Hi everyone, this is my first post on here so please be gentle...lol. I just switched to Tmobile from Sprint and for some reason I either have 2g or 4g....I know the phone doesn't have a 3g icon, I'm talking about actual speeds. Whenever I leave a 4g area, according to Tmobile coverage map I should have 3g but I never do, I travel a lot between San Antonio tx and Houston and the whole way over there I have 2g....is this normal or is there something wrong with my phone...Tmobile can't find a problem, thanks for any help.
Tmobiles customer service has dwindling. May I ask why the change from sprint?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
Well I changed for two reasons, one...Sprint sux..and two, they've been making a lot of changes ever since they got the iPhone and I didn't like them...since my contract was up, I jumped ship.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am nearly sure that there is 3G but you don't realize it because it shares the same 4G icon.

Unfortunately T-Mobile 3 and 4 g is mostly in major cities. I was on a trip in the west recently, and while I had reception all along the highways, it was connecting on 2g only. That is pretty typical.

Must be your unlucky day
Few months ago I was on 290 Aus-Hou and I got Tmo 3G all the way, tethering to my laptop so my kid can watch his cartoon on youtube
Encounter a little problem on the way and I called Tmo, they instructed me to turn-on Data Roaming and Always Enable Data in Setting/Wireless and Network and it works flawlessly. You will not be charge for domestically data roaming.

No one is on the network. If no one was on T-Mobile's 3G network you would be seeing 6Megs regularly on a 7.2HSPA device. I can also post up some 14Mbps+ speed tests from T-Mobile but these speeds are impossible with the devices used to get them..
Depends on the area. For example, here in Aurora sprint gets me 300 down Ans 500 up, very bad. Tmobile is fastest wrh 1.5mbps down and 600up. In Georgia, it's opposite.

I live in Atlanta. T-mobile is faster than AT&T in my neck of the woods. AT&T has *slightly* better coverage
Hit 4085/1319 in Vegas today, T-Mobile
I live in Atlanta and this is my speed pretty much all over the city, even in the outskirts and suburban areas
Seeing all the DL speed in MB, I am assuming all your phones are rooted and lag fix installed? Thanks.
I fall right between Jax and Sav... I get overflow from both and as long as your ina good are TMO has the fastest serv... not the most reliable bc of all the switching from E to 3g..
But in this small town some 3g is better than no 3g but on bad weather days I have to switch to 2g only bc of all the flip flopping..

I live in Clearwater (Tampa Bay area) Florida and I can max out speeds on my G1 regularly. Tallahassee, on the other hand, has probably the worst data coverage I've ever seen for Tmo. It's a very rare thing to even see EDGE in Tallahassee.

PR 3G just went live too. Beggars can't be choosers.
Network speeds is a varying thing. Now if You go by what they tell you then Tmo is first with 21mbps, Sprint second with 10mbps, Then AT&T with 7.2mbps, and lastly Verizon with 1.8mbps or is 2.4mbps. Either way you'll never get those speeds well using Sprint I get close or more with their 3G depending on the day though.
So without using LTE or any other two radio trick (wifi, 3g & Wimax) can you talk on the phone & use data at the same time?
it does in some areas from what ive seen. there is a video on youtube. but i havent tried it yet since im on wifi most of the time

Works great for me, actually used it the other day. Fantastic
I was actually using it in Blaine which is North of Minneapolis. About time they add this feature, wish they would have done it a long time ago. With LTE coming data would have worked with voice but still I'm glad they added it.
I was able to do a Google search while on the phone the other day in Boston. Haven't configured the home wifi yet (nor is it turned on) and no LTE (set to CDMA only). I still don't understand how it is possible on a CDMA network, but I can confirm it worked.

