Newbie in applying ROM to improve performance - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi guys, I am eyeing for improving performance of my LG OPtimus One, specially the Megatron ROM by applying cooked ROMS(probably the megatron). Unfortunately,I have less ideas yet about this due to I am still new to Android.
1. I have already rooted using Z4 for superuser
2. What to do next?
Please guide me guys......

Read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247

I would recommend the Nessy #Euridice ROM over Megatron....

Void echo rom + Dev caverman v3 kernel + galaxy s theme + CPU overclock = pwnage

@ccdreadcc
Hey...how's the dev caverman v3 kernel as compared to sippollo's or mik v1.1 ?

i tried cavemans, the multitouch is still buggy.. i think cavemans only fixes the touch response. sippollos uses cavemans touch fix and miks multitouch fix

i dnt play much games on o1 lol.
Its like very childish ..

Thank you for the reply guys.
I followed the Amon_RA recovery port..
In here: h t t p://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/221388-custom-recovery-optimus-one-p500-thunderg.html#post1896517
I am confused where is ADB shell or terminal?

Download terminal from market.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App

Now I'm confused....when you say that you have followed the amon_ra recovery method, and yet you ask what is ADB... how did you do it ...
If I assume correctly, then you want to follow the amon_ra method...right?
in that case check this out :
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-adb-and-how-to-install-it-android/
for usb drivers, use the lg tool to download the usb drivers and then either install them manually or use lg tool to install them.
After that follow amon_ra method...

Guys, I am using a terminal emulator downloaded from the market which seems easier initially(In case this wont work, Ill go with hell1134's suggestion).
hell1134, sorry, I was quite confusing, I mean I am going to follow yet amon_ra
How to put the flash_image.img and recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img to the root of my SD card? It says cannot copy, write-protected or access denied... The scenario is I extracted the zip files downloaded from the site and then copy and pasted the two image files to the SD card.
Sorry, I am still newbie about these stuffs. Please help..

copy the 2 zip to root of sd
and also extract them (on sd)
then follow instructions

@ ciolnadu
Hahaha! I dont know if I got it right but I reformatted my SD card through Windows XP reformatting so it cleaned my SD card. Then I downloaded again the two zip files to my hard disk drive and extracted the two image files to the newly reformatted SD card.

Ok...now I get the picture...
To put the flash_image.img and recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img to the root of my SD card, connect your phone to your PC with usb cable. A notification will come on your phone where there will be an option to " turn on USB storage " -> select/click it.
It will immediately turn orange and there will be another option to " turn off USB storage ". Do not click it.
Yor phone will be recognised as mass storage device by your PC. Copy the flash_image.img and recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img files to the mass storage ( like any other usb storage device like pen drive ). MAKE SURE IT IS NOT PLACE IN ANY FOLDER.
Now on the phone click " turn off usb storage " on phone and disconnect from your PC.
Well...that puts those files to your sd card's root.
Edit: Oops ... guess was a bit late ..
One advice....try to format the SD card via phone settings...might remove most sd card related problems.

@ hell1134
That is what I did and they are pasted now =)
Now I am using the Terminal Emulator and Wifi Keyboard to follow and apply the terminal codes (quite confusing for a newbie indeed but I should manage ^^ ). Now the problem is I am stuck with the code:
# mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
It says, "failed on '/system/etc/install-recovery.sh' - No such file or directly
What shall I do guys? Am I missing something?

Update:
Quoted from "Getitnowmarketing" answering to the same experienced from another user there:
You dont want that file there as it keeps recovery from "sticking" its not in all roms usually there ater you do an ota update. That command removes it. If its not there move on to next step.
>.< So seems my ROM hasnt it, so I must proceed to the next command

Update:
I am already rebooted to the Recovery Menu. I'm so excited hahaha!^^ (noob me)
I am doing a Nand Backup + Ext + Android Secure
Ill keep you updated guys. Thanks!

