Hi all,
First of all, thanks for all the hard work done by everybody and of course we have to praise ourselves to take the risk in upgrading these unofficial ROMs.
I would like to list all the problems and their solutions for this WM2005 ROM in this topic.
1. This is only for Himalaya. Don't think it is suitable for xdaIIs, mini or xdaIIi.
2. Activesync 4 is not working with USB. ---------- Work after disable fire wall!!!
3. Setting Memory lost problem e.g. set button to do other task, set backlight brightness to middle, set user name, word completion setting, etc. they will return to original after a softreset - seems okay now w/ the full RAM version
4. Of course the biggest issue is the RAM size, Program memory size, etc. too small. ----- okay now w/ the full RAM version.
5. No MSN messager.----- okay now w/ the full RAM version.
6. Can't sync word files, it will change to pwi and the Activesync conversion setting doesn't have the file type for doc.----- okay now w/ the latest activesync.
7. Extrom missing ----- Found as storage now by using extrom tool.
8. can't make regional setting to Chinese even after installing knife Chinese patch. Can read chinese in fie explorer but not wmp or PIE.
9. Does it work w/ backpack? i have the backpack and can see the extra power bar but cant use cf wifi card.
Pls reply with your solutions if you have.
Many thanks.
Cheers,
yeah, agree to the bugs..
but my active sync4 works... min requirements is xp sp2. Uninstall previous sync, install sync 4..
other problems in magneto:
no camera and record button.
active sync program cannot be stop in ppc
no mms
thinking of other..
tho.. i love this OS and can sleep with the "bugs" and can wait for til fixes will come out (just do softreset if hangs )
tnx xda-developers,buzz(2005 guru) and kababayans toenailed, jojo for helping buzz..
camera and record buttons work on mine.
1. call end button does not work.
2. re-dial malfunction: uses last call recieved instead of last number dialed.
reverted to 2003se briefly to use my bible today
will revert later

Many of the things you're stating are not quite valid. What you have is Windows CE 5.0, not Windows Mobile 2005. The added programs such as Messenger, camera app, Word etc. are all added programs that define Windows Mobile. You're working with just the core operating system right now. These are also things that I'm *sure* won't be overlooked when Windows Mobile 2005 goes live.

I have also noticed that the the date and time revert after a soft reset, this is resolved on sync. in addition i have had problems syncing with exchange server useing ssl. I generated a hole new set of certificates to do it, still no joy, though it work without it. I would like to test the GPRS if any one has the settings for O2 contract mobile web. I have not as yet been able to detect it with SMS server either. i lost my phone for a while too. other than that I love it!!
USB activesync
Here's my observation:
AS4 works on a PC with USB 2.0 port.
AS4 does not work on a PC with USB 1.1 port.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Only with Win XP with all updates or does it works with W2K, too?
my PC
Btw, here's my PC specs:
>PC with USB 1.1 - runs Win XP Pro w/ SP2
>PC with USB 2.0 - runs Win XP Pro w/ SP2 also
I based my observations on that. I may be wrong. So if someone can successfully sync Magneto w/ AS4 running on Win XP SP2 on a USB 1.1 port, let us know. Thanks!
My workaround on not being able to sync w/ a USB 1.1 Win XP SP2 PC is to sync using bluetooth.
Hi all,
Activesync works fine for me usb1.1/usb2.0 and i've just test it in bluethooth mode and it works !!
ACtivesync can be stop from ppc but sometimes the action respond later.
Camera application works but is very slow.
The major problem is the memory, i've ever crash pocket outlook database with this problem.

