CD-ROM.ISO Location - HTC Rezound

I have located the cursed CD-ROM.iso file that helps trigger the autoload and prompt for Verizon Media Manager; it's in \system\etc.
Unfortunately, an attempt to rename it didn't survive reboot from temproot to normal; the directory repopulated. Perhaps someone else can figure out a away to kill or freeze it (I don't think Titanium will freeze anything that isn't an application).

maybe Scott's CleanTool?

yeah deleting it through root explorer just forced my phone to reboot

...
Boy ... we sure could use some Root

I wish it were that easy, but see from his own thread this post. Reboot restores the file (I just noticed that myself after experimenting with it.)
I don't think anything written to \system (and probably any other root directory) survives reboot after temporary root.

Turn off autorun on your pc. You should because it helps protect against viruses.

The ISO itself is not the try problem. Its whatever app mounts the ISO.

Can't you disable Auto-Run on just that drive?
EDIT: Take a look at this... http://www.samlogic.net/articles/autorun-enable-disable-nodrivetypeautorun.htm

Thanks for the info guys. Seeing vcast manager makes me homicidal.

YEah, you can do that...
But the point is there is a rouge app out there that forces that ISO to mount. I want to find that app and kill it.
Fern, any thoughts?

It behaves similar to the sandisk u3 drives, basically a partition disguised as a virtual device.

Guess no progress has been made on this issue???
I DETEST it...and I think it's the culprit preventing me from using the HTC Sync software....

Are you rooted? I believe they found it in System/etc

Crap...nope...not rooted.
Was trying to hold off on rooting...

I don't think there is much you can do but disable auto run on your PC. At least you won't get that annoying pop up. Con247 mentioned it earlier in this thread.

Phone cleaner app?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of an app like CCleaner (for Windows) or CleanApp (for Macs) that cleans up unnecessary and/or unused files in your phone? Perhaps files left behind after uninstalling an app, or files that are no longer use to use?

If you're rooted, I'd say:
ROM Managers "fix permissions" script for permissions
CacheMate for root users
Seems to keep my phone in check

Req: adfree modified to work with temp root

If anyone has a way to temp modify the hosts file to strip ads from the evo3d or has a modified version of adfree that works with the perm temp root method.
Thanks in advance

I just tried it on my Evo 3D, I checked both the symlink options. I suppose it will stick until a reboot, not unlike the perm-temp root.
Hmm. I chose the symlink options but it's not working.

I think a big issue is you need to reboot to flush the dns. But then when you reboot, you lose root. I just posted the question in the q&a forum if there was anyway to flush the dns without rebooting. So far no replies.
I'll look into that, if I come up with something ill post it here. The ads are making my eyes bleed.

Fantastic idea. I would love this as well.
Maybe we can push the hosts file with temp root after reboot.
This would be awesome. Adfree is the root app I've been missing the most since getting my EVO 3D.
Install ad free, update files, reboot, reroot. Open app and it will be granted su permissions. After that, dont update or reboot and your fine. Been running it perfect for 5 days. Dont forget you have to partition your sd card. If you have your old rooted phone, put the sd card in it and use rom manager. It WILL WIPE YOUR CARD. Always back it up.

Confirmed this works. I don't know what the sd partition had to do with hosts file, but it didn't work without it. Thanks randy.

partition for ad free
i believe, and anyone feel free to jump in on this, it stores the host files there for the ads on the sd card. if it recognizes the app is trying to access the host files, kind of like a little quarantine or filter, it stops it. With the updates (and ad free asks to report adds that leak through) it adds to those files in that partition. Just a guess.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I'm still getting adds. I did what u said but it's not working for me for some reason. I'm sure it's something I'm doing or not doing.
Edit: So I don't understand this but I tried this several times and it didn't work. So I uninstalled ad free and then reinstalled it and updated it and then without rebooting or re-rooting I went into astro and I now have no adds. Kinda weird but hey, it's working.

New market app updating

I was updated to the new market yesterday and today saw that Titanium had an update. Clicking on it opens screen that only allows for the app to be opened or uninstalled. I don't see any option to update.
How do we update with the new market?
Thanks,
SF

I had the same problem when my market auto upgraded. I think what happens is that the market account gets screwed up and it doesn't allow you to update some things. Its fixable - you have to reregister your phone with the market. The bad news is the only way I could figure to do this was to clean wipe and start over. I suppose you could factory reset to. I bet there's an easier route - but I haven't found it.

Just found an easier way : I moved vending app from /data/app to sd, pushed it back, changed permissions and rebooted and everything is fine. Thanks for taking time to answer

Sorry, I phrased that incorrectly. I know how to get in there & change the permissions. What I was wondering is how they need to be set. Is it RW-R--R--? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just don't have to do this very often & want to make sure I do it correctly.

This worked for me! Thanks guys for the clarification on setting permissions.
I thought I had this issue fixed, but it has resurfaced. I have the market telling me there is now an update for Handcent SMS, however it doesn't give me the option to update! I can only open or uninstall.
I tried the fix starflorida posted multiple times, but it just isn't doing the trick. Does anyone have an idea what's going on? Any suggestions or feedback?
There is a new version of the market rolling out today. Try clearing data and restarting market and see if that helps?

I was hoping to avoid that, just so i don't have to re-enter all of my info. But, if I can't get it straightened out, I'll give that a go.
I now have 2 apps sitting there waiting for an update that I can't complete: Handcent & Unlock with Wifi. If I click the app individually, I only get the choices of opening or uninstalling. However, if I click the button that says "Update 2", it looks like it will work! I don't get it.
Edit: I am currently getting the "Low on Space" message from my phone (I prefer not to put my apps on the SD card, if possible). Could this be the reason why I can't update my apps?
Clearing the market data seems to have worked as a temporary fix. It is no longer showing that I need to update any of my apps. However, I did not receive the latest market version. It is still the same version I had prior to clearing data, version 3.0.27
It will, when you least expect it! You can download an apk from Android central if you don't want to wait...

Why do so many people hate Rom manager? I love it and am just used to it since my cappy. I knkw it doesnt do everything with our SGS2 as it does for my cappy like reboot to recovery for nandroid backups correctly (except for using it for that purpose for cm7 works perfectly). But i like to use it for renaming nandroids and such. Easy to use and has never failed me. Wish it could be updated to fully work correctly at some point. Would be nice to get all our roms available on it/through it. Well to each his/her own i guess. I still use it to download gapps and such as well for cm7.

Lol.. seems like a lot of ppl really hate ROM Manager.
I either use ES File Explorer, or just connect to the pc and do my cleanup as necessary. I also rename the folders, so it's easier to identify which is what. Just remember if you do decide to rename your folders, no spaces , else you'll get md5 issues and wouldn't be able to restore from the backup you made.
A more interesting question is why a thread like this even needs to exist. I wondered the same thing the op did. Then I used root explorer to search and found the folder on my own. Search being the key word.

/etc/
should be PCTOOLS.iso and CDROM.iso
I found just renaming them (if you can) to PCTOOLS.iso.bak and CDROM.iso.bak is a sufficient way to disable them without having to delete them. Just in case if you ever need them, they are still there and can simply renamed again.
Thanks guys! But ya I'm well aware of the delete the .ISO files being doing that for years. That doesn't keep the CD-ROMs from mounting in windows though it just makes them blank disks. I'm also aware of the following method which doesn't work:
Dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Type Password is 000000
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)
Back out to home
I think nitsuj17 knows how to do it but I've just about exhausted my resources for all my ROM questions. Maybe I'll post my questions in Chef Central..
Also they don't mount in OSX at all its just a windows thing.
