[Q] Cannot change SD card Permissions - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Did you sort this? I'm having a similar issue, my phone's not bricked though.. just can't write to my SD card..
I get this error message when I try to change permissions: "sdcard permissions cannot be changed because the file system is read-only."

try use ur com to fix it. right click on it and select properties and then on the tap tools, select error checking then select check now and then click start
make sure that the automatic fix error is tick.

Got my PC reading my SD card.. formatted NTFS and now it won't mount in my phone (HTC Desire HD)..
I'm under the impression it's better to format NTFS than FAT32 with Android's file system..?

harlo.. well, fat32 are universal because all android phone can read it. usually the main part for the sdcard is fat32, as far as i know. so i suggest you to use fat32 instead of ntfs
correct me if im wrong

Yip, I took the looong route!! Had to re-format with FAT32.. to add to my frustration, 2 out of the 3 laptops we have at home could not read the SD Card when formatted NTFS! Finally got it sorted on a Vista machine.. lol at least Vista's good for something
So, all sorted. Thanks for the love

Help please,i can,t use storage card on FRX06

Hello guys,as my title thread ,i,v installed android(FRX06)on my touch pro2 ,it work,s but ,but android can,t see my storage card ,can any body explain me how should i fix it please?
i have already the phisical keyboard problems ,but the imporatante issue for me in storage card for now, thanks.
What do you mean android can't see your sd card? It's running off your sd card so it clearly can see it.
Probably he means that when you go to SD Card options [I forgot the actual name] in Settings, the SD card is considered "not detected" and doesn't show you the remaining capacity of the SD card. If so, I had the same problem when I first put FRX06 a month ago.
What you can do is to do a FULL format using the HP Tool. It needs to be the HP Tool and a FULL format or else it won't work.
I'm guessing you also didn't have your ringtones working while you were at it huh?
Well, give full formatting a try. :]

Thank you very much my friend, your advice was good, now i can see my SD card doing only a quick format with hp tool
Have a very nice day,byeeee
I actually suggest a full format if you want the FRX06 build to work properly. But whatever works for you.
SOLVED.
no SD card
folks, I have the same problem.
I did a FULL FAT32 format to a 512 card.
FRX06 boots and runs smooth, I just "don't have an SD card", you know, for taking photos and stuff.
Do I have to make 2 partitions? or what?
Oh, HP Tool does nothing for me, it doesn't detect my card in my laptop's slot.
Am I weird, or what??
OFFTOPIC but I have no pulldown notification bar either. Nor FRX06 neither Gingerbread ALPHA. (I am using the right calibration file, I compared it with the one attached in the post)
I can get to notifications from home by pressing menu, then I can pull it UP, but not down. HM?????

For the notification bar, try making your own calib file, instructions in the first post.
HP Tool is necessary, or something else other than the built-in Windows/WinMo utilites. If your card reader doesn't work, have you tried using WinMo and the phone in 'mass storage' mode so it just shows up as another disk drive in My Computer?
Notification bar was a question of calibration. Thx.
As for the SD card, it is visible in my desktop, a can format it in several ways, except for HP Tool, that doesn't recognize it. Is being not visible in Android a question of formatting really?

Unless you figure out some other way, yes it is a question of formatting really.
What do you mean you can 'format it several ways' if the HP Tool doesn't see it? Are you sure you're doing it correctly?
I can format it with Total commander, regular rightclick format in windows, etc, but HP Tool doesn's handle it. It is win7, it's in my cardreader slot shown as secure digital card in windows. I run HPtool as admin, of course, starts up but the pull down options stay dimmed. How should I format it? Wouldn't HPTool format it just FAT32 too?

