Have there been any attempts to access the car dock app without the Motorola branded car accessory?
I've seen posts about the media dock tricks but haven't found much on the car dock app.
Thanks!

Yes you can access it with out the dock
Easiest way is with a launcher replacement like Launcher pro. Then do the following:
Add to home screen -> Shortcuts -> Activities -> Car dock (click to expand options) -> Cardock (com.motorola.cardock.main.CardockMainActivity)
That will add an icon to the homescreen that will launch the car dock. Works Flawlessly.
Thanks for the information. Is there a way to do it without the use of a launcher? I'm currently using the stock launcher and very happy with the speed.
If I were to do so through LaunchPro, would it remain following uninstallation of the launcher?
I haven't tried it myself as I love Launcher Pro, but some people have reported that if you create the shortcut then unistall the alternate launcher, it will remain.
If you install anycut from the market, you can create the shortcut on your home screen. I just tried it and it worked perfectly.
just install the cardock launcher (it's in the google car dock app (v2) threads) and you can launch it like any app. i'll attach the apk tomorrow if you can't find it.

I've got the D2G and the multimedia dock as well. I am looking for a way to add a widget from doggcatcher to my desk clock screen. I have not been able to find an app that would allow this, I have also contacted the dev and he is stumped as well. I have root access on a stock rom, is there an app to customize the dock screen or a way to edit the dock.apk to either add the doggcatcher widget or associate the existing music widget to doggcatcher?
Try "Desktop Visualizer." You can map almost any function to any image. In this case, you're going to want PNG file(s) of the actual icon (which you could make yourself in Photoshop). I just actually did this with my dock setup. I used launcherpro icons (PNGs downloaded right from their website - come to think of it, I think they have Doggcatcher) so that they all match. It looks SO much better. Good luck!

Just wondering if anyone has used SPB Mobile Shell on the touchpad. If so, how did it perform? Also, any chance we can get the Advent Vega launcher to work on the touchpad?
If you are interested in the Advent Vega 3D launcher check this out. Mostly everything works.

Not sure why either of these things are. I am however looking for a good tablet friendly launcher. What does everyone else use? Go and adw don't seem to adapt well to the tablet. I have the same problem on my xeen. The dock is on the side and everything is all spaced out. There is an honeycomb style launcher on the market but it has its own buttons on the bottom.

VTL Launcher is derived from ADW but adapted for tablets. It has a bottom dock bar that accommodates more than the standard four or five icons. Additionally you can add dock bars to the left and right of the screen, and all three can scroll as in ADW. That's what I'm using.
I tried out ADW EX which also turns ADW's hidden dockbar into a really nice looking tablet dock, and it let's you use HDPI 72x72 icons if you'd like. However, it was incredibly buggy, so I'm back to VTL.
I'm interested to know if anyone can recommend a third option. Of course, once ICS is here I may just use the standard launcher...
I am trying out different dock interfaces for my newly-acquired vehicle dock and have found that none of them seem to have a decent MP3 player app. The stock one with Google Car Home is just downright unusable (IMO) and the only other Android music app I really use is TuneIn, which is not an option for the car.
Any suggestions?
For the dock itself, I've started using Car Home 3 for its widget support (https://market.android.com/details?id=net.cwfk.ig88.carhome3).
I use google music for all my mp3 player needs (docked and undocked), and use its widget in Car Home 3.
And I use Tune In Radio Pro all the time while driving...don't know why it's not an option. Again, it has a widget that I use in Car Home 3.
After trying 5 different free MP3 players, the winner (for me) is ... Mort Player. Get it here:
Hands down, the easiest to use while on the road and a decent usable interface.
It has folder navigation and playlist support and a nice graphic EQ.
As far as the dock program, CarHome Ultra is definitely the one that has impressed me the most. Get it here:
Excellent layout and customization (6 shortcuts AND the speed/compass/weather) and only $1.99

You mean this Car Home and not Car Home Ultra? Because I don't know of a way to add widget in Car Home Ultra
Yes, that like takes you to the same one I linked. I used Car Home Ultra for a while because it is visually nice, but in the end Car Dock Home v3's support for widgets won me over...and it's free!
I set up the screen with a 4x4 grid. On the main page I put their dashboard widget as 2x1 widget on the first row, Beautiful Widgets superclock 4x2 widget next to it shrunk down to fit in the 2x1 space, two rows of buttons, followed by a 2x1 google music widget and 2x1 TuneInRadio Pro widget.
Attached a screenshot of what I am describing.

It was likely one of the 5 you tried..... but just in case I use PowerAmp and love it. Has a 4 x 4 size widget and .flac support.
Edit: found a much simpler way, feel silly now. Just open app drawer, move from dock to app drawer, then add any app you want to dock.
So I've been stumped on this since I got my One. Just stumbled into this solution. Stock unrooted 4.1.2 T-Mobile HTC One. Here's what I did.
To replace the browser icon with Chrome:
Go to Settings, Apps, All Apps, go to the stock browser (Internet), select Disable. Check to ensure it has disappeared from the dock bar. Open the launcher drawer, long press Chrome as if to add to a home screen, then put it in the empty space where the stock browser was before.
Voila.
If you want, you can enable the stock browser again.
The only thing I've noticed so far is that this caused Chrome to actually disappear from my app drawer. Strange, but I'm happy with it in the dock.
Hope this helps anyone like me.

thanks for sharing your ideas.
the way to change the dock icons are to hold down app icon in drawer and drag down, to remove do the opposite drag icon up out of dock into app drawer... much easier than disabling apps and yes it does make it disappear from app drawer however it seems on the home screens if you drag an icon up from the dock it clones it if you want the icon somewhere else too

Is there one you can refer

Many, many,m...... but you can also use Wear Mini Launcher with his "interactive touch" -> one button overlay to access at 9 apps.
Wear Mini Launcher is what I use, too. It's like having the equivalent of your phone's app drawer.
