Hello XDA,
I woke up this morning without the help of my alarm on my samsung vibrant running stock 2.1 eclair. I set the alarm last night to 9.30 and it didn't go off. I woke up and thought it was strange and set the alarm a couple of times to test it. Nothing happened. I then installed a couple of market alarm apps (better alarm, alarm clock plus) and these didn't work either. can someone please tell me whats going on? thanks

have you done any work with the sound and/or equalizer?
Any task killers? Usually when this happens the alarm service is terminated.

+1 I had the same problem and it was my task killer shutting it off. If you are running one, you can setup which programs to kill, and which ones to leave running.
Why anyone uses task killers anymore is beyond me...

Today, not for the first time, my alarm didnt turn on when it was supposed to (yes phone was in normal mode). I had it set for repeating on Thursday at 7:45 gmt and nothing. My roommate also didnt hear anything.
Its very annoying and also very dangerous as my exam term is quickly approaching. Anyone had same problems and managed to repair it? Or is there any different app for alarm?
This really never happened to till I updated to 2.1! After I updated to 2.1, the very first day my alarm didn't turn on. But fortunately it never happened again!
since I updated to 2.1 never happens to me

this as been related with task killers
if u use any u should put alarm on ignore list
1'm still on 1.6 donut... haven't experienced this.
i use it every day to wake me up for work.
Use alarmdroid. Search the market. It's so much better than the stock. There's flip to snooze (works pretty great) Speaking clock that speak what time it is on top of the alarm ringtone. and many other.

That could be it. I use one, but dont have auto-kill. I placed alarm on ignore, hope it will help.
I don't have that issue, but 1 or 2 times since I updated to 2.1, the snooze didn't work.

3rd time here. No task killers.
Definitely snooze is not working properly
I have figured out, the problem was due to Task-Killer only.
My problem is sure not dues to task killers and is exactly as in here,
http : / / talk.sonyericsson.com/message/15832
alarm suddenly decides to snooze after 1h10min instead of 10 min, which in practice is not to snooze... Now I'm using alarm droid
Use Alarm Master and your problem is solved.
I had similar issue, but whit this app everything work perfect.
I can advice AlarmDroid: http://www.netzpurist.de/2010/11/alarmdroid/
it's free ;-)
sorry doublepost. plz delete
AlarmDroid
And I second (or is it n'th already) AlarmDroid. I was using it already in 1.6 and it was the first app I installed on 2.1. Does what it has to do and has the right options!
okay so what you wanna do is go to settings, then go to accounts & sync then uncheck background data! It wont affect anything but the market so when you wanna download stuff you just have to turn it back on then off. This will increase your battery 100 percent no lie! It made my phone amazing.
Also good if you do not want to receive any emails or notifications of any sort...
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
I just have a 3G switch in my notification bar so I can turn it off/on quickly when I want, and doing so saves my battery countless hours of life. I turned my phone on 7 hours ago and I've only had 3G turned on once for some quick browsing and resyncing my contacts with Facebook, and I'm still at 90% battery (and I've done a fair amount of messaging today and made two phone calls)
How do you put that in your Notification bar? I'd really like to be able to do this that easily.

There is an app in the market called widgetsoid that can do it. Or you can flash a CM rom. They all can do it natively. There's other ways but these are just a couple that can get you started.

Well, I often change my Google cal on the web on a desktop PC (or in iCal on my Mac) - much easier - and I wouldn't get gmail with background data turned off. So, it does affect more than the market, actually.

Using MacROM and smartass governer, turning off BT/WiFi and GPS, I was able to get 2.5 days of battery out of mine on a recent weekend camping trip. Unless I'm on the phone or REALLY texting a lot, I can make it from 7am to midnight and still be on >25%. The ROM can make a HUGE difference!
Kind of the same as turning the phone off... the battery will last a week with it off.
Isn't that amazing? It could probably even last twice as long with it turned off. Good luck getting any notifications, though. Of course, there are some days that it would be nice to have it turned off.

I live in the boonies and work in the boonies. Turning my 3G off also seems to increase my useable signal for texting and calls. Also saves the battery big time. There is no drawback for me. Besides texting I dont have to have instant notifications from FB or my email.
How wrong the op was lol
On my previous phone which was a Samsung Omnia i8000, for the inbuilt Alarm Clock there was a wake up function. This would allow the user to set the alarm to what ever time to set it off (say 7am), switch the phone right off, and when say 7am came the phone would automatically turn itself ON and the Alarm would go off.
But I would like to know if the Galaxy SII has or can do this. I can seem to find this option in the Alarm clock.
Try it

you need NoMoarPowah from Chainfire

Oh well I will experiment on my Galaxy SII and see what happens.
Thanks
If you turn the phone off nothing will happen. The phone won't turn on.
Just enable flight mode before you go to sleep and keep the phone on. You can also do this automatically with tasker or probably a ton of other apps on the market.

It would be a shame if it does not work.
I recall my good old Nokias used to wake me up even if the battery ran out and they powered down.... guess there is no such reliability with current smartphones.