active sync 4.0 problems
Hello Xpirate !!!
If it doesnot work try to reinstall Active Sync 4.o beacuse everyone gets problem with that because it is BETA version and during installation choose Repair. Then soft reset your computer and resync your device. If u have saved all your e-mail and contacts and appointments to your outlook then u can choose to delete partnership.
1. Open Active Sync
2. Choose File
3. choose delete partnership
make a sync and your problem is solved !!
MORE PROBLEMS
HI, from all the problems you have mentioned, i have only got
1 My camera and Rec buttons are not working.
2 of course there is very little memmory left for anything, just do "STOP ALL"
before doing something major. )
3. My date and Time resets on an irregular basis, not every soft reset though.
4. all the proggys seem to be working just fine, it's just that you have to
install some of them on to the DEVICE which takes our pressious space away.
5. NO LUCK WITH xBACKUP. Device just hangs. I have tried to copy .EXE file from 2003se, and simply override it but even that didnot help.
6. "AS4 will not stop in PPC" TOTALLY AGREE. VERY ANNOYING as it tend to eat some RAM.
THE REST LATER, IF SOMETHING COMES UP.
OH YES, FORGOT TO SAY THAT NO MATTER HOW MANY BUGS, I AM LOVING EVERY MOMENT TESTING THIS OS. ))
hi,,gays i have i have only one proplem that the device coluld'nt sync with the active sync 4 which is defirent of yours in my device the camera and record key working 100% (i dont know how it works in device and don work in other device and also syncing)
 i think these depend on the perv ver of windows (i was using 2.20.07 chs and the devise could'nt sync but the camera and record works fine and the others whose devises could sync they may was using 2.06 or 1.72 rom :? :?
here's some more bugs
More bugs:
> When turning ON flight mode, it indeed shuts off the GSM radio BUT the Green LED still blinks for another 20-30 seconds then finally switches off
> Assuming flight mode is ON (GSM radio is off), there's no way you can turn OFF flight mode (turn on GSM radio) unless you perform a SOFT RESET
> Unable to set MIDI files as ring tones (midiringtone.cab is not installed, haven't tried installing it) but the GREAT thing is you can set .mp3 files as ring tones!
> Assuming power is off (nothing is displayed on screen), pressing the record button wakes up the XDA II (sometimes the record app launches then records, but after pressing "stop record" button, it records again then again then again...so you have to stop record app forcibly-"Stop All" in the memory app)
Why I cannot mark all contacts to beam them to my handsfree carkit at once via BT? I´ve got to mark every single contact, choose Beam, waiting for BT, sending, next contact. In this way, I was only able to send approximatly 2-3 contacts per minute. Any suggestions?
Hope some one can help me with this one....
I have wm2005 on a spv m1000 (o2 xds2) running no problems, everything is great, BT, phone, activesync via cradle etc etc
big problem i have is i cannot get my contacts and calendar to sync from outlook (2003 sp1)
i keep getting error coming up, support code 85010014 with a little while exclamation mark in a red circle next to my activesync icon.
I can explore the pda but for some reason cannot sync with it... ?
please help otherwise i'll have to revert back to me 2003se....
Here's another interesting problem. I can sync perfectly in the office, but the device is not recognized at home. I've upgraded to Act Sync 4.0 and Act Sync recognizes the old PDA from my wife (only once, but it will start each time) but it doesn't recognize my WM2005. Looking in network connections using use server-assigned IP address it indicates that it is not connected. However putting the device into the cradle gives a ping on the PC. I've looked into the device manager on the PC looking for the Act Sync dll under hidden devices but couldn't find it. There was some strange sign in there which I took out, but now I get the message that Wbutton.sys is missing (maybe somebody can mail it to me) but I can't imagine that this is the reason why it won't work. I've reinstalled Act Sync a couple of times without succes. So after reading the forums for quite some time now I'm without any clue at this point and I could do with some practical advice :?
WM2005 + Outlook
Heres another for you.
I upgraded to WM2005 and activesync 4 and it would sync everything from outlook 2003 no problem then for no reason it just stopped and displays the 85010014 error. Tried reinstalling activesync removing all traces and even reflashing with a newer version of wm2005 with no luck.
I've just been playing around with exchange server and syncing my phone directly to it over wifi (bypassing pc activesync) and it worked briefly, now it comes up with an error message saying "activesync encountered a problem on the server (with a support code: 0x85010014).
Seems to me that its a problem on the phone rather than activesync on pc.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Update !!
reset xda2 back to wm2003 then went back to wm2005 and everything was fine !!!!
really weird that !, never mind, must have been an install error,
BTW :- Buzz's max ram version of wm2005 is excellent !
I have had some weird AS4 probs too, but if I temporarily disable my zonealarm firewall, it works fine every time.
yes disable windows firewall ... solved my problem (wm2005 AS4(via usb))
Same prob. here. At first had a prob. with driver. Had to install ActiveSync 4 before upgrading to WM5. ActiveSync 4 with WM2003SE works just fine. Syncing with upgraded WM5 device is a No-Go.
Am looking into it. Keep you posted!
Any help is welcome. Tim.

Same prob here with Zone Alarm, the connection isn't getting picked up as a new program for some reason so it doesn't ask for permission through the firewall.
Looking forward to a solution!
I can't revert back to WM2003 after flashed WM2K5. The HimaUpgradeUt waited too long, and then showed MODEL ID ERROR.
How can I force it to return to old 2003 version? Thanks