Auto-Nooter 3.0.0 (1.1 only)

*ALL THE USUAL DISCLAIMERS AND WARNINGS*
*THIS IS FOR VERSION 1.1 ONLY, DON’T TRY ON 1.0.0 OR 1.0.1*
Credit goes to: GabrialDestruir for the original auto-nooter, GLa’DOS for the boot animation, pokey9000 for nooter, Mistar Muffin for Market and GTalk Fix, clockworx for the “non-ugly” patch that is used to get androidID, mastapsi for testing and coding of the original auto-nooter, lewellyn for coding, [mbm] for ABI Fix, Hotaru for the Gingerbread keyboard, rpollard00 for DroidX keyboard with bigger font, bpk for Soft Keys, Ben74 for NookColor Tools which enables Non Market Installs and re-enable of ADB , Freenode's #nookcolor chat for code checking. A special thanks to all developers out there, without all of you this community would not be as great as it is.
Please Note: If you are the developer of an app that is included in this work, and would like me to remove it, feel free to contact me.
*I am copying the following step from the original auto-nooter, because they are tried and true, and people are already familiar with seeing them*
What it does:
Installs su and Superuser.apk
Installs Busybox with whoami
Installs Softkeys 3.0.6
Installs NookColor Tools (To Enable Non-Market Installs, and re-enable ADB)
Installs Calendar and Calculator.
Installs Android Market, Gmail, Youtube
Installs Gingerbread Keyboard
Enable ADB
Enable Multi-touch for Android Apps
Enables Live Wallpapers
Enables Android Market and Gmail.
App Auto Install (Open up NooterFiles from sdcard drop in /data/app)
Known Problems:
With the version 1.1 update, ADB will not stay active after a reboot or unplug of the cable. To enable each time you want to use it, you will have to go into NookColor Tools /All Settings/Development/USB debugging, you will have to uncheck the box and then recheck it.
How to Use:
Before you begin:
* To update to 1.1 you must do a complete wipe.
* You must update to 1.1 to use Auto-Nooter 3.0.0 Instructions HERE.
1 You must already have a registered NOOKcolor
2 You must have a Gmail/Youtube linked Account. IF you used a Gmail account for B&N Registration you should use that one for this process.
3 You must either have dd (Linux) or WinImage (Windows) software.
4 You must have an external microSDCard reader or this will not work. Do NOT use the NC.
5 You must have enough intelligence to follow instructions.
Let's get started:
1 Download Auto-Nooter from here: MultiUpload or MediaFire
*MD5 FB74865663B8D797A486A85022FAD9B2*
2 Linux: Unzip and use dd if=auto-nooter-3.0.0.img of=/dev/sdcard
2 Windows: Unzip and use WinImage to "Restore Virtual Hard Disk Image" to your SDcard.
2 Windows Alternative: https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download
3 Unplug your NOOKcolor from computer. (If Plugged in.)
4 Insert AutoNooter SDcard into your NOOKcolor.
5 Plug the USB cable into your computer and your NOOKcolor. (This will boot up the NOOKcolor.)
6 Your NookColor will reboot when it's done.
That was the hard part, now to the simple stuff.
7 Upon boot unlock your screen.
8 At the Android Welcome Screen skip Sign In.
9 Enable Location Services when given the option.
10 Connect to Wifi and launch Youtube from "Extras".
11 Click the Menu button (The one RIGHT of the Up Arrow).
12 Select "My Channel" and Login using your Gmail Account.
13 Exit Youtube and Launch Gmail from "Extras".
14 Sync your Gmail Account and Exit. (If it fails to sync that is fine.)
15 Open up Market and Accept Terms and Service.
If you made it this far your nook should be successfully Rooted. Go Download an App to make sure.
16 Enable Non-Market Installs by running the NookColor Tools App.
17 If your Youtube fails to launch, download the attached EVO HQ, and follow this code in adb
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
adb uninstall com.google.android.youtube
adb push YouTube.apk /system/app
adb reboot
18 Go to Settings > Device Info > SdCard > UnMount > Format
Complete Wipe:
1 8 Failed Boots > Wipes /system
2 Factory ResetFactory Reset > Wipes /data
*You must do both of these to completely wipe clean your NOOKcolor.*
*Before anyone starts to say that I took this project away from GabrialDestruir, I posted this file in the original post, and sent the OP a PM asking to update the current project. I have yet to hear back, and the post was not updated. My post can be found HERE, dated February 2, 2011. I felt that this would be of a benefit to the community, so I am posting it now. If I am asked at some point to take it down I will do so at that time.*
Forgive my ignorance here, but I thought you were never supposed to use the NC to format your SD card? (last step)
I thought I read somewhere that it messes up something in the emmc?
Hopefully I'm wrong and just paranoid

