No its not

From MicroSD you can only flash .zip files. Otherwise you have to usethe LG utility. But if you have such problems with your phone, try to reflash the rom you want to use and don't forget to wipe data and cache before flashing.

Anyone know of a custom ROM....

That can be flashed through Odin?
Im unable to flash any ROMs through CWM or through recovery since I have a problem with the SD card (had this problem after flashing a stock Froyo ROM) also after doing this I cant get into recovery or download through the 3 button combo, used to be able to do it but cant anymore for some reason (I think its also because of the Froyo flash), I have CWM installed and every time I try to flash any ROM it gives me an E:Error cache/sd (Status 2)
I havent been able to fix this issue, so I thought of trying to work around it, I am able to get into download mode using ADB, so I was hoping to find a custom ROM that can be done through Odin, by trying a new custom ROM Im hoping to get rid of my SD card issue (card says its write protected but its not)
Your best bet would be to odin back to stock and go from there. Start back off with a clean slate and be able to use ClockworkMod. Just check the stickies for the proper procedures.
Oh, and just for reference, you are putting the .zip ROM file on the root of you internal memory? If not, try that with ClockworkMod again and see what happens.

I would have to second the Odin back to stock recommendation as well.
Last thing you want to do is soft brick the phone while it's hardware locked. That's a recipe for hard brick if I ever saw one.

When you guys say stock... do you mean back to stock 2.1 or 2.2?
All my issues have started from flashing a stock 2.2 ROM
Do you guys have a link to a stable stock ROM?
I think I still have the stock ROM that I flashed but Id rather not use that one
Thanks for the help guys

I am referring to stock 2.1. All the Froyo builds are unofficial. Just do a search in the vibrant Android dev section for JFD. That is the latest official Rom, which 2.1.

Need help restoring my phone

So pretty much my phone is not useable atm. when you unlock the phone it goes to a black screen where the only thing you can do is pull down the menu. you cant lock the phone back up or anything. you can also no longer get into xrecovery to flash a new rom onto it or anything. I can still use flashtool but from what I know you can only flash BBs onto the phone.
Does anyone know a way to maybe flash a new ROM onto my phone or restore it from a nandroid or anything?
I think the best way is to restore it with PC Companion to the stock ROM and then root it and put some custom ROM in.

Hey,
I am having the same issue when trying flash with PC Companion. But am running CM6.1.3 fine for a week now. I wonder what I'm gonna do when I need to go back to stock SE.
Any thoughts?

just use flashtool.... it's the best way to fix any problem.. turn off your phone, let it stay off for a minute or two, and just flash the latest firmware...
you can use flashtool like said in above post from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746&highlight=flashtool
and then I think the best thing is to first flash original ROM from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733&highlight=flashtool
When you have done that use the flashtool to install the latest recovery menu.
And when u have done this you can use the recovery menu to go back to your latest nandroid backup since it is still on your SD
good luck, and sorry if you already know this
Think you already found this but here is it anyway in case you didn't : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Is is guide for the flashtool with stock ROM in the thread.

[request] optus rom

Hey guys
just got my sgs2 on monday, flashed it with generic firmware before i read anything about optus not releasing the firmware. i have issues with my screen being blurry, blue hue etc and i wish to take the phone back
so im wondering if anyone made a back up of their optus firmware
if so can i please get a copy, i had ke7 on mine but any optus will do
ive ordered myself a jig to remove binary code counter
also im sure there is a guide but i cant seem to find it, on how to restore from a nandroid backup and then remove root so its completely stock again
can someone please point me in the right direction
this screen issue is really buggin me enough to return it or sell it and buy a htc sensation
supposedly optus havent heard of any screen issue with sgs2 until i called them
hope someone can help
cheers
so im wondering if anyone made a back up of their optus firmware
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7NEQO96U
Somebody was kind enough to post this on Whirlpool forums I have not had a need to use it yet, so good luck with it.
Cheers
thanks heaps mate
now... how to get it back on there
Sweet, an optus rom
Been looking for AGES for this!!!
Now, the question, am I correct in assuming this is a complete package? If so, will an odin flash, plus a hit with the USB Jig, be all that I need to get this back to stock?
i think it must be restored with cwm but im not 100% sure on that
im goin to look for a guide
got to go out now so ill check back later
unless someone can give us a link now that would be fantastic
ya this is for cwm

1. ok first of all download and flash this kernal
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1226649534/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OJV_KF1-v4.0-CWM4.zip
2. it will install CWM manager in your device open it and backup your device
3. connect your device to pc/ mac and goto phone memory and then
clockworkmod > backup > (extract your optus rom and )put it there
4. in CEM press restore, it will show you (your backup) and optus backup rom, press OPTUS one and it will restore and restart, now you would have optus rom
5. check optus things (is these there as they came with new phone)
6. download s1 root/ unroot from this link
http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/06/16/one-click-root-and-unroot-for-samsung-galaxy-s2-sii/
7. unroot your phone, (may be you will also need to restore original kernal but not sure about it - give it a try and see if there is a yellow triangle when you restart your phone then you will need to flash stock kernal, let me know if there is yellow triangle up on restart, i will then tell you to flash stock kernal if you do not know how to flash it ) now you need to reset counter
8. buy usb jig from ebay, here is a link
http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=usb+jig&_sacat=See-All-Categories
9. reset it and you are on stock
if there is anything new please let me know this will help you both and many others to learn new things

not sure, you can try it by deleting or also by coping optus rom using external sd card if you have one
its because the optus rom is missing a boot.img file

will the boot.img from my latest rom work?

