Read in a file it says at the bottom

But without it, the phone just doesn't work right..

CD-ROM.ISO Location

I have located the cursed CD-ROM.iso file that helps trigger the autoload and prompt for Verizon Media Manager; it's in \system\etc.
Unfortunately, an attempt to rename it didn't survive reboot from temproot to normal; the directory repopulated. Perhaps someone else can figure out a away to kill or freeze it (I don't think Titanium will freeze anything that isn't an application).
maybe Scott's CleanTool?
yeah deleting it through root explorer just forced my phone to reboot
...
Boy ... we sure could use some Root

I wish it were that easy, but see from his own thread this post. Reboot restores the file (I just noticed that myself after experimenting with it.)
I don't think anything written to \system (and probably any other root directory) survives reboot after temporary root.
Turn off autorun on your pc. You should because it helps protect against viruses.
The ISO itself is not the try problem. Its whatever app mounts the ISO.
Can't you disable Auto-Run on just that drive?
EDIT: Take a look at this... http://www.samlogic.net/articles/autorun-enable-disable-nodrivetypeautorun.htm
Thanks for the info guys. Seeing vcast manager makes me homicidal.

YEah, you can do that...
But the point is there is a rouge app out there that forces that ISO to mount. I want to find that app and kill it.
Fern, any thoughts?

It behaves similar to the sandisk u3 drives, basically a partition disguised as a virtual device.
Guess no progress has been made on this issue???
I DETEST it...and I think it's the culprit preventing me from using the HTC Sync software....

I don't think there is much you can do but disable auto run on your PC. At least you won't get that annoying pop up. Con247 mentioned it earlier in this thread.

Sdcard Question?

Does Anyone know how I can determine which app is creating a Folder on my Sdcard? When I click the folder its Empty, so its basically pointless...
Thanks in Advance!
The folder is usually named something similar to the apk, so if you search through your /data/app directory you should see a similar name as the created folder.

Usually when you go in to the folder you might catch a clue of who they are and what app created them.
Many goes by the dev name or software name.

Normally when a software stores in the SD card, it will create a folder with its name or the name of the dev company that made the program.
This is not always the case but its what usually happens, and this way you may have idea of why the (xxx) folder exits

I see what you say, I have that in my SD Card too. Sometimes its in reference to apps I've had in the past, sometimes its just for caching that the apps use it. In some cases I've seen that they where there when I've had another phone and because I've been lazy on cleaning it, it just carries on to the new on.
I would say, that if they are empty, then just leave them there, maybe one day if you start fresh on a new phone or ROM then before you start up to phone just place the SD Card in the PC and delete all the suspect ones, you should have a fresh start without issues then because you'll still be reinstalling the apps and they will create the folders they need.

I delete them they come back. Theyre like spyware or something it seems and I say this because I haven't added any new apps in a long time but I remove these daily.. The newest one I was getting was z7logs which I came to find was from outlook but like I said haven't added any new apps on this phone in months... Keeps me suspicious.. Did you ever find anything out ab the myrecord folder?
Directories myrecord & myalbum
Directories myrecord & myalbum are created by the
"Easy Downloader" app and also the "Pro" variant.
Creating empty files with equal names prevents directory
creation. But uninstalling is the only way to avoid this completely.
Best regards

Stock browser

Q: If I delete stock browser will it affect the Google search bar and Google now?
Thanks

Well actually no, the browser and Google apps are different, and the only way to remove the stock browser is to go to /system then /app and remove the browser from the browser, ie cutting and pasting it.

Actually, he doesn't even need titanium backup. He could just use a file browser (ie. Root Explorer) and change the browser.apk extension from "apk" to "bak". That will accomplish the same thing as freezing it. To bring it back just change the extension from "bak" back to "apk". Then reboot.

Hey N00B, what about just removing from /system/app and moving to ext SD card? I want to clear up space in /system or will renaming .bak successfully do that?
Thanks everybody for ideas, sometimes threads in q&a section can go unanswered for awhile.

If you don't want nor use use the stock browser, then I'd either delete it or move it to your external SD card manually via Root Explorer and keep it backed up there. Freezing an app (manually or with titanium backup) will not clear up any space, just disable the app from loading or being detected. If you do want to use the stock browser, but don't want to waist precious internal SD card space... Well, you could try to move the browser.apk from "system/app" to "data/app", reboot, and then go into your phone's app settings and move it to the SD card. Guess it's worth a try, right?

[Q] SIII how to disable camera

hello all,
I am looking for app. or any other solution which disable the camera.
Does anyone have such a solution?
Thanks,
htako
You could use Titanium Backup to freeze your cammera app. (Although i suspect it would cause some future force-closes)
If you only want to prevent camera usage for a non-advanced user, you could just hide the camera icon, using samsungĀ“s touchwiz-embeded hide icons feature.
anyhow, why would someone want to disable their camera anyways?
Simple move or delete it from /system/app with something like Root Explorer...

As second poster said, freeze it, but it can be unfreezed...
But it's kinda pointless you do so from software, because other people can easily download and install another camera from play store... unless you can disable it under hardware level...

Oh, wait a sec, it just reminds me that exynos security problem,
By change /dev/exynos-mem permission, you may be able to prevent any kinda camera applications from running . At least I tried and camera runs, but only get green screen

Use something like Root Explorer or similar file manger, navigate to /dev , there is a file named "exynos-mem" , long press it, choose permission, and uncheck all box
See screenshot
I DO HOPE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING, AND TAKE NOTE OF ITS PREVIOUS PERMISSION SETTING IN ORDER TO RESTORE CAMERA FUNCTION , OTHERWISE YOU WILL DISABLE YOUR CAMERA AND WON'T BE RECOVERED EVEN YOU FLASH NEW ROM UNLESS YOU CHANGE IT TO THE RIGHT PERMISSION. AND I AM NOT TAKING ANY RESPONSIBLE ABOUT THIS!!!

Do you familliar with apps that control camera dis/en?
the solution you recommended seems to be irreversible
It shouldn't be irreversible. Go back to the file long press and select the boxes same as last time.
You're only changing permissions, once back to how it was, this will bring the camera app back.