I have never really seen an explanation as to why you don't format on the NC. I have formated via the NC and the card works fine both in the NC and my PC. When I want to burn an image, I have been able too. Been able to flash other images on it too.
Excellent!
Can you please add an MD5 to the first post?

Formatting the SDcard doesn't touch the onboard storage. It is one of the easier ways to remove bonus partitions to recover the full card. UPDATE: I should clarify this: when running Eclair internally.

Any benefit of this over the 1.1r2 many of us did from autonootered 1.0.1?

You're thinking of Nookie Froyo. The stock B&N system is fine for formatting the card.
I think formatting the SD card is an issue when you use one of the Froyo images and boot from eMMC. When you format the SD card it actually formats the internal boot partition or some such. I remember reading it in one of the threads which led me to only boot the Froyo images from an external card.
I am at 1.1.0. When did 1.1.1 appear & how do I get it?
BTW Is this exactly the same as the interim A-N 2.12.25 modified for 1.1?
k
I'd say it's a typo and should be v1.1?

also interested to know that!
And if there is benefits, can we use the auto nooter?
Just for clarification, in steps 3 & 4 should the NC be turned off? I have never been sure if it matters, but the following statement makes me think that it should be off,
"5 Plug the USB cable into your computer and your NOOKcolor. (This will boot up the NOOKcolor.)"
Thanks,

I guess it should be the same, but I had a couple of games break after up'ing with 1.1_r2. So I wanted to try stock/clean 1.1 and then root...hoping this would bring them back.
help please
I'm having a problem rooting my nook color. 2 weeks ago I was fully rooted and for some reason I forget why? but I went back to stock. recently I updated to the newest Barnes & noble firmware. seeing the recent developments of honeycomb I wanted to root my nook again. so I tried downgrading to firmware before the most recent update and using that version of auto nooter. I followed the instructions exactly to a tee. the problem is my nook wont load the disk image from the sd card. I made sure to fully format the sd card before writing the img with Win32DiskImager. I made sure the nook was completely off then plugging in the usb to into the pc to wake up the nook. but nothing? the nook boots up like normal then says sd card damaged. I've formatted the sd card again and have used the newest nooter for my current 1.1. but nothing. the only difference is the first time I rooted I was at my mothers and used her pc. it was a windows vista 64 bit. my computer is windows seven 64 bit. anyone have any idea's as to why the nook wont load the sd card with the nooter image? I'm using the same sd card I was able to root from before. so I seriously doubt its the sd card. I am properly formatting it before writing the img. I am having no problem writing the img. any help would be appreciated

You probably have a bad burn on the sdcard. Are you writing to the sdcard from the sd card reader or from the nook? Also, if you return to stock, (8 failed boots, then Power+N) You should be on firmware 1.0.0 or 1.0.1. Then root using one of the two original auto nooters, download rom manager from the market and flash the 1.1 pre-rooted firmware.
Thanks buddy, I try doing that. and I don't have an sd card reader so I just put the sd card that I'm going to write into my cell phone. then mount the sd card and write the img to the same storage device that represents the sd card. I'm sure this is the wrong way of doing it but I have gotten root doing the same thing before
Giving this a go now, coming from auto-nootered 1.0.1.

