i have install fission 2.4.3 and the sim card hot fix, shouldn't this make my phone capable of using sim cards outside of the US, (the phone has not been unlock by code), can someone clarify this for me please, thanks
No, its just supposed to make fission be able to use sim cards, you still have to unlock it

Where did you get SIM HOT FIX?
I have Motorola Droid 2 Global Unlocked with default blurred Android 2.2 and I want to flash to Team Fuse Rom.
My phone is rooted.
Best Regards.
Its in frm

and by that he means Fission Rom Manager
I have Fission rom manager, full version, but I'm not seeing the sim card hot fix. There are two sections RomManager and AddOn, which do not have any hot fixes. Could anyone post up a link on here or via pm if it is downloadable in FRM?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: nvm, I'm seeing it now, had to reboot the phone lol
Its in add on. along with a lot of cool stuff.
So the sim card hot fix gives fission the ability to use SIM cards, but you still need to get an unlock code.
Will SIM cards for other US carriers work using this hotfix, or only international carriers.
You'd need D2G SIM unlocked, then band unlocked in order to use SIM cards from AT&T and T-Mobile in the US.

Does anyone have firsthand experience? The Verizon SIM uses a weird auth protocol that also checks the ESN of the phone to authenticate on a roaming network. This is nonstandard and something I would guess typical rom builders wouldn't even know about.
I know I could use another SIM but I particularly need the unlimited data plan that's attached to the vzw/vodafone stock SIM.
Thanks!

There's a hotfix for Fission 2.4.3 that claims to make the SIM work correctly. I haven't been out of the US since I installed it though, so I can't confirm anything.
Could you point me to the thread with the hotfix? I'm not seeing it in the main fission 243 thread. Thanks!

You download it from within the Fission ROM Manager.
Ah ok thanks!

Is there anyway to see more details on this? Googling produces no trace of explanation and I'd like to see the code or at least a written word before I install the rom. If it doesn't work I will be screwed since I only use this phone for roaming via the Verizon SIM.
Thanks

To be clear bot just a "use SIM " hotfix but one that works with the weird vzw sim which is the only way to roam on the GlobalData plan. I do not want to use any other local sim.
Thx

It works fine. I have tested it. Rogers Canada sim/service/location.
Tested with the original vzw sim? A Rogers sim wont work the same as the vzw SIM

Could always make a complete Nandroid Backup - then if the other rom doesn't work you can restore the nandroid backup. That way you're safe no matter what, right?
Or can you not do that on Motorola Devices like we can with HTC/ clockwork mod custom recovery?
@thesuperman - There is clockwork - yes - that's how you install custom roms (or should i say rom) Also - there is always SBF available if you want to go stock. Easy.
@BobbySteel - Verizon users have reported using Fission with Verizon SIM outside US. Too lazy to look up the exact post now - just read thru the forums.
AT&T gave me the unlock code for my rooted Streak...I went to T-Mobile & the Rep used one of their store SIM cards to help me unlock it. Punched the code in & Success! I put my AT&T SIM card back in & left the store. Is my Streak still unlocked or did it re-lock to AT&T? How is being rooted different from being unlocked? I can't tell any difference. Please excuse the ignorance...still kinda new to this stuff.

Yes.

"Yes" it is still unlocked or "yes" it is re-locked to AT&T? Thanks.

Being rooted means being able to make changes to the system files on the internal MicroSD card, such as removing unwanted apps or even removing the Stage UI. Being unlocked means being able to use your phone on any carrier that uses SIM cards. This unlock is permanent. So, for example, if you were to visit Canada for an extended length of time, you could remove your AT&T SIM, purchase one of Rogers' prepaid SIM cards, pop it into your Streak in place of the AT&T SIM, and use it right away.

