[Q] Help, accelerometer Not Working - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried doing this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793441
and my results came up fgets: Unknown Error: 0
msmachdep_SaveGsOffset: failed
Calibration Utilities: failed
Anyone know what all that means lol

Is your horizontal calibration working? If not you have a hardware problem and will probably have to send your phone back to samsung.

^ if I play a game it will go into landscape mode if that is what you are talking about

Try going to settings> display> horizontal calibration. Put your phone on a flat surface and hit calibrate. After it calibrates the ball should stay in the center of the screen. Try that and tell me what happens.

It says that it's calibrated after I calibrate it

The ball doesn't snap to one side after it calibrates? It stays dead center on the screen?

No it just stay dead center the whole time

What exactly is your phone doing that makes you think the accelerometer isn't working. Give as much detail as possible.

I can't go into landscape mode when I look at pictures in my gallery, using the browser, my homescree (using LPP), and I tried taking a screen shot using shootme and it wouldn't recongnize that I was shaking it

This might seem like a stupid question but I have to ask it. In your display settings do you have "Auto rotate screen" checked?

Yeah I made sure it was checked before I tested it

Well I'm stumped. My last suggestion is to try and flash a different ROM and see if that solves the problem. If it doesn't then you may indeed have a hardware issue.

Appreciate the advice, I was thinking about just reflashing the updated version or Axura to see if that worked too

That will work too. Good luck!

I should also mention I have dropped my phone a few times (it fell out of my coat pocket no more then 3 ft.) I have a TPU case and the phone hasn't taken and physical damage, but could the drops throw off the accelerometer?
Sent from my Gangsta Vibrant using XDA App

Dropping your phone can definitely damage the accelerometer but if it's calibrating properly it sounds like an issue with your software and not the hardware itself.

I think it was just a maybe a bad flash or something because I reflashed the same version of Axura and its's working like a charm now

Awesome! Glad to hear you got everything fixed.

[Q] Horizontal calibration problem

Ok Looking for some help to see if anybody know how to reset the horizontal calibration on this phone.
I flashed a new ROM yesterday and when I went to set the calibration after I pressed the horizontal calibration and green circle centers it will shoot off to one side once it's finished which and forces everything to be in landscape mode. The only way I can get the phone to not stay in a constant landscape mode is to off the auto rotate function.
It wasn't the ROM because after several downloads and flashes (thinking something may have not downloaded or installed right) it kept doing it. Trying other ROMS gave the same results. ODIN back to stock gave the same results.
Has anyone ever had to reset this or have any other suggestions on how to go about correcting this problem?
Thanks in advance
Just lay the phone down on its back and push calabrate horizontal in the gereral settings

LOL thanks but that is the problem, when I push calibrate the green circle brings the ball to the center and when it finishes the ball shoots to the right side and stays there. not sure if its a hardware or software problem but it happens no matter what I try do do. I even odined back to pure stock hoping it would reset it but no luck so far.
Just to clarify, when it's done calibrating and still lying on a flat surface, the green ball moves?

Yes, the green ring brings the ball to the center and when it's done calibrating that you get the little pop up "calibrated" the ball will shoot to the right side of the screen. Iv'e look all over the internet for a solution and downloaded some apps that monitor sensors, looks like the horizontal axis seems to almost stuck in that position. I was hoping a reset of some kind may do the trick but there seems to be no way of resetting the accelerometer on these phones. Vertical axis is working just fine according to the sensor apps I have tried..
Sounds like a hardware problem. Has the phone been dropped or jarred in some way?
Actually I dropped it a distance of about 6 inches while sitting on my desk at work. The phone landed on my desk, it slipped out of my hands while I was rebooting it. It's got that thick T-Mobile rubber cover around it so it's well protected but who knows guess stranger things have happened.
It sounds like your going to have to send it back to Samsung to get it repaired.

You are absolutely right about that, good thing for insurance and being a T-Mobile customer for 5 years. They are sending a replacement phone 100% free of charge even though I've had this phone since day one of rollout.

