LauncherPro vs ADW, battery consumption & usability - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone used both & can comment on battery consumption & usability?
I'm using LauncherPro and have a feeling it's not as smooth as it should be on a phone with these specs.
Rooted & have frozen the recommended apps.

I've tried both of the above launchers and personally feel that Go Launcher EX runs smoother on my Atrix. The only issue I have with it is that the homescreens are limited to 5 x 5. I've cleaned up a lot of the junk apps and am getting decent battery life out of it now. Unplugged since 6 this morning, low to moderate use and I'm at 70% at 2 pm.

The reason I think go launcher limits you to 5x5 is so when you put it in landscape every thing fits vertically. I would like to see the app drawer open faster but other than that I love go launcher.

what should be frozen to get optimal use?

I have paid versions of both and find them both to be smooth. I'm using LauncherPro Plus, as I like it's Facebook & Messaging widgets. Cheers.

I agree. None of the market launchers are as smooth as motoblur. I keep installing adw, go and or launcher pro and then uninstalling within a few hours because they aren't super smooth in transitions.

Hm. Am trying Go Launcher since an hour and I have to admit it feels & looks much smoother than LauncherPro..

Go Launcher EX looks great....

Have to agree too that LauncherPro is not as smooth as it should be with these specs. But I'm still sticking to it since it is more customizable. Guess we just have to wait for the rewrite version of LauncherPro

ADW or LauncherPro for MT4G?

Both launchers are great IMO, but I've usually leaned toward LauncherPro. I haven't installed either on my MT4G, and am curious to know what other MT4G owners prefer to run on their phone (after rooting, of course).

adw launcher all the way.
http://www.appbrain.com/app/fluxed-adw-theme/com.asimonds.fluxed
with that adw.theme.
[i bought adw.notifier too]
then put on something with a black wallpaper=ooommmggg
speed+eye candy
I just tried both and ADW is slow as a dog on my phone. LauncherPro flies faster than I remember it running on my old MT3G, but sadly I can't install/use any of the HTCSense widgets (most importantly the weather/clock one).
Keep HTCSense or LauncherPro? Hmmm.
I have been using LauncherPro Plus for over a week now. Decided to try ADW today. Although there are definitely some more customization options on ADW theme wise, LPP seems to run faster and more consistent. I will be sticking to LPP.
Also, the old version of fancy widget or the paid beautiful widget app can replace the sense ui weather/clock.

LPP all the way, by far the best. Get beautiful widgets if you want the sense style clock and the LPP widgets are just as good as the sense widgets.

same here... I love Launcher Pro and have been using Beautiful Widgets since they came back after the C&D from HTC, between the speed of Launcher Pro (not to mention the 2 extra launcher bars) and the customization of Beautiful Widgets you can't go wrong.
LPP! i love how fast it is and the widgets are amazing! the ability to also resize a widget on the fly is wondering
I tend to use Launcher Pro Plus more than ADW but both are excellent.
Used to go back and forth between these 2 before lpp. the widgets just put it a step ahead, 4 me. both are good though
Launcher Pro with translucent widgets is the best!
what do you all mean by "fast"?
like the scrolling speeds?

I like both adw and lp, but my experience has been that lp is alot smoother
lp for me is the best also ...... its fast is clean and its smooth i got the regular one not the paid one......
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I love LP but im using ADW now and i havent seen any slowdowns at all and i like the themes, maybe since its newer to me im digging it more now, i been using launcher pro since it first came out
yea both are great launchers and i have been using LPP since it came out too but lately ive been using ADW since it has many different themes and with the TeamSilence Iced Galcier Rom V1.0 and the Gr8Gorilla 1.7 Ghz OC, ADW doesnt lag at all... so it gives me speed and extreme customization too IMO... my suggestion is download both then see which one suits your needs...
+1 for LPP. I love the calendar widget and the dock with the glass background.
First time trying to use launcher pro, downloaded it from Market and can not find it any where. Went into my app drawer and t isn't there, checked settings ect. and isn't there either. What the heck am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
Didn't think I was that much of a knuckle head but obviously I am.
Thanks,

Click your home button. You should have an option to launch HTC Sense or Launcher Pro.
Click Launcher Pro and now you're using that as your home launcher. If you click on the Menu button from home, you'll now see a Preferences selection. That's how you can customize Launcher Pro.
If you decide you like it, when you click the home button, make sure you check the box to make it your default launcher.