It's not that the Windows utility doesn't format as FAT32 - my theory is it doesn't touch the partition table, and something gets hosed with it.
I've had TONS of people that were skeptical it would do anything (especially since you can backup all your data and restore) but every single one of them said it fixed the "No SD Card" issue in apps.
Figure out the issue with the HP Tool, it works great for me. I used it in Win7 as well, but I don't have a Win7 box handy to test on - I do know that it works on Win7 tho.
Edit - perhaps try the SD card inserted into the phone in WinMo & use mass storage mode? Not sure why it wouldn't show up in the HP Tool, gotta try something different.

Yes, as does GParted - which probably does the same command thru a pretty GUI .
With the phone connected, the sd card being a disk drive HPTool recognizes it, and after formatting I DO HAVE an SD card. ) Thx

That is correct - gparted is basically a frontend to the various Linux partition and filesystem management tools - mkfs, resize2fs, fdisk, etc.

Not sure if it has been said if it has my bad. But it seems you are trying to do the FAT32. download the HP tools. then when you plug in your device pick the disk drive option that will set it as if it was a thumb drive then run HP tools and for me it was my F: drive sorry if its not a help

What are the card problems?
Just to clarify, the only problems i have is in managing file integrity when the file is big. Eg the roms I downloaded and put on my sd always changes its MD5 hash after I reboot. So always unable to flash. On rare occasions it could load up.
Is this the same as formatting using windows inbuilt tool or gparted or does minitool handle things differently? Would it differ from formatting in xrecovery or in storage settings on the phone?
Clear and useful guide nonetheless thank you

Your sd is seriosly damaged, buy a new one
I think it might be the cable when the speed of transfer of the zip file gets higher than 3mb per second i'll expect a bad file.
Other stuff are working fine though so i'll stick. What's more it's a 16 gb card and I don't wanna part with it!

Damaged SDcard- You may have to reformat! BUT the format does't work.

Hello all,
I've facing this problem. "Damaged SDcard- You may have to reformat!". I don't know how the sd-card got damaged.
How can i re-use the SD-card (external sdcard) because i tried so far:
- Windows format - FAT32, NTFS (with no succes)
- Phone format from recovery and normal format.
- format from card reader - when tries to format it, unmounts the card automatically.
- i've tried many programs, search many forums, but not solution.
The card was received with the phone: 32 GB microsdhc (class 4) Team.
When i enter recovery i can se the folders from the ex-sd-card (i can see from windows/linux too), but i can delete/read/copy them.
Anyone have idee what to do next?

U may try deleting the partition of SD card and re mounting it
Follow the following procedure
On windows 7
Click start
Go to computer right click select manage (2nd from top)
Look for storage
Under storage ull find "disk management"
Click on it
Look for ur disk (should be disk 2) by its size
Click on it
On tool bar ( after top most bar) u will see a button with cross sign "x" click on that
Select yes
Your disk will go black
Right click on your disk
Select "new New Sample Volume"
Next, next, next , select file type system then next and lastly finish..
It should be back working normally

I would say if Windows 7 cannot format nor read it, it's toasted. **** happens, and memory cards are more than prone to it.

Just chill, also happened with me and no chance of getting it to work
for me it happened after running S2E but i think a virus caused the problem or the life of sd card was finished? don't know surly but its a bad luck nothing more.
Why post on a thread that has been dead for six months? This forum is messy enough without adding to the problem...

Messed up my internal sdcard format

I was trying to reformat my internal sdcard using windows and somehow messed it up. I cannot see it or format it from within android or windows now. It shows up but only as much as to tell me that it needs formatted.
How can i fix this?
And after it tells you it needs formatting in windows it doesn't give you the option to go ahead and format it? Should be FAT32 btw...
Try right clicking on Computer and go into "Manage". Then go to Storage > Disk Management. See if you see it listed there. It should give an indication of whether it is healthy or not. You can select it in there and format it there if it will let you.
still formated wrong
Thanks for the response sorry it took me so long to respond back.
I can only format it from recovery, otherwise it shows the device but says there is no card installed.
from recovery i formatted it fat32 but then upon reboot it doesn't show up as a readable partition as in i cannot put files there or anything else. It doesn't complain about it being corrupt any more.
Any other ideas? i have a feeling i need to format it from linux but dont know the details.
Thanks
EDIT: i ended up going back to RUU and it fixed it. Thanks

Convert SD card to ExFAT?

