Removing stock mms - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running Trigger 2.7.2 with Dragon v5. I found the greatness of handcent sms and love it. Is there a way to safely remove the moms loaded on the phone and only use handcent. I think I would need an apk file for it...right? Any feedback wouldbe great!!

I don't know of I would completely remove it. You could go into the stock mms and change the settings to not show up in the notification bar and the sound to silent. Then set up handcent the way you like it. That way if handcent ever acts kinda screwy you can go back to the stock mms.
Trigger + CWK = Awesomeness

Yea you can delete it by gettin SystemApp Remover.....youu need root

Look for it in google or w.e.
Butt be careful deleting another app because rom could stop working or else

Thanks!! I will leave it for now and just have handsent as my default. Maybe when I have more experience i'll try removing it. Thanks again

SMS messenger

First off im a complete HTC nood, never used sense before, and never had to use an SMS app because every other phone I owned had a pretty decent messengin app preloaded... Not so much the case here huh?? Does anyone know how to turn the stock SMS off without rooting? Is there a way? I'm trying to use handcent or how ever you spell it and I'd like to only have that app notify me when I get a text...
TIA

can no longer recieve mms

as of a few days ago i can no longer seem to recieve mms messages on my phone. i can send both pics and vids and have them go through, as well as send and recieve normal txt messages, but for some reason i can no longer recieve mms messages. i took my phone in to att and they gave me a new sim card, but its still having the same issue. anyone have any ideas as to how i can go about fixing this?
Did you freeze any Apps. on your phone? If you are using handcent and froze the stock messaging app. it will not let you get you mms.

or maybe you need to reconfigure apnĀ“s
I think I may have frozen the stock messaging app and I do use handcent, ill have to defrost it and see if that works. I already tried creating a new apn, that didn't work.
Unlocked alien atrix
I also have this problem on my Atrix.
Just unfreeze the stock messaging app it will work again.

Question about text messaging

Is there anyway you can make your text alert come up like an iphone?

I use go sms, I think its similar...

Yea. Go SMS has that option along with a ton more.

To clarify a bit: no, you can't get notifications this way right out of the box with a stock or AOSP-based ROM. But there are apps from the Market that will give you pop-up text notifications. You can use GOSMS as the other posters suggested, but if you don't want to use a different messaging app, there are also apps that will take over the notifications while you continue to use the stock messaging app to read and compose your texts. Search the Market for keywords "SMS notify popup" or similar and you should find what you're looking for.
Along with Go SMS there's also handcent sms which is similar.
If you want exact iphone replica messaging, then try chomp sms. I've been using it from a while and I love it.

Is it safe to delete the stock messaging app?

I use gosms and for some reason the stock app notify me more times then the gosms.... I was going to try and delete it but I don't know how embedded it is in the system and I don't want to break something.

I would used Titanium Backup to freeze it and test whatever sms client you are using instead. I use Google Voice for everything and have had my messaging frozen (disabled) and everything works.

Thanks guys... I'll freeze it and see what happens.

I use Handcent and have uninstalled (with TiBU) the stock messaging account on just about every ROM I've flashed on all 3 of my EVO's (4G, View, and LTE) with never an issue.

[Q] Fastest, Lightest SMS App

What is the best SMS app other then the built in one.
The majority of apps I have found have extra useless features or are not smooth.
I am on android 2.3 Atrix 4G I could upgrade to 4.1 but I'd rather not.
Let me know what you use.

I use stock app.
Since you ask for a light one, there is an app called "FREE SMS SENDER" in play store. It can be used to send sms via Internet or the default carrier messaging thing.

Yeah I'm using go SMS in lite mode I just wish I could fully remove themes and Go store and all the bulk.

Yah. The go sms is filled with crap stuff. Even I used it once, it's completely messed up.
So I switched back to stock.
But I'm using the message app from CM10. That's cool with quick reply and call back thing.

Right, I just don't want to go to CM10 until it becomes more stable. I used it for months but CM7 is much more stable.
I'm using Messaging 7 which is light but still not ideal.