My office is across from the 7-11 in Edgewood, seems decent here... I haven't been out in the field with the new phone..but my old EVO wasn't bad as far as getting signal at either Edgewood Area or Aberdeen so I'm hoping the new one is the same..Are you having problems?
Inside Sprint Now posted a clarification on SVD (simultaneous voice & data) recently:
Sprint 4G LTE phones can acheive Simultaneous Voice and Data (SVD) when connected to a WiFi router.
They may also achieve SVD when connected to Sprint’s LTE or CDMA networks.
Sprint 4G LTE phone customers may not see a consistent SVD experience on Sprint’s networks based on numerous conditions.
SVD should not be guaranteed to our external customers.
SVDO is possible on Sprint’s LTE phones/handsets, without assistance of LTE or WiFi, utilizing 1x and DO.
Works only in optimal network conditions.
Experience not consistent with SVDO; in weaker coverage, voice will take sole priority.
SVD can be achieved with either LTE or WiFi coverage.
CDMA + LTE, or CDMA + WiFi should be the primary combinations to achieve simultaneous voice and data, as with previous phones/handsets.
If utilizing SVDO, the experience will vary, however, if in optimal conditions data speed will be consistent with EvDO speeds.

Today I lost all data. Sprint says it is because they are updating their towers. Should I have this problem all over Dallas? My wifes phone works fine. Spent an hour with tech no luck. I went to the Sprint store and they just said people have been coming in all day.
My two friends with the same phone have no issues and one other with a rooted phone has issues. I hope I didn't lose data because I rooted my phone.
Any one else having these issues?
You can be certain that it isn't the rooting itself that would cause your data issue. Try going into your settings>Mobile Network: and where it says "Network Mode" select it and choose "CDMA Only" and see if you can connect then. With network vision being so close I would image alot of strange things are going on in those areas (im in the atlanta market but havent experience and problems). And one guess I have is since data is fine on a non LTE-device, it's almost CERTAINLY a tower work kind of error. Our phones (lte phones) have different PRL's than non LTE phones so our phones choose what towers to connect to , and how to connect to them, differently. I'm sure this will be remedied extremely soon. probably fine by the time you wake up in the morning.
Im in Grapevine/colleyville and I frequently loose data for a sec, but not long periods of time. It's cause of the lte roll out. Should be all good on july 15th
Thanks guys, puts my mind at ease. Can't wait til it's here.
Live in Dallas work in grapevine, same issues. Hoping 15th roll out solves everything, luckily I'm on WiFi at home and work so its not overly unbearable. Grapevine however I have trouble with text sometimes.

Im actually having the same issue here in Houston. If network mode is set to LTE/CDMA, i get no data. Still shows 3G, but the arrows that show receive/transmit show the transmit arrow solid. Where if I change my network mode to CDMA only, data works fine.
So HOPEFULLY it is as suggested, tower work due to Network Vision. Fingers crossed!
Yeah I have the same problem . I loose data complety . Sprint said it should work. I don't know if its the phone prl or the towers . I also heard a few people say it was happening to people with rooted phones but I really don't know . I live in fort worth and loose data 20 plus times a day .

Same issue in Austin. The CS rep I'm talking to speculates it might be tied to the storms in the NE/midwest.
I'm also getting errors updating my PRL and profile.
On hold with tech support right now. Once I'm done, I'll try setting my network mode to CDMA only and see if that helps.
Well today i had no signal and everyone i know had no signal we all have sprint. Sprint said as we speak they were working on the vision project for the towers for lte and from what i read online today was they day they were working in my area. The plan for lte was to start with the small towns around Chicago and then chicago last so people in Chicago could pick up signals from near by areas until the towers in Chicago get updated. Theres more cell towers in chicago alone then the rest of illinois combined so this make perfect since. I'm from Rockford Illinois and i have horrible 3g speeds. Hoping they flip this lte switch soon.

Things are working for me again. Sprint tech guy had me dial ##72786# and input the password 033322. From their, he had me hit menu and reset.
The phone rebooted and reactivated. Then I updated my profile and prl. Those failed the first few times, but they worked when I set the network mode to cdma only. Switched back to cdma/lte and everything's back to normal.
The tech did confirm that we were feeling echoes of the network disruption (due to a storm) in the northeast.