Hi All! After huge search in the forum i found the guides scattered ,so i decided to put it in 1 thread helping all the newbies to install custom rom.
PROCEDURE INVOLVED
1.DOWNGRADING YOUR PHONE TO 2.2
2.ROOTING THE PHONE
3.CUSTOM RECOVERY
4.A2SD SUPPORT (NOT MANDATORY)
5.FINALLY INSTALLING CUSTOM ROM
I WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH ALL THE PROCESS IN DETAIL
GREAT NEWS : NO NEED DOWNGRADING JUST USE THE APK IN THE LINK AND ROOTING IS DONE IN ANDROID 2.2.1 AND LATER STILL I AM KEEPING THE DOWNGRADING DETAILS IF IT DOESNT WORK FOR SOME
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
INSATALLATION PROCEDURE :
here are the procedure to install gingerbread root.
-copy all files from sd card to pc(backup)
-now format sd card fat32
-place the gingerbread apk 1.20 in sd card.
-now enable usb debugging settings-application-development -usb debugging (check the box)
-install gingerbread apk using file manger .
-press root and wait .the phone will reboot if it doesnt wait fr some time and see -if it works if not remove ur battery and reinsert ,switch on check if u have superuser icon in application.
INSTRUCTION ARE PROVIDED IN THE ABOVE LINK TOO AND IF THIS APK ROOT YOUR PHONE THEN NO NEED TO DOWNGRADE AND ROOT USING Z4ROOT AVOID BOTH THE STEPS OF DOWNGRADING AND ROOTING USING Z4ROOT PROCEED WITH INSTALLING CUSTOM RECOVERY
First remove nokia drivers or other phone drivers, nokia pc suite, microsoft visual ++ runtime environments installed in pc
Install lg pc suite http://www.multiupload.com/3YHPSRS4Z0 (NEW PHONE BUYERS WILL BE HAVING PC SUITE IN SD CARD PROVIDED BY LG)
Disable LGE VIRTUAL MODEM in device manager (RIGHT CLICK ON COMPUTER- SELECT MANAGE-DEVICE MANGER-SELECT LGE VIRTUAL MODEM-RIGHT CLICK AND DISABLE)
Download the rom file and keep it in a folder
Download kdz updater http://www.multiupload.com/OZTKT703D5
Extract the KDZ file in a folder
Install msxml
Remove sd card
Change your phone display timeout to maximum (settings-display-screen timeout 30 min) and your pc screen saver to 30 min

Select Type:3GQCT | Phone mode: DIAG
Choose kdz file v10B from the option menu (THE FOLDER WHERE U DOWNLOADED THE FILE)
Click launch software update.
Wait for flashing to finish.
After the flashing is over the phone will reboot and if the phone doesnt get switch on just manually switch on the phone pressing the power button.
When the phone boots up just check the version is 2.2 then detach the cable from pc
INCASE IF FLASHING FAILS JUST TRY EMERGENCY/CS EMERGENCY(last option) AND TRY REFLASHING AGAIN
ALERT: Charge ur phone to 100 % and dont forget to disable LGE virtual modem, dont disconnect ur phone from pc until your phone boots up completely . If u want to backup contacts just enter into contacts and press menu-import export-export to sd card(u can restore ur contacts later just the same way choosing import contacts from sd card
FLASHING TIME :5 TO 10 MIN
I WONT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE GETS BRICK WHILE THE FLASHING PROCESS AS FLASHING PROCESS HAS A HIGH RISK OF BRICKING THE PHONE,BUT IF YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTION CAREFULLY THEN EVERYTHING WOULD GO FINE.
FOR BRICKED PHONE CHECK THIS THREAD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883314 (BIG THANKS TO ERROR FOR THE GUIDE)
Download z4root from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953

