[Q] Q:Cifs manager modules/howto - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There were 2 threads with same topic, but none was finished or conclusive.
This is one feature that i miss most: ability to play videos from my shared windows drive.
User LippiVan stated that on his stock Froyo Streak cifs manager worked, but was unresponsive to provide his working cifs.ko module.
So, if anybody else has some experience with cifs manager and playing videos from windows shares, please help.
Guess we need compiled cifs,ko module for Streak (i tried for Galaxy, but does not work), so if anybody has it, please share.
Thanks everybody,

C'mon guys!
Can't beleive that ones that don't have that function are not interested in it, and ones that have that function are not willing to share it!
Made same topic on Modaco, Fards stated that Steve did make cifs.ko in earlier rom builds. So i begin checking every rom in system/lib/modules from 1.8.1 backwards (checked 1.8.1, 1.6.1, 1.5.1 and going on - but no luck!)
Please if anybody has working cifs.ko for Streak Froyo, share it.
If anybody has interes and skills to made it, join!
Greetings to all,
D.

[Request] tun.ko for Samsung GT i5510

Hi if I could solicit some help, I am in search of a tun.ko file for openvpn for Samsung GTi5510 Kernel 2.6.32.9-perf. If anyone knows where I can get one or can teach me how to make one that would really help. Thanks
When first rom will be ready then I can build for you this module.
What do you need to make a rom?

Anyone who can help?
Thanks!
Tun.ko module will be include in beta release of Cyanogenmod 7 for 551.

It's been asked before, this is the answer. However, this is for native Android devices, and I'm not sure anyone figured out how to get it working on our port. I never did figure it out, but I'm far from an expert on this stuff.
Here's how it worked for me: (Originally provided here)
1 - Download the "libskia.rar" attached to this post.
2 - You will need the latest version of a program called "Root Explorer" (tested with 2.17.1). Download and install it on your device, and don't forget to give it superuser permissions when you run it for the first time.
3 - Extract the "libskia.so" file from the package, and copy it to the "system/lib" folder on your device using Root Explorer. Use the "mount r/w" button to give the program permission to overwrite the file.
4 - Android should restart itself automatically when you copy the file. If it doesn't, restart Android manually. Your device now shows Arabic letters correctly.
The only problem with this method is that it doesn't solve the RTL text direction problem, but it is indeed a very acceptable solution that enables you to use Android for daily use.
Try it and tell us what happens. It worked for me using FRX07.1.
Oh, and arrrghhh, thank you for your devotion and efforts to bring Android to the Tilt2. Why don't you mention this method in the FAQ so that it could be found more easily by FRX07 users? And best of luck with the GBX01 effort!

np, and glad someone made an easy guide.
Can you make one change? Can you actually attach the files instead of linking to another site? Thanks.
I will consider adding it to the FAQ, but honestly this question has only been asked maybe 2-3x in the 2 years I've been involved in this project... not a very 'frequently' asked question is my point .
Sorry for reviving a dead thread but I just wanted to know is XDAndroid deodexed or odexed, I have searched and at a guess I would say it is deodexed but I haven't found anything that gives me certainty so if anyone could answer I would be grateful.
Thanks in advanced
Just before anyone says what does this have to do with Arabic I have found this site (http://blog.devasque.com/) that seems to have a method that works across the board so I just wanted to give it a try. I will post my results
Also the method posted above is ok but it seemed to mess up my English documents.

It's AOSP... so I guess odexed? I honestly have no clue.
Arrrghhh, as you weren’t sure I thought I’d give it a go any way and after a lot of testing I found that it works so I’m guessing the rom is deodexed.
My findings, the latest patch to work on both the GB0C and FRX07.1 builds is 0.789 anything after that seems to cause either boot loops or freezes.
Also it seems to work very well with both the direction being correct and the letter displaying correctly joined.
So if anyone wants Arabic this seems like a good option, all you have to do is:
Download the 0.789 patch from http://blog.devasque.com/how-to-apply-patch/ and extract it.
Then copy the framework.jar file from the system/framework folder on your phone to the framework folder in the patch folder, after that run command.exe and follow the instructions. After it finishes you will find a new framework.jar in the generated folder just replace your old file with the new one and reboot and hopefully you should see all the Arabic and like fonts displayed correctly.
There are instructions on the site but they are for the newest patches, the instructions I have posted are from what I did with this older version they are very similar just some minor folder name changes and less files to be converted.
Just like to say all the credit goes to Madmack and the people that have worked with him.
Cool, I'm sure that will help some people

[Q] "nls-utf8.ko" compiled for Galaxy Note SGH-i717?