I have issues getting good signal with my m8 on at&t, anyone else ? Actually I"am on straight talk which uses at&t service.
Not sure if the bad signal is just my area or if its my phone.
I can get LTE when I"am out and about, and it shows good signal, but my data speeds are not really that great for LTE being maybe 8 to 15 mbps yeah its good but should be more according to most users.
I live in Ohio and have absolutely no signal indoors and if I go out to the road I can pick up some weak edge signal which is like scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as data.
I have heard from people at a local at&t store that at&t took over the last of the alltel towers and something about July, but no one seems to be able to tell me anything about my area, and at&t maps show I"am supposed to have good service here so I dont know if its their service or my phone.
And being on straight talk its not like they will be able to help me with signal issues as you might as well be talking to yourself than call their customer service, as they cant even help you with how to set up call forwarding as they say its not listed as a feature with straight talk, pretty sad yes lol.
Does anyone work for at&t that can tell me if I will be getting alltel towers working in my area ?
In Ohio from zip 44830 Fostoria starting a few miles north going out of town on state route 199 basically all the way to state route 6 there is basically no service on my m8 as all I show is edge this is like a 10 to 15 mile stretch of nothing. Now if you turn west on state route 6 then you get a little better then a few miles you get LTE coverage.
Hoping someone from at&t can clue me in on this area because my m8 just sucks for service and I"am supposed to have good coverage here according to the at&t coverage maps.

Have you used more than 2.5Gb of data? Probably not, since they throttle you to 2G/Edge once you do & you'd sure notice that slow down much more. It may very well be a QOS prioritization for AT&T post paid accounts. If it is a big AT&T area, you may be getting second tier LTE, as opposed to high priority service.
What is the exact APN you are using? att mvno or the proxy mvno?

Oh no I have used maybe 100 mb's this month at the most and I have never even used a gb ever, as I use wifi from home most of the time.
Yes they could be giving me a slower LTE speed, possibly so that could be the reason on LTE.
But the no service here would not be because of that, must either be their weak towers or lack of towers here or my m8 ?
Oh forgot you asked which apn I was using. I have tried the one for straight talk and one for at&t mvno see the screen shots that I added a few posts after this one.
Mine works great on at&t. Lte everywhere here in Atlanta. 20-70mbs downstream. Comparing with old phones, Signal is about the same as my gs4, a little bit better than my m7, and it is WAY better than my nexus 5. Wifi on this phone is the best I have ever seen. Works out in my yard while mowing the grass.

I live in an area where I don't get very good signal as it is, and I've noticed that when I'm in an area that's already bad it seems to be a little worse then my Note 3 was, I am constantly having to re-start my phone because texts are failing, but if I'm in an area that has moderate to good coverage, its as good, if not better, then any phone I've had.
Slightly better than my old ONE X but still solid in Salt Lake Area.
I'm on AT&T in Los Angeles. I have the WWE edition on 4.4.3 (ARHD, 2.22.401.4 firmware}. My LTE speed is terrible. I'm averaging 5MB down. If I put my SIM into my Nexus 4, it gets 15 MB easy on 4G. I've tried switching radios, and switching to the US/Dev firmware (2.22.1540.3). I can't get more than 5MB no matter what. I wondering if it's because AT&T hasn't released the 4.4.3 update yet. Does that seem reasonable?

Is anyone else whos on sprint/TMobile having issues where the phone cant decide wether to connect to a sprint or TMobile tower? When im at my home i have a very weak TMobile 600mhz signal and a strong sprint band 41 signal due to the magic box. I also can pick up the band 25 signal the box uses and my phone refuses to just use the stronger faster sprint signal. It absolutely insists on using the TMobile signal. Is anyone having similar issues? Even on wifi its causing network interruptions so i have to reload a page several times to make it use the wifi.

I have no idea of this is related but.. I'm on T-Mobile, with T-Mobile home internet as well, and for the last several days my phone is having issues connecting and the home WiFi is doing the same thing. I'm in a rural area so my signal is weak, but it's been fluctuating WILDLY since the merger and sometimes it does seem like my phone is struggling trying to decide what to connect to. There's definitely something going on with the network at least in my area for the last 2 weeks for sure

Sounds like this will be happening until the transition is done/5G is more widespread. These are TMobile models. When mine was first turned on at the store it had the T-Mobile splash screen. The ability to access sprint towers was added via software update post merger. I figure once the 600mhz band is fully rolled out the issue will go away as a result of the signal being strong enough.