boot into recovery
select partition sd card
choose swap size 0 mb,ext partition 512mb (IF U HAVE A LARGER SPACE SD CARD MAKE EXT 1024 MB)
select sd ext2 to ext3 (STABLE TO USE EXT3 PARTITION)
select sd ext3 to ext4(be careful in choosing this option as the rom should support ext 4)
finish with the setup
mount sd card and transfer the a2sd file to sd card
unmount sd card
select install zip from sd card choose the a2sd file and flash
reboot
NOTE: USE A2SD ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE A CLASS 6 SD CARD(RECOMMENDED),U CAN USE IT IN CLASS 4 SD TOO BUT SOMETIMES IT CREATES PERFORMANCE ISSUE IF U DONT HAVE A CLASSS 6 OR HIGHER SD CARD.
HOW TO KNOW THE CLASS OF SD CARD- JUST CHECK ON THE CARD IT MUST BE PRINTED ON A CIRCLE DESIGN, IF U DONT HAVE ANYTHING WRITTEN IT MUST BE CLASS 2 | AVOID USING A2SD IF U HAVE A CLASS 2 SD CARD IT MIGHT RESULT IN BIG PERFORMANCE ISSUE
IF YOU FIND YOUR PHONE INTERNAL SPACE DECREASING IS JUST BECAUSE OF THE DALVIK CACHE.IF YOU WANT TO MOVE DALVIK CACHE TO SD CARD ,OPEN TERMINAL EMULATOR OR ADB AND TYPE
su
a2sd cachesd (move dalvik to sd card)
a2sd cachesdreset (move dalvik to sd card and clears contents of dalvik-cache)
a2sd cachepart (move dalvik to cache partition)
a2sd cachepartreset (move dalvik to cache partition and clears contents of dalvik-cache)
Boot into clockwork recovery.
go to backup and restore -create a backup of your current rom (Note:If already backup has been done then avoid this step, backup created using amonra or thunderg wont support restoring using clockwork)
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe dalvik cache
mount and storage-format system
go to mount and storage-format sd card
advanced-partition sd card-choose 512 mb (preferable)or 1024 mb (it automatically creates ext 4 partition, class 6/4 is preferred)
mount and storage-mount usb storage (make sure usb debugging is enabled)
copy the rom zip file to the root of your sd card
unmount
install zip from sd card-choose the rom zip and install
flashing takes 3-5 min
reboot

don't you think we already have enough guides over here?
Kindly remove the installation of custom recovery via adb. Show it via terminal emulator. Its hassle free and from phone only.
Also attach the recovery 1.2 here. Also guide the user to unzip it.
Also attach darktremor script here.

This guide is wonderful, I was just about to post on another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844483 how they should try an clean it up a lil, it is quite a mess over there. My P509 should be here on 4/20/11, cant wait to get started since I already know it is coming preloaded with 2.2.1(1st time Android user coming from 5 year stint with WinMo). Ive been researching the P509 for about 2 months(4-8 hours a night) here on the Android side of XDA, and it has been a journey, anyway your guide will definately help the average noob, in my case I really appreciate the lessons I got from browsing through the different threads and forums associated with this phone. All in all best guide Ive seen so far really sums it up.
Neat guide. I'd suggest one tiny thing. Its not really mandatory to install the adb. Mentioning that as an optional would keep things clear

I really would like to believe the above mentioned statement and that you missed my thread [HOWTO] Rooting, Installing - Android SDK, Custom Recovery, Custom ROM's dealing with the same topics except for the fact that we exchanged multiple PM's during your attempt at following the instructions given in my post.
This post feels like an abridged and in certain respects incomplete version of my above mentioned post in most places except for the a2sd part which I chose not to include as certain ROM's include a2sd by default.
Anyway, I appreciate your attempt to help out newbies.

Moved to general, has there are some threads already in dev section for help.