Just add the ip address and sub net of your xda into Zone Alarm and it will work fine. Did for me.
I recently upgraded my PDA2k to WM5 along with the new AS4.0 Beta, and recieved the same 85010014 error. I found the resolution through a thread regarding the same error code on the Internet. Typically, I choose "Work Offline" when I start Outlook. The thread directed me to connect directly to my Exchange server for the first sync. Afterwards, I was able to sync while in my typical "Work Offline" mode.
Hope this helps.
I solved my ActiveSync problem with Error 85010014.
I also run Eudora and Incredimail Plugin for Outlook on both PCs, Work and Home. Both are on XP Pro SP2 and when I installed ActiveSync 4.1 on my work PC without issue, I decided to attack my Home PC Outlook installation to see if I could resolve the issue.
So, At home:
Putting Outlook in Offline mode did not solve the problem.
I uninstalled ActiveSync 4.0 and installed ActiveSync 4.1 - No difference.
I backed up Outlook via 3rd party program to grab account settings as well as my 2GB pst file then ran Help->Detect and Repair... - reboot, no difference.
I then ran Control Panel -> Add or remove Programs -> Office 2003 and chose to modify my installation by adding or removing components. I unchecked Outlook and updated it to remove Outlook from my Office 2003 suite. Then returned to this option and re-checked Outlook to add it back to my Office 2003 Suite, CD-Rom in hand but updating, it did not ask for the Office 2003 Install CD-Rom... - Rebooted and connected - Bingo NO 85010014 error!
I am using an XDA upgraded to WM2003SE. It has been working great for 2 weeks with some minor gliches here and there. Suddenly today it will not sync. Tried soft and Hard resets to no avail. Can some one make a suggestion?
Dear tsuyokikan,
I think your information is not sufficient. Please check your outlook whether it is still active and that the sync account (account that you choose to sync your XDA with outlook) is still accessible. My gut is that the problem may not root in your XDA device, so do also check the outlook functionality.
Any progress on this, please tell me. HTH
Cheers,
Ken
Dear Ken_xda,
It appears to be some kind of issue with the phone. I had recently upgraded to Active sync 4.0 and was able to sync once and that is when all the trouble started. I even tried removing Activesync from my PC and reloading it. When I attempt to sync the sync software comes on and makes the connection sound but my XDA does not respond with the connection sound like it had previously. Thanks for any help you can provide.
Sincerely
Jeremy
As much as i know, WM2003SE does not start automaticly on the Wallaby device.
Have you tried to run it manually on your device?
Stefan
Stefan
Yes, I did try that. I simply do not understand this. It had been working totally fine and then it just went whacky.
Still Can't Sync?????
Have benn working on trying to sync all afternoon. Iread the owners manual, tried setting up new syncs and nothing works. I did find an error message on the XDA under Activesync which reads: Unable to connect. Verify your dialup or proxy settings are correct, and try again. Does anyone have any ideas?
It looks like its trying to connect to internet.
In my Navbar under connectivity it shows my phone service and then under that it says The Internet and net to that it says PC connection. Could this be my problem? If so how do I change it so I can Sync again. Thanks in advance for any help.
Jeremy

Ran into a problem. My ActiveSync wouldn't recognize my device. It's showing up within Device Manager but when I connect it no go.
ActiveSync knows something is being connected because it starts to do it's thing but then errors out and cannot establish a connection with my Athena.
Anyone else run into this problem?
I've uninstalled/reinstalled ActiveSync 4.2 AND 4.5. Checked to ensure that the services that ActiveSync depends on are running, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you are not running Windows Vista are you?
No. Running Windows XP Pro.
It was working a bit flakey at first. I had an HTC TyTN synching perfectly on ActiveSync 4.5. When I got my Advantage in, I hooked it up and it acted a bit weird but trying to hurry and get my phone up and running I avoided setting up the relationship so it was a "guest". I installed software onto my Advantage without a problem. Later, once I got my stuff migrated from TyTn to Advantage, I deleted all existing relationships in ActiveSync then tried to join the Advantage to it and it knows the phone is there but won't establish a profile with it. Did a repair on 4.5, didn't work. Uninstalled/reinstalled 4.5, didn't work. Uninstalled 4.5 and installed 4.2 (the version on the CD), didn't work. Researched ActiveSync and noticed that one of the dependent services was stopped...I activated this service, rebooted...didn't work. ActiveSync uses a TCP/IP port to listen on so I did "telnet 127.0.0.1 xxxx" where xxxx is the port and it's there listening, so requests can be accepted.
I'll probably try hard resetting my device this weekend if no one has any recommendations. Once I find the answer I'll post it here.
Possible causes are:
- Corrupt ActiveSync on laptop. An uninstall/reinstall should have resolved this unless the unlerlying OS files that ActiveSync utilizes are corrupt and those weren't repaired/replaced during the reinstall.
- Corrupt ActiveSync on phone. Can't be uninstalled/reinstalled to my knowledge without a hard reset so not much I can do.
- Maybe the GPRS monitor I installed caused a problem. I initially installed the one that came on the CD but had to remove it because it kept locking up the phone and slowing things down significantly.
Are you running BitDefender as your AV/Firewall? A recent update prevents ActiveSync from working correctly. see link:

No. Not running either. I did a hard reset and it started working again. Then a few days later the same thing happened again. Not sure exactly what the problem is but since I already did a hard reset and the problem resurfaced, I'm going to have to do some debugging to figure out what the culprit is. Just hate wasting time going through a debug. :-/
Hi,
I am experiencing similar problems with my T-Mobile MDA Compact 3.
I recently re-installed my PC and installed 4.5 having previously used 4.2.
After a few days it stopped syncing. It still allowed you to view files on the phone from the PC and install programs, it just would not Sync.
I did a hard reset of the phone to night and it worked fine to begin with but now it appears to have stopped working again.
Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong. I am assuming that AS 4.5 is the problem here.