Newbie questions before rooting

I still have a few questions before rooting my phone for the first time.
1) if i root 2.3.6 using the right kernel, Can i still install an ics custom rom like resurrection?
2) if i root stock 4.0.3 Poland version or argentinian version, final result of installing a new custom Rom is gonna be the same because it completely replace the first one?
3) what's the difference between nandroid backup and cwm way to backup custom rom? Do i need to keep my backup inside the phone in order to unbrick it tomorrow, or may i just store it on my notebook and delete it from the phone?
Thanks a lot!!

1) Rooting is just to give you access to CWM.. ergo the ability to install custom ROMS so you can install ROMS after rooting
2) When you flash a new ROM (which is rooted) then you dont have to bother about what did you did before that..
3) If i'm not mistaken CWM only allows u to do a nandroid backup.. And if u want to restore to the backup ( in ur case unbrick :silly U need to have that in ur sd card :good:
Happy rooting.. Happy flashing..
1) Follow whatever instructions the rom you're wanting to use has to the letter.
2) If you install a custom rom, then yes, obviously it will replace any stock rom you flash it over the top of.
3) A CWM backup is a Nandroid backup. It's the same thing. You can store your backups wherever you want. I have my 4 most recent Nandroids on my phone, and I have every backup I've ever done on my phone stored on my PC (and another copy on an external drive I use for backups). So I guess the question you're asking is, can I take a Nandroid backup from ages ago stored on my PC, put it on my phone & restore it. Am I right ? If that's what you're asking, the answer is yes.
Thanks. Actually i was asking in case my phone bricks after installing a new rom. I guess i won't be able to come it back to life if i don t have the backup in the phone.
And one more thing. What is efs backup. Do I also need to do it?
Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Yes. The 2nd thing you should do after your root your phone (first thing is do a Nandroid backup) is to get kTool from Google Play & backup your EFS. Before you install another rom or kernel do both of those.
Keep a copy on your external sdcard & keep another copy on your PC. Just in case you ever need it. We get quite a few people on here every week with IMEI/EFS details gone & most don't have EFS backups.
thanks!
I forgot to ask, is there any real risk at using triangle away app? So far, is it working on any kernel? thanks

I've actually used that app a few times well (about 5) and haven't had any issues but once you get CWM installed and you flash kernels through it you won't get the yellow triangle.

There will always be a risk when using anything that manupulates root access, but triangle away is quite safe, as for what kernel if works on, most kernel threads will say if it is compatiable or not, but only with ICS kernels, not GB kernels.
"...once you get CWM installed and you flash kernels through it you won't get the yellow triangle."
What do you mean by that? I actually don´t need to use the app, because triangle will dissapear anyway after flashing a Kernel?

You will still have the triangle after flashing a new rom or kernel, the best way to get rid of it is triagle away, this app will also reset your flash counter.
Once you get a working CWM, let's say you're using Cyanogenmod 9 and you want to flash over the stock kernel.
You'd put the kernel file on the memory of the device (sdcard) and boot in CWM recover and flash from there and you won't get the triangle.
The triangle won't go away now if you unless you use a USB jig or the triangle away app. So get rid of the triangle now and when you want to try a new kernel flash it through CWM and the triangle won't appear. Flash a kernel through download mode and you'll get the triangle.

Fixing permissions is automatic I believe in CWM recovery. It's an option in the recovery menu. Remember to wipe data and cache (dalvik too) when flashing a next rom or else you won't be able to boot.

Thanks for the info mate
By the way, you should really just buy a USB Jig off eBay for a few quid, it resets the custom binary counter (on old bootloaders) and can also force your phone into download mode after a bad flash. Handy to have around. Also, now that you have rooted your phone, download EFS Pro (found here on XDA) and back up your EFS folder before any flashing. Lose this folder and your in serious trouble!

Hi! When rooting or flashing a custom rom or kernel, do I lose internal sd card content?
Where is the EFS folder I need to backup?
Thanks!

[Q] Restore ROM backup Or re-flash stock

S3 is rooted and it has CWM 6 recovery.
Today, I was trying to flash a custom rom (UltimaROM) but the installer crashed at the end, resulting in a soft brick (stuck boot logo forever).
I was told to follow the steps again and pray for a success. But somehow, the custom ROM .zip file from the S3's internal SD got deleted. So, I don't know how to put the custom rom back into the SD again. There's no USB storage in CWM 6, so I cannot transfer the zip file - unless I'm missing something else.
I don't have an external SD, either, but I do have a backup of my working ROM. However, my backup ROM isn't on the internal SD as well. All of the stuff are on my PC.
Is it possible to re-flash my backup ROM via Odin? If so, how?
If not, I'd re-flash my Stock ROM and start over again... but the problem is I don't know how to find a correct stock firmware for my S3. It's been almost 1 year since I rooted my S3. Samsung KIES doesn't even have the special information (sale code?) for my S3... unless I connect S3 to PC, but I get problems (Kies stuck on connecting)
Thanks in advance.

I seriously don't know this stuff.