Hey flashing d new rom, flashes new kernal also or it jst flashes a new rom ?
Sent from my LG-P500
It depends on what the developer has included - a new kernel or stock kernel.
Usually custom ROMs come with a modified kernel because there are improvements compared to the stock one.

just check the rom u r installing and it must be mention in changelog whether the devleoper has included the kernel or not but most of the time the kernel is included , if u are not satisfied with the kernel rather u can try diffrent kernels available over here in xda

This is a very useful guide for me who is very new to android. Its always important to have less complicated guide with updated methods every now and then for the newbies. Good work.
A few questions though. How important is it to remove visual C++ from my PC? I can see many versions of it installed on it by default (I never installed it myself). I am afraid removing it might mess up other programs on my PC. Also isn't the default Gingerbread app2sd enough to run apps from the sd card? What additional features does Darktremor have?

its not that important as i myself have it installed c++ 2005,2008 but somtimes it might block flashing that why its suggested to do so,as for a2sd many rom has is pre installed but some requires flashing a2sd as for fransisco tweaks it helps in sustaining battery so i am not so worried about it as mik cm7 for me seems to be stable but i am looking forward for ungaze contribution to xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042828 as using this really makes our phone perform to next level just waiting for his updates..

using the 32 bit mode is preferable just remove those as it wont hamper any performance on ur pc. it will get automaticallly updated from some software or games while installing so no worries on removing .

[Q] Help needed to root NT 1.4.2 with Indirect's or other method?

I am with a Nook Tablet 16gb that was purchased with 1.4.0 and is now with 1.4.2. I was happy sideloading on 1.4.0, but now understand I have to go rooting...
I have been trying several methods, and just can't get it though. One problem is I am in Africa, and downloading 100MB images takes more than 2h and recurrently fails with size mismatches or other errors before the end
Now, I am sure I should be able get Indirect's methods work, but end up with some nothingness...:
1> Indirect's method one: "make a magic SD card to load up CWM, and root their device"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21895025&postcount=14
I go through all steps with no problem, run CWM. However, for the last step to install zip from CWM:
- I guess it refers to the CWM_SD_flash_and_exe.zip again? It tells me fail to install, and the log says ""failed to open /sys/class/android_usb/android0/state: no such file or directory""
- I also tried using NT-CWM-SD.zip provided elsewhere by Sprint (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583à), same thing
2> Indirect method two: "How to root 1.4.1 (or any other version) using just an sdcard {easy}"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466583
I tried the 1st (non windows) approach, that was creating a partition on the SDcard myself (did with Acronis Disk Director Suite, worked well),
I did the partition, copied the required files on the root of SD card, got CWM running. But then, the tutorial says:
Now you just need to download this zip file:
http://goo-inside.me/apps/Indirect/N...s_and_root.zip
just put onto the /mnt/media/ directory or you can push to /emmc/ while in CWM.
I am not sure I understand these instructions... I got the Gapps_and_root.zip onto my SDcard root, used CWD mode to unzip & install it successfully.
After that I reboot... I think it asks me to reset the tablet (someway like I have no choice), and then opens the Nook wizard and I cant get anything else out of it.
3> CM7 alpha final
I am now trying to use the CM7 method through SD card (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826) but dont succeed to download the required 120MB file... (Team-B-CM7SD-Alpha_final.img.zip)
=> So... any help or idea to get out of this?
NB: I am computer savy but not Android expert (though I killesed myself twice to install android market on chinese devices and learnet something), I can use a SDcard reader or USB cable but dont know to run ADB or alike. Again, I have trouble to download huge files!
Thanks a lot to help me... I am pulling my hair here already 3 days
I understand the experts are on this forum, and hope to get some help or I ll get mad and my husband's Xmas present will go useless... (he is Mozambican and we found out B&N has no portuguese books! I need Kindle.. and few other apps!)

Sideloading still with Sideload Wonder Machine on Nook 1.4.2?
Sorry, yes. I have now asked the moderator.
Sideloading still with Sideload Wonder Machine?
In the meantime, I ve found in this great sticky post:
NT Reference Thread | Tips & Tricks | How to's | Videos | NEWBIE?
It talks of this Windows programme to sideload any apps.
http://www.androidcentral.com/sideload-android-apps-all-you-want-sideload-wonder-machine
I wonder if that still can work on Nook 1.4.2 (unrooted)?
Please help understand the instructions
Well, this was originally posted here and then moved to my own thread by some admin I guess....