Hello,
Does anyone have a module "nls-utf8.ko" compiled for Galaxy Note SGH-i717?
I am trying to set up mapping of the windows share as a local resource in Android using Cifs manager but it will not accept option iocharset=utf8 and folders with non-English names don't work.
I have searched this forum and Google but have not found anything for 2.3.35.11 kernel (i717).
Maybe good folks at SAUROM Projekt can build one? I cannot contact them directly because of "10 posts" rule.
I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thank you, Lenkost.

[Q] SGS2 ICS 4.0.3 (Orig.FW + root) - How to get CifsManager to work?

Hello everybody,
My phone is already rooted by "CWM.zip->SU-Busybox-Installer.zip"-Method. Superuser App is working.
I want to stay with the original kernel and flash.
Pls find my phones's info attached.
SGS2 ICS 4.0.3 original firmware has no cifs-support.
I tried to get CifsManager to run with several md4.ko / cifs.ko / slow_work.ko / nls_utf8.ko files.
There is always the error msg: "mount: No such device" - which stands for CifsManager can't load the modules, or the modules are not preloaded in general.
I already read that I would need files specific for my phone, but I'm not able to compile it.
Does anyone has the same problem and/or fixed it?
If anyone could provide a working file/method I would send him/her 15 EUR via PayPal.
Thank you!
Best regards

Did you search your phone for the cifs.ko module? I'm asking this because I had the same issue which turned out to be a wrong default configuration of CifsManger for my phone. I just changed the path to the cifs.ko module to /lib/modules/cifs.ko. Since then CifsManager works like charm

Thanks for the fast answer fxrb.
Are you sure that you have stock kernel and/or firmware?
I can't find any "cifs.ko" file in "/lib/modules/".
I even searched the whole file system for "cifs" didn't find any files other than the one I put there manually (which won't work).
Spend hours to search for a cifs.ko for my kernel
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 4.0.3
Baseband version: I9100XXLPS
Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100XWLP7-CL340913 [email protected] #3
Build number: IML74K.XWLp7
Didn't find anything.
I guess it needs to be compiled?.
Anyone else knows how to fix it?

I apologize . I thought I was testing with the stock kernel, but that was not the case. I tested with another kernel that comes with the cifs module. I know this does not help you at all as you would like to keep the stock kernel, I am really sorry.
I do not know what your exact intension is but if you just want to up- and download files to a smb share you could use AndSMB (also found on Google Play and it does not require the cifs module). However as far as I know AndSMB does allow to mount the share as local directory on your device.

If your problem still persist please try the attached cifs.ko module. I compiled it from the Samsung kernel sources (kernel version 3.0.15, your kernel).
Please note that I ticked about everything I could while configuring the module in the kernel, hence the result is a 4MB module, quite huge .
If this module should work for you (it did for me but I could not test on stock firmware) please let me know.

Hi fxrb, thank you very much for your support! I just tried your module and it's not working for me. There is the same error msg as every time. I guess i will just have to use es explorer for this. Even if it's a little more uncomfortable. However thank you so much for everything!

I am sorry for that but I know that it is almost impossible to compile just one module and fit it into another kernel due to version magics, missing references, etc. But it was worth a try

[Q] Multi-view and Skype issue...

I am trying to make the newest Skype compatible for Multi-view. However, APK Multi-Tool fails to cooperate. (I would post the link to the tutorial but the forums won't let me.
My questions are:
1. Does this work anymore? I can't seem to get any APK files to recompile.
2. If it does work, can someone make it compatible for multi-view?
This is really making me pull my hair out. Thanks....
