I am trying to flash GSBv2.1 and after I move the file to the sdcard folder and reboot into recovery, the file does not show up in the flash zip section of recovery. Thanks in advance.

Have you checked to make sure the zip file is in the root of the sd card (ie not in a folder)?

Also, did you use the Safely Remove Hardware notification icon in the lower right corner (assuming we're talking from Windows)? This isn't always necessary, but it doesn't hurt and makes sure all files were done being written to the SD card before telling you it's okay to dismount the SD card from the computer.
I did have it in the root folder and I downloaded it directly to my phone using wifi, so no windows. I ended up getting it to work by deleting the last file I added to my root before this one then it showed up. But it wouldn't show up when I removed older roms that were in my root. Which still has me confused.

There definitely is a limitation on the total number of files which it will display.
From the way you describe it, it sounds like it displays in descending order of timestamps, and when the "scroll buffer" fills up, the first few lines that are displayed - including the newest ROM you had downloaded - scroll right off the top and are no longer visible.
In any event, now you know what the problem is - it can only display a certain number of .zip files total.
Yeah, that makes sense and is exactly what I was thinking until I tried deleting 7 or 8 zip files and rebooted to check. It then showed a lot less zips in recovery but the most recent one still was not there. Then I deleted the second most recent zip and then it showed up.

You need to expand the rar file you've downloaded to extract the zip inside. Place that zip on your external then it should show

Here, i made the zip for you http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HFFEYG2Y. Just download boot into recovery and you should see it.
The reason your phone couldn't find it before is because it was in a RAR format and when in CWM only ZIPS are recognized for installing

I've seen this type of download before and it says the zip itself (named boot) is a .img and when I put it into the SD it shows up as a very small (4,000 KB) zip file. it doesn't show up in CWM.
Did you try repacking it as zip?
Has anyone tried this yet via editing the build prop file? I want to give it a try but some phones don't play nice with changing the density.

I got it to work. Copy the build.prop file to your computer and make your changes there. Then reboot your phone into recovery (TWRP is what I used), mount System (in TWRP), ADB push the edited file back onto your phone, and then use the TWRP file manager to apply CHMOD 755 onto the file. Then reboot and enjoy.
That last step (CHMOD) may not be necessary. I never tried leaving that step out to confirm one way or the other.

I know goo manager uses root permission to flash a recovery while the phone is on. So I was wondering if terminal emulator could do the same. I know this question is probably very noob-ish, but I'm curious.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
You should be able to with root permission
You think you could enlighten me on the "how to"?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Yea its the same as when u do it via command prompt just do su at the start
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Place the recovery on the root of your sd card. Make sure its not in any folders. Rename the recovery img "recovery.img" without the quotes. Then open up terminal. Type "su" without the quotes. Then when you receive the # sign, then type this
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
(and press enter)
you will now get this
#
now type
reboot recovery
and you should boot into your recovery you just flashed.

Ok, so what I'm trying to do is flash a stock recovery so I can take the ota. Does that sound feasible or am I just dreaming?

Its cool man we all been there. But as om4 posted you should always give exact details on what it is your trying to do or wanting to do. That way you get the best feedback. Also you can use the method I posted above to flash the stock recovery. However if you type the "reboot recovery" command and boot into the stock recovery you will have to hard shut down via power button to exit/reboot I believe. Not a 100% sure as I haven't seen the stock recovery since I first got this phone.

Hi is there a way to clean up these /0 directories who looks identical?
It add's an additional /0 directory in emulated every time I do a clean flash. Don't that use up my internal storage?
I'm using Temasek's cm 10.1 unofficial v83 + kernel but i don't think it has to do with the ROM
Is it safe to just delete these directories or is there any other way around this?

You need to upgrade your recovery application to the latest version to stop getting multiple /0 folders.
You only need one level of /0. And, yes you can delete the redundant levels. But make sure your files under the last level are copied to the sole remaining level.
/0 level came in with multi-user support in 4.2

I've flashed cwmtouch 6.0.2.8 awhile ago and the levels of /0's stopped adding up.
I've copied all the files from the last levels to emulated/0.
Then i deleted the files from the last levels except one made by a rom i had several months ago. It can't seem to be deleted because of some elevated permissions. I've tried with several Explorer's with no luck.
How do I get around to change permissions or simply get rid of former systemfiles not in use anymore?

Use terminal. Then remove the folder using the 'rm -rf' command. You may need to read up on this if you aren't familiar with Linux commands.

Back you files up to a PC, then boot to recovery and format /sdcard. That will remove all the 0/0/0/0/0/0 folders, then boot and copy your files back.

There is no need to use ADB or fastboot to copy a ROM file to your phone.
If you have an external SD card installed in your phone, remove it from the phone and copy the MeanBean ROM zip from your computer to your card (conversely, if you don't have an external SD card you can reboot to the bootloader, select 'Fastboot' from the menu, then connect your phone and PC. The phone should then be mounted via Fastboot USB, and you can copy files from your computer to your phone. Copy & paste the file, more or less). Put the card back in your phone. Hold down the power button until the capacitive buttons begin to flash. Your phone will reboot. Hold down the volume down button until the bootloader menu appears. Use the volume keys to navigate to the recovery option, then press power to select. Go into recovery and select 'Wipe', then 'Advanced Wipe'. Select Dalvik cache, cache, data and system, then wipe. After wiping, use the back button and select 'Install' from the main menu. Find the MeanBean ROM zip and flash it. You'll need to flash it twice-once to install the ROM, and again to install the kernel. Once the installation completes, reboot.
The reason your touch screen doesn't work is because you're on the latest software update, which contains an updated touch panel driver that's only compatible with software version 3.16 and TWRP 2.4.1.0 or higher. The driver isn't compatible with older versions of CM using the 3.0 kernel, also.

I had to re-read his post to see that that wasn't an option since his touchscreen was borked due to the CM installation
Of course, that's an option if he made a backup of his previous setup prior to flashing CM.
OP, always make a backup of your current working setup before flashing a new ROM, in case you ever have an issue with the new ROM and need to go back to something that works.

Great everything worked well. I guess I forgot that I needed to press the mount button for the computer to recognize the phone. Now I need to force roam on verizon prl. Any suggestions?
I can't remember if the option is in the sticky settings zip folder for MeanBean but I'm pretty sure the option to force roam is included in OMJ's mod pack. You can find it in the development section here in the EVO LTE forum. As far as Verizon PRL's, I'll get back to you in a few.

Your PRL is 1? If that's the case then it didn't take. Otherwise, update your profile and reboot to see if that fixes it. It's been awhile since I messed with my PRL so I may not be of much help.

>>>DropBox is your best friend in this case...or Google Drive. I use either one of I'm feeling lazy and don't want to mount my SD card or take out my SD card and use a USB adapter. Since you're rooted, just flash the zip via recovery ( you'll need to flash twice since you're S-ON but the ROM does all the heavy lifting thanks to some baked in goodness that flashes the kernel without the need for Flash Image GUI.
UPDATE: I see that you figured out the mounting issue and you were able to flash the ROM. Good deal.
