Gingerbread 2.3.3 and MSS issues - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since updating to Gingerbread 2.3.3 i have not been able to receive 3g2 video files. They come in as a Picture with an audio file. If i use an mms.apk file that i know downloads them correctly i get force close when opening the text message tread. If i restore the original MMS.apk i can open the video that was download with the old mms file and play it normaly but if a new message is sent I get the problem again.
I attached the catlog for the force close.
I have Tried everything i can think of. Deleted the two database files telephony.db and mmssms.db, deleted stock APN and restored know good apn, and also called *228.
This is only happening with both Ginger Tazz and GSB after they updated to the 2.2.3 nightly.

It may be a CM7 issue that they are working on, in which case it'll be solved for all CM7 ROMs at the same time. On the other hand, I don't know and I'm just guessing.

I was thinking the same thing and I hope that it gets fixed. Thanks for your input.

MMS size restriction error

i rooted a friends samsung vibrant last night and everything went perfectly. i installed this rom.
now, whenever anyone sends him a picture message, it says something about "a problem with resolution or size restriction."
i've searched xda and come up with people getting blurry mms messages and the fix is to install either the cm6 mms apk or one of a few available. searching on google, everyone has the problem with the iphone and their fix is a package available through cydia.
i've had him check his apn settings and they are the same as seen in post number 7 of this thread. i've had him try using handcent and chompsms instead of the default. i've had him ensure his mobile data is on. the problem still persists.
he can send picture messages just fine. he can receive normal texts just fine.
he really wanted an aosp rom. i stuck with 2.2 so the clockwork 2.5.1.2 backup/restore would work fine.
my questions are these:
should installing a new mms apk fix this issue? does he need different apn settings? should i install a different rom altogether? should i install a newer 2.3 rom? if so, how can i get clockwork 3 installed? (i couldn't find how to do that anywhere either).
sorry this post is so long. thanks for any help.
ended up using odin back to stock then rerooted and reflashed the rom. seems to be working now.

Text Messaging Force Closes crashes

I've done some searching on Google and didn't find anything helpful yet. I am running a mostly stock (rooted) ED04 w/ OTB 1.6 Kernel.
When I boot up my phone, I get a FC on com.android.mms
When I go into my Messaging and open an existing message it force closes.
This phone is pretty freshly setup. ie: I had a couple text messages on my phone from yesterday. I deleted those with no effect. When I sent a text message to myself (from google voice) and opened it up, I still get the FC on com.android.mms
I booted up into CWR and ran the Fix Permissions. That didn't do any good. I went back to CWR and cleared cache and Dalvik cache. That didn't do any good. Still getting FC. Any advice? I have a logcat of the crash when I try to open the message.
Here is the logcat: http://pastebin.com/YHwYs7ur
Any help in figuring out why my text messaging is crashing would be very helpful. I've been using a Fascinate since September. The only thing I did before this started happening was Titanium Backup was set to backup the green system applications and the user applications last night.
EDIT:
Sending a text message from the phone is causing a force close too. The message does send (I sent it to myself and it showed up a moment or two later after the fore close).
I think the mms database is screwed up but I'm not sure which database it is.
EDIT #2:
Well, I ran Titanium Backup again (just user apps+data, with the reboot option enabled). The system rebooted at the end of the backup and stuck at the SAMSUNG logo and will not boot up and not even into CWM with the three finger salute. Guess I'm doing the odin dance. Damn it. I had just gotten everything setup the way I wanted it. I will be leary of the Titanium Backup rebooting and see if that had anything to do with it. (Titanium Backup rebooted last night, the phone was off by the time I got to it this morning and it turned on fine except for the text messaging FC.)
I've odin'd the CWM (05-08-2011 version) and it still just sticks at the SAMSUNG screen....so ODIN back to ED03. Blech.

[Q] [issue][MIUI] 1.8.5 MMS

So am new to all this asop stuff but i followed BrwnSuperman's steps
HTML:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212239
to update from froyo comm romm 2.1 to JT's Vanilla Gingerbread and finally Miui 1.8.5. Now that im in Miui, everything works fine except my mms. I can only send outgoing messages but i get a force close every time am incoming message tries to come it (large or small). Is this a known issue or is there a fix for this? I reflashed it twice and even tried 1.7.29's mms.apk instead but to no avail. is there something i'm missing
Nevermind. I figured it out. I titanium restored my old txt data which has seemed to cause the problem, another fresh install with data wipe fixed it with the 1.8.12 update.

Auto-download MMS on CM9

I'm running the latest CM9 beta along with the APN Fix.
I'm able to send mms messages fine, but whenever I receive one (like an image text), it prompts me to download the image instead of doing it automatically. Furthermore, when I try to download the image in the stock messaging app, it doesn't work. I then installed GO SMS, which does allow me to download the image (most of the time), but I'm still prompted to download it instead of it downloading automatically. This happens on both wifi and 3G.
What I've tried (with reboots after changing settings):
I've double and triple checked the APN settings and have even restored my APNs to default and then re-entered them.
I've also tried playing with different APN settings than whats in the fix.
I've toggled the auto-retrieve setting in the stock messaging app on and off.
I tried installing the black-themed mms app.
I've cleared app data on the stock messaging app and GO SMS
I've attempted to fix permissions, wipe dalvik, and wipe cache
I checked the mms size limits inside GO SMS settings
All of the above was unsuccessful. Each mms I receive still prompts me to download the image. When I click download it doesn't always work in GO SMS and doesn't work at all in the stock messaging app.
At this point, I think I'm going to wait until Joker releases a new build and see if that magically fixes it. If not, I'll probably have to wipe and do a clean install. I did a wipe between the last alpha and first beta build but have just been wiping dalvik/cache between beta builds.
Anyone have any other ideas / suggestions?
Thanks!
Try just using the first APN and deleting the other 2. That's all I've done and I can send and receive mms just fine using the stock app.

Thanks for the response... Just tried deleting the 'Production' and 'Internet' APNs and only leaving the CDMA one (the first one) and then rebooting. I'm still able to send mms but again when I receive one, it prompts me to download instead of just displaying the image automatically in the messaging app.
I feel like it has to be either a problem connecting / downloading from the mms service or there's just some setting somewhere that's causing it to prompt me to download before retrieving.
I also tried setting the APN Type to 'MMS' instead of 'mms', which allows me to click a little blue dot next to the APN... tho I'm not sure what that does (makes it the default?). However, when I did that, I lost the ability to send MMS, so I set it back to 'mms'.
I wasn't able to fix this issue without doing a clean install (wipe / etc). I ended up flashing the latest CM9 build (3.1) on top of the 0.2 build and the issue persisted. I then did a clean install of 3.1 and the issue is resolved. Images received via mms now automatically appear in my messaging app without prompting me to download manually.

[Q] help with mms

I rooted my phone and accidentally deleted the stock mms.apk and i couldnt recieve any messages, i downloaded an upgraded version of the stock mms.apk and i can send and recieve regular sms messages but i cant send or recieve pictures, can anyone help please
I had similar problem after accidentally deleted the calendar.apk, I did try copy this from another device (exactly model and android version) but no success to make the widget work again (no events shown).
I do recommend to reinstall the entire ROM - stock or custom.
I agree with MagusWRM.
I agree with MagusWRM. Re-install the ROM and if it’s still acting up call your Wireless provider and have them check to see if everything is right on their end.

I download handcent and it works... I can't flash a new ROM because there is no software compatible with my phone and there are no drivers for it either