[Q] Touch Screen Issues

There is a vertical area on the touch screen that is totally unresponsive. Because of this I am unable to hit c, v, f, g or t on my soft keyboard, and using the input text icon thingy have seen that it goes higher up.
Some background now.
Back in January/February, broke the digitizer on my phone. I ordered a new one from repairsuniverse. Installed, all perfectly fine. I would sometimes get "bubbles" and dust between the screens (I messed up the heat tape some.) I would use the lil plastic prybar and fix the issue without opening the whole phone. No issues before.
Yesterday, I decided to finally root, s-off, and try some mods. Before I got to it, I fixed another one of those bubble things on my screen. Went through it all, and went fairly smoothly, and installed cleanrom de. Touch screen would sometimes wig out and become completely unresponsive last night, but hitting the power button would bring it back. Went on and started downloading allot of my apps from the market, and went to bed.
Woke up this morning, touch screen was completely unresponsive. Couldn't get past the lockscreen, even after pulling the battery. I though I must of messed something up earlier when I popped off the screen yesterday (because the signs before compete unresponsiveness.) Tore the phone apart, physically inspected the cable and screen, found no visible defects, and firmly reseated the cable back into the...thingy.
Still no go. Yesterday I had only flashed the kernel for 3.13 on scotts thread, thought that might of been the issue, and flashed the whole 3.14 ruu from nils business sense rom page (because it has a fixed mainver) onto my phone. Success. The screen was working again. Go unlock>recovery>install cleanrom de again. Trying to sign into google, cant hit the listed letters above, flipped into landscape to continue. Couldn't figure out still what was wrong. I went back to the 3.14 ruu, not testing it before when it was installed, and the issue persisted there as well.
So, software? Hardware? Any ideas for fixes would be greatly appreciated.
In the market download an app like touch test and go over the area that is having problems and see if they persist.
From what you have said sounds like a hardware issue. I just am not sure what you would need to do next.

Downloaded the app, dead area all the way vertical between the 6th and 9th grid
I went and wiped absolutely everything and installed cleanrom again (like you I'm doubting software is the issue.)
Going to open her back up, maybe before it was software, but this time its hardware...I don't know...
Did u ever get this resolved I am having the exact same issue but mine is a "like new replacement".
I too have a dead zone going horizontal from line 22-24, but can still use the keyboard in that space so it's not completely dead
Actually I can touch almost anything in that section, only a few apps give me fits in that area???

Op issue is similar to mine, it got to the point where I called VZW and I am having a replacement sent AGAIN! doesn't it annoy you?
Also tried touch test and yep big void right in the middle vertically on the phone but the weird thing is that it goes back to normal after a while.
Also I re flashed thinking it was a software issue but nope.
So do you think it was the cheap digitizer or bad install?

[Q] Samsung galaxy s2 i9100 magnetic sensor needs calibartion

hi ,
i am on android 4.1.2 leaked version
i purchased a mobile phone with broken screen and replaced it so it has been falled earlier i dont whether the magnetic sensor was working earlier or not
on android ics the autorotation feature was also not working and in jb it is also not working
before writing this thread i have already looked 50-60 of similar threads havings problems with different sensors and autorotation but didnt got solution anywhere
in *#0*# test under sensor everything is giving reading except magnetic sensor it is saying it needs calibration but where and how i dont know
if the hardware has fault in my phone than any one can please tell me where is magnetic sensor in the motherboard so i could do change it
under the motion>sesitivity in jb there is gyroscope calibration option in which its ball is not moving anywhere while moving the phone on the different axis but it is saying calibrated on putting it on flat surface and saying some file missing if we do calibrtion by putting phone in hands.........
in the application gps status each thing is showing readings only the magnetic field and the centre ball in the middle not moving
so is there is any real solution for this problem.............

To ur last statement:
It seems like it's not working any longer, that's why the "ball" while calibration don't move.
After a few seconds it says calibrated because that it set the actual position as default.
That's why while a normal calibration u lay the phone on a table or kind of it - next time the point is in the middle of this position.
Hope this makes a bit clear why it seems to be defect.
Because changing anything in hardware, I can't give any reply, sorry.