Launchers

Anyone tried Nemus Launcher from the Market? Just found it & it's pretty smooth. What launchers work best for you?
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
LauncherPro Plus With 3D Icon Pack.
I've run them all and I am using ADW Launcher EX right now. It seems to be the most flexible of the bunch and there is a ton of support for it. Launcher Pro is awesome too and has notifications built in. GoLauncher is great too with tons of theming options. Zeam is really fast and clean. Launcher 7 rules if you like the wp7 look (and I do).
Just experiment for a while and freeze what you don't like at the moment. Get home switcher too. It took me 2 months of switching a few times a day to finally land on ADW Launcher.

I like LauncherPro, its smooth with alot of options.
I was looking for new launchers to try, and ended up making a pretty big list of them. There ended up being tons more than I thought I could find. So I posted them with links to the Phandroid forums @ Android Forums > Android Discussion > Android Applications > The Big List of Home Launchers. Still a newb here, can't post links yet.

Thanks man, I'll check it out. I'm basically looking for performance & resource usage in a launcher. Lean & mean with a few customizations. I've tried adw, launcherpro, zeam, go launcher, launcher2 & blurhome. So far, I'm pretty impressed with Nemus. Today.

I use go Launcher, I like how I can add as many pages as I like and the Go widgets are nice especially the calendar one.
I have used LauncherPro, ADW, Launcher 7 and Zeam. I really liked how light and fluid Zeam was but am rocking Launcher 7 for the time being.
Go launcher ex. Most features of the bunch, and it's free.

I dl'ed spb shell 3d v1.2.2. And w/ frozen mkt and airplane on did a diy trial.
Liked it so much I did the email buy off the dev.s webpage. Dx is supported while Dx2 is not(yet) so there is no mkt support. Mine is V122 bld 20139

+1 For OCD!
I currently am using the Go launcher with the tron theme and I'm liking it so far. I would like to find a launcher that has some nice HD themes. The qHD screen we have goes to waste with some of these low resolution themes.

Only issue I had with Go Launcher is when I would try to open the App Drawer or press the phone icon, I would have to do it several times for it to register. But no problems with LauncherPro.

Yeah me too. I really like the minimalistic feel of L7, but it's reeaaally slow compared to ADW launcher EX. I still use launcher 7, but it needs a bit of polish imo.
I've used GO Launcher, but I liked the more customizable aspect of ADW. Also used Launcher Pro, that didn't stay long.
ADW and Launcher 7 are the best bets so far.

Stock TouchWiz launcher for the win. Super smooth and I love it. If you don't like TW though, I'd go with GoLauncher - it seems to be ssecond best for battery.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Zeam is the most energy efficient, as it is the simplest and smallest launcher.
But In terms of configuration and functionality GoLauncherEX is the winner !
Stock seems to work well for me. Updated to KI4 (2.3.5) and battery life is quite good.
Ive been usign tsf and spb shell. Tsf options are awsome but they both kinda eat up a lot of battery. With the right rom and JD settings ive gotton up to 2 days without charging. Still looking for a Launcher thats the best though
apex launcher pro

Launchers, which one are you using?

For those using a launcher other than stock MotoBlur (ADW Ex, Launcher Pro, etc), any problems, bugs that you have experienced?
Thought this thread may help some of our fellow Razr owners avoid some problems before they begin. Certainly feel free to report any bugs/other issues with the stock launcher as well.
I'm still using stock for the moment, but thinking of installing an alternative launcher while waiting for some custom ROM's. Thanks everyone.