[MODS/HACKS/THEMES] Nook Tablet ONE-STOP-SHOP for CM7 | UPDATE! March/12
Hi,
I understand this thread is not supposed to be for newbies, yet I am not an expert, but every other method I tried failed (Indirect's method, etc, see here) and I am having troubles (from Africa) downloading big files, so this one I got and I am willing to try because I really need to get out of Nook rom. Though I'd love some advice
I am with a Nook 16Gb Tablet that I got with 1.4.0 and had sideloaded apps. Now it is on 1.4.2 and I have reset everyting in various previous attemps, so it is quite clean. Unrooted. I have a SD card, a disk partitionning software, and a USB cable, but no ADB.
My goal is, minimum, to be able load few apps (Kindle, a radio I like, etc), and if it is rooted and with access to Market, even better, then I'll do even more.
Luckily, I have been able to download the various files in this post.
My questions:
1> internal or SD ?
Which method you think is simplier and more stable?
2> Stable versions now?
It looks like these versions have started as beta, but been improved; Could they be considered stable now?
I saw there are other ones out there, but I could not succeed download them ("Team-B-CM7SD-Alpha_final.img_001.zip")
4> Requirements
Do I understand well there are no special requirements before starting that? Can be on unrooted device, 1.4.2?
3> reading the instructions...
I am not so expert and may need some help:
1. Download the file of the mod you pick
=> OK
2. Copy the zip file in the root (/) of Internal OR External SDcard (Pick one)
=> OK for external. But if you talk of internal, does it mean the tablet should already be rooted?
3. Verify md5 of the file >> ES File Explorer>Properties let you check md5
=> Is this step compulsory? How do you do that with an unrooted tablet and no ES file explorer in?
4. Boot into CWM
=> This I knew to do with Indirect method. Does it mean I should have done that before? Or the img file provided here will enable me do it ?
4.1 Go to Backup & restore>> Backup your current ROM if you haven't already
=> ok
4.2 Format system, Wipe cache, advanced>> Wipe dalvik cache
=> Is this step compulsory? How do you exactly do that, all from CWM?
4.3 Re-flash CM7 ROM
=> Does that just mean to reboot?
4.4 Flash the mod
=> Does that just mean to reboot? apparently not... then how?
5. Reboot your device. ENJOY!
I am sorry for beeing so basic, but I am sure I ma not the only one...
Thanks for the precious help!
If you are just trying to root the device, try this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439630
Thanks for the link, I will do!
Does this mean the NT must be rooted BEFORe going for this CM7 procedure?

Nook won`t boot after cwm failed to install img

Nook tablet 8gb won`t boot after cwm failed to install cm7 img. Cwm version 5.5.0.4, just hangs on me everynow and then. I managed to boot from sd card created with cm7, i can boot on sd, but one large piece of my sd card is not accesable, i can not create partition or increase size of the first partition created by cm7 img. Also i`m trying to use adb to run "parted" script, but lt just wont let me, permission denied, i`ve tried chmod 777 sdcard, and chown root it too...
Ok...because i`m so really tired of f..ing around this that nook and spended too much time on it, instead of being with my family, all i want is to make that big chunk of sd card partitioned and accessable, so i can wath movies and read books, thats all i want after 3 days of torcher...

I have put a procedure for 8GB model, read it up. just try to flash stock recovery then use the stock 1.4.2 update .zip to unbrick and go back to purely stock. Do not attempt to flash CWM until there is a fully working version for 8GB NT model, anyways you can't flash any other ROM so...

Oh I see. Did you get an error or it just hung at 25% while attempting to flash stock 1.4.2 from sdcard.
If you want to troubleshoot this then post it up in my thread so I try to help you there, is better for future reference . And you need to be more specific. Check last page of that thread.