How do I go about converting my SD card from "Generic Hierarchical" File system to ExFAT?
trying to ROOT my phone for the 1st time.
I right click and it gives me an option to FORMAT,
but it does not give me any option as to what type of file system to format
to, no options for ExFAT or any other types of file system formats..

Assuming you are trying using your phone you will likely need a microSD-to-SD converted. I tried using a USB device and it just messed things up.
Oh, what size card? I think anything <64GB will format exFAT using the phone but since I have 64GB I'm not expert on that.
I assume PC if you're using right click. What OS?
In windows 7 it looks like this:
edit - oops apparently I'm too much of a noob to post a freaking picture on this freaking forum. Jesus.
And you can change the FAT32 to ExFat in the second drop-down.
Another option is to use minitool partition wizard (google it)
Another thought - are you trying to format this from your phone? If so you will need to get a card reader to format it from your pc, I do not think formatting the card using your phone as the "card reader" on your pc will work. (as stated in the post above me)
yes
Yes I was trying to format the SD card while it was plugged into my phone.
I am on WINDOWS 8
It is a 15 or 16 Gig SD card, the one that came with the phone.
Is that ok or do I need to get a new card with more GIGS?
Thanks for the fast replies!

Oh no you'rre PLENTY good with 16 gigs. You really only need a very small amount of space to do this and then you can reformat the card in your phone and use it as extra storage if you'd like. But to do this exploit you'll need to get an external card reader to format the card on your pc. The only exception is if your card is 64gb, then you CAN apparently format to exfat in your phone. Go figure.
problem!
So i formatted the SD card..
I am using the latest Verizon samsung galaxy S4 the UAME7 one.. model # SCH-I545
I formatted the SD card, yet when i put it back in my phone and click properties.. it shows as a "GENERIC HEIRARCHICAL" file system
Is that right? It is not showing as ExFAT file system..
followed all these steps below..
when i get to typing the ./pwn , i get an error saying it cant find the file.. I hit ENTER or Return after i type each line correct?
1. Move all files and folders directly onto the root of your EXTERNAL microSD card only!
2. Download a Terminal Emulator app:
3. Open the Terminal Emulator app and run below 3 commands:
cd /mnt/extSdCard
./pwn
./script.sh

what steps did you take to format? (Used a card reader, right clicked in windows, select "format," change the filesystem type to from fat32 to exfat, etc)
and when you unzipped the zip file (root exploit package) in the link you found:
pwn
script.sh
readme
a folder called gs4ex
and moved all of these things to the root of your sd card?
when you type the first command in the terminal emulator and press enter what is the response you get back?
yea
I figured it out.. when i formatted it i had the QUICK FORMAT box checked.. i unchecked that, Formatted it again.. and finally got it to work!
So i got my phone rooted..
next step.. how do i backup the phone or ROM? Want to back it up before i install xprivacy or xposed.
Tried to do it holding the volume/home/power button, it shows me a recovery menu but no option to BACKUP the phone.
My goal here is to Permanently Disable the E911 GPS services.. for "911 calls/emergency only" which we all know is BS.. I would like to DIsable the E911 GPS but Would still like to be able to use my phone for GPS/DIrections. and disable any other apps from knowing my location etc.
I also want to disable any record keeping of phone calls or texts , is that even possible??
pretty much want to be untraceable, anonymous all around..
Any info on how to do so would be greatly appreciated.
From what my buddy told me i could install a custom ROM to turn off the Code for E911 GPS ?
or is there any other way to do so?
also formatted my SD card over all my PHOTOS, forgot to remove them first.... any way i can recover these? Or are they gone for good?

ME7 currently has a locked bootloader and no exploit in sight. Still plenty you can do with root, and there appears to be workaround almost ready.