Launcher Pro - works just great. No problems so far. Seems to be more responsive than the stock...
Go Launcher EX!
I also have both ADW EX and LauncherPro Plus, but I'm settled with the Go Launcher EX (free!). Go Launcher EX = ADW EX + LauncherPro Plus.
Go Launcher EX here also,it runs very smoothly on the razr
Overall quality and the feel of the stock launcher is completely enough for me.
stock, first time ever!
Go launcher ex here. Love the scrolling dock. No issues!

This ^. Sure the app drawer is a little jerky, but I'm sure that'll improve with updates. Moto is getting their UI together quite nicely.
Using stock launcher as well, pretty much my first time too. I believe this one is pretty well done!
I use the stock launcher as well. Very smooth and responsive. No need to go (back) to GoLauncher which, in my opinion, has become more laggy lately.
stock for me. don't see the need to switch or try any other launcher.. I might after a while just to test them out but for now, after only having the phone for 3 days I'll stick with stock.
I tried the stock launcher, but with a lot of apps it started to choke and stutter.
Now using Go Launcher EX.
I previously favored Launcher Plus Pro, but I also found it to start becoming more laggy recently. I've not found the Go Launcher EX home replacement to have this problem.
Also not sure what happens when ICS drops, but my honeycomb tablet doesn't allow any other launcher- ICS may do the same.
Go launcher EX here
apparently like many of others i'm really considering using the stock launcher for the first time it's well themed and the functionality is good. i used Launcher Pro on my Milestone and then ADW Launcher on Flipout, both had great features. when i installed ADW launcher on RAZR, it looked i don't know.. too simple, uninteresting compare to the stock launcher and some of the blur widgets had trouble with scrolling when i put them in ADW so i decided to get back to the stock launcher.
ADW EX here. No issues to report so far. I'm just waiting for the Gnex and this gets returned, but so far it's an ok device. I used the MT4G before this and was running the MIUI Rom with TDJ's DemonSpeed kernel and honestly it ran better than this RAZR.
As an example, this phone comes with 1GB of Ram. My former MT4G came with 768. With the RAZR I have roughly 350MB free at any given time. With the MIUI Rom I always had at least 430MB free at any given time and it ran so smooth at a clock speed of 1017/230. I could get 24+ hours with moderate use.
Anyway, just waiting for the Gnex but ADW EX works great on the RAZR.

[Q] Does go launcher consume more battery?

Hi guys just switched to go launcher ex (latest version) from original touchwiz on stock ics 4.0.4. It seems like it is consuming more battery on standby, i was wondering if others who use it notice that?
Also if i move go launcher app + theme to system, and integrate it into the rom, would that help in terms of consuming less battery? any tips?
Thanks
Yea, Go Launcher eats more battery.
Why don't you try Apex Launcher?
Go Launcher is very rich in features but consumes more battery due to that, because it uses more RAM.
Apex or Nova are very good indeed.

I have used go laucher ex before on my old htc and i am quite used to that. Does apex consume less battery? any other advantages of apex? thanks
Yes, it consume less battery, and Apex has many features:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anddoes.launcher
AFAIK yes, it drains a little bit more battery.
I'm using Dorimanx kernel (usually battery friendly), but with go launcher was a professional battery drainer...
now I switched to the default JB launcher ... much better (in terms of battery):good:
That's odd I've found Go Launcher to be the most battery friendly.
When I tried Apex I felt the battery wasn't as good.
I guess like all battery questions, it comes down to how you use your phone.

I am using apex laucher pro now on my s2 and it seems to be good and better than go launcher in terms of battery. However apex does feel abit laggy at times plus it dont have much extras like go launcher. But i guess you cant get everything. Cheers for comments nevertheless. Btw do you keep your go launcher app as system app integrated in rom? Or just installed as normal?
Lets try nova launcher. Its very smooth and cool.
