ones can work with both.

Kinda wrong.
All of the Amazes are Quad-band phones, but are sim-locked (carrier locked). If you unlock it, it can be used on either network.
If you don't unlock it, then only on the original network.

what I was referring to was only the 3g connectivity.
Well, i dont have a 4g sim atm, but i did see if unlocked that its suppose to work with 4g?
Anyway that just leaves finding a trusted source to purchase it from.
I am currently using it with AT&T here, 4g symbol showing. While I am not sure what's the standard used to measure the 4g speed but I feel it's much faster than my other sensation 4g phone.
Both phone are connected to the hsdpa network and speedtest consistently showing higher download speed than my sensation.

You using the T-mobile Amaze unlocked with AT&T? Did you buy it unlocked or get it from the carrier and unlock it yourself?
Course im also pondering if its worth it to wait for a quad core phone that is supposedly coming this year? Who knows.
got it on the forum, locked but the seller was kind enough to give me the unlock code. Everything is running fine. This is definitely the best phone used so far

[Discussion]T-Mobile Unlocked HOX+ Users

Hey yall I just wanted to start a discussion thread for T-Mobile like me who are braving T-Mobile's refarmed network and using the HTC One X+ (International or unlocked AT&T variant). Maybe we can get a few tips and tricks together to make our user experience a bit better.
For example, such radios yall are using, any build.prop edits that might help data speeds or GPS locking speed (if you are using the international version like I am).
Ill update the OP with the list of suggestions, maybe an FAQ.
I've been using the Phone Info app to turn off the LTE radio, although I'm not entirely sure that is does. I use the GSM auto mode which is the default on 3G non LTE phones. The default on the One X+ is GSM/WCDMA/LTE
Is anyone experiencing weak or wavering 3G signal (over PCS) as discussed toward the end of this thread (scroll down about halfway on page three)?
http://forums.tmonews.com/index.php?topic=18318.40
The very knowledgeable posters there say that T-Mobile is using less power on PCS (WCDMA), as compared to AWS, right now. And probably won't turn it up until they start shifting AWS to LTE.

Definitely especially indoors. I get full bars of PCS where available, but indoors I'm switching between 3G/"4G" and Edge.

Do you have a phone with AWS 3G to compare in the same location and see if it has better 3G reception?

Yep, my Nexus 4 gets constant HSPA+ where I get spotty PCS
I have a question for you guys that are using the HOX+ on T-mobile.
What type of sim card are you using?
I know that on the original HTC One X, you had to use a non-gba sim card that said 50.01 on the front to make it work, and that if you used the one that said 50.05 you wouldn't get data even if you change the APN settings.
I just bought this phone a few minutes ago on Amazon and I know Houston is a 1900MHZ pcs market so that's not an issue, i just want to make sure I don't run into any issues with the sim card I have as it is fairly new.

Well I cut my sim from a regular SIM card so there aren't really numbers on it. I think you'll be safer with a newer one than an older one so you're fine.
Also located in Houston and getting pretty good 3G
I tried to sign up over at tmonews forums and registration for new users is closed. Anybody have any insight as to when that will reopen?
I believe one of the reasons TMO has to go with lower power at first is to measure the impact of their new 1900mhz spectrum usage in the existing market in question. Since other carriers are using the same spectrum they need to make sure they do not cause interference. The best way to do that is short and long term RF studies. Start off with a refarmed freq at lower power then over time bump up the power and make sure it doesnt cause any new interference. If so then your able to go to a higher power. Im sure the FCC has time constraints for this but add into it the amount of towers im sure the carrier would rather accomplish more with each visit. So if an upgrade or tweek is needed then they can also adjust the power.
Forgot to add i recently acquired the ATT version of the HTC ONE X+ 64GB and it does ok in the Dallas area. Had it switch a few times to G and E but for the most part i stays on 4G. HSPA+21.6 DL speeds go between 2megs down and 9 megs down.
Prior to that i was using a Nexus 4 and TMO GS3. I seem to have better speeds with my GS3.

The forums have been like that for a while (at least months). Don't know why. Perhaps you can email the person who writes the blog and ask about it.
I live in the Orlando area, I am on Straight Talk. I was using an at&t compatible SIM from straight talk and got up to 7mb down and 1.5mb up but these speeds were not consistent, a few days ago I switched to a t -mobile compatible SIM from straight talk and now I get consistent 12mb down and 3mb up. I was very surprised! I'm so glad I did this switch
I am using an at&t 1X+ which I unlocked.