[Q] NT 16GB always boot to Recovery Mode only

Hello,
I've searched many topics but still didn't work
My NT 16GB worked good till today. Today I want to flash a new ROM (CM10.1 rc5).
I though I made a mistake from here: from ROM Manager, I flashed the CWM to 6.0, but I might flash with Nook Color version :crying: and from this time, my NT is ALWAYS boot into recovery mode.
- I tried press Power and N button or 8 times fail reboots but it still boot into recovery
- I tried flash new ROM from sd card, and the status is shown Installing Update.... and then it shown Install from sd card completed!!! There was no any notification more (as usual). And after "completed" by this way, reboot and still went into recovery mode again
- I also tried flash new cwm version 6.0.x, wipe data, format system, data,.... and flash ROM again from sdcard but still didnt work.
- I also tried reset to factory default http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836 but it still boot into CWM again and again.
- and follow many topics on google search but still no luck
please anyone can give me a hint, let me see the way to escape the recovery screen :crying::crying: thank you so much!
I want to flash a new ROM, a fresh tablet to make a gift for my dad on father's day, but it is brick :crying::crying::crying:
I think using ROM manager to flash recovery may not work with our device (I may be wrong) but we don't have an official build of CWM.
Regardless.... Do you have adb set up? If so, does it recognize your nt?

Ok, no big deal yet. Lets try the following.
First you are going to need an extra SD card, one greater than 2G. Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21895025&postcount=14 and follow the instructions. This will give you the files and show you how to make a CWM bootable SD card (ignore all the steps about rooting your device in this thread for now). Note that this will repartition your SD card, so you will not be able to use is for much else unless you re-repartition it yourself.
To tell if this is successful or not, note the version of CWM you are now booting into, I am guessing it will be 6.0.3.1 (newest version) since you tried getting this from Rom Manager. If it is booting from SD card it should show up as version 5.0.x.x (I don't remember the exact version but it is older).
If you got it to boot from SD card then lets pull an updated version of CWM from this site http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery The older version of CWM may not work well with CM10.1. try CWM 6.0.2.9, make sure you download the flashable CWM zip and not the image file.
OK now you will need to put this zip file onto your SD card - there should be just enough room left for it, or you could put it onto a 2nd SD card (easier) Note: while in recovery you can take the bootable SD card out of your NT. Go ahead and flash the CWM zip. You should now have a working recovery. At this point try flashing a ROM of your choice.
Good Luck

Hello DavDic,
Thank you for your help,
I follow your link and I success to boot from SD card, and CWM version is 5.0.5, then I success install the update.zip too, unfortunately after removing the sd card and reboot, it still boot to CWM version 6.0.2.9 - this is the version that I flash from ROM Manager before my NT is bricked (I flashed wrong device when I choose Nook Color in Rom Manager)
So I try to reboot again from sdcard, cwm version 5.0.5, then flash new CM10.1 ROM, and reboot and still go to CWM 6.0.2.9
and again, I boot from sdcard, cwm version 5.0.5, flash to new cwm version 6.0.2.9, flash new ROM and still boot to CWM screen
So, I can create and boot from a Sdcard, But can not boot to OS, always go to cwm 6.0.2.9 screen (that I think the wrong file since I flash from Nook Color file ). Thank you!

I think your problem most likely has to do with BCB/BootCnt not getting reset properly, as described at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21381141&postcount=1.
If so, the easiest way of resetting these files is to flash Succulent's flashable_fix_bootloop.zip at his repo http://goo.im/devs/succulent/acclaim/recovery.

You should have an adb connection then. Before you jump into the total wipe attempt, try getting an adb connection. Use this first and see if it works http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36650082&postcount=171
You will need the driver files for this though, let me know if you don't have them.

These two files are in the /bootdata partition (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37515697&postcount=31 for a list of the NT partitions and their content).
But if OP's flashing Succulent's flashable_fix_bootloop.zip (which basically re-install a fresh copy of these two files) didn't fix the problem then he might have wiped out some other critical components of the system.
I follow Adam's guide, unbrick my NT, and then flash new CM10.1 ROM perfectly.
Thank you again DavDoc and digixmax for helping me so much! :good:
Glad you got it working again