If you're asking if it will power up to activate the alarm, it won't, it sucks, I know. If you're referring to the Chainfire app, I have not used that...yet.
I need as many alarms as I can have. In lieu of this I turn off all my phones battery using functions and have SetCPU controlling speed and scaling when the screen is off. Doing this I only lose 2-3% battery during the night.
another alarm related question
as stated in the title i have another question:
do you also have the "problem" that the alarm only rings for a minute and then stops? i mean i have smart alarm activated, which rings for the selected time. but then the alarm itself only lasts for one minute...
No offence, but why not buy a decent alarm clock?
Then you don't have to worry

yeah it's definitely a pity it cant do that alright i posted the exact same question in the HD2 forums last year,i can set my Samsung Tocco's alarm when the phone is off and it will come on at whatever time i set it whereas i have to leave my GS2 on flight mode if i want to use the alarm.
@albinomi lol. When i read your post I thought for a moment "did i write this?" My previous phone was a samsung i8000 windows mobile phone. i also wrote the same question when i changed it with sgs2 . It sucks i know! The answer to your question is : no it does not ring the alarm when the phone is off. You know what else i miss? The sound quality of i8000 when listening to music. The Sgs2's sound sucks compared to it.
Oh, and I also miss the slowmotion recording(it was not the best but at least i had slowmotion recording)

Actually to be honest the sq of the Galaxy S2 is meant to be very good intact brilliant if u use the correct application for it and I think it's better than the i8000 IMHO. IT also uses a Yamaha sound Catherine retry card.
You will need to go to heaf-fi.org to find out more

Apparently there was a rumour that a chinese firmware had a power-on wake function. Dunno why they haven't added it to the european/NA firmwares. It's probably like the google talk with video. =/
Alarm waking up the phone
Yes, the powering on alarm does exist.
It is a feature of the chinese roms. You set it power off the phone and....1 min before it is supposed to ring...the phone boots up and the alarms goes off.
Simple. Just like in a Nokia phone.
I have tried to port the app from the chines rom and I even opened a thread here fro people to test the app. It was almost 2 months ago. No one tried it.
For me I couldn't make it to work, the chinese Rom has a different framework and the apk is odexed according to that framework.
I could do almost anything in Silverlight/etc but android isn't on my strong side.
I asked some recognized developers here, most of them flipped me and the rest never responded, opened threads on Android development forum.... no one seems to want a feature like that.
Anyway, PM me if someone wants to take a look at the work I've done then.
I did gave up long time ago.
Here's the thread I opened:

My girlfriend just got a bell gs2 and she was having really poor battery life so i looked at it tonight and it seems that facebook won't stop using the cpu and will go from 3-10% cpu usage all the time. Is anybody else having this problem? Is there any solution?

If you're talkin bout the official facebook app then you are right. Also had this experience. Was checking thru system panel then i noticed the fb app was consuming cpu usage while running in background with sync off.. That fb app is getting glitchy sometimes. I uninstalled it!

I had similar issues with the official Facebook app. I use Advanced Task Killer (ATK) which is a free download from Market. You can set it to auto-kill apps at regular intervals (in my case, every hour). So the FB app gets killed every now and then, saving whatever battery can be saved..

ATK'ers cause more problems than they help, as every time something is killed, the phone wakes up, kills something, then the app has to be reloaded.
Its highly recommended not to use them.

Maybe pre gingerbread, but as far as I know 2.3.x has always had a LMK (low memory killer) built in, so it does the same thing as a ATK, but its "smart" and doesn't hurt the battery like a ATK does.
I kno this is a super bump but this is the closest thread i could find to my issue...
After facebook recently updating the app i noticed, in the stock application manager on my LG P930, it using about 58% and even spikeing up to 88% CPU usage and using over 40.0 MBs of my RAM i have to stop the app in the application manager for it to stop....
Heres a pic for proof i guess:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1035642&stc=1&d=1335922294
So my actual question is can this harm the hardware to my phone if i dont stop it running after every use? And is there maybe a fix to get it to stop using so much?
i got fb on both sgs1 an sgs2 yes many say it consumes power but y dosnt mine do tht its loggd in 24hrs........cheerz
Facebook for Android sucks really.. I noticed this whole CPU trashing started when they upgraded Facebook some time ago to what is the "current" skin for the past 4-5 months or so. Suddenly, everytime I launch Facebook, when I go back to my home screen it stays running...
Obviously I have the notifications and synch refresh set to never..
Watchdog complains about it...
Connecting via ADB and issuing top shows the katana process eating 20% cpu or more..
Using a terminal app on the phone and issuing top reveals the same thing...
So I just use Watchdog to kill Facebook everytime I'm done using it, or I use the sluggish browser version that doesn't suffer from this cause it runs in the browser
Upgrade after upgrade they can't seem to fix this and it's symptomatic.. not random! At least not on my Nexus S running the latest ICS 4.0.4.
Would be interesting if via ADB we could check the threads of the facebook process and see what's running...
What would be even better would be some sort of channel to complain about this to Facebook.. I mentioned this in my review on the Play store but I don't think anyone cares about what's written there (at least none from the Facebook development team..)
Team,
I have tried a number of the sophisticated alarm apps but I can't find one that wakes up my tablet. Whether I have turned the screen off or let it go to sleep, the alarms do not sound until I physically double-tap the device. Then the alarm kicks in immediately. Obviously, it is totally pointless if I have to wake up the XZT before the alarm sounds!! As this seems to happen with a number of apps, I can only assume that there is a setting somewhere that I have overlooked. Can someone solve this for me please?
Thanks
Do you have Greenify installed or any similar apps that may put the app to sleep? Is this the stock alarm you are using that isn't working?

Nope, I don't know what Greenify is! The stock app seems to work OK. It's the more complex alarms that wake up slowly or provide "nap" features that don't seem to wake the tab up.
If someone could recommend an app that they know works and wakes up the tab, I'd be happy to give it a try.
BTW upgraded to 4.2 yesterday but the problem is still there.
Cheers

Thanks - you have solved my problem without realizing it!:good:
I loaded Timely, set a test alarm and it immediately told me that it wouldn't work while Stamina was enabled. It even gave instructions on how to add an exception to Stamina.
Working perfectly now.
Many thanks - I hope this helps others:laugh:
Glad I could inadvertently help! I still think that's odd, but it's good to know for the future. I keep my tablet in the dock, so that may be why I haven't noticed the problem before.