All, nice threat. just got this phone and unlocked the bootloader today. how can i unlock the simcard to use on tmo? i know we have LTE here and I am dying to see what kind of speeds i can get on this phone. thanks all

HSPA+ on Solavei?

I attempted to do my homework on device compatibility beforehand so as to avoid the shock of something like being stuck on EDGE for data. Nevertheless even with a video review showing the DNA operating HSPA+ on Solavei I am stuck on dreaded EDGE. The activation period took a couple of hours with my new phone (DNA) being able to dial out but SMS/MMS non functional as well as calls to my handset. EDGE was running during this time but after a bit I saw it flash to 3G then H.....success! NOPE. At this point I verified SMS and all calls were working and my phone seemed to want to connect to HSPA+ but was having network communication issues when trying to run speed tests. I attributed all this to my home location, it having always with any carrier been quite on the outskirts of general coverage even though I'm only 1/4 mile from town which is a bit ludicrous in itself. Later that night I drove a little into town to test the data and alas H+ lit up, ran a speed test 2.5MB download...not to shabby IMO. Next day I drive to work and into the center of my home area where the best coverage is for ANY carrier and the entire trip H+ only lit up for a few seconds. Ever since there is no change in data always on E. I called Solavei and told them the issue and they pretty much gave me the runaround and couldn't definitively explain why it worked for a short period but wouldn't now. I can't 100% confirm that T-Mobile has refarmed the area to 1900Mhz but I read my city in a list of 49 in an article that said they were done. This being said I'm forced to let this month play out until possibly switching carrier perhaps one that uses AT&T instead. I asked Straight Talk about my device and they said they offer SIMs for both AT&T and T-Mobile but AT&T is limited to 3G service only whilst T-Mobile should work for HSPA+. I don't know if this a T-Mobile issue or a Solavei one or it's just my phone, but don't see how it could be the phone since it was up and running briefly.
I use T-Mobile and my connection is all over the place at times, refarming is actually the reason I think, its going for the strongest signal, if its edge, it gets edge towers, until the refarm is done I think we'll continue to see this kind of behavior for awhile. As time has gone by its gotten better around here with less time on edge and more on 3g/h+ since I first got the phone.
I can't vouch for at&t but no h+ sounds a little strange to me, if anything bands wise they should be more compatible then T-Mobile.

It sounds like the refarm is much more of a gradual process than a one and done. At least I hope so or else there's not much to look forward to there. I know the Solavei rep was full of complete and utter BS since she told my phone was incompatible since it wasn't on their database of phones to service APN settings OTA. I may try out Straight Talk or Net10 just to see how the AT&T network speed performs.
Sorry for my ignorance, does the DNA really get H+ (42Mbs) ? On GSM network?
Thanks

No reason it can't, hardware supports it if you have the connection to do it. In my coverage I'm usually edge or 3g so I can't say for sure.

I ended up leaving solavei (T-Mobile) for net10 (at&t) The coverage is worlds apart in terms of hspa. I get it everywhere though the speeds fluctuate but are decent. T-Mobile definitely needs to expand coverage it was not good where I lived about 80% was edge.

4 LTE in u.s.?

I believe this phone is capable of using LTE in the US. It has all the right frequencies so I would believe the hardware should be there. I've tried several different APN settings and called customer service to confirm my IMEI with AT&T customer service but I cannot get LTE speeds. Anyone else in the u.s. experiencing the same problems?
barely works in Europe, from the product page i bought it from on Aliexpress they said the 4g wouldn't work in the States .
here majority of the time it drops to 3g and when it does the internet doesn't work at all.
lost count how many times I've had to search again for my network just to refresh the signal.
the antenna in this phone was poorly placed. putting sim in slot 1/2 doesn't matter.
I've gone back to my nexus 5 with zero problems on 4g.
thats really disheartening. I knew there would be a catch to this phone somewhere. And it would appear that the phone does not support 4G LTE bands in the US. .
3.5G umtcs however it does, which is close to 4G speeds. But I do not know how many towers in the US run those frequencies, I will post my findings if I can get HSPA+ or above on a regular basis.
I have noticed my signal fluctuate a lot, Sad that the most basic feature is the most troublesome, this phone comes so close. I wonder if this is something development can resolve or if its just a poor radio.
It will but with network B bands. I think in July.
Check their blog
Really? A coming update in July? I will look on their blog
I live in the UK, but just holidayed in the US this summer...My 9000 wouldn't work for calls, although I read they're bringing out a US version soon. Used it for satnav in 3 states though with no problems.