Proximity sensor and ambient iight sensor not found

Hey xda-community,
i've registered, because i have a strange problem with my LG G5 (H850) European Edition. If this is of any use, it's the Vodafone-Edition. Sorry for my language, i'm not a native speaker .
I got my G5 yesterday and was really pleased with the build quality (i was afraid, i was about the get some of those flawed devices as seen on the internet) and the raw power of the whole package. At first i didn't notice but then i realized, that the automatic brightness didn't work. Then i noticed, while having a conversation, that the display was'nt turned down. Up to this point it sounds like the known bug.
What i think (and please, push me into the right direction if i'm wrong - i'd love to take the shame not beeing able to look properly) makes the difference is, that after installing several sensor test apps from playstore, i always got the information, that both sensors are missing.
I took a trip into service menu and tried to calibrate (or better so say, to see if there was any sign of them) those sensors, but nothing happened. No reaction while covering the area where they are supposed to be, nothing.
Firmware is v10c-262-02. Tried to reset the phone and check while having nothing installed - same problem. I tried safe mode - same problem. I can check autobrightness but it doesn't have any effect whatsoever.
What really makes me shake my head is, that when i'm called and i turn the the display downwards to stop the sound, it works after 2 up to 3 times trying to cover the display.
I'd hate to send it in - maybe i'm just too stupid to look for answers, i'd really appreciate any efforts to help.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

Hey there,
short follow up to the problem. Yesterday evening i got a notification about an firmware update and wanted to install it. After hitting the proceed button nothing happened. Nothing. No installation, nada. I shook my head, deceided to return the damn brick and forgot about it. After an hour i noticed that my soft keys had changed their appearance. They got smaller. I asumed a kind of silent update (? nothing is shocking me anymore concerning this phone), checked the brightness control - no change. An hour ago i wanted to unlock my phone and got no reaction. I was about to hard reset it when it unlocked. I scrolled down the notification bar to check something when i noticed that the brightness was different from my setting. I hit the auto brightness button and bazinga. It changed by itself and since then everything works like a charme. The firmware version hasn't changed. I don't have the knowledge to explain anything or to know if something like this is even possibe (something was definitly new because all those vodafone apps where there again - which i deinstalled yesterday). Okay, long story short - either i'm officially going insane or they fixed it. Don't know, don't care.
Have a nice weekend!
Update: And it's gone again. I have no idea what to do anymore. I don't know if anyone is interessted in this, but i share the info anyway...

It certainly sounds like it *might* be defective, as you say that you have tried a factory reset.
It is a strange problem you have as it only appears to happen occasionally. It also sounds quite annoying. I know it is a pain to have t return it, but it might be better to do that and have a fully functional device, than to keep on facing this problem.
Sorry not to be able to give you a more satisfactory solution.
Good luck.

Hello,
thank your very much for your reply. I agree, i think it'll be the only option i have. I'll try to do return it, it's quite easy in Germany but, nevertheless, connected to some time without a phone.
Have a nice sunday,

I have this same issue with the proximity sensor and in my case it is because of the Lifeproof case is causing this, many others with this case report the same thing. Try taking out of the case and test again - mine works fine with no case; If this still happens, with no case on, then maybe the phone

Thank you for trying to help Sensor was damaged, send it in for repair and got it back. One can be sure that it's not a matter of blocked access to the sensors when a sensor test shows, that there are no sensors.
Told about this in so many forums that i forgot to tighten the loose ends. Sorry.
Kind regards

Desperately needing help. unresponsive part of screen

So I bought a battery for my Mido and followed videos on youtube on replacing it. It all seemed to go well until I started to use my phone. The middle part of my screen doesn't register touches. I was able to install a touch screen test app and you can see that nothing is registering in the middle. Any Ideas? I've attached the screen shot.

Maybe it's software problem. If you have twrp installed check if the problem appear there too.If not then maybe it's indeed a software glitch. Then maybe you can try a factory reset or clean installation of the rom.
If that doesn't work maybe you can try reconnect the cables you had to disconnect during the battery change process and putting back the previous battery. Not an expert just some logical thoughts.

I'll test twrp in the morning. Doubt it'll be that. The only connectors I detached were the finger print sensor and battery. I hate prying my phone open. Was such a pain the first time. I'll have to open it up to see if maybe I knocked some other connection loose at all.
I am facing this exact same problem. Pretty much a vertical strip of screen on the right hand side of the screen is unresponsive for me. Screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/8Uqn2lp_d.jpg
I took the phone to the service center, while I had warranty. They pretty much said to my face that this kind of problem can pop up when you've dropped the screen too much and that I need to get the screen replaced to fix it.