Thank You! Now I get it.
Hi. Once every few hours, my phone will suddenly lose connection for a few seconds and say "Invalid sim card", then it will connect again. It gets really annoying, especially when I'm in the middle of a conversation. Is there a fix for this?
I have this too as well as saying sim card not installed

If you used a sim cutter to cut your sim to microsim ... it may of not been done properly
If not... try cleaning the sim contact points on both sim card and simcard tray
Hope that helps

I heard abt sim card issue on some russian forum.
Its somethig you cant know exacly till you try. I mean one sim card works well, another - not. Even of same carrier.
Its about specifications of sim.
For now is only one solution is to contact your gsm operator and ask for an available sim cards and try one by one.
Had that when I bought the Razr from the Verizon store. I reset to factory and reentered my Gmail and fine ever since.
Something had not setup right the first time.

For GSM users upgrading radio will solve the issue, just take a look at developer section & find a thread : upgrading radio, radio 85P is recommended

Many thanks. it works after upgrade the radio
I have this problem now, **** this **** ****ing whore I need my phone tommorow and now the sim will not be recognized. I am on stock 2.3.6 wtf should I do?
Does this work on Rogers Razr? Mine is randomly doing this and sometimes i turn the Airplane mode and it gets fixed or restarts. So the most viable solution would be to restart the phone... After that, it's all good again. Wondering if upgrading the radio will fix this entirely.

I'm on ICS 676.226.3.XT910.Retail.en.EU and my phone fails to register on a GSM network. All other radio modules (Wifi, BT) work just fine. Phone is unbranded.
Problems started on 672.180.33. I decided that it was a faulty radio module and installed a new leak. Unfortunately, nothing happened.
Phone is able to identify that the SIM card is inserted, it can read the contents of SIM card and it shows the phone number that is stored on SIM card. It also identifies SIM serial number via 'SIM info' app.
I did the reflash. Wiped both phone storage and internal storage. Again, no results.
Also, when doing a network operator search it finds all operators in my country. But still it fails to register while doing a manual search.
I tried another SIM card from other operator and everything is the same as with the main SIM card.
Should I get a new SIM card from my operator? Or is it a problem with phone?
Solved the problem. The SIM card was the problem.
Tried another SIM card and it worked.
Anybody using the Razr on AT&T GSM in the USA?
I called Verizon wireless and they told me that with the new ICS update the Droid Razr has been globally unlocked. Does this include AT&T in the US? I tried using a sim that I had on my AT&T phone but it didn't work even with customer support trying to help from AT&T. I'm going to change the sim tomorrow to determine if that's the problem. Thanks for the help!

From what I understand the phone is not unlocked to work on AT&T or T-Mobile. It can use most over seas GSM providers tho
Yeah i went to grab a new sim from AT&T and it still doesnt work. Although it does detect AT&T GSM/UTMS access points. As i understand it, the issue is in the software not hardware capability. Any roms that allow for AT&T use?

I have a Sprint Photon 4G which is no longer active on my account. I want to use it in Israel with an Israel sim card (Orange network). From everything I've read here it seems that should work without a problem, but when I called Sprint (to unlock the sim of my husband's Galaxy S4) I asked about the Photon 4G and they said that while it is not locked it cannot be used with a foreign sim card unless the phone is active on my account (which it is not). Is this true? Will it work to just put in the Israel sim card and adjust the settings appropriately or is Sprint right?
Thanks.

I'm using a SIM card of orange in Israel. Actually my photon is heavily customized but I think that nothing should be done in order to make it able to use foreign SIMs. If you will encounter problems with the Spring app that connects you to Spring's services you'll always have the option to root your device and remove the stupid app. Like here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265816&highlight=bypass+sprint+activation
However, it's about time to unlock the bootloader (if you don't use the version that makes it impossible) and have some fun!

I don't want to bother with unlocking the bootloader or rooting. I'm not using the phone regularly; it is the phone I had before the current one (which doesn't use a sim). Since it can use a sim, I will just use it for overseas travel.
תודה רבה!