That is weird. After my initial hard reset, it happened again. I did another hard reset anyhow because I was trying out new programs and wanted it to be clean again. Not sure what was causing mine to stop functioning but when it did, I couldn't connect to the phone at all. I wouldn't browse nor synch, etc.
It has now definately stopped working.
Looks like I will have to hard reset the MDAC3 again and try from scratch using AS 4.2.
My only concern that without reinstalling my PC there may be some residual problem in the registry or elsewhere that the new installs are picking up.
I am about to try another trawl of the Internet to see if anyone else is experiencing these problems, and has a solution.
Regards
Hi,
....and we are back. I went back to Microsofts site and looked over all the various solutions for AS problems where you are connected but not syncing.
There is a suggestion that USB hubs can cause problems and that you should connect your phone directly to the PCs main USB ports. I had discounted that as it has always been connected to the USB port with no problems.
I have just tried it and it and it is now syncing fine again.
I am assuming that AS 4.2 coped with the hub okay or my reinstall of the PC had caused the problem.
I will now try some soft resets and re-boots of my PC to see if AS keeps working. Fingers crossed!!!
Regards
...and now we are back to square one.
I also tried unistalling Outlook 2007 and reinstalling 2002 and AS 4.2 but it did not even connect.
One thing I have also noticed is when you run the troubleshooter in AS it seems to think that their is not a copy of Outlook as it tells you to install Outlook 2000 or higher. This would explain the lack of syncing while the device appears connected in terms of being to explore it and install programs.
Tried a search on this on the Internet but did not find anything.
Looks like a full reinstall of the PC and a Hard Reset of the device is required.
Deep Joy, thanks Microsoft.

START ---> Settings ---> Connections Tab ----> USB to PC icon !! have a play with that, it worked for me, when I was having the same problems as you !!
Do you have Clean Notificatons installed or any other program that clears the notifications cache? I may have found one cause of the ActiveSync issue I was experiencing.
Hi,
Well I did the full install of both PC and phone and after one sync it started to play up again. I was about to through both out of the window when I began to realise that there was a slight issue on the phone itself.
I use SBSH Pocket Weather and I noticed that it did not seem to be updating weather and image automatically. I had imported settings from my previous setup. I reinstalled PW and set it up from scratch and hey presto Active Sync is working fine again.
I guess some form of problem must have migrated over in the PW settings.
Either that or it was just blind luck it worked.
Regards

Just got my Advantage today! I love it so far, especially the A2DP!
Also had activesync problems: I could synchronise but I could not connect to the internet, only via USB!
Now it is working with AS 4.2 and above box unchecked!
With AS 4.5 -which I also tried- I could not connect to internet with above box checked & unchecked !!!

Well i do not have any of your problems.. So i think you are doing something wrong.. The problem with E-mail, WLM and GPRS settings is probably because you use the stylus to soft reset the phone. This makes the phone lose all its settings. Therefore i would suggest you use a program like PsShutXP. This program can soft reset like when you use the stylus, but it writes your changes to the registry before it resets, which makes your phone not loose your settings.. I had the same problem like you untill i began using psshutxp.
You could also just make a clean shutdown as soon as you have done your changes. Just hold the shut down button until a warning comes up, and then answer yes.. Then turn back on..
RE
What about WM6 stop responding. You have to use the pen for reset. This will may cause loosing those settings. This is not an acceptable solution. I use soft reset programs and it is true but othewise...
I have to reinstall everithing all the time. I'm loosing my patience. No one is able to remedy that problem?

Hi guys,
I am sure that you all know about MS WIndows, if you push the reset button on your computer, the running application and data will be lost.
Do the same with ur PDA, Just close your application after you used it (using task manager or something else), so if it is freeze your data still available in your PDA.
I hope it might be helped.
sorry if i have mistaken

I haven't seen anyrom yet that lets you be able to do this. But just make your changes (GPRS settings, WLM settings and more) and then shut down the device and after that turn it on again. Then you cant lose those settings.. And if it freezes, use the stylus, the settings that you have changed before the normal shutdown will still be saved.
RE
I know that but with one single notification... On PDA, mail is everytime opened and cannot be closed. Once you reset the device, will loose mail settings. All the data setting in your mail are stored in "cemail.vol". This cannot be saved because is opened all the time.
